C7 Tanya vs Quidditch.
Harry Potter let out a low sigh as he touched his plate with his fork without actually eating from it.
With lost eyes, his thoughts wandered through the air. "Is Tanya evil?" He was truly confused, she had such a kind smile, yet she was in Slytherin, she was surrounded by nasty people who made fun of him and his friends, and she even stole his reminder from Neville.
"But she can't be evil, she saved Neville from falling to his death!" his mind screamed at him however another side of his being told him otherwise. "Yet she taunted him and now he seems ... Lost." Harry looked at Neville at the other end of the table who was, with his wand trying to grind a few black beans, next to him a cup of hot water rested.
Something had happened when Neville had left the infirmary that he had disappeared for a few hours and the next thing he knew he was seen with Tanya on the stairs talking quietly.
"A'e y'u e'ting t'at?"
"Keep your mouth close while you eat Ronald."
Harry looked at Ron who was devouring his food as if the events of the past day were already history while Hermione was diving behind the pages of a book "The Manual that will put even a Squib on a Broom", neither he nor Hermione knew what a squib was but it didn't matter at that moment.
Harry looked down at his plate for a moment before passing it to Ron without saying much continuing to be immersed in his thoughts.
However, at that moment the door to the Great Dining Hall opened and the subject of his thoughts walked in. Tanya looked as dignified and imposing as ever, there would be some people who would call her cute, but it was those with bad reflexes or bad counter curses who could not call her cute again, not so much for lack of desire as inability; thus, Tanya was both feared and respected among the new boys at Hogwarts. She was usually followed by the sturdy Crabbe and Goyle who discouraged people from getting too close and sometimes Malfoy cordially walked beside her, but this morning none of the three were seen accompanying her.
Harry suddenly felt their eyes meet from a distance and couldn't help but instantly avert his gaze somewhat nervously at having been spotted.
Then, amidst all the bustle of the place, small, almost imperceptible footsteps moved through the large dining room, after a few seconds Harry tried to look once more in Tanya's direction only to notice that she was walking more and more in his direction. His mind panicked for a few moments but his concern was ignored by Tanya. She walked as if on the hunt and stood with her arms crossed behind Neville who was deep in concentration mixing the ground grains with the water.
"The grains are badly ground. What tool did you use?"
Neville suddenly jumped at the sound of the voice causing the cup to wobble and fall over the edge of the table.
"Ah, s-sorry, you startled me."
Tanya frowned as Neville hung his head in shame.
"It's okay, we all make mistakes, the important thing is not to repeat them."
Neville pouted, then Tanya smiled and to Harry's surprise, she then raised her foot, and even Ron put his fork aside as the food in her mouth slowly fell out of her open mouth as everyone looked at the coffee cup perfectly held in Tanya's boot.
"Well, since you put so much effort into making it, it would be a shame to let it go to waste."
Tanya took the cup in her hand as she gave a cursory glance at the members of the table.
"Neville, wouldn't it be chivalrous of you to give up your seat to a lady?"
Neville blinked a couple of times before standing up and giving Tanya his seat, she sighed in disappointment as she sat down and pouted.
"What did we say about sticking too closely to your house principles? I'm a Slytherin you know."
Neville lowered his head as he muttered under his breath.
"But I want to do it for you."
Tanya blinked a couple of times before clearing her throat and taking a sip of her coffee.
"Hey Fred, have we always had a dwarf at our table," suddenly a red-haired boy who Harry recognized as one of the Weasley twins stood next to her.
"I don't know George, on the other hand, I never imagined that fairies were not only arrogant and ugly but also brave." another of the twins spoke next to his brother.
"Nah, she's not brave, she's just stupid and arrogant, a textbook Slytherin!"
Tanya frowned as she sipped some more of her coffee.
"I think my assessment of you as a Gryffindor has gone up a lot Neville, not only are you chivalrous and polite but you're also smart enough to know who not to call a fairy or a dwarf."
Harry felt something pass by him under the table when suddenly one of the red"haired twins behind him collapsed rigid to the floor. The other was just beginning to assimilate the surprise attack when the same fate followed. Once again, the treacherous fairy had claimed another pair of victims.
Harry frowned as he glared hatefully at the person sipping coffee quietly, his left hand: lost under the table.
