Neon Genesis Evangelion

Evangelion Malevolence: Rise to Fall, Fall to Rise

Godzilla lifted Ghidorah by its middle head and threw it across the city towards a building that crumbled into pieces under its immense weight, leaving the golden beast incapacitated with several lacerations on its abdomen and legs.

"Rrrrraaaurgh!" Godzilla roared as he charged his atomic breath again, taking aim at Ghidorah.

He was going to leave no trace of this obstacle that deserved the same fate as the rest of the nation that disgraced the fallen of the past and deserved no future. To burn away into nothingness by poisonous fire was to be the penance of all that dared to forget the sins of the past.

Ghidorah raised his three heads to stare down Godzilla as he prepared to unleash his atomic breath upon the golden dragon. He refused to show fear in the face of death.

"Rrrraaurgh!" Battra roared as he flew towards Godzilla's head and slammed into him, knocking his attack off into the night sky, causing it to glow blue for a few seconds, as if Godzilla had ignited the heavens with his unholy fire.

"Whoa," Shinji and Rumiko reacted in awe.

"Yeah," Misato agreed with them.

Godzilla, once he stood upright again, grabbed Battra by his wings and ripped them with all of his might, causing the dark insect to bleed out more yellow pus.

"Rrrraurgh!" Battra shrieked as he tried to fire one last attack at Godzilla from his eyes, but the hateful beast threw the insect away with his wings maimed.

Battra crashed into another nearby building and it collapsed under him, becoming flames and debris, followed by an explosion.

"Grr," Godzilla grunts as he returns his attention to Ghidorah, who had gotten up and moved behind some other buildings, obscuring him. "Grr."

"…Even with iodine tablets," Ritsuko informed Fuyutsuki about Gendo's chances of survival after coming down with radiation sickness, "his exposure to the fallout was severe and his thyroid can only absorb so much iodine."

"So, he's dying?" Fuyutsuki asks her, looking into the room at the bedridden Gendo, whose face started to show signs of radiation exposure.

"Yes."

"How long does he have?"

"Best guesstimate? He has about a week at best. Maybe less. Maybe even another four hours or so. As I said, the thyroid can only absorb so much iodine."

"Has anyone been able to contact Captain Katsuragi?"

"No. Phone lines are down here and none of the cell towers are active. Even if we could piggyback on military communications, we wouldn't be able to get in touch with anyone close enough to contact her. Worse-case scenario, they're likely near Godzilla, and the radiation it's giving off is affecting electrical systems to the point of disabling them. It's also a possibility that she might not even be with the Third Child."

"Until we know for sure, we have to assume that she is. If Ikari doesn't have long to live, his son needs to know."

"But does he really?"

It was pretty common knowledge in NERV that neither father or son were interested in the other to the point of being complete strangers…and the last time they ever spoke to one another, it was only about the fact that the boy had left the city to pick up some statues for the temple he worked at, leaving them vulnerable to the Angels that never showed up to attack…and had been instead dealt a severe blow by a creature that was more dangerous than the Angels due to its brutality. It was also likely that the Third Child wouldn't be affected by the knowledge of his father dying from radiation poisoning; he demonstrated some concern for the people that were trying to get away from Godzilla when the decision was made to try and bomb the location where it fought with Baragon because that was the decision made to sacrifice the few to protect the many, but he didn't care much for the potential repercussions of what Godzilla could do if it continued with its rampage and killed more people. Who knows how he'd react to the knowledge of his father dying if he was still alive and didn't know?

"Strangers or not," Fuyutsuki states, "whether his father wants nothing to do with him or not, Shinji has a right to know what's going on with him."

That was easier said than done. With communications down, how was anyone within the Geo-Front supposed to send so much as a text message to anyone?

The JSSDF was not making progress at all against Godzilla, even with the aid of the other Guardian Monsters present. No matter how many missiles or explosives they used against it, it showed no signs of being harmed. Even Shinji and Rumiko noticed this and recalled how it seemed like whatever was thrown at it, Godzilla wouldn't fall. Reminded of his brief and poor performance against it, Shinji recalled the bizarre feeling he got when he attempted to use the Eva's Prog. Knife against Godzilla.

"That monster's hide is too thick," he finally says.

"Like a crocodile's," added Rumiko.

"What?" Misato questions.

"Don't you read or watch animal documentaries?" Rumiko responds. "Crocodiles have armored hides, making attempts to injure them challenging. Animals with hides thick enough to withstand so much as a bullet aren't really going to be easy to kill, let alone harm."

