First off: belated happy New Year and welcome to 2022. Last month I said that this fic will be ready by the end of January, but for a reason it ended up getting delayed, in which I won't make any excuses. It is because I caught the COVID despite getting vaccinated, and I believe that I have gotten the Omicron variant. Thankfully I managed to recover while isolating myself inside my house but as a result working on this and my other fanfics slowed down, hence the late update of this fic.

Now that I finished my explanation…time to get down to business…

Many thanks to those who read and reviewed this fic. I really appreciated it and this gave me inspiration to work on the next chapter and here, the current story arc is underway, as Uraraka and the others are set to qualify in the tournament, where something unexpected is about to take place…which might put them in a risky predicament…

Well then, read on and enjoy!

Ch. 34: Budō tōnamento part 6

The audience are shown to be getting excited and anxious as they wanted to see the tournament begin, and are clamoring for the show to get started, and their demands are echoing the entire stadium as they demanded that the match start at once, which the sponsors are starting to feel the pressure as they couldn't afford a riot to take place.

"START THE MATCH!"

"START THE MATCH!"

"START THE MATCH!"

"START THE MATCH!"

"START THE MATCH!"

"START THE MATCH!"

"START THE MATCH!"

"START THE MATCH!"

One of the sponsors approached the organizer and whispered to him to do something as they cannot afford getting some bad publicity and the two briefly debated on how to start the match and give the audiences something to satisfy their craving as they felt that they wanted something new and exciting to see for an opener.

"What should we do?"

"Er…"

"The audience are getting restless…and they might get bored if we do the usual…"

"Hmm…"

"Well…?"

"Okay…here's what we will do…"

"…very well…carry on…"

"Okay…"

After a minute or two, the organizer whispered to the ring announcer and gave him instructions, and the ring announcer nodded and announced that the qualifying participants head to the tournament ring as the organizer is going to make an impromptu announcement.

Soon the participants are assembled and are awaiting the announcement, where the organizer said that a new method of determining the top eight participants who would qualify for the quarter-final round, which is a battle royal match, in which the participants will go into an all-out brawl, and all they have to do is knock their opponents out of the ring, and the remaining eight will automatically qualify for the three rounds:

- Quarter-Finals

- Semi-Finals

- Finals

The audience were slightly surprised to hear the sudden announcement that the qualifying matches has turned into a one-round battle royal, in which all of the qualifying participants would battle each other at the same time until only eight combatants are left standing and that would mean that the remaining eight would advance into the quarter-final match.

This somewhat elicited some mixed reaction as some are divided in opinion which others are in favor and some are unsure how this would work since it might shorten the length of the tournament yet in the end the audiences seemingly accepted this impromptu opening format.

"A battle royal?"

"Seriously?"

"Oh come on…"

"Its too short…"

"Its fine…"

"Better than the same old, same old…"

"I'm sure the fight would be longer…"

"Whatever…just start the match!"

Snek and Lightning Max seemed to question the sudden shift, as the past events usually start with one-on-one matches to determine the qualified eight participants, and felt that the sponsors might be up to something scrupulous, but decided to abide for now.

"A battle royal?"

"So suddenly…?"

"I think something is up…"

"Maybe."

"What now?"

"Lets play their rules for now."

"You sure?"

"Yeah."

Bakugo and Kirishima grinned as this is the type of match they like, and there they told Ojiro and Kendo to assist Uraraka as they need to make it to the top eight, which the four teens nodded in agreement, as they are going to watch each other's back and make sure that they will make it to the quarter-final match.

"Okay! We're going to smash!"

"Ojiro, Kendo! You know what to do!"

"Assist Uraraka!"

"And try to remain in the ring so we can advance to the qualifying round!"

"Yeah!"

"Yeah!"

"Yeah!"

"Yeah!"

Just as the participants are about to get ready, one of them casually approached Uraraka and Kendo, and the two female UA Academy students blinked their eyes as the participants approached the two and smiled like a pretty boy, and complimented the two for being GORGEOUS, and said that boys would surely FALL HEADS OVER HEELS on the two attractive girls.

Kendo and Uraraka immediately realized that this guy, though good-looking, is HITTING and FLIRTING on them, yet they politely turn him down, saying that they have justifiable reasons for participating in this tournament, and have no time to entertain guys who are treating girls like trophies.

The good-looking participant, identified only as Suiryu, acted like he is unaware, and said that he is simply complimenting the two, but then told the two girls that the moment they meet at the qualifying round, he will defeat the two girls and said that if he wins he will take either Kendo and/or Uraraka on a date.

This didn't sit well with the two girls and told Suiryu that it won't happen as they are not interested in him and told him that his actions are bordering on harassment, which Suiryu tried to deny the accusations.

"Ah-ha-ha-ha…you misunderstood…I was…"

"Sorry. We're not interested…"

"And your approach is very rude."

"Uh…you two are mistaken…I was only complimenting…"

"You didn't."

"So please leave us alone."

