Ch. 36: Budō tōnamento part 8
The audience are shown to be getting excited and anxious as the ring announcer spoke via the microphone that the eight fighters that are remaining in the ring are the ones to advance in the next round, and the ring announcer further said that the remaining eight will advanced towards the Quarter-Finals, and announced the names of the final eight, which are:
- Lightning Max
- Snake Fist Sneck
- Bakuzan
- Suiryu
- Ochako Uraraka
- Katsuki Bakugo
- Eijiro Kirishima
- Itsuka Kendo
The audiences were quite surprised to hear this as every year the participants consists of mostly adults, and for the first time teenagers are now amongst the final eight, and on top of that, most of the participants are from UA Academy, and some of the audiences are wondering if any of the UA Academy students would make it to the semifinals and the finals given that Quirks are not allowed in this tournament.
"Wow…"
"Now that's a first…"
"Students from UA Academy..."
"But…Quirks are not allowed…"
"Oh boy…they're up against strong fighters…"
"But this is interesting…"
"Think those kids could pull it off…?"
"That's something I got to see…"
After a while, the ring announcer instructed the eight participants to come here as they will be drawing a piece of paper where their names are written to determine who their opponent is in the upcoming round, and the UA Academy students are bracing themselves as they are looking forward to face whoever the opponent is, be it a stranger or a schoolmate.
As the eight participants are assembled in the ring, they saw a rather large box is displayed, and one of the tournament sponsors put a hand inside and took out two pieces of paper and gave it to a referee, then repeated the process and after that the referee showed the names to the other tournament officials and after a minute they wrote the names on the whiteboard where there would be four matches in the quarterfinals, and everyone saw who would be facing each other:
- Lightning Max vs. Ochako Uraraka
- Snake Fist Sneck vs. Itsuka Kendo
- Bakuzan vs. Katsuki Bakugo
- Suiryu vs. Eijiro Kirishima
Bakugo seemingly didn't mind it while Kirishima clenched his fists as he gets to square off against Suiryu, as he now gets the chance to shine and teach Suiryu a lesson in humility that he shouldn't hit on girls like what he did earlier, and as both Kendo and Uraraka are relieved that they can at least make it to the semifinals, Suiryu once more remind the two girls that the deal is set, and as the two girls are annoyed, Kirishima sternly told Suiryu to stop harassing the girls, which Suiryu seemingly ignored, and tells the red-haired teen to go to Shibuya and look for girls like how he told Bakugo about it, and the blonde-haired teen got pissed off, threatening to go all-out but his three schoolmates held him back.
"Easy, Bakugo…"
"Grr…"
"Don't let him rile you up…"
"Grr…"
"You'll get your chance…for now let's tow with the rules…"
"Grr…"
"Now simmer down…remember why we came here…"
"Grr…"
Tournament officials broke up the possible conflict and told them to settle their dispute once their matches begin, and Bakugo was escort towards a waiting area where Kirishima urged his classmate not to let Suiryu rile him as he said that Suiryu is just wanting to show off to the girls and nothing more.
Bakugo just grunted and said that he looks forward to meet Suiryu in either the semifinals or the finals, though Kirishima said it would depend if Suiryu falls to him later in the quarterfinals match.
"Let me give it a shot."
"Think you can do it, Kirishima?"
"I think I can."
"Hmph."
"…"
"Break his teeth if you get the chance so he won't smile again."
"You got it, Bakugo."
"Hmph."
However, Ojiro approached his two classmates and told them not to take Suiryu lightly, telling them that he felt Suiryu packs some good offense and techniques which resulted in Ojiro himself getting eliminated, and thus he advised Kirishima not to let his guard down and if an opportunity rises, he should try beating Suiryu by ring-out.
"…and that's the advise I could offer…"
"Okay, Ojiro."
"Just watch out for his movements, Kirishima. He can be nimble at times."
"Okay."
"And remember…Quirks aren't allowed."
"Got it "
"Good luck, Kirishima."
"Thanks, Ojiro."
Likewise, Kendo tells Uraraka that they should watch the match between Kirishima and Suiryu, saying that she has a feeling that Suiryu is someone not to be taken lightly after being told by Ojiro that he was eliminated from the qualifying match by Suiryu, and she would like to see if Kirishima has the means to teach Suiryu a lesson in humility.
Uraraka nodded and said that she hopes that Kirishima would at least mess up Suiryu's face so he would stop his foolish vanity in trying to hit on girls.
"Okay. We should watch the match."
"Yeah, Kendo."
"I think Kirishima might stand a chance."
"I think so too "
"If he managed to beat Suiryu by ring-out then that'll make things easier."
"Yeah."
"Lets watch and observe."
"Right."
By then the ring announcer spoke via the microphone and requested that the first two participants to be called would enter the arena, where the first match of the quarterfinals match would commence, and there Suiryu and Kirishima were called, revealing that they are the first to fight.
As Suiryu is heading to the arena, he glanced at the two girls and reminded them of the AGREEMENT they made, and Uraraka became pissed and seemingly forget about the rules and is poised to use her Quirk but Kendo restrains her while assuring to her that she will get her chance should Kirishima fail.
"Easy, Uraraka…"
"Grr…"
"Don't let him rile you up. He's not worth it…"
"Grr…damn that who does he think he is…?"
"You'll get your chance…for now let's tow with the rules…trust me, Uraraka."
"Grr…"
"Now simmer down…remember why we came here…"
"Grr…fine."