Except Misato had no clue on what a crocodile was; her education leaned towards relevant information unrelated to the animal kingdom, and up until a few days ago, didn't even believe in an animal that was large enough to destroy cities. This was also why she supported the failed attempt to bomb the creature with N² explosives; no matter how tough this Godzilla was, there was no way it could withstand the intensity of a few bombs that rivaled the power of nukes without the fallout. And if that didn't work, there was always the use of real nukes.

"And you two still believed that sacrificing a few lives to save a lot of them from this creature was morally wrong?" She asks them.

"In a word?" Shinji responds.

"Yes!" He and Rumiko tell her, earning a disappointing glare from her.

"So, in other words, even the JSSDF is wasting their time firing missiles at Godzilla because its hide is too tough?"

"More or less," Rumiko states.

"Then how the Hell are we supposed to fight something like that?"

The teens didn't have the answer to her question. All they knew was what Isayama's brother had informed them, that Godzilla was still an animal that could be defeated…and that the Guardian Monsters left alive would fight to defend the homeland from it. As long as even a couple of the Japanese remained, the nation had a future.

"Grrraaurgh!" They heard the roaring of Battra as it rose from the ashes of the building it crashed onto, attempting to fly for the final time towards Godzilla.

"Oh, jeez," went Shinji as the black moth flapped its wings harder to stay airborne.

Godzilla, who was looking for Ghidorah within the city, saw Battra and charged his atomic breath to finish it off.

BLAST! The irradiated reptile unleashed his fury upon the insect, reducing it to ashes that glowed in the air, assuming its previous form before scattering across the sky.

"Rrrrrraaurgh!" Godzilla roared triumphantly; one less enemy meant one less obstacle.

"Iiiiee!" Mothra chirped in anger over this and fired her stingers at the beast, trying to knock him down again. "Iiiiee!"

But Godzilla refused to be impeded again by these distractions and charged his atomic breath again to eliminate her.

SMASH! Ghidorah emerged from under the ground and bit into Godzilla's arms and neck, sending surges of electrical discharges into the enemy's body.

"You people need to go," a soldier tells Shinji and the others. "It's not safe here."

"It's not safe anywhere right now," he responds.

As Godzilla tries to free himself from Ghidorah, Mothra latches onto the back of his head with her legs and stabbing him with her stinger, digging as deep as she could to cause him pain. All this did was remind Godzilla of the arrogance of those that stood in his way of dealing in judgement to those that deserved to pay for their sins.

Ghidorah's middle head tightened its jaws on Godzilla's neck, managing to penetrate the dense hide and draw blood.

"Rrrrraarugh!" Godzilla shrieked as he raised his left foot up and kicked Ghidorah in the waist, knocking the golden dragon backwards, but at the cost of bits of his own hide that covered his neck and arms. "Rrrrraurgh!"

Ghidorah fell onto the streets and it was a struggle for him to get back up.

Blast! Godzilla's atomic breath had impacted with the golden dragon and sent him skidding further back into he smashed into a building that fell onto him, covering him in debris.

As the beeping of the heart monitor continued to make itself heard, Gendo continued to deteriorate from the radiation he was afflicted with by Godzilla when it attacked the Geo-Front.

"Commander Ikari," he heard Rei's voice as he turned to face the albino girl on his right, looking down at him. "Are you well?"

"No," he responds to her question. "I'm dying."

"Has there been no word on the status of the Third Child?"

"No…and I don't expect for there to be any update. He up and left as soon as he could upon learning that the Eva was destroyed. Only a coward would up and leave the instant they found out something that they felt nullified their position within NERV."

Rei wasn't too sure about that belief, but knew that their attempts to stop Godzilla had failed due to several factors, one of which included how none of their weapons were effective against the monster due to its durability. Another factor was how the monster was not an Angel, something that NERV was originally prepared to face. The fact that Godzilla was something they were not prepared for and therefore unable to deal with was the reason they had lost.

"What do you suppose will happen?" She asks Gendo.

"At this point," he responds, "whatever he chooses to do is whatever he chooses to do."

