When Jayden went to the nursery to start out with Alex, she saw the Xanatos couple leaving the room. "Hey guys." She greeted them.
"Hey, Jayden, just in time. Alex was asking for you." David stated.
"I have something exciting to tell you!" Jayden exclaimed excitedly.
"What?" Fox asked.
"Brooklyn asked me to marry him! He got me these earrings as an engagement present last night." She pointed at her new earrings.
"They're beautiful." Fox declared.
"Brooklyn said you helped pick them out."
"Yes, I did." Fox replied.
"I love them. Thank you." Jayden said.
"You're welcome. Brooklyn always says how much he loves you." Fox declared.
"I love him too. I got him a bronze motorcycle with my own money from a store downtown, though mine was more for Valentine's Day rather than an engagement present. But Brooklyn said it could be both." Jayden explained.
"That was nice of him." David agreed. "We're happy for you both. Just ask us for anything you want in the wedding. We'll make sure to throw an elegant party."
"Thank you, Mr. Xanatos." Jayden replied. "Brook and I are going to tell the others tonight. I have to be up there to greet them as they wake up.
"Alright. Owen will take over prior to sunset then." David decreed.
"Thank you."
Then it was time for her to do her job as babysitter or daycare provider. She couldn't stop feeling the earrings the rest of the day. She couldn't wait for tonight.
...
Owen took over before sunset so Jayden could go greet her love. She got up to the tall tower just prior to the sun setting and the stone fragments started cracking on every statue. Eyes lit up and there were roars that greeted the night. It was also snowing out.
Jayden was standing in the doorway as she saw her love turn around. He and the others jumped off the parapets. She then ran into his arms. "Oh!" She hugged him tightly. He wrapped his arms around her.
"What's wrong?" Brook asked in concern.
The others turned to look at them in concern too. "Is something going on, Lass?" Hudson asked.
Jayden let go of the red male and backed up. She gave him the look. He knew what she meant. Then the two of them stood together, hand in hand.
"Everyone, we have something special to tell you." Brooklyn announced.
Goliath was now down with them too. "Go on." Goliath said.
"Everyone, we're going to become mates!" Jayden shouted excitedly.
The clan smiled and cheered.
"That's wonderful!" Angela declared, going up to hug Jayden. "I'll have a sister!"
"Thanks." Jayden smiled.
"Way to go, bro!" Broadway said, patting Brooklyn on the back.
"Congratulations." Lex stated, but he felt sad mentally that another of his brothers was gaining a new mate. He would be alone.
"You are going to be a wonderful mate for our Brooklyn, Lass." Hudson said with a smile. He came up and gave her a hug. "And congrats, Lad."
"Thanks, Hudson. You are like a second father or grandfather for me." Jayden replied.
"Thanks, Hudson." Brooklyn said, smiling.
Then the two of them looked to Goliath. The lavender male had on a smile, which folks didn't see often. "I am very happy for you both. You complete each other." Goliath decreed. "I will give my blessing for your union."
"Well, it won't be for a while, but we are just engaged." Jayden stated. "I want to wait until at least spring before it happens."
"That's fine. Whenever you decide." Goliath declared.
"Thanks. We'll work on that." Brooklyn stated. "Jayden wants something more than just a simple Mating Ceremony what you explained to us, with some human traditions in it. A real wedding."
"I would love to do your hair for the wedding." Angela declared.
"That can be arranged." Jayden smiled. "I'm sure you'll do a masterpiece with my hair. I also told Fox and Mr. Xanatos about it too."
"And?" Brook inquired.
"They support our decision. They will do whatever we want for our ceremony." Jayden declared.
"Good."
"We should celebrate. I'll cook up the best meal for us." Broadway announced happily.
"That's great, bro." Brook said.
"I'm off to do it now." He smiled and took off from the tower down to the kitchen area.
"Well, while we're waiting, we need to go check on Sienna and Kenji." Brooklyn stated. "Get them their breakfast."
"Yeah. Good idea." Goliath suggested.
The two of them jumped up and spread their wings to go glide down near the bedroom area to get there faster.
