Chapter 12 Orange:Splitting up
After about three more days of traveling on the airship ride. It wasn't that interesting because all they did was talk about stuff and just take in the view of the water ans sencario. It was magnificent since the water was clear blue. They were about twenty minutes away from the port as they were waiting near the gang way to leave.
"Man I can't believe were finally here these last two days have been nice"rogue declared as she stood next to jaune, mercury and emerald.
"Yeah seriously just smooth sailing for the last two days which I don't mind"emerald replied
Mercury smiled because he looked at jaune. The guys face looked like it was turning a little green. Guess he still holds the title of vomit boy.
"Well apparently vomit boy here got air sick again"mercury joked as emerald and rogue laughed while jaune groaned.
"Come on…motion sickness and sea sickness is a serious problem"jaune countered
"Sure it maybe you shouldn't have eaten soo much food early during lunch"rogue replied as jaune groaned.
"How was I suppose to know eating a fricking orange causes sea sickness"jaune replied
"Don't know but if your gonna puke…puke on merc"emerald said gestuirng toward mercury.
Mercury put his hands up as he backed up"nope…nope I am not cleaning that crap out of my legs. "Mercury said as he backed up.
"Yeah well if does happen i'll help you get it out merc"rogue replied as mercury chuckled.
Soon enough the baot rocked a little as a small wave hit the side of the boat. They lost their footing for a bit but they kept their balance. Though that wave seemed to make jaune lose his lunch. He rushed over the edge holding his mouth.
Before they knew it he hurled as a wretching sound could be heard. Emerald looked disgusted as he threw up into the deep blue sea. While rogue backed up not really wanting to be cover in his vomit.
After a bit of time jaune spit something out as he took a deep breath as he groaned.
"Ughh seriously this sucks…when are we gonna get their?"he asked as he wiped his mouth off.
Rogue cupped her chin looking at the distance they were at as she squinted her eyes. They might be at least twenty minutes away from the place. She estimated that might be it and decided to tell them.
"About twenty minutes maybe…we should go meet with the others"rouge suggested as they seemed to agree on that. The four then started to head back to their room to look for the others in their group.
Meanwhile in the room ren was staying in with jaune and mercury. He was packing up his belonging into a backpack he brought with him. But he was also deep in thought as he was thinking about where they were heading.
He asked qrow were we were heading and he said they were stopping in higabana first then heading off toward a crossroads. This worried him because if they were going were they think their going.
Him and nora would be taking the path with the group who are traveling elsewhere. As he continued to pack his belonging he looked at his weapon stromflower in its holsters on his hip. He narrowed his gaze looking at the sheathe below it.
A knife sheath that seemed to carrie a dagger. He looked at it for a bit not extaclty listening or paying attention to what was around him. Soon enough he could feel someone place a hand on his shoulder as this broke him out of his trance.
"Hey you okay ren?"jaune asked as he looked at his teammates as ren exchanged glances.
"Umm yes, just got lost in my thoughts is all"ren simply replied as he continued to pack his stuff up.
Mercury was with him as the knight and silver haired boy exchanged looks. Because that didn't look like he was lost in his train of thought. But jaune just sighed as this.
"Alright ren we just wanted to let you know were five minutes from landing on the port."jaune replied as ren nodded
"Yeah once we get their good old qrow says hes were topping off on supplies just incase"mercury added
"That would be very smart since we are traveling for a long time"ren replied as he finished packing his stuff as he slung his back onto his back. Then he began to walk out of the room with mercury and jaune following him.
They packed early in the day for their trip as they walked toward the exit of the ship. As they did jaune looked at ren who was just staring off to the side looking at the port. Jaune could tell he was nervous about were they were heading. He understood but he just hoped after being apart for so long this doesn't cause a rift between them.
Near the side of the ship where the exit was of the ship rogue was waiting for jaune and the others. But qrow, ruby, yang and emerald where with them. Bashira was apparently helping nora pack her stuff because the orange haired girl just threw it around their room.
Emerald stretched her arms out while she groaned in relief it seems as soon an audible pop could be heard.
