Author Note:

Okay, I went back and looked at this story. I realized . . . I was a horrible writer. When I started, that is. I do pray I have gotten better.

2nd Note | I went back for a third time. I realized . . . I wasn't as horrible as last time but it still needed some serious RnR so here I am, give me love (pwease?) and don't forget Book Two: The Engagement Date

Sakura heaved a soft sigh and let her eyes fall shut once more as she snuggled back into her still-warm covers. She poked an eye open to look at her cell phone on the nightstand. She was waiting for the other shoe to drop. In other words, Sakura was waiting for it to ring again. Her eyes drooped. Maybe he had taken the hint and was going to leave her alone.

However, Sakura was not sure if she was that lucky.

But she was crossing every body part and praying to every deity out there that could possibly hear her. She just wanted sleep. Just peaceful uninterrupted sleep. She deserved it too! Sakura had been working hard on the second set of chapters that Lydia was awaiting to approve. And writing chapters while doing every possible thing to avoid the writer's block Monster was freaking tiring.

Sakura settled deeply into the covers, letting the soft fabric softener scent invade her nose and calm her. Ahhh, peace and quiet.

Ring. Ring.

She couldn't figure out if she wanted to smirk or if she wanted to cry out in frustration. A part of her was curious about the unknown caller who seemed intent on listening to her breathing more so than answering questions. But another part wanted to find him and sacrifice him to the god and goddess of peaceful sleeping.

She groaned as her curiosity won out. Sakura reached for the phone and pressed the accept button. She brought the phone to her ear. "Hello?" She tried her best to keep the rudeness out of her voice, she really did, but she couldn't.

"It is rude to hang up on people." His smirk was audible over the phone. He couldn't help it. She seemed amusing. And after his day . . . amusing was a nice distraction.

Her spine tingled as the low, dipped in honey voice caressed her ear. Sakura blinked, stunned stupid for a moment. What? She swallowed and grabbed her bearings quickly. "Well, it is rude to call at 5:25 in the morning and not speak when spoken to." It was too early for her to be more than slightly amicable.

The male on the other end of the line chuckled. It sent liquid heat down her spine, curling tight within her body. Her muscles drew taut. Goose-flesh rose up on her skin. Her breathing came in short rasps. A male voice had never done this to her before.

Sakura swallowed hard. His chuckle had completely short-circuited her brain. She didn't even know who the male was and she was ready to tap out and jump him. His voice soothed and demanded all attention. Her legs shifted in the sheets as she curled onto her side.

Wait, who is this guy? Sakura's brows knitted together as she continued thinking. "Who are you?" Confusion was laced in her voice. She fought off a yawn. "I don't get calls this early in the morning." Suddenly Sakura froze, "Please tell me you didn't get my number from Tenten?" She groaned low and long. It would be just like that bun-wearing brunette. And it certainly wouldn't have been the first time.

She waited for a reply. Sakura was met only with a sultry chuckle. Her eye twitched. This was not the first time he had chuckled. And she doubted it would be the last. And since she had no other names . . . "Alright Chuckles." She sat up in bed.

"Do not make me hang up on you again." Sakura goaded. She wanted answers and she wanted them now. And she was going to get them. Or she was going to hang up and beat Tenten within an inch of her life. Sakura closed her eyes. If this was some creeper that the brunette had given her name to . . . Tenten was so done.

"I need sleep. I have been working non-stop for the last four days and I have yet to gain back all of the sleep I have missed." She was passing agitated. "And you, Chuckles, have given me no answers on why you are calling this early."

He sighed from across the phone line as she continued to rant. She is amusing, just like Naruto said she would be. His fingers tapped against the cool metallic countertop in his dimly lit apartment. He rolled his shoulders. I am only doing this because I owe him big . . . But I do believe that she will be most amusing during this entire thing. "My name is Gaara."

"Okay," Sakura all but snapped. "I'm still tempted to call you Chuckles." She flung herself back onto the bed and wiggled around until she found the most comfortable position. "Why are you calling this early in the morning . . . Chuckles?" A smirk wiggled its way across her lips.

Gaara lifted a hand to his temple and rubbed in small circles. He groaned. Dear God, woman. "Your name is Sakura, right?" She would also be a stubborn mule. Gaara shook his head and took a slow even breath. He had the feeling she would make him sigh a lot more than normal.

"Why do you want to know?" She snapped in reply. Just because she had finally gotten a name out of him – and he knew hers . . . did not for one-second mean she was going to open up and talk secrets with him. Sakura bit her lower lip and fought the smirk on her lips at his huffed-out sigh.

Gaara bit the inside of his cheek to keep from snapping. You owe Naruto, remember that! He shifted in the large laid-back lounge chair. It had been a long day for him too. After working through most of the night he had received an urgent voicemail from Naruto.

"Hey, Gaara." The smirk was evident in Naruto's voice from over the other line. "I finally have a way for you to pay me back for tricking me onto the trip with Temari." Naruto's nose scrunched as he paused for a second. "I still have nightmares from that dude!"

