The World Martial Arts Tournament, or sometimes called the Tenka'ichi Bukokai, was an event for martial artists from around the world to test their mettle against one another. Held every three years, this tournament was often visited by Goku and his friends as a friendly competition over who was stronger. Of course, one question remained in this timeline? What would change with Ayote present and could she handle the mysterious Jackie Chun?
At the World Martial Arts Tournament, located on Papaya Island, as the crowd was gathering for the preliminaries to begin. Bulma was with Oolong, Puar, and Yamcha, talking with them as they waited. That is until she spots two figures approach her, one of which she recognized from his distinct hair style. It was Goku and Krillin, who both sported the orange gi with the Turtle School symbol on it.
Bulma: "Goku? Hey! Goku! It's great to see you!"
Bulma waves at Goku as the group begins to greet each other. Krillin is then introduced as Goku's friend and brother in arms.
Krillin: "I aim to do the Turtle School proud."
Goku: "Hey, Yamcha. Are you entering too?"
Yamcha: "Yep. Gotta show what kind of man I've become with all the training I've done. And that'll mean you and I will be in the ring. Think you're ready for Round 2?"
Goku's competitive spirit ignited as he and Yamcha stared at each other with intensity.
Bulma: "By the way, Goku. Where's Ayote? She was with you when we all left so I figured she would still be around."
Goku: "Oh, she's here. She decided to wait to arrive here to change into her own gi. Make this occasion special to her, so me and Krillin signed her up for her. Though… Where did Master Roshi go?"
Krillin: "To use the bathroom. I think he said it was a bad ulcer."
In the women's bathroom, Ayote is seen changing in one of the stalls, putting on her new orange gi, tailored for her comparable size to Goku and Krillin, who were much smaller than her. She tightens her sash as she flexes her fingers.
Ayote: "Got to say, this gi is certainly very form fitting. It's no Saiyan armor, but it's still comfy to wear."
She turns to the mirror to check out her look. Because of the looseness of the upper part of the gi, her breasts would've been exposed. While she did not mind, she was told public indecency wasn't something people appreciated - ironic coming from Roshi, who'd jump at the chance to ogle an indecent woman - so Ayote opted to use bandages over her chest in place of a bra. After her brief time wearing Bulma's borrowed clothes, a bra just wasn't comfortable to her.
Ayote: "Thank goodness I'm not fully grown yet… Maybe in another year or two, I might hit another growth spurt, but for now… Hm?"
As Ayote walks out of the girl's bathroom mid-monologue, she notices an old man with a full head of hair come out of the men's bathroom. The two lock eyes for a minute, Ayote eying him up as if she… recognized him. Namely his beard and mustache.
Ayote: "...Have we met somewhere? You look… unusually familiar…"
Jackie: "...Sorry, lass. But I don't know what you're talking about. But I must compliment that the gi you're wearing does look good on you."
Ayote: "Oh! …Uh. Thanks. My grandpa got it for me to compete in."
The old man nods before turning away, rubbing away a prideful tear as he walks away.
Jackie: "Make him proud then."
Ayote stares with suspicious bewilderment before leaving towards the tournament grounds.
The tournament preliminaries get underway as Goku, Krillin, and Ayote fight their way through the roster with very little difficulty. Ayote even witnessed Krillin beat his old bullies from Orin Temple, much to her joy and excitement. Before the quarterfinals, Ayote's last opponent in the preliminaries was a… very unorthodox lady with afro-style purple hair, Ranfan. Ayote bowed in respect to Ranfan before the match could commence.
Ranfan: "Excuse me, little lady."
Ayote: "Hm?"
Ayote looks at her opponent as Ranfan looks back with a very… timid demeanor. In Ranfan's mind, her usual tactic of stripping and sexual talk most likely wouldn't work on another girl so she changes to one that would work - looking as meek and docile as she could to appear defenseless.
Ranfan: "I-I'm sorry… But can you please go easy on me? I'm super delicate a-and… I'd bruise easy if you punch me too hard."
Ayote blinks a couple of times as she softens up her stance. With a smirk, Ranfan lunges at Ayote with a Heat Fist, making contact… with Ayote's palm.
Ayote: "Sure. I'll go easy on you."
Ayote then grabs Ranfan and tosses her out of the ring and clear at a wall, winning to the quarterfinals. Ranfan could only stare in disbelief at how she lost before gravity caught up to her and she fell flat on the floor.
Ayote: "That was me going easy. Actually, to be honest, I've done nothing but go easy in the tournament."
The prior fighters she fought looked insulted, but ultimately say nothing as the Saiyan leaves to freshen up before the next match.
The quarterfinals began with Krillin fighting Bacterian; during the fight, Ayote could practically smell the big oaf despite not being anywhere near him. He smelled very awful. But thanks to Krillin having no nose, the fight became a one-sided affair… Of course, he is gonna need a quick shower before the semi-finals if he plans on continuing. The next fight was between Jackie Chun and Yamcha; Jackie showed impressive martial arts prowess, able to dodge all of the bandit's moves despite the latter having very quick movements. Ultimately, Jackie wins by out of bounds elimination. Ayote's match was up next; tightening her belt and wrapping her tail around her waist to protect it from being grabbed, she went to the battlegrounds to meet her opponent, Nam, a brown skinned individual wearing a turban and clothing that certainly seemed foreign.
Ayote: "Hey. Name's Ayote. …Sorry, not much for small talk."