"Man these last couple of days have been nice"emerald said
"Yeah the nice open air were lucky we didn't run into any pirates"yang replied
Qrow laughed"their aren't that many people who rob airships nowadays kid"qrow replied as yang raised an eyebrow at this.
"Oh and why woudln't they rob a ferry or ship uncle?"yang asked
Ruby chuckled a little"because most ferry or large airships are equipped with large turrets and defensies against any type of grimm. They wouldn't get close to the ship"ruby stated
"Yeah along with that what dingy bandit crew has access to weapons like that. Most of the time they carrie guns and swords"rogue added
Yang rolled her eyes"you two and your knowledge about technology and weapons. It's like their are two of you"yang teased
Qrow chuckled at this"hmm well besides that were are the rest of you kids i'm babysitting"qrow said
Yang rolled her eyes"more like were baby sitting you uncle"yang replied
"Oh and whys that my lovely niece is it because of my bad luck?"qrow asked
"Hmmm yeah though your really old we don't want you breaking your hip out their"yang joked as a few laughs could be just rolled his eyes at this because he wasn't that old, was he?
After a few minutes soon enough bashira was walking over with nora who was humming happily to herself. While bashira has a peeved off look to her because of what happened in the room. Nora somehow managed to get some of her stuff lost in the room. And she lost magihald for a second before finding it in the bathroom in the shower for some reason.
As they walked Jaune and the others converged on them as they all met back up where the others looked at ren with a smile as ren looked down at her. He closed his eyes sighing as he rubbed her head.
"Hello Nora"ren greeted as nora smiled.
"Hey renny, you guys get everything you need?"she asked
"Yeah were all packed up though took quite a bit of time"jaune replied
Bashira rolled her eyes"your lucky you didn't have this one with you, seriously why was your weapon in the shower?"bashira questioned looking at nora who shrugged her shoulder.
Ren laughed a little at this"thats just classic nora for you, she sometimes just misplaces things"ren replied as they continued to walk.
"Really does she always do stuff like this?"bashira asked
Jaune chuckled rubbing his neck"sort of though she also has the recurring dream of those beowolfs, really energetic sometimes, and will fight grimm with a big smirk on her face"jaune replied as nora hummed at this.
"Oh come on I fought like a thousand of them it was glorious"nora said as ren smiled patting her head.
"Yes, all four of those beowulf"he simply said as they chuckled a little at this. They continued to join the others as the ship was landing close by at higanbana. It was just a small port town which consisted of a tavern, an inn and several other smaller shops and homes along a dirt path.
As they got off both qrow and yang got their rides as they drove a little down the dirt path. Qrow looked at the fuel guage of the bike and jeep they had maybe about eight hours of fuel left until they run out for the the yang bike it might be at least six hours. It would take them maybe two before they got to the crossroads then another five until they reached kuroyuri. But their bruning daylight right now with it being about three pm.
"Alright were doing good on fuel for now. But we should top off on supplies. "Qrow said
"Yeah we still some supplies though how far until we reached that crossroads?"emerald asked
"About two hours how about some you go grab some stuff while we discuss the rest of the plan with these two"qrow replied as he gestured to ren and nora.
"Finally seriously why haven't you told us were we were going yet?"nora questioned as she leaned forward a little.
Ren seemed interested as well as he looked at the group"yes where exactly are we going and where do these crossroads lead?"he questioned.
Jaune sighed"hey can you four go get the supplies while we discuss the plan"jaune asked mercury,emerald, bashira and yang.
"Sure might as well top my bike off before we split paths. "Yang replied as her,mercury, emerald and bashira went off to do just that.
The group sat in silence for a bit while they did explain part of the plan what they were doing. But not the part of where they were traveling from because qrow wanted to keep some of this on the hush and hush.
"Sooo where are we going because this place seems familiar"nora said
"Yeah well it is in mistral weren't you two from here originally?"ruby asked softly.
Ren nodded"yes, me and nora both lived in mistral for a while now. What are you implying ruby?"ren asked simply but seemed ticked off.
"Uhh well its just once we get to those crossroads we'll be taking a certain path toward our destitnaiton is all. A little village"rouge replied actually nervous that ren seemed tick off about this.