"Devoted parents, they are." Hudson declared.
"Yes, they are." Goliath agreed. "We all try to be."
"Brooklyn's kids were a real blessing to our clan." Angela said.
"Yep. They're also kids I can care for if Alex is being taken care of." Lex stated. "I love hanging out with them when I can."
"You are a great caretaker for them, Lexington." Goliath said.
"I'm going to go help Broadway." Angela said and glided down to join her mate in the kitchen.
"Gonna go check on Alex." Lex declared and went to that spot.
Hudson and Goliath then glided down to the tv area. Bronx ran down the stairs after them.
There was a wedding to be had soon!
...
When Brooklyn and Jayden reached Brook's room, the twins were awake and crying for their first meal of the night, but also longing for their parents to hold them.
"It's okay, kids, we're here now." Brooklyn spoke gently to his little ones.
The babies both responded by reaching their little arms up to be held. The couple couldn't resist that from the babies. "Aww! That is too cute!" Jayden declared as she picked up little Kenji. He reminded her of Brooklyn.
Brooklyn had a real soft spot for his little girl, Sienna. He picked her up. "Daddy's here, Sienna." He said.
"She's a daddy's girl." Jayden stated.
"Yeah, she is." Brooklyn smiled as his daughter snuggled to his chest. He then looked over at Jayden and saw his son snuggling against her. "And Kenji's a mama's boy."
"Are you saying that he doesn't favor you?" Jayden asked.
"He does sometimes, but he seems to want you more. But from what I remember the night they were born; he was on my right side, and he was pushing on a painful vessel inside me and the artificial womb I had ruptured inside me." Brook explained.
"That wasn't good." Jayden said. "How did you know it was time for them to be born?"
"Dr. Sato did an ultrasound because I was in an extreme amount of pain. It wasn't labor, just a big pain in my side and stomach."
"I don't even want to imagine what it felt like. But I do have to ask, do you want more kids in the future, with me?" Jayden asked.
Brooklyn looked at her curiously. He smiled. "Of course, I would, my Love. But let's wait a while before trying that, when these two are a little older." He chuckled.
"Yeah." She agreed. "But I also heard about a breeding season for your kind. Because I'm now infused with gargoyle DNA, do you think I'll be subject to that too, or could I possibly have babies anytime?"
"That I don't know. It's possible." Brook replied. It was a good question.
"When is the next breeding year?" she asked.
"2008. The next even 8th year in every other decade. 2018 will be the next hatching year, so say if you have an egg instead of a live baby even in a year like this, if the gargoyle DNA affects you, it will take ten years for the egg to hatch no matter when it is laid." Brooklyn explained.
"Wow. That's a long time to wait for a child." Jayden declared.
"Yeah. It's just how it's always been for us naturally. Back in Scotland, at least while waiting for the eggs to hatch, there were still hatchlings usually to take care of. My clan was originally one of the largest around before the massacre. Any gargoyle found at the castle that was above ground didn't stand a chance. Not even the hatchlings. All were destroyed. Lucky the Vikings didn't know anything about our rookery or Angela, my brothers, and I wouldn't be here now." Brook explained.
"I'm really sorry about your clan."
"Thanks."
"Do you recall any that looked like you?" she asked.
"Yeah, there was a red male among one of the older ones. He had a brown mate once, then she was killed in a battle." Brooklyn declared.
"It's possible to think he could have been your dad biologically, or a brother."
"Maybe, but we never dwelled on whose hatchling was whose. It was easier that way. Being raised by the whole clan as my parents didn't leave us to feel sad missing one parent since we had many parents to take care of us." Brook said. "This time with these two is different, as our clan is so small. Every baby helps. And maybe someday, our clan might meet with the other clans of the world, and they might bring over more eggs to expand our clan. New blood is always welcome."
"Yeah. I'm guessing that just because a couple mates and has a baby ten years later, the baby could always look different than the parents?"
"Yes. But I guess we take some features from our birth parents that we're not sure of." Brook said.