He grabbed his wand in his hand but Ron was quicker to stand up and whip around the table spitting food as he shouted.
"Who do you think you are?"
The atmosphere at the table was tense as Tanya slowly sipped her coffee.
"Ronald you should swallow before you try to threaten me, is there a problem with me eating at my friend's table," Tanya looked Harry in the eye for a second before correcting. "My friend."
Harry twisted his face, feeling offended even though he was the one who refused her friendship in the first place.
"Aren't Slytherins forbidden to sit at our table," Harry asked rhetorically.
Tanya took another quiet sip of her coffee calmly before answering. "There is no rule against it that I know of. However, I'm pretty sure that cursing someone is forbidden." Hermione looked up from her book for a second to give a suspicious glance at the girl sipping her coffee.
"True, but there's no evidence to back up what you're implying with your words. By the way, we've never met before. Tanya Smith, I hope a trivial thing like a house difference doesn't put you off, I've seen you in Potions class and I can tell that someone of your talent is quite special, you would do me a great honor by being my friend."
Hermione opened her mouth in surprise as she froze in place, her cheeks suddenly turning red at the something not knowing what to answer.
"I-I… you're not going to call me a dirty blood?"
Neville smiled slightly at that comment, but suddenly his expression froze along with the rest of his body, Tanya tucked something under her robes once more as Harry was sure he had performed that petrifying curse again. Tanya frowned and said out loud:
"That thing is stupid. You're competent and that's all I need to know."
Hermione averted her gaze with flushed cheeks, as it seemed she was expecting any answer but that one, and in a somewhat awkward manner she replied.
"I, I see, I guess..."
At that moment Ron stood up interrupting anything Hermione might be about to say.
"Hey, don't let her get in your head! She just cursed my brothers!"
Hermione made a sour face and muttered under her breath, "They brought this on themselves."
Ron pouted as a malevolent grin emerged on Tanya's face.
At that moment, hundreds of owls entered the Great Dining Hall handing out several of the packages that those creatures were carrying, standing out among them Harry noticed a long package carried by several owls that caught the attention of everyone in the Great Dining Hall. That suspiciously shaped package landed in front of Tanya at the Gryffindor table, Tanya only narrowly avoided spilling her coffee as Harry swallowed, recognizing the shape of the package, his stomach sinking.
Tanya's rather grim expression slowly brightened as she looked at the package and the letter that fell behind her.
Without bothering to read the letter she took the mysterious package directly, Harry noticed the big smile on Tanya's face noting that, like him, she knew this shape.
Harry's eyes twisted as Tanya stroked the broom like an old lover, slowly taking it in her hands. Almost forgetting even where Tanya was, he lifted a beautiful smile to the rest of the table only to be met with... Jealousy, both Harry's and that of everyone in the place. Oh... Tanya's smile couldn't have been any bigger, but she felt her cheeks almost tearing as her smile proved it could be much bigger still, and Harry noticed it perfectly without being able to keep the bitter expression off his face.
At that moment another owl entered the large dining room and deposited another pair of letters on top of Tanya's package, she had no more time to read the return address than to let out a light laugh and comment with glee:
" Is there anything that could make this day better?"
Tanya had a straight face as she reflexively raised a protective barrier when a large metal ball, theoretically a "ball" called Bludger: A metal ball thrown at kids... Kids flying through the air...kids...flying several dozen feet in the air.
Tanya knew it was a bit hypocritical of her as the training she put her soldiers through was a thousand times more extreme, but she didn't have them flying on brooms that you could fall off of, and they were soldiers, not children.
If this were not a sport so ingrained with magical culture Tanya would be more than glad to toss a stream of complaints about this subject to Malfoy's father, unfortunately, even if that were an option, Lucius had forbidden her to put cards in his son's owl, and had ordered her to buy an owl of her own. If this was such a necessary expense, why hadn't anyone mentioned it before? She seemed like the only stupid one without a texting system at school.
With a sigh Tanya suddenly opened her eyes in surprise, tilting her head quickly only dodging the Bludger narrowly, the ball had returned to attack her from behind taking advantage of her moment of distraction, that magic ball didn't hesitate for a second to aim for Tanya's blonde head.