"Okay…what village because their isn't many out here left?"nora questioned as she slowly pieced it together.
Qrow rubbed his neck"Were going to a crossroads left path leads toward sis place while the other leads to kuroyuri"qrow answered. Both ren and nora went wided eyed at the mention of that name. Nora just shivered a little as she wrapped her arms around herself hugging herself.
This was surrpsing to jaune as he's nerver seen her act like this before. Ruby and nora also seemed a little worried because this was indeed strange.
"Nora…you alright?"rogue asked stepping forward but an arm was put up. She looked to see ren glaring at her which shocked her. Nora was still shaking like she was scared of the mention of the place.
"Whoa ren whats up why are you all mad of all sudden?"rogue asked as she slowly backed up.
"We shouldn't go down that path their is only evil in that village"ren replied as he sounded anger.
"Come on their can't be something like that in their, its probably just some grimm or something"ruby replied as ren went wide eyed at this. Then he clenched his fist trying not to blow up and keeping his composer.
"Just some grimm…just some grimm…their is a grimm in that area that destroyed that town many years ago. My home…is gone "Ren said with sadness and anger on his face.
The old huntsman watched this as he looked at the calm boy as he chuckled a little at this. Which ren picked up on while jaune tried to help calm nora down. He placed an arm on her shoulder as she flinched.
"Nora…are you…okay?"he asked concerned as nora shivered
"No ren right…we can't take that path. Maybe we can take a detour through another village"nora suggested
"Sorry kid no can do thats where were going weather you like it or not"qrow said as the group was a little surprised by those words. Ren growled as he grabbed qrow by the shirt collar and pulled him in as he seethed in rage.
The three were surrpsied by this as they wanted to try and help calm their friend down.
"Ren calm down. You've never acts like this lets just relax"rogue said calmly as ren glared at qrow.
"We are not going down that path…were taking a de–"ren begun but qrow stopped him before he finished.
"Well too bad our tribes down their rebuilding the place, were stopping their for a quick check up on their progress"qrow said which made ren and nora go wide eyed at hearing this. Kuroyuri their home being rebuilt.
Ren blinked a few times still holding qrow"what…what are you talking about?"ren questioned looking at qrow who had a soft looked at the group with surprise it seems but still seemed scared.
Jaune cleared his throat"well you see apparently qrow and the branwhen tribe have been rebuilding the village about three years ago."jaune started as ruby continued
"Yeah, they've been trying to restore the town to when it was a thriving village back in the day. Uncle said they actually had good progress"ruby added
Rogue hummed"also they might give us some stuff we can use for the journey. Sorry for not telling you two sooner"rogue said
Ren slowly let go of qrow collar as he stood their frozen for a bit. Which worried jaune a little as the boy was standing their emotionless while his hair blew a little from the wind. Then soon enough yang and the others came back after topping off on their suppile.s
"Alright we got all the gear and dust needed until we make it to the cross roads then we discuss on splitting up"yang said as the other joined her. They all looked at the frozen ren standing their which made them worry.
Emerald looked over at jaune who was a little worried too"uhh hey is everything alright here or what?"emerald asked
"Hmm yeah is he okay it like he frozen like he just saw a ghost or something"bashira added as she walked over to the trailer attached to yang bike. She placed a couple duffle bags in it preusmabbly supplies for their trip. Along with one jerry can incase they run low on fuel.
Ruby walked over waving a hand infront of ren face to get his attention but he just stared at the ground clenching his fist in anger it seems.
"Ren…are you okay…do you need to talk about it?"ruby asked softly looking at him.
Qrow walked over placing a hand on ren shoulder as the calm boy looked up at the eyes met as bright pink met light reddish pink eyes.
"Kid, you gonna be okay to help us on this journey?"Qrow asked as ren looked away taking a deep breath and exhaled composing himself. Soon enough he slowly looked up nodding to hismelf.
Then he walked past them as he jumped into the back of the jeep. Nora walked over rubbing her arm as she joined him in the back. The two exchanged a glance as they sat close next to each other.
The group looked at each other worried as they all got into their respective vehicles as they drove off. They needed to continue driving to beat the sun before it sets. Because then they would need to make camp for the night.
