Chapter 70 Ultimatum
Its been a month since AMAZO returned and then left thanks to Sean talking to him.
Now things had calmed down again.
Right now though.
"WHOA!" Korra yelled seeing Batman in a new suit that was all black with a red emblem. (Batman beyond Suit)
"Nice." Batgirl said making him smirk.
"Curtesy of the Titans." Batman said.
"It looks way better than the old suit you wore and the original you wore for years." Sean said.
Thats when they got an Alert.
"And it's time to put it to the test." Batman said.
Later
Aquaman was rushing to a new Oil platform that was being overun by Magma monsters.
"The New Bermuda Platform's under attack. If it collapses, it's Deep Water Horizon all over again or maybe even worse." Aqua man said on the comms. "I thought that Oil companies were supposed to be shutting these operations down." Aquaman asked.
"The Platform is owned by the same fuckers who caused Deep Water Horizon. They won't give up and are close to bankruptcy since unlike the rest they won't compromise." Beowulf said flying towards the platform with Sage.
"We're on our way." Superman said as he, Wonder Woman and Batman in his suit flew to the rig.
Aqua man jumped onto the platform before attacking the Magma creatures before Beowulf flew in and blasted them away.
"These idiots dug right into the Earth's Magma. Never occurred to them something might actually be living down there." Aqua man said before the others arrived.
"You really expect anyone to?" Sage asked.
However as the Magma creatures surrounded them a swirl of wind tossed them around.
"Oh great." Beowulf said knowing what was coming.
"Not to worry, fellow heroes. The Ultimen are here." The one known as Wind Dragon said with his group.
"Not this again man." Sage said annoyed. These guys showed up shortly after the Sith invasion and made a small name for themselves.
Soon enough everyone was fighting these creatures before Superman got covered in Lava that hardened before Wind Dragon blew them away before his pal Juice appeared next to him.
"You know, Juice, Superman was my hero when I was a lad. It's not his fault he's getting old." Wind Dragon said.
"Old?" Superman said incredibly annoyed before breaking out.
"Old, but spry, sir. Old, but Spry." Wind Dragon said.
Wonder Woman used her Lasso on the creatures before drop kicking one as Long Shadow helped her out.
"It's, uh, really an honor to be working with you, Wonder Woman." Long Shadow said.
"Thank you, Long Shadow." Wonder Woman said kindly.
"Heads up!" Beowulf yelled blasting some off into the ocean right over them.
Suddenly downpour made a large tidal wave while Shifter turned into a sea serpent.
"Wha? Oh SHIT!" Beowulf yelled as he was hit by the wave before Shifter got him and brought him back up.
"It's ok, Kruger. It's only me, Shifter." Shifter said.
"A little warning next time?" Beowulf asked.
"We were only trying to help." Shifter said before Beowulf jumped and landed next to Batman and Aqua Man.
"Can you make Telepathic contact?" Batman asked Aqua man.
"Do these look anything like fish?" Sage asked.
"They aren't." Aqua man said.
"Don't despair, old chum." Wind Dragon said using his wind on the Magma Creatures before they turned into ice and broke apart.
"What the?" Beowulf said baffled.
"I didn't know you could do that." Long Shadow said.
"Neither did I." Wind Dragon said in equal surprise.
Later
"Finding new sources of fuel for an energy starved world is truly a worthy endeavor. But in mans quest to better himself he must respect all the worlds creatures. Including those poor beasts whose homes you've disturbed. It's imperative that we learn to share our planet if Earth is to survive." Wind Dragon said to the workers.
"He's certainly...Earnest." Aqua man said.
"Arthur, the word you're looking for is fucking corny." Sean said making Korra giggle.
"Isn't it time you accepted the League's offer?" Wonder Woman asked.
"What?" Korra asked in surprise.
"We're truly flattered but we're simply not ready yet." Wind Dragon said. "We're not ready to live up to legends." Wind Dragon said.
