A few days later,
Katy needs to take Nana Lois to the Dr. and Eddie has an appointment with his manager from work, he asks Loren to stay with Derek. It should only take an hour or so. Loren tells him to go and not to worry, she will have her lunch while she sits with Derek.
The Doctor walks in. "Is the Duran family here?"
"They are out on errands; they will be back later this afternoon." Loren responds.
"You're the fiancé? Miss Tate?" He questions.
Loren sighs. "Yes."
"The Duran's have allowed me to share with you too, Derek is doing better, we did a brain scan yesterday and the swelling is coming down rapidly, that's a great sign because it means he is slowing healing and we can consider removing the ventilator very soon."
"Does that mean he will awaken soon?" Loren wonders.
"Don't forget he was placed in a medical induced coma, we have reduced the amount of medication, and he will start to gradually regain consciousness and become more aware of his surroundings." The Dr. adds.
Loren sighs. "Will he remember anything from his past?"
"The deterioration of mental faculties might affect their understanding of their surroundings and situations, he may be able to recall certain memories that can last a few minutes to a couple of weeks. He may come out of the coma remembering what he did before this happened. We will have to wait Miss. Tate. I will see the Duran family and explain everything to them."
"Thank you Dr. for sharing." Loren sighs, something she's been doing a lot of.
The Dr. steps out of the room, Loren sits and looks at Derek. "What can I do after you wake up and you remember everything? What will I tell your family?"
Later that evening, Loren is getting ready to leave work, Eddie stops by.
"Are you ready to go home?" He asks.
Loren smiles. "I am; it was a long day."
"We just spoke to the Dr. he said he shared with you, seems Derek will be waking up soon, are you excited?"
"I hope he is able to remember his life before the accident."
"We hope he can remember everything." He pauses and looks at Loren. "He has to remember you Loren, who could forget someone as amazing as you."
Loren looks at him, their eyes lock. "Thanks Eddie, you're always so sweet."
They approach Loren's car. "How about dinner?"
"What's on the menu?" Eddie questions.
"I made some potato salad this morning before work, I asked Mel to make a salad, I have steak defrosting in the fridge."
"Sounds great, I'll stop by and get some red wine." Eddie adds.
Loren gets into her car. "See you at 6!"
Loren drives home, she walks into her home and she finds Mel preparing the salad.
"Dinner is almost ready." Mel says.
"Did you turn the grill on?" Loren asks.
"Yes, hurry, you have to season the steaks."
"We have to wait for Eddie." Loren shares.
"You invited him? Are you okay with all of this?"
"I have to be okay, seems Derek will be waking up soon, I don't want to go into panic mode if he does, I don't know how much he will remember." Loren sighs.
"I know I got you into this mess, maybe you should be honest with Eddie and tell him the truth, tell him this was my fault." Mel adds.
"I want to tell him everything, especially how I feel about him, I'm in love with him Mel."
"You know I am never wrong; I have a feeling all of this will work out for the two of you."
"Thanks Mel, I hope you're right." Loren adds.
Within the hour Eddie arrives, Mel excuses herself and takes dinner to her room, Eddie and Loren enjoy a delicious steak dinner with a glass of red wine.
"This was the best steak I've ever had." Eddie says with a smile.
Loren blushes. "I don't believe you, I am sure your mom and nana can cook a great steak."
"Not as good as this one, thanks Loren, I seem to be gaining weight since we met."
"I will tell my mom you loved them." Loren adds.
Eddie furrows his eyes. "Your mom?"
"She travels with her husband all over the country, she sent these amazing steaks from Texas."
"Does she ever stop by to see you?" Eddie wonders.
"No, my step-father plays in a band and they are requested everywhere, I'm happy for my mom, she went through so much after my father left, she deserves to be happy, I'm old enough to be okay, she raised me on her own with two jobs and thanks to her I'm a pharmacist." Loren sighs.
"Wow, no wonder you are so amazing." Eddie says while making eye contact with Loren.
"Thanks Eddie, you are always so sweet." Loren seems to blush more when Eddie is around.
"Do you have plans to travel?" Eddie questions.
"Not really, I want to travel one day, fly to Italy and Paris, I need a stamp on my passport."
"You have a passport with no stamps on it, I've been to Spain, Portugal."
Loren stops him. "Are you showing off? I will definitely catch up to you one day and add many stamps on my password."
Eddie looks at his watch. "Listen, I have to go, I want to stop and check on Derek before I head home, thanks again for dinner, it was delicious."
Loren walks towards the door to let Eddie out. "Thank you for keeping me company, seems Mel had something to do, if it wasn't for you I would have eaten all alone.
"You should never eat alone Loren." Eddie stops by the door and looks at Loren, their eyes meet, he can feel his heart racing, this beautiful brunette is always on his mind. He takes a deep breath and holds Loren's face with his hand, he hopes Loren can't hear his heart beating nonstop, she places her hand over his and smiles.
Eddie won't stop, it's now or never, he leans into Loren placing a soft kiss on her lips, Loren doesn't move, she leans closer to him and kisses him back.
Eddie's phone suddenly rings, he pulls away to answer the call, Loren sighs wondering what just happened.
"Hello, hey mom, yes, I'm on my way to the hospital, really, okay see you soon."
He hits the end button and looks at Loren. "Is everything okay?" She wonders.
Eddie sighs heavily. "Yeah, my mom said Derek is waking up."
Loren freezes where she stands, cold chill envelopes her whole body.