"Well?" Sakura all but growled. "I am seriously about to hang up on you." She stood from her bed and moved towards her master bathroom. She placed the phone on speakerphone before grabbing a ponytail holder. Sakura pulled her hair up into a messy pony.

He groaned once again. "Are you going to answer my question?" Gaara frowned and ran a hand through his dark locks. He pulled at his tie loose before unbuttoning the top two buttons of his black silk dress shirt. Gaara had removed his jacket the moment he had walked through the door of his top-floor apartment.

Sakura gave a strangled sigh, she was simply getting nowhere and it was way too early. "Who the hell are you?" Her eyes narrowed as she glared at herself in the large mirror. She walked away from the phone on the bathroom sink counter to start the water in the shower.

"I already told you my name," was his response. Gaara chuckled as he walked towards his bedroom. He grabbed the remote off of the long dresser by the door and pressed the little button designated for windows. With a few ticking sounds the blackout curtains began to lower.

"Fine, what do you want?" Sakura snapped. She held the lighter in her hand for a moment – her mind traveling to sexy voices and hot wax – before reaching for her favorite Wood Wick scent Sonoma Sunset. It was a warm and soothing scent. It was perfect for taking a nice hot soothing shower. "Time is ticking, Chuckles."

Gaara frowned. "I'm not going to tell you if you're going to be rude." He held back a laugh at her huff. She seemed feisty and cute. Naruto was right about that too. Gaara took a sip of the drink he had grabbed from the mini fridge in his bedroom. "Are you going to play nice?"

"Well," Sakura huffed. "I guess this must be goodbye." She couldn't help but fake a smile as she let a sarcastic chipperness fill her voice. "Great chat. Thanks for being my alarm clock this morning."

He smirked. "So I guess that you will be going to the wedding by yourself?" His smirk grew as he placed his black shiny wing-tipped shoes back in their designated place. Gaara removed his silk shirt and threw it in the hamper, his pants followed suit. He stopped and listened to the sounds across the line

"Wait!" Sakura's eyes widened as she jerked from her position under the sink. "Ow!" She cursed as she rubbed the back of her head, the phone fell to the tiled flooring as she pulled herself form under the sink – her favorite body wash in her left hand. "Ow," Sakura whined softly. She jerked for the phone. "Are you still there?"

Gaara frowned. "Are you okay?" His brows furrowed as he listened to her whine. He didn't like the idea of her being hurt - even if it was because she had hit her head.

"Fine," Sakura whimpered softly and rubbed the sore spot on the back of her head. Dammit, that hurt. "What did you mean by the wedding comment?"

Well here we go. "Someone named Naruto called in. He gave your information for a hired escort." Gaara waited for a beat before continuing. "Said that you needed someone to accompany you to a wedding." You are the one who is going to wind up owing me Naruto. "He called and asked for me directly."

"A– Asked for you directly?" A blush colored her cheeks as she stumbled over her words. Sakura swallowed up a few words before finally pushing out a sentence that would make sense. "I'm sorry for being rude." She licked her lips as the blush grew. "Naruto said he would call me with news – not someone else."

Gaara chuckled at the bashfulness that colored the woman's voice. "It's fine." He conceded softly. "It is rather early for most people." His voice was a soft murmur as he sat down against his silk sheets in a fresh pair of black boxer briefs. "I am man enough to admit I wasn't looking at time."

"Oh," She paused as she listened to his soft deep base. She bit at her lower lip. "You haven't been to sleep have you?"

He grinned despite himself. A soft chuckle fell from his lips. "Guilty," Gaara murmured as he fell back against his sheets. "Forgive me for being rude . . . It was not the best day. Or night." His muscles relaxed as let her soothing voice crawl over him.

"Well," Sakura started off as she listened to his slow and even breathing. "How about we meet the day after tomorrow." She bit at her lower lip. I have an important meeting with a dealer tomorrow. That will go one of two ways – either way will leave me in basket case mode. "Maybe for lunch?"

Gaara yawned softly. "Yes, Friday will be good. Let's make it twelve–thirty at Lover's Moon Café." He needed to get some sleep and soon if he was going to be presentable for the board meeting in five hours.

"Okay," Sakura could feel the blush rising once more. "Sleep well, Gaara." Her voice faded out as she heard a murmured goodbye. Sakura swallowed softly as she placed her phone back on the nightstand. She heaved a small sigh and fell back against the bed, her pillow fluffing around her head.

She wiggled around, trying to find a comfortable position. Sakura couldn't find one. His voice still caressed her eardrums, sliding over her tingling body. She flung the covers away from her. How was it possible that he could make her this hot over the phone?

Sakura wiggled once more, her thighs rubbed together as she fought the waves of heat that crashed over her. A soft gasp left her body as the figment of his voice washed over her again. Sakura took a calming breath as she willed her mind to other things. She pulled her lower lip between her teeth and worried, he was going to be dangerous in person.