About a two and a half hours have past as they kept an eye out for any grimm in the area around them. But luckily their was no signs of grimm in the area for now. Though qrow jeep did stall at one point which made them make a small pit stop.
It didn't deter them but they still had some daylight until the sun set. From how it was looking it would be about a few hours until the sun set. As they continued to drive for a while on the dirt path it was just silence between all of them.
Ren sat quietly in the back with a stunned expression the entire time at what he heard. While nora sat their quietly not even making a peep.
Which seemed to worry jaune because they never have acted like this back at beacon .Rogue was just sitting their wondering what was wrong with the two. Jaune said on the way here on the ferry that the village was their home.
But what grimm would be so bad that they were scared of it but for Ren. He seemed to resent the thing or whatever it was.
Yang slowly kept her pace on her bike with the jeep as she yelleded to her uncle
"Hey how far are we from the crossroads!"she shotued as qrow turned a little.
"Look ahead were actually here blondie!"he replied as the jeep and bike sped up a little as soon enough they reached two dirt paths. Their was a sign on it that poitned in two different directions. The one on the left read Anima but had a a wing like symbol with gears on it painted brigh red.
"Hmm whats with the graffiti on the sign here?"emerald questioned pointing at it.
"Oh thats the symbol of the branwhen tribe if I recall right uncle"yang replied as qrow nodded.
"Yep sure is though…I don't recall me or raven leaving one here"he said which confused the group for a second.
"What do you mean by that? Who else would leave that here then"rogue asked
Mercury cupped his chin"wait how exactly do you know that you or your sister didn't leave that here?"mercury questioned
"Kid i've been all over remnant from Vale to Vacou and Mistral and mistral since me and raven have to trade position as tribe leader every six months"qrow replied
"Why do you guys have to do that extaclty?why can't one of you stay incharge of the tribe?"jaune asked
"Uhh wouldn't really be far for my mom not to see me or ruby. Along with dad for a long time vomit boy. Plus the tribe is always busy and it takes alot of work to run it."yang replied
"When you put it like that it does make a bit of sense"jaune replied
Ruby looked at the second sign that pointed to the right that had the words kuroyuri on it. She looked toward the dirt road path toward village with some lights barely being seen from it along with a small tower with a signal fire in it.
"Hey is that were we'll head for the supplies?"ruby asked pointing toward kuroyuri as qrow nodded then looked at ren and nora.
"You two orange hair and pink boy take a look over their"qrow said getting the two attention. Nora looked up to se qrow gesturing toward the village. She went wide eyed while ren was staring at a sheathed knife in his hands.
Nora then tapped ren on the shoulder to get is attention as he looked up at his girlfriend.
"What is it nora?"he simply asked as she pointed toward the right paths direction.
"He wasn't lying"nora simply replied with a small smile as ren went wide eyed by this. He slowly turend over to where she was looking. Then his gaze softened a little as he looked at the village illuminated a little as the sun was still out.
Then Ren smiled a little seeing his old home being restored but quickly turned to a worried look. He then strapped the knife sheathe to his leg, as he leaned back into his seat.
Rogue scratched her head"so you said we needed to split up for what exactly?"rogue questioned.
"Yeah we could just honestly stop by kuroyuri then head to haven with my mom and the rest of the tribe"yang added
Qrow sighed"not that simply we don't know when exactly the white fang are attacking remember. The better solution would to be splitting up, we head to haven academy and warn leonardo"qrow begun
"Ummm who is leonardo exactly some huntsman freind or something?'' Jaune questioned.
Bashria sighed"hes' the headmaster of Haven Academy right now. Along with that hes got a seat on the mistral council if I recall"bashira replied
"Yep good old leo wonder how his family been doing. I haven't checked on little bastet and Diata in about five years"qrow replied
Ruby was curious how well he knew the headmaster of haven academy"do you two know each other or something?"ruby asked"
"Well lets just say he's a friend and ally we can trust more specifically….someone oz knows"he replied
The group seemed to get what he was implying right now. That ozpin might have trusted this lionheart with the ifnroamtion about the maidens and relics that reside in each of the four academy. Though right now they needed to decided on whos going where right now.