Nam: "That's fine. I am Nam. You are young and spirited, but I must win at all costs."
Ayote notes the seriousness in the villager's tone as her demeanor changes to a more serious one. Before she could ask why, the gong sounded. Ayote sighed before getting into a fighting stance. She made the first move, speeding toward Nam, aiming a punch to him. However, the villager quickly moves aside with a quick motion; as he was about to strike Ayote's neck, she blocks and quickly flips away.
Ayote: "Trying to go for a one hit knockout, are you? Not gonna lie, that actually could've worked."
Ayote smirks, her Saiyan fire burning now as she sees Nam as a worthy opponent; however, his demeanor remains determined first and foremost. Mentally though, he was shocked by the swiftness of the girl in front of him. He could also sense that Ayote is holding back a lot, so he had to be sure not to let her land a hit. Nam closes his eyes, meditating as he holds his fighting stance. Ayote starts charging at him, aiming to keep the distance closed. The Saiyan let loose a flurry of swift attacks at Nam, none of them connecting, though the villager was certainly not able to find an opening. At least not until she goes for a hard knee lunge; Nam's eyes open to a serious glare as he jump flips, using the momentum of the knee as he places his hands on it to bounce off into the air - very high into the air. After a few forward spins, he comes back down with his arms crossed, diving at Ayote with full force.
Ayote: "What the-"
Ayote is taken completely off guard as she is struck hard by the Super Cross Arm Dive, Nam slamming onto her stomach with extreme force, enough to shatter the stadium grounds' tiles. Nam flips off of Ayote shortly after as he looks at his opponent.
Nam: "...I am sorry, young one. I sensed you were strong, but I cannot lose now. Not when I have people depending on me."
The announcer begins the countdown; all of Ayote's friends and Jackie looked on as each number passed. Nam seemed sure that he had won, but just as ten was about to be uttered, Ayote jumped out of the pavement, flipping in the air before landing on her feet. Blood trailed out of her mouth, but instead of looking angry… She actually smiled; Nam, though, looked visibly and absolutely shocked.
Ayote: "Whew. That actually hurt. Like legit hurt. I gotta say, it's been a while since I got hit that badly. You certainly are strong… But I'm too stubborn to lose like that."
Nam got himself ready for Ayote's second wind. But as he read her ki to predict her movements, she had already moved. He dodges a punch coming at him, only for a second one to strike him in the gut, pushing him back with such force, he barely held himself in the ring.
Nam: "Wh-What!?"
Ayote: "I picked up on what you're doing, my friend. You're reading my ki to follow my movements. That's actually pretty good; I could see you making it to the finals with that level of precise movement. However, I'm not your average opponent."
Ayote crosses her arms, as if charging up before unleashing a sudden burst of air, sending a gust of wind to the audience and almost blowing Nam off the arena for how close to the edge he was. He quickly jumps away from the edge, positioning himself so he could continue the match. With a fiery smile, Ayote quickly launches herself at the villager, but her speed was much faster now. Blinding even as, to the audience, she seemed to vanish then reappear to land her hit on Nam. Nam couldn't dodge these strikes, forcing him to try and block. He was completely on the defensive, unable to follow the Saiyan's next attack. And he was ready to intercept a flying roundhouse, he is instead met by a flash palm onto his back, sending him off the arena. Ayote is ultimately declared the winner. The crowd explodes into cheers at such a great match as the Saiyan approaches her defeated opponent.
Nam: "I lost. But that match was one to remember. Congratulations on your victory."
Ayote: "Thanks, Nam. But I have to ask… Why did you enter this tournament? You said you have 'people that depend on you'."
Nam looked at her before turning to the ground below his feet.
Nam: "I… I come from a village in the desert. It was once prosperous until a sudden drought caused our harvest to dry up. I joined this tournament in hopes of winning the prize money and buying enough water to last until the next rainfall. Or else…"
Ayote looked at him before nodding.
Ayote: "Then let me and my friends win the prize money for you."
Nam: "Huh?"
Ayote: "Yeah. Me, Goku, and Krillin don't really have a use for the prize money, nor really need it. So instead of leaving it to waste away, why not use it for a good cause? That'll give us more motivation to win. …Plus, I don't think a certain someone would mind either."
Nam was astonished by this declaration before smiling, extending a hand out, which Ayote accepts; she now made a promise she aimed to keep. Goku and Krillin watched with a smile, and while the latter didn't fully agree to get roped into the promise, the idea of helping a dying village did sound better than anything selfish. Jackie looked on as well, keeping to his thoughts.
Jackie's Thoughts: "That is quite honorable of you, Ayote. I am truly proud of you. Hmm… Do I set aside my lesson to let my students carry out their promise… or do I continue as planned?"
Jackie closes his eyes before preparing himself for his next match with Krillin; he would just have to observe for now and see where his students stood.
After Ayote's battle concludes, Goku faces off with Giran, the strange dragon-like monster man who uses bubble gum to ensnare the younger Saiyan. Though he had somewhat a hard time - even breaking a rule by using Flying Nimbus to save himself from elimination, which the referee gave a first timer's offense ruling, warning Goku to not do it again - with his tail regrowing, he forces Giran to give up due to being completely outmatched. The stage of the next couple of matches were set - Krillin VS Jackie Chun and Ayote VS Goku. The duo of Saiyans stared at each other, both sharing looks of determination and a fiery spirit to win. Only one of them was going to the finals.