In honesty, Gendo didn't care what Shinji did; with the Evas destroyed, Unit-01 in particular, Lilith destroyed, the Geo-Front damaged and himself dying from radiation exposure, there was no future for anyone. He had lost the primary pieces of his scenario, just as SEELE had lost the primary piece to their own scenario, and all because of a rogue element that they hadn't prepared for that left a curse on the nation of Japan for over fifty years since its initial appearance after the global war that left it in ruins. This, combined with his compromised health and his son going rogue for the umpteenth time since he had him summoned to the city to pilot the Eva, something he questioned every chance he got, made any sense of redemption or having a second chance to get what he was after very unlikely. Yeah, at this point, Gendo was just another victim of a beast considered a god by the people of the previous century that saw it.

"Are you…not worried about him?" Rei wanted to know.

Gendo could've answered that he wasn't worried about his son at all…but would it have been the truth…or just a lie?

The predecessor organization of the JSSDF may have claimed the credit for killing the first Godzilla, but they were facing difficulties in earning their credit with this new Godzilla. No matter what they hit it with, it wasn't going down. Missiles, bullets, explosives, nothing was working, and even the remaining Guardian Monsters were facing some difficulty against it, but they were landing greater hits than the military was. But Godzilla was done with these distractions and hindrances getting in his way of his mission, and he would reduce them to nothing more than a memory.

His dorsal fins glowed blue, but then glowed red and gave the impression that they were smoldering as steam was being emitted from them.

BLAST! He fired his atomic breath…and scorched the area around himself, leaving only charred debris, leaving no trace of anything living that hadn't been able to get away.

"Oh, jeez," went Shinji, as he, Rumiko and Misato had been fortunate enough to get away from the scene of the intense fighting, but could still feel the heat.

"That is one serious monster," added Rumiko.

"Yarp," Pen-Pen responded, terrified of Godzilla.

Some buildings that hadn't been scorched or destroyed by the attack fell over and revealed Godzilla, who looked down at the people on the street that were still trying to flee.

Shinji's eyes widened in fear, reminded how Fuyutsuki had seen the beast, describing it as a demon full of hatred. He felt Rumiko holding his left hand, looking at him with fear.

"Rrrrufth!" They heard a different chirping sound from Mothra as she appeared further behind Godzilla, her wings burning a little as she tried to remain airborne, approaching him.

As he charged his atomic breath again, Godzilla became infuriated by the fact that he missed his mark. With his breath charged up, he quickly turned around…and corrected his mistake!

"Iiiiee!" Mothra shrieked, burning away in the blue light and fire. "Iiiiiieee!"

Reduced to nothing but glowing ashes, Mothra's remains gathered together, assuming an echo of her imago form…and then scattered again.

"Rrrrrraaurgh!" Godzilla roared in triumph, having disposed of another enemy in his way.

"Mothra," Rumiko uttered in disbelief, feeling a sense of hopelessness sweep over her.

Shatter! The statue representing Mothra fell to pieces in front of Itsudatsu, who frowned in frustration over the second Guardian Monster's fall.

"Mothra has fallen," he utters to the rest of the temple. "Ghidorah…it's all up to you now. You're all that's left that stands between us and the end of our lives."

The third statue, minus a piece of its head, suddenly glowed bright yellow.

Mothra's ashes had redirected themselves towards the fallen form of Ghidorah and bathed him in light.

"Hrrr," his three heads groaned as bioelectrical discharges surged across his body. "Grr!"

Pulse! His heart felt a major jolt in its actions, circulating more blood throughout his body.

All six of his eyes snapped open as new energy coursed through him!

FLASH! A blinding light illuminated the sky around where he had fallen as a pair of mighty wings stretched outward, followed by three heads that roared and cackled as if to signify that the day had risen to lay waste to the night!

"Oh, my!" Misato gasped, unable to believe she was seeing this.

Ghidorah's heads shrieked and cackled at Godzilla as he floated several feet above himself and the city, waiting for the beast of destruction to make his next move.

"Ghidorah has risen again," went Rumiko in awe.

"No," Shinji responds. "Not Ghidorah. This…is the Thousand-Year-Old Dragon. This…is the God of the Sky. King Ghidorah!"

Rumiko found she couldn't question his sense of reasoning and went with it. And she had to admit to herself that he was right. This three-headed monster was different from the previous one that hadn't looked capable of flight. In fact, this one seemed ready for a fight that was more dangerous than they could imagine.

King Ghidorah, she thought, show us all what you can do.

To be continued…

A/N: What did you think so far? I get that this was far behind, but I will try to update it as much as I can. The site is a little unstable for many right now, and I hope that the bugs get worked out in the future. I think there were some emotions struggling to rise in some in this chapter that fell down in others.
