The Daily Lives of The Owl Familia: P2:
Skara's First Day: Part 3
Summary: Skara and her mom have a small dinner with old friends, but will things turn out as they hope?
"Skara," Nora said gently, "quit squirming. I need to clean your face before the Trisights get here."
Currently, the older bard witch was trying to clean her daughter's face after she got something on her as they were finishing dinner. And true to her current age, Skara was being a bit fussy.
Anytime Nora went to wipe her daughter's face, Skara would try to bat her mom's hands away. Nora found the entire thing cute and giggled a little as she finally managed to clean her daughter's face.
Nora smiled as she looked her daughter over one last time just as she heard the doorbell. She picked up Skara and went to answer the front door.
"Trica, Sabria! I'm so glad you could make it," Nora greeted her friends and then looked at Boscha with a warm smile. "And how have you been, Boscha?"
The three-eyed witch just grunted as the Trisights walked into the house. Boscha's mothers saw this, and Trica sent a glare her daughter's way.
"...I'm fine," Boscha replied bluntly.
Skara suddenly began to squirm in her mother's arms, and Nora knew what that meant. She set the "knocked-down" bard witch down, and Skara immediately ran over to her semi-friend. Skara tugged on Boscha's pants leg to get her attention.
Boscha looked down at her sort of friend as Skara held out her arms. The potion witch got what the "knocked-down" witch wanted and wasn't going to do it. She was about to go to the dining room but caught the puppy-dog eyes her "friend" was giving her.
Boscha found the eyes too cute to resist, even if she would deny it if asked. So before she knew what she was doing, she picked up Skara.
Boscha didn't need to look at the trio of parents to know they were smiling as she made her way to the dining room. She put Skara into a random chair and then took the one opposite of the "knocked-down" witch.
But Skara wasn't done with Boscha just yet; she jumped out of her chair and ran over to the three-eyed witch. Boscha looked at her "friend" with mild confusion as Skara held out her arms again.
"She wants to sit on your lap," Nora explained, "And like anyone her current age, she wouldn't take no for an answer."
Boscha wanted to say no, but the puppy-dog eyes quickly wore her down. So, she reluctantly picked Skara up and sat on her lap.
Boscha made sure the "knocked-down" witch was at least comfortable in her lap as Nora brought out dinner. The adults were soon making small talk while the kids ate in silence.
Boscha was a little surprised; despite her current age, Skara wasn't a messy eater. She did, however, have this quirk. She would take a few bites and then hum a tone.
The entire thing was cute, and Boscha could admit that, but only to herself.
Soon, Boscha heard the conversation turn to the topic she was dreading the most.
"So, Sabria asked curiously, "As a potion witch, I'm dying to know, how does it feel having a rejuvenated kid?"
Nora took a moment to think over her answer. She looked at her daughter and smiled warmly.
"It's a little unusual, but in a good way," Nora explained, looking at her friends. "It's like looking at an old photo album and-"
Nora suddenly began coaching violently, and the two older potion witches saw some flem in the corner of Nora's mouth.
"MOMMY!" Skara screeched.
The "knocked-down" witch jumped from her seat and ran to her mother's side as the older Trisights did the same. Boscha watched her mothers' friend with barely hidden shock as the older bard's couching began to settle.
Nora's couch had settled enough that she was able to take a small potion vial from her pocket and downed its content in one go. She took several deep breaths and then exhaled one last large one before looking at others.
"Mommy, otay?" Skara asked worryingly.
Nora looked at her daughter, offered her a weak smile, and patted Skara's head affectionately. She looked back at her friends as one of them spoke.
"Are your fits always that bad?" Sabria asked uneasily.
Nora tried to continue to smile, but it was a weak one. "They don't come as often as they used to, and thanks to the elixir you two made, it's much more bearable. Now, shall we get back to dinner?"
The older Trisights looked at each other, and a silent message was sent between the two. They knew their friend was in pain, but if she didn't feel like talking about more, that was her decision. So, they awkwardly returned to their seats and looked at their meals.
Skara didn't return to Boscha's lap, however. Instead, she lightly patted her mother's thigh. Nora understood immediately and pushed her seat back. She then picked up Skara and put her on her lap.
Wordlessly, Boscha pushed Skara's plate over to her, and the group began to eat in an awkward, tense silence. Skara saw how everyone was and decided to cheer everyone up with what she did best…sing.
Everyone looked at the "knocked-down" bard as she began to sing. The pitch and tone were off, but the cuteness of it all had the effect Skara wanted; the tension and awkwardness drained from everyone.
It wasn't long before everyone was back to enjoying each other company. Even Boscha got in on the conversation, having become interested in the rejuvenation process as well.

Well, it's nice to get back to this series again. And now we're finished with Skara's story, and we're moving on to some Hunter and Darius moments, and after that, the moment you've all been waiting for…the story of how the demon and human realm began interacting.