"Hum, it's a pity that didn't knock you out, now I'll have to do the trials damn it," Marcus Flint, the captain of the Slytherin Quidditch team, a sturdy, black"haired boy mocked Tanya. Flint bent down and with both arms hugged the Bludger and then put it in a trunk with the rest of the Quidditch balls. "But well, Snape told me that you're the daughter of one of his friends abroad, a famous wizarding family or something like that. It was to be expected from someone of your talent I suppose."
Tanya twisted her mouth at the mention of her family, she had already thought of an elusive alibi story for why no one knew a pureblood wizard girl. But she hoped she would have some more time to perfect the details, for now denying it would be backfiring.
"My father is Japanese and my mother German, both wizards of course, and, in fact, my mother is the great great great great great great great great great grandson of Slytherin's cousin. That's why they both sent me to study at the school founded by a relative."
Flint's eyes widened in surprise, then he cleared his throat trying to ignore this topic.
"I see, well, let's get straight to the tests, I hope you remember the balls we'll be playing with."
"Inside out and backward sir."
Flint nodded in satisfaction then put on a hard face.
"We don't have any open spots on the team right now, if you want a spot you'll have to compete for it. That's why I brought the players here."
The other 6 members of the Slytherin team, who were hiding behind an invisibility cloak in that place, suddenly appeared in sudden and intimidating movements. However, Tanya raised an eyebrow questioningly.
"I see, so those were the guys hiding in the field, I thought they would be enemy spies so I was planning to let a lost Bludgerr hit them by accident."
The team members blinked and looked at each other, one whispered something under his breath, they seemed to think Tanya couldn't magically enhance her hearing.
"I think the little smarty wet her pants and is trying to act tough."
"Hey, don't blame her, she's just a daddy's little girl, I heard she's here because Snape forced Flint to do these trials."
"Hum, I never figured Snape would be interested in little girls, but I guess you can never know all the secrets of the Snake Chief."
The team members laughed in unison before looking at Tanya in amusement, they didn't see her as a threat, and that, underestimating her, would be their undoing, she would make sure it was.
Putting on a tender face and pretending she hadn't heard them Tanya smiled and said cheerfully.
"Oh, what great fellowship there is among the house members, thank you for giving me this opportunity! I'm sure we'll get along great."
The snakes looked at each other and then smiled at easy prey. However, for some reason, Adrian Pucey, one of the team's hunters, couldn't help but feel a shiver creep up his spine.
Flint raised his voice to impose silence on the place.
"We'll start the tryouts for the keeper's position; we'll take ten shots at the goal! Whoever stops the most shots is the winner! May the best player win!"
At that moment, a short-haired boy wearing the Slytherin Quidditch outfit, with a rather scrawny and petite build stepped forward.
" Miles Bletcher vs. Tanya Smith, for The Keeper's Post. Bletcher, get ready, we'll start with you!
With a confident smile, Bletcher hopped on the broom and floated in front of the Slytherin hoop lazily, leaning back on the broom and pretending to sleep without the slightest bit of disguising his intentions.
His companions took quaffles in their hands and took turns preparing to shoot the hoop, most with the same laziness as the guardian in question, only one shot was accurate enough to enter through the hoop skirting the guardian's loose protection with great ease. Both the hunter who cast it and the guardian in question seemed surprised but decided to dismiss it as a coincidence.
"Tanya, it's your turn!"
With a lazy movement, Tanya stopped fiddling with the wand in her hands as the twinkle in her eyes slowly faded, she then put the wand away and took flight on her brand-new broom raising several jealous glances from the crowd.
The first hunter approached Tanya with an evil smile as he aimed correctly at the hoop and fired a shot as accurate as the only one that got past the lazy keeper's guard.
However, Tanya who was stretching at the time "accidentally" kicked the ball preventing it from scoring.
"Oh? We have started already? Sorry, I was stretching."
Tanya smiled, trying to put on a cute expression, but her face seemed so sarcastic. Graham Montague, Slytherin Chaser couldn't help but feel a hint of fury inside him, which then subsided as he convinced himself it was just a fluke.
However, that assumption was put to rest sooner rather than later when Tanya "accidentally" blocked another five shots. At that moment the Slytherins got serious and so did Tanya.
Flint raised his voice at the end. "This is a draw! Bletcher and Tanya are tied with 9 blocked shots each. We move on to the beaters tests."