"Oh for fucks sakes! Thats it! We're outta here!" Sean yelled before making a portal and it made them vanish in a second.
"Was it something I said?" Wind Dragon asked.
Later
On the news was none other than Maxwell Lord taking an interview about his Ultimen.
"Mr. Lord, Your Ultimen have taken the country by storm these last few months. Why do you think that is?"
"Simple, Mike. They're heroes people can trust, relate to, depend on. They're not aloof. They don't put themselves above us mere mortals the way some heroes do." Lord said. (Jesus Christ I hate this guy here and in Supergirl)
"Are you referring to the Justice League or the Wolf Pack?" Mike asked.
"Who?" Lord said.
"Why I oughta!" Sean yelled pissed off.
"But what about those who criticize you for the millions you've made in licensing and endorsement deals?" Mike asked.
"All the money generated by the Ultimen is funneled back into the group to cover overhead. Fighting crime isn't cheep and even heroes have to eat." Lord said.
"I can't listen to any more of this." Superman said before Sean shut the TV off.
"What a bastard." Korra said.
"He's dripping more Oil than that Platform ever did." Superman said.
"And he has the Gall to take cheep shots at us." Aqua man said equally annoyed.
"Sean and I know Maxwell Lord. All he cares about is money." Batman said since both of them have had past experiences with him and his methods.
"To be fair it does take money to do what we do. Not everyone is independently wealthy." Wonder Woman said.
"Oh please. I've seen plenty of Super heroes get by just fine without money." Korra said.
"Batwoman doesn't count because of you." Wonder Woman said.
"She's got you there." Sean said making her pout.
"Lord's the definition of a walking ego. If he's involved in this it isn't about helping people." Batman said.
"More importantly theres something off about those five. Theres nothing on them. Not one amount of evidence they existed prior to them showing up." Sean said.
"You mean theres literally no information on them?" Superman asked narrowing his eyes.
"Nothing. Not even an incident report on them. It's they like they don't even actually exist. I think Lord is hiding something about them." Sean said.
"I don't know about Lord, but I think these Ultimen have potential that should be encouraged." Wonder Woman said.
"I'm not so sure about that. Long Shadow and the others are decent but Wind Dragon is so full of himself. Those corny lines. Those fucking speeches. It was like listening to an 70's and 80's cartoon." Sean said. (Thats because they are based on 80's and 70's heroes)
Meanwhile
The Ultimen at their headquarters.
"So last night, Inside celebrity did a whole segment on wind dragon And Mr. Swelled-head here didn't even mention the rest of us." Downpour said playing poke with his sister and lost. "When do I get to be team leader?"
"When your teeth sparkle like mine." Wind Dragon said showing his teeth.
"Kids, You know you two play the best at Tweens. Your faces are on the walls of every 12-year-old in America." Lord said walking in.
"I don't know about Shifter but I'm sick of being a teen idol. There's more to me than just a pretty face." Downpour said making his sister scoff.
"Did I forget to give you the royalty check for the new water-spouting downpour action figure?" Lord asked handing him a check.
"What I want to know is..." Long Shadow tried to say.
"Why can't we join the Justice League?" Everyone said.
"It's ok I used to think like that too." Wind Dragon said before Lord got a call on his phone and left.
"Yes Ma'am, but just because Wind Dragon has a new power...Yes I understand. I'll check them all out." Lord said hanging up.
Later
Beowulf yelled as he was facing off against some of Grendel's pawns before Zoom rushed in.
"Hello...Kruger." Zoom said.
"Fuck." Beowulf said before a shadow appeared above him making him look seeing a woman with long red hair white skin and blue eyes and she was huge making him jump as she tried to stomp him.
Thats when The prison wall was destroyed before the inmates rushed through a portal.
As the girl was about to attack thats when Longshadow grabbed her making her struggle.
"Whats this?" Longshadow asked seeing some metal circle on her back neck and pulled it off.
"Huh?" She asked looking around before growling. "Grodd you mother fucker!"