"Okay so who should go were?"emerald questioned as the group went silent for a bit.
Yang looked toward the path toward the anima thinking about something. She hasn't seen her mom much and only saw her for a couple days as she recovered from the concussion of hers. Right now she wanted to surprise her a little with visit from her daughter.
"Hey i'll head to the anima to search for mom and the tribe"yang volunteered for taking the left path.
"Alright i'll come with too i've lived in mistral for a while. Me and my team did a few missions out in the anima with our combat instructor Mei"bashira said as qrow chuckeld a little.
"You went on a mission with nosy shen mei?qrow asked as bashira hummed.
"Yeah despite asking alot of questions sometimes shes a great combat instructor actually. "Bashira replied
"Really is that why she's called nosy shen mei?"rogue asked
Qrow chuckled"yeah girl always interested in something new sometimes"he replied
"Huh that a quirky little fact we learned about someone that uncle knows"yang stated
"Though anyone else coming with us we got one more spot"bashira said as she gesutred toward the trailer.
After a bit of time emerald groaned as she decided to go with the two on their little trip. She hoped in the back of the trailer as she was preparing herself for the long journey that will be very bumpy.
Qrow nodded his head"Alright heres your three task, your to head to anima"qrow begun as he pulled out a medium size map. He walked over toward yang as he showed her the map. Then he slowly guided his finger as he tapped a symbol of the branwhen tribe on it.
"Ray said thats were we moved camp recently in the last month"qrow replied
"Wait why did she move camp exactly?"bashira questioned
"Hey we keep the maiden hidden by moving around alot and its work so far. Just be careful alright"qrow warned as yang nodded to him. Ruby slowly walked up looking at her sister and yang returned it.
Ruby clasped her hands together"hey please be careful out their I don't wanna lose you too"ruby said sadly as yang sighed as she placed a hand on ruby head.
"Don't worry i'll be fine maybe when you get their we'll get their before you. Good luck to you guys"yang said as she pulled some aviators down. Then she throttled her bikes as the engine roared. Bashira held on tight as emerald held onto the trailer tight. Then the bike began to speed of into the distance down the path.
The group watched them leave as they all turned to qrow. The huntsman then looked at the sky as the sun was about to set in about an hour. He sighed as he motioned for them to all get in the jeep. They all got in the jeep to continue their way down toward kuroyuri.
But back in the port town of hagabana tyrian arrived into the town as he got off a small airship. He looked around the place wondering where his prey went off to next. As he walked around he looked on the ground as he noticed something on the ground.
As he bent down he saw two sets of tires track it seems. One of them was from a sports motorcycle that also had a small trailer attached to it. While the other looked to be a jeep from the looks of it.
Tyrian smiled"hmmm seems the little silver eyed girl went this way"tyrian said as he tried to figure out where they were going.
But as he was soon someone called out to him"oh is something wrong sir do you need help?"a store owner asked. Several people were around as tyrian looked over at him smiling.
"Yes did you see a car or bike pass by her a while ago?"tyrina questioned smiling.
The store owner cupped his chin"their was one here early in the day so yeah. Why you looking for someone?"he asked
Tyrian chuckled a little as his tail whipped around"You can say that…did they say where they were going perhaps?"tyrian asked
The old store owner cupped his chin as it came to him as he snapped his fingers."yeah their heading to kuroyuri that old town being restored or whatever. Though its about a two and half day walk on foot from the path they took"he replied
Tyrian smiled because he wanted to gut the man right now but their were too many witnesses. Huntsman would more likely come after him if he started a bloodbath. His queen wouldn't be happy with that.
He bowed"thank you sir i'll go toward the town…I have to find some old playmates their"tyrian replied
The store owner waved to him as the scorpian faunus left"alright safe travels then"he said as he continued to sweep the front of this store. Tyrian just looked toward the direction of kuroyuri and where his target was that his lovely queen sent him after. Soon enough he will accomplish his task to make her happy.
It seems they all had an interesting development after hearing about ren and nora old home they lost years ago. But to their shock they heard it was being rebuilt. Though yang, emerald and bashira split off from their group to meet with the branwhen tribe for assitance. Thanks for reading!
