Many thanks to those who read and reviewed this fic. I really appreciated it and this gave me inspiration to work on the next chapter and here, the current story arc is underway, as the second round of the quarterfinals is about to commence as Kendo goes one-on-one with Snakefist Snek…

Well then, read on and enjoy!

Ch. 38: Budō tōnamento part 10

Back at the stadium, the audience were gearing up in excitement as the intermission ended, and the next contestants were announced and summoned to the arena, and the contestants' names were Snakefist Snek and Kendo, which the spectators are intrigued, having seen them in action (Snek in public and Kendo via the televised UA School Festival), and some of the spectators are expecting a heavy hand-to-hand combat.

"Whoa…"

"So they're next…"

"This should be interesting…"

"A hand-to-hand combat…"

"But Snek is better…"

"I'm betting on Kendo…"

"Who is going to win…"

"Hmm…"

As Kendo and Snek are being instructed by the referee, Uraraka watches on as she wondered what Snek is like fighting, as she has very little information about him besides the word-of-mouth claims, though Ojiro tells her that he got some info about Snek, in which he has no Quirk and relies on his martial arts skills, which made her realize that she may be in Snek's level.

"Really?"

"Yeah. But his techniques like Snake Fists and stuff are not to be underestimated. I saw a few footages of how he fight."

"And…?"

"He's good."

"For real…?"

"Believe me. Otherwise he wouldn't be in this quarterfinals…"

"…"

"…"

Soon the audience were getting anxious and called on to the referee to start the match, as they are excited to see the battle between Snek and Kendo, which some of the audience are rooting for her given how she perform at the televised UA Academy Sports Festival, which the chants got a bit louder than usual.

"START THE MATCH! I'm for Kendo!"

"START THE MATCH! Snek will win!"

"START THE MATCH! We want Kendo!"

"START THE MATCH! Go get her, Snek!"

"START THE MATCH! Kendo for the win!"

"START THE MATCH! Go Kendo!"

"START THE MATCH! I root for Kendo!"

"START THE MATCH! Kendo!"

Lighting Max was a bit surprised to see that some of the audience are rooting for Kendo, and this made him curious as Snek is ranked in A-Class, which mentally prompted him to wonder if Kendo is really that popular, and given that she is a student at UA Academy, Max decided to watch the match carefully and see if she is a good fighter and if she is worth recruiting for Heroes Association.

Other participants are also intrigued, seeing that the audience are cheering for Kendo, which made them wondering if Snek is losing in popularity or if the audience are now preferring younger ones, given how attractive Kendo is though they wondered if she can hold out against Snek given his fighting capabilities which are based on his fighting style.

"So they're rooting for that chick…"

"Looks like Snek is losing it…"

"Guess his popularity is getting stale…"

"Maybe…"

"I'm intrigued about that girl…"

"Me too…"

"Think she could win…?"

"Lets find out…"

As the gong rang, both Snek and Kendo went towards one another and began to trade blows and parries, which Snek uses his techniques like the Snake Fists and other snake-themed attacks, and Kendo went on the defensive as she uses her arms to parry and block the attacks, though she felt some stinging pain due to the blows of his snake-themed strikes.

As Snek tried to get an opening, Kendo found one on her own and did a roundhouse kick and then a thrust kick on his side, sending him careening back before managing to regain his composure and he became more cautious, as he realized that Kendo is no ordinary girl and mentally recognize her as a formidable martial artist.

Lighting Max watched the match carefully as he sees this as a close battle as Snek went on the offensive and soon managed to land a strike, using a snake-thrust and hit her neck, but she managed to persevere, though Uraraka, Kirishima and Ojiro became concerned as she coughed out blood due to being struck on her throat by Snek's attack.

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

"Hang in there!"

"Don't give up!"

"Fight back!"

"Win!"

Bakugo watched the match as well and told his classmates that for Kendo to win she need to find an opening and land a strong blow to incapacitate Snek, or if possible trick him into going to the edge and land a blow that would send him out of the arena and get a ring-out victory. Otherwise Snek might win by a narrow margin given how good his techniques are, causing Uraraka, Kirishima and Ojiro to stare at Bakugo in surprise.

"What?"

"What?"

"What?"