A pair of tall, stocky guys stepped forward and stood intimidatingly in front of Tanya. But Tanya didn't hesitate and stood in her place; she smiled warmly and offered a sporty hand. "May the best man win."
With crooked smiles, Peregrin Derrick and Lucian Bole looked at each other, at which point Derrick took Tanya's hand and squeezed it tightly as she said.
"Thank you! That's the plan." Bole crossed his arms and nodded. "A skinny girl like you is not made for the role of beater, if you want the role of seeker on the other hand you will have to go over Terence."
Tanya smiled politely as she returned a surprisingly strong handshake.
The test this time was to hit Bugles thrown at the candidates and direct them towards magically summoned dolls.
Both Bole and Derick went full force on the first try completely wrecking the test.
Tanya for her part, took position, braced herself and when the Bludger launched towards her, she took the most optimal position and hit.
A great current of wind rose.
The earth rumbled like an earthquake.
Silence filled the field as all that was heard was Tanya struggling as her face turned red.
"Scheisse!"
Then the silence was replaced by shrill laughter as the Bludger who had barely had enough strength to be stopped landed hard on Tanya's foot, causing her to curse in German as she hopped on one foot.
Tanya glared at all the laughing members of the Slytherin team.
The second shot, however, was different. Both hitters did equally well. However, Tanya's eyes were slightly shining this time and to everyone's surprise, suddenly her strength was even higher than that of the beaters.
The tests ended in a tight victory for the original beaters who were sure that if they had continued to bowl it was very likely that Tanya would beat them despite the early lead. Her accuracy was simply terrifying, hitting the heads of the dolls with each of her shots.
Despite how close they were, both beaters put on a strong face while their backs sweated cold. Tanya for her part was sweating and panting slightly as her eyes returned to normal lighting, however, a strange cold determination in her gaze made Bole and Derick tremble causing a smile on Tanya's face as she calmed her breathing and got ready for the next test by looking at Flint.
Flint seemed to look at Tanya suspiciously, but whatever was troubling his mind was omitted when Flint announced the time for the hunter trials.
Tanya rode her Nimbus 2000 and swept through the trials without many parades, instead a cool efficiency over every one of her movements doing her task easier. Causing one of the hunters, Adrian Pucey to break out in a cold sweat at the end realizing that he was the worst of all the hunters.
Finally, it was time for the last test, perhaps the easiest for Tanya, catching a small ball while flying... Tanya vs. Terence for the seeker position.
Tanya was sitting in a secret passage of the castle, in her hands a small coffee while next to her Neville trembled at the cold gaze of Malfoy who had a cup of tea in his hand. However Neville wasn't the only one uncomfortable with this situation, Malfoy was also shifting uncomfortably in his seat without really getting into a position that gave him confidence, the constant movement of his seat didn't help much either.
Despite his great facial control, Draco was having serious trouble not pouting at this moment.
The sound of Crabbe and Goyle doing push-ups filled the little secret hallway.
" ...and apparently, I set a new record by catching the golden snitch in 5.31 seconds. It was so fast that we had to bring in Professor Hoch to vouch for the achievement I could get into a professional team depending on my career at Hogwarts."
Draco stopped for a second and gave Tanya a stupid look.
"Wait, didn't you say that you entered as a hunter?
Tanya nodded. "And I did that, I am replacing Adrian Pucey in the next game.
Draco almost dropped his cup in surprise but quickly collected himself, unfortunately, some hot tea spilled on him causing both him and his seat to shake a bit.
Neville who was as lost as Draco asked the question that had to be asked.
"Why did you decide to play hunter? Wouldn't you win any game in 5 seconds?
Tanya shrugged.
"There is nothing good in floating motionless in the air expecting to find a small golden ball in the air. I can build up a lot more potential as a chaser by scoring a lot of points, plus if I do a really good job I'm confident I can take the attention of most of the enemy team so our hitters will just have to focus on actively harassing the enemy seeker until let ours find the snitch. A perfect plan!"
Draco blinked in astonishment, before commenting sarcastically. "Do you know the word teamwork?"
Tanya drank some more coffee before answering. "Only a bad manager does not know such a word, for everything to work perfectly we are all cogs in a machine performing our function, or rather, a member of a team."