"Mind control. Why am I not surprised?" Beowulf asked making Longshadow chuckle.
Later
"Believe it or not, When I was born I was small, sickly. But lucky for me my folks were scientists experimenting with growth hormones. Guess the experiments were a success." Long Shadow said.
"And where are your folks now?" Sean asked leaning against a tree.
"Well, mom passed away. Dad's retired. Do you really think I could make it in the Justice League?" Long Shadow asked making him chuckle.
"Everyone deserves a chance. However your friend Wind Dragon is uh how should I put this?" Sean asked.
"Full of himself?" Long Shadow asked making him chuckle.
"Yeah thats it." Sean said before Long Shadows phone rang.
"I've gotta go." Long Shadow said.
Later
The Ultimen were in the Labs getting checked out.
"How long are they gonna keep us like this?" Shifter asked.
"Whats the matter Sis? Gotta get him and wax your mustache off?" Downpour asked making Juice laugh.
"Well, I, for one, have a date." Wind Dragon said.
Behind the glass was Hamilton and Lord.
"It's worse than we originally thought." Hamilton said showing the data. "The Ultimen's cellular matrix isn't holding. Wind Dragon, in particular is showing massive cellular atrophy. But they're all in the early stages of failure." Hamilton said.
"How long?" Lord asked.
"A few months, a few days. The progression will be painful. We should do everything we can to help them." Hamilton said.
"Thats not our priority."
They looked and saw Hayley walk in.
"But Colonel Hayley, I really think that we..." Lord tried to say.
"Since when did your opinion count, Lord? How long till we get the second group up and running?" Hayley asked.
"Five days if we push ourselves." Hamilton said.
"Make it three." Hayley said.
"And the Ultimen?" Hamilton asked.
"They're expendable." Hayley said.
Unknown to them was that Long Shadow could hear them and narrowed his eyes.
Later
The Ultimen were watching TV in some room before Juice fried the cameras and they busted out.
Rushing past the guards they ran looking for something.
"What are we looking for?" Shifter asked.
"We'll know when we find it." Long Shadow said kicking down a door that had some cages before they walked past them only for some mutated dog to start barking at them.
"AHHH!" Shifter screamed in fright.
"Over there." Long Shadow said making them look seeing five tubes and in them were identical duplicates of themselves.
Later
Hayley, Lord and Hamilton were in the lab with the clones.
"The clones are unharmed." Hamilton said.
"Security can't find a trace of our Ultimen." Hayley said before turning to Lord. "But I want you to find them Lord."
"You really think they'll trust me? They won't believe a word we say now." Lord said.
"Bring them back or I'll have Norris call in a squad to put them down. I want this laboratory dismantled and relocated." Hayley said.
Meanwhile
The woman that Grodd had under mind Control was named Giganta and was given whatever information she could but it wasn't much.
"At least we got something out of it." Eiling said.
"A thousand high level criminals got loose. Thats not exactly a win lose situation Wade." Sean said.
"Maybe not. But it's not like Grendel can make them all into enhanced people like those in the Wolf Pack and the League." Eiling said.
"Don't be so sure." Sean said.
"So whats going on?" Eiling asked.
"Theres something real strange about those five they..." Sean said before they got an alert showing them attacking a building.
"What the hell?" Eiling asked as Sean rushed out.
Meanwhile
Long Shadow was carrying the people down to safety.
"Need a hand?" Sage asked flying to him with Beowulf, Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and Aquaman who Batman carried.
"What the hell is going on?" Beowulf asked.
"I'll explain later." Long Shadow said
Inside the Ultimen tore up the halls and offices.
"Whats the point of this? We'll never find Cadmus or a cure." Shifter said.
"Then what? We just die and let them replace us? No one ever knows we were here? That we mattered?" Wind Dragon asked.
"I say we just bring the whole building down on top of us." Downpour said.
"Don't give up hope yet, Downpour. We've got friends in high places." Long Shadow said with the others behind him.