Kirishima came to his two schoolmates' aid and shoved Suiryu, telling him to stop harassing the two girls as he made it clear that Kendo and Uraraka are not interested in Suiryu at all and he should stop picking on them at once, threatening to beat his PRETTY FACE if he continues to harass the two girls.
Tournament officials broke up the potential melee and told the two to head to the arena, which Suiryu smiled as he did so, while Kirishima promised Kendo and Uraraka that he will win this match and make Suiryu look like a fool, which the two girls nodded.
Bakugo approached Kirishima and discreetly told his classmate not to lose focus and be on guard, saying that he has a feeling that Suiryu won't be an easy opponent and said that if a chance presented itself, Kirishima should try win via ring-out as he noticed that Suiryu may not be a pushover at all.
"…so try using that tactic…but don't let him get …"
"Okay, Bakugo ."
"And keep your eyes open and watch out for his movements, Kirishima. He might be slicker than what he looks like."
"Okay."
"If he is near the edge of the ring, try to subtlety lure him there and try a sneak attack so he would be thrown out. There you could win."
"Got it "
"Good luck, Kirishima."
"Thanks, Bakugo."
Kirishima was quite surprised to hear Bakugo saying something so serious, but after glancing at Suiryu warming himself up, and after having a brief talk with Ojiro earlier, Kirishima nodded and tells Bakugo that he will keep a sharp eye on Suiryu and would consider Bakugo's advise if the opportunity presented itself.
"Okay, Bakugo, I'll give it a shot."
"Think you can pull it off, Kirishima?"
"I think I can."
"Hmph."
"…"
"Timing is the key. Don't give him room to counterattack."
"You got it, Bakugo."
"Hmph."
After that, Kirishima went to the arena where Suiryu is waiting, and there the ring announcer told the two participants the rules of the match, in which they can use any fighting techniques, be it punches, kicks, and the like, and they can use submission moves as well but weapons AND Quirks are prohibited, which if one of them uses it, the participant would be disqualified in an instant.
Moreover, the ring announcer said that to win, one must knock the opponent out into unconsciousness, make him/her submit, if the opponent is down and couldn't get up by the count of 10, or have his/her opponent get thrown out of the arena via ring-out.
Both Suiryu and Kirishima nodded and the ring announcer said that the match will start now, and there the audience are curious and intrigued as who would advance to the next round, as some are rooting for Suiryu and some for Kirishima, though they wonder if the latter could pull through given that he relied on his Quirk and here he cannot use his in this tournament.
"Aw…I hope Suiryu's pretty face won't get ruined…"
"He's too cute…"
"I want him to win…"
"I want to date him…"
"Go for it, red hair!"
"Think he'll win? Quirks aren't allowed…"
"He can pull it off…"
"I'm betting on that kid…"
Soon the bell rang and the two participants charged at each other and soon Suiryu scored the first hit as he did a sliding kick and tripped Kirishima before kicking the UA student on his face with a strong force, sending him back near the edge of the arena, which the audience thought that Suiryu might score a quick and early victory.
Kirishima was able to stop his slide and Bakugo was quite surprised to see that Suiryu is indeed someone not to be taken lightly after seeing how he managed to do a sneak attack and down Kirishima unexpectedly. As the UA student got up, he was sporting a bleeding nose and lips, and both Kendo and Uraraka glanced at each other, realizing that this match would be an intense one as they sensed that Kirishima would have a hard time landing a hit on Suiryu.
"Whoa…"
"Kirishima…"
"That Suiryu...he is not an easy opponent…"
"Kirishima has to win…"
"Then let's have faith in him, Uraraka."
"…"
"And we should brace ourselves…"
"Right…"
The match continued as Suiryu attempted to repeat his strategy and then use a bit of force so as to get a victory by ring-out, but Kirishima was able to avoid the sliding kick and landed on top of Suiryu, grappling onto him and began to roll together and head towards the edge of the arena.
The audience saw this and are surprised that Kirishima is attempting to risk a double ring-out as a desperate attempt to have Suiryu eliminated even if it would mean Kirishima would also be eliminated from the match as well, yet they are curious if he could pull it off easily.
"Whoa!"
"That's a desperation move!"
"Is he serious..?"
"What is he up to?"
"He'll be eliminated as well!"
"Lets wait and see…"
"Can that red hair succeed?"
"I wonder…"
However, Suiryu was able to stop the rolling and elbowed Kirishima on the face before breaking free, and as he gets up, he is nearly punched by Kirishima as he attempted to land a hit before grabbing him in a bearhug and attempted to throw him off the arena.
But Suiryu thought fast and did an eye-poke, stunning Kirishima before he did a strong side kick on his gut, and the impact sends Kirishima out of the arena and onto the ground below, eliminating him and thus Suiryu won the match and is the first to advance to the semifinal round of the tournament.
To Be Continued...
Hope you liked this chapter, as the first match of the quarterfinals began, and though not as hard-hitting, it did show that Kirishima is attempting to try a tactic seeing that facing Suiryu head-on is not a good one and tried to eliminate him in a risky gamble.
Unfortunately it didn't pay off as Suiryu managed to outwit his opponent and became the first to advance…
Preview:
The next chapter continues the Quarter-Finals of the tournament, and some OPM characters will pop out…among them Lightning Max and Snakefist Snek…and there the UA Academy students are going to have their hands full as one of their names would be drawn on who would be their opponent…