Finishing her coffee Tanya blew the subject off with a harsh yell at Crabbe. "Hey! Who said you could stop?! You still have another 10 push-ups to do! You too Goyle! Don't think I didn't notice when you stopped!"
"M-Mercy."
"I-I can't feel my arms anymore."
"If they have energy left to talk, they have energy left to do another 10 push-ups! Whoever finishes first wins a slice of cake!"
Both weary boys suddenly came to life as they stared into each other's eyes for split seconds, at which point Goyle started the next push-up, but Crabbe was soon behind him.
Tanya smiled as she looked at Neville and Draco, both scrawny boys.
"I already did my morning exercise routine. Don't want to join? I'm sure they could use some muscle.
Draco shook his head quickly. "Not even in your wildest dreams, I'll just use the wand."
Tanya smiled wickedly. "What if you are unable to say the spell?"
Draco opened his mouth and then closed it, perturbed he looked at Neville who had gotten into position and started performing pushups, and then he looked back at Tanya who answered with a serious tone.
"If you follow my training, I'm going to make sure you can snap anyone's neck without your wand. Wizards tend to be physically weak and once you don't have your wand you are very sure to be underestimated or let your guard down for a moment. Take advantage of that brief moment to subdue them and steal their wand."
Draco swallowed nervously as his eyes couldn't stray from the gem-cold Tanya's eyes.
Then a loud noise caught everyone's attention.
"Oh, Hermione you finally arrived, come take a seat your tea is cold."
With a small wave of her hand, Tanya indicated Neville, sweating profusely as she performed a third push-up.
Hermione who had dropped her books upon entering the room looked incredulous at the situation, she then asked hesitantly. "Why are you sitting on the backs of those guys?
Tanya looked at her seat and nodded as if that was a pretty normal response. "Oh don't worry about that, Crabbe, Goyle, and Neville are training." It's good for your health and a great way to get rid of the stress of the school day. Now have a seat, I wanted to check something about my potions homework with you if you don't mind..."
Following Tanya's orders and with a somewhat shy attitude Hermione walked up to Neville's side, she stopped for a second looking at Neville before looking at Tanya who invited her to sit down with a gesture, Hermione hesitated a bit before asking timidly. "Can I sit on the floor?
Tanya raised an eyebrow. "Don't you want to help Neville with his strengthening exercise?"
Hermione hesitated a bit longer before carefully sitting on top of Neville.
The boy's arms trembled, but he lowered himself slowly and began to push, his face turning red with the effort. Hermione for her part was thoughtful and somewhat red as well as she encouraged Neville under her breath. Neville's arms extended fully… And then they failed causing the boy to fall painfully.
Hermione stood up quickly as she looked worriedly at the hurt and tired boy. "I'm very sorry! I'm really sorry; I shouldn't have eaten those muffins in the morning! Everything is my fault!"
Tanya commented on the air. "I don't know why the Slytherins and the Gryffindors hate each other so much, this is just so much fun." She then took the last sip of her coffee cup noticing that she had completely emptied its contents.
Draco gave Tanya a look that she seemed to say. "It's just because of this that they hate us!" But Tanya decided to ignore said look.
Author's note!
First chapter after a long vacation!
Actually, I had most of this chapter done, but a topic called The Legend of Zelda came up and my time was gone for a pose. Also, you may notice my crapy English since I mostly write in Spanish and then translate and that's also hell boring to do even if I saw it good in the first check later I re-verified and I saw how crapy some parts are... Also, I'm a bit too unmotivated to go to past chapters and update the bad parts. Will do it though… At some point.
Tanya on the other hand, was not selected as a hunter because that position I have reserved for Draco but also because Tanya would rather fly through the air with freedom than was reflected in the role of seeker. Especially when she's not flying in the middle of a war.
Anyway, I hope you like the chapter, it is, as most of the shit I made is not serious nor too good XD.
See you again in an indeterminate time, I have already finished half of the next chapter but indeed, I have another half to do.
Sincerely.
"Surpassingly, you gain a few kilos eating 15 tacos a day, it's time to go to the gym"

PS. I actually publish this chapter in Spanish on May 22 XD.
PS2. I'm not entirely sure if I spelled the names of the Quidditch balls correctly...