"Yeah, that's usually a thing with all creatures. We never know what our offspring will look like." Jayden stated.
"They're just beautiful gifts waited to be had and enjoy."
Jayden nodded in agreement. "Well, let's go get these little angels fed."
"Yep."
They went down to the kitchen to go get the bottles ready. Jayden got the bottles ready while Brooklyn now held Kenji along with Sienna. They were both wide awake and looking up at their father.
Jayden soon had the bottles ready, and she took back Kenji. She loved hearing the suckling on the bottle. It longed to make her want a child with Brooklyn one day. She liked kids. Maybe seeing Brooklyn being a father had also helped spur her to fall in love with him as well as him being so kind to her. She was glad that she was now officially engaged to him.
...
In a few days, Jayden flew to her parents' house, and she told them that she and Brooklyn were getting married in the spring.
"That's great, Honey." Gloria smiled and hugged her daughter.
"Don't you think you should wait a little longer than that, Jayden?" Joshua asked.
"Dad, gargoyles are far more civilized than most humans. When they make commitments, they stick to them." Jayden explained. "Brooklyn won't hurt me like other guys have done. I'm truly in love with him. I can't wait two years to be with him. At least we're waiting until the spring, a few more months."
"Alright, if that's what you want, my dear. I wish you and him much happiness." Joshua also gave her a hug.
"You weren't wearing those earrings before." Gloria pointed out as she noticed the earrings.
"They're Brooklyn's engagement present to me." Jayden replied.
"Awesome." Gloria agreed.
"He proposed on Valentine's Day. I had also gotten him a bronze motorcycle gift since he likes them. He was also willing to call it his engagement gift." Jayden told them. "Though it was meant to be his Valentine's gift."
"Brooklyn surely is special." Gloria said. "We haven't known him long, but we hope you'll be really happy, and we see that you are happy."
"Yes. I couldn't be happier. I may not have done anything with him yet, but his kids also feel like mine too." Jayden explained.
"You will be their mother after he marries you for sure." Joshua said. "Well, stepmother."
"I don't want to think of it like that even though yes, I will be that." She declared. "I can't wait."
"Do you think you have an estimate of when the wedding will be?" Joshua asked.
"I really don't know, but maybe May. I definitely want a few months to really prepare and for it to be warm outside enough for the twins to be outside. An outdoor wedding sounds like a special dream for both me and Brooklyn. The kids aren't outside much because we don't want to risk them getting sick."
"It's amazing the gargoyles go out in this cold weather and without much clothes on." Gloria pointed out.
"They have thicker skin than humans, but they still can be injured. I got to see it happen to Brooklyn once." Jayden declared. "I'm just not much for what they do but support them protecting New York folks. I would much rather be a caretaker to the kids of the castle. Someone has to."
"You were always good with children, Dear." Gloria said. "We also hope to have a grandchild someday before our passing, but wait till you're married first, before, you know."
"Yes, Mom. Brooklyn still is a virgin."
"Oh, we don't need to hear that." Joshua said. "But you'd think otherwise because of his kids."
Jayden hadn't told her parents about her one time with another man, other than that man had dumped her. She didn't want to tell them either.
"Yeah, but it was humans that forced the kids on him. He was the one who carried his kids, and he didn't have a mate before I came along. Scientists are always forcing things on innocent beings." Jayden explained. "It's amazing he still wanted them despite what happened to him."
"That can show how much more evolved he is." Gloria declared. "A woman wouldn't always keep such forced babies on her or give them up for adoption if not aborted."
"But Brooklyn is male, Mom. And gargoyles can't give their babies up so easily. They won't either. They are much more devoted parents than a lot of humans are." Jayden stated firmly.
"Yes, we know. Well, good luck with everything otherwise." Joshua gave his blessing.
"Thanks, Dad." Jayden smiled and hugged him again. She also hugged her mom too before leaving. "Love you guys."
"We love you too." Gloria said on her departure.
"I'll let you know when we decide our wedding date!" Jayden called out to them from the air as she got higher in the sky to go back to the Eyrie Building.
The parents chuckled at that.