"You idiot, do you really think that they can help us?" Shifter asked.
"Look whatever is going on we'll do everything in our power to..." Beowulf tried to say
"Yes, power. That's what it always comes down to, doesn't it? And that's the only way we'll be remembered." Wind Dragon said as his powers started acting up. "If we're the ones who take down the Justice League the world will never forget us." Wind Dragon said getting the others to agree.
"Listen to yourselves. You're not making any sense. You're getting sicker." Batman said.
"Translation, they're afraid to face us." Wind Dragon said.
"Enough of the nonsense." Beowulf said blasting them back before they scattered. "Find them." Beowulf said going after Wind Dragon as he had his wrist blades out.
Wind Dragon ran as he tried to run away from the League knowing he was at a disadvantage.
That proved to be a mistake as Beowulf appeared before stabbing him in the side making him yell before Beowulf pulled out his maul and slashed his chest.
"You need to calm down." Beowulf
"And you need to back off!" Wind Dragon said blowing him away into a wall before Beowulf blasted him but he dodged.
Superman then rushed in trying to stop him but got caught in his wind.
"You don't have to do this!" Superman yelled.
"It's all I know! It is what I was created to do!" Wind Dragon yelled.
"You're confused, Dragon. The Cellular Degeneration." Superman tried to say.
"No more words! I'll suck the wind right out of you!" Wind Dragon said sucking the air out of him making Superman gasp for air.
Beowulf stabbed him in the chest making him yell as he fell to his knees before Beowulf shot him with a stun dart knocking him out.
"I'm surprised you didn't kill him." Sage said.
"Tempting but no." Beowulf
Later
The Ultimen were cuffed and ready to be taken away.
"Project Cadmus? Thats all you know?" Sean asked.
"Everything else is an implanted memory." Long Shadow said.
Suddenly however army trucks started to arrive before armed men came out along with Hayley and Lord.
"The Ultimen belong to us." Hayley said.
"Belong?" Wonder Woman said narrowing her eyes on her.
"Hayley. I should have known." Sean said glaring at her.
"Kruger...Hows your murdering mother." Hayley said before he had his glaive at her throat making her frown.
"Back...Off." Sean said.
"We will leave when they come with us. Their our property." Hayley said before his eyes glowed.
"Leave...Now." Sean said making her smirk as she pulled out a detonator and pushed it.
Thats when the Ultimen started screaming holding their heads before.
BOOM!
The League gasped seeing their heads explode covering them in blood.
"YOU MURDERING BITCH!" Sean yelled aiming at her but she was gone along with Lord making him snarl.
"Who the hell was that?" Superman asked.
"Colonel Hayley." Sean said.
Later
"Who's Colonel Hayley?" Diggle asked.
"You could say she's an equally vicious version of me." Amanda said.
"Only she holds some grudge against us." Sean said.
"Why?" Oliver asked.
"She claims I'm responsible for her daughter's death who died in the field years ago. But I wasn't. I had nothing to do with her death. It didn't involve ARGUS or anything else associated with me." Amanda said.
"So why does she think it does?" Wonder Woman asked.
"I have no idea. But she's gone AWOL. She's not responding to my commands or anything to my authority. It's clear she intends to take over." Amanda said.
"What and have the country go through a Civil war?" Red Hood asked.
"If she had her way it might just come to that." Amanda said.
"Our objective is clear. Find her and put her down. Along with anyone under her command." Sean said.
"She could be working for Grendel." Superman said.
"No. This has nothing to do with him. This is about my family and that alone. And she'll do anything to get what she wants." Amanda said.
"And what do you think she wants?" Lantern asked.
"All of us dead along with my kids just to make her feel better." Sean said.
"Thats not gonna happen." Batman said.
"Let's hope not." Sean said.
Authors Note: Seems Hayley is more vicious than Amanda in this story. Then again she did try to blackmail super girl to do everything she said even after she saved her life.