"Now, now…"

"…"

"…"

Suddenly, Ojiro came and stood in front of Suiryu, telling him to leave Uraraka and Kendo alone, telling him that the two girls are focusing on the tournament and have no time in entertaining any guys trying to JUMP on them and tells Suiryu to leave now.

Suiryu asked if Ojiro is the boyfriend of either girls, but the UA Academy student deny and said that Uraraka and Kendo are his schoolmates and tells Suiryu that he should just focus on the tournament and not treat the two girls as mere objects that he can covet, though Suiryu calmly said that he is just being friendly, but Ojiro said that the girls' reactions say otherwise.

"Hey…I was just…"

"Leave my friends alone."

"Whoa…easy…"

"I won't let anyone harass them. Go."

"…"

"If you persist, I will…"

"Is that a challenge…?"

"…"

By then the ring announcer spoke and told everyone to get ready as the battle royal will commence in a minute, and Suiryu glanced at Kendo and winked at her, and she clenched her fists as this made her get pumped up and tells Uraraka and Ojiro to do their best and make it to the remaining eight, saying that she really wanted to teach Suiryu a lesson so that he will think twice about hitting on girls, which Uraraka and Ojiro agreed.

"Uraraka…Ojiro...don't hold back. Beat everyone else."

"Okay."

"Okay."

"If any of you encounter that creep…throw him out of the ring."

"Okay."

"Okay."

"In case he made it to the final eight…I'll be the one to beat him up."

"Okay."

"Okay."

Soon the bell rang and the battle royal commences, where the qualifying participants began to fight each other as the rules stated that the only way to finish the match is to throw your opponents out of the ring, and the audiences were getting invested as the action is exciting, which was quite better than the previous year's opening event

In less than 90 seconds, five participants were thrown out of the ring, and things are getting intense as Bakugo and Kirishima worked as a tandem as they used their fighting skills to outclass and outsmart their opponents, eventually tricking them into falling off the ring and got eliminated.

Uraraka and Kendo did the same, working as a tandem and watched each other's backs and scored a lot of eliminations as they tricked other opponents into falling off the ring, and Kendo told Uraraka that once they make it to the elimination and semifinals, they would have to give their all should they become opponents, which Uraraka nodded.

"So when we meet…let's give our all, Uraraka."

"Okay."

"If we meet in the next round…it's nothing personal."

"Got it."

"Now let's focus on getting rid of the rest."

"Right."

"Lets go!"

"Alright!"

As more eliminations took place, the number of participants dwindled and there Suiryu is facing Ojiro, and he reminded the teen boy that Quirks are not allowed in this match, which Ojiro nodded and uses his fighting skills to take on Suiryu, and to his surprise, Suiryu appeared to be much more experienced as he is slowly overpowering him.

Ojiro managed to hold on and was able to land some blows and Suiryu staggered back, and he is somewhat surprised to see that Ojiro is quite persistent and decided to take him seriously as the two traded blows, such as punches and kicks, and though quite evenly matched, Suiryu managed to find an opening and delivered a spinning kick which stunned Ojiro before receiving another kick, and the impact was strong enough to send Ojiro out of the ring, and is eliminated.

Lightning Max and Snek saw it and are surprised to see that Suiryu had just defeated a UA Academy student in terms of hand-to-hand combat, yet they surmised that if facing an opponent who is using a Quirk, it might give a different outcome.

"That guy…"

"He beat that kid…"

"He's just lucky. And it's all because Quirks are not allowed in this tournament."

"Yeah. If this was a different setting the results would be different."

"So that guy shouldn't let this get to his head…"

"Right."

"…"

"…"

In a matter of minutes only eight participants remained in the ring and the ring announcer said that the remaining eight will advanced towards the Quarter-Finals, and announced the names of the final eight, which are:

- Lightning Max

- Snake Fist Sneck

- Bakuzan

- Suiryu

- Ochako Uraraka

- Katsuki Bakugo

- Eijiro Kirishima

- Itsuka Kendo

The three Class 1-A members and Kendo were surprised to see that Ojiro was eliminated and learned that Suiryu is the one who eliminated him, and this caused Kendo and Uraraka to become more determined to give their all and make it to the Semi-Finals and Finals, and vowed to defeat Suiryu in a fair fight as they would not let him have his way with the two girls whom he tried to flirt earlier.

Bakugo and Kirishima glanced at Suiryu and there the two boys told each other to look out for Suiryu, seeing that he is someone not to be taken lightly after seeing how Ojiro was hurt after being eliminated, and this made Bakugo feel pumped up as he sensed that he has found someone challenging.

"Bakugo…better be on the lookout…that guy just eliminated Ojiro…"

"Heh…now this is interesting…"

"Better not get carried away, Bakugo...I got a feeling that he's more than…"

"Whatever. It make things interesting. At least I can use my knuckles instead of my Quirk."

"Whoa, whoa…"

"You should get pumped up as well, Kirishima. You're a man, right? You like challenges, so that guy is…"

"You got a point…yeah, I can take him on…"

"Heh…now I'm looking forward…"

To Be Continued...