"You heard me. This is the critical moment. Kendo needs to find an opening and the right timing if she wants to win…"

"No way…"

"Kendo…"

"That guy is tough…"

"Snek is no pushover…based on how he fights…"

Bakugo's words would ring through as Snek started to get the upper hand as he landed a few successive blows and sent Kendo reeling, yet she managed to get a distance and away from the edge of the arena, and you can see her bleeding from the mouth and nostrils, as she realized that she is being bested by someone who appeared to be good in martial arts.

As Snek went for a surprise attack, Kendo got a spontaneous reaction as she wrapped her arms around Snek's, holding him in place and there she did a strong headbutt on his nose three times in succession, which injured him and caused him to go into a daze which she let him go, and Snek covered his bleeding nose while feeling a bit dizzy.

Uraraka, Kirishima and Ojiro were elevated in excitement and called on Kendo to use the chance and take Snek out before he gets the chance to recover, urging her to make her move now before it is too late, hoping that she gets the chance to clinch a win while the opportunity presented itself.

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

"Hang in there!"

"Don't give up!"

"Fight back!"

"Win!"

Kendo then ran towards Snek and did a flying kick, and the impact was strong enough to have him reeling back, and there she did a roundhouse sweep, knocking him to the floor before doing a slide dropkick which sent Snek careening towards the edge of the arena, and upon realizing it he desperately tried to balance himself in order not to fall off.

He managed to stand up and attempted to get away from the edge while figuring out where Kendo is. But it was too late as Kendo did another flying kick and the impact sent Snek out of the ring, and the referee declare Kendo as the winner and the second participant to advance in the semifinal round.

The audience were amazed at Kendo's resourcefulness, and are impressed with how she carried herself and began cheering her name, slowly making her a popular bet for the semifinals and finals of the tournament match, as well as earning some admirers, which began to rival that of Suiryu's.

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

"Kendo!"

As Kendo got off the arena, her schoolmates, save for Bakugo, approached her and aired their concerns, seeing that she is still bleeding from her nostrils and mouth, though she assured to them that she is okay and that she is going to the semifinal round, and told Bakugo and Uraraka to do their best in order to advance to the next round.

A medic came and told Kendo that he is going to check on her and see if she would be cleared to advance to the semifinal round, saying that the blows she received a while ago appeared serious, and Kendo reluctantly obliges as she followed the medic towards the clinic-tent to have herself checked out.

Uraraka, Kirishima and Ojiro appeared worried though Bakugo said that Kendo will make it through as she wanted to get a piece on Suiryu for the harassment he made to her earlier, which the others agreed.

"Kendo will make it through."

"Yeah…"

"Yeah…"

"Yeah…"

"She is itching to get even with that Suiryu guy."

"Yeah…"

"Yeah…"

"Yeah…"

Meanwhile, Max checked on Snek, and the latter, though feeling humiliated, was gracious in defeat and acknowledged that Kendo is a better fighter as he did not count on the fact that she came up with a way to halt his momentum, and Max said that Kendo is worth recruiting for the Heroes Association, which Snek agreed though it is likely that Kendo might end up in B-Class despite her Quirk.

"Itsuka Kendo, huh…"

"I think she might be a good asset to the Heroes Association..."

"Hmm…if she passes the exams…where would…"

"Given that her skills are roughly equal to yours, Snek...I think that Kendo might land on A-Class…"

"You think so?"

"That's my assessment…"

"…"

"…"

Max then told Snek to have his face checked as his nose is still bleeding after the headbutt he received from Kendo, and a medic then told Snek to come along as he would check and see if Snek would be needed to be taken to a nearby hospital, and Max told Snek to go with the medic as his nose need to be checked.

"Go with him."

"Yeah…"

"Better have your nose checked…"

"Yeah…"

"But I'm sure you'll be okay…"

"Yeah…"

"Later, Snek."

"Yeah…"

As Snek went with the medic, the scene shifts inside the clinic-tent where the doctors are there, and during the checkup, it is revealed that some of the doctors have healing-based Quirks and soon both Snek and Kendo are healed, and there the two talked which he congratulated Kendo and admitted that she is the better fighter.

Kendo nodded and apologized for the headbutting though he assured to her that it is part of the match and tells her that he is interested in recruiting her for the Heroes Association, telling her the perks and benefits, which she said that she would think about it, as she still has two years before graduating UA Academy.

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"I'll think about it. I still have two more years before graduating…"

"Take your time."

"Okay."

"The door is open. Feel free to check it out if you like…"

"Okay, thanks."

"…"
