The Daily Lives of The Owl Familia: P2:
The Reason

Summary: While on a family outing, Camila asked the reason why they needed to shrink Roca.

Timeline: Four months and a week has passed since the day of Unity.

"I have been meaning to ask," Camila said, watching as her daughter picked up the now shrunken stonesleeper. "Why do you shrink Roca when we go out?"

Though she didn't outright say it, Camila was looking at her daughter when she spoke. Even Boscha was looking at Luz.

The human witch gave her mother and "cousin" a look that said it wasn't her fault while Amity grimaced as she gingerly held her bad wrist.

"For once, Camila," Lilith said gently, "None of our children are at fault for the reason we need to alter Roca's size."

Camila frowned as she looked at the sleeper in her daughter's arms and back at the other mothers. Lilith sighed and began walking to the marketplace.

"It happened during the first weekend the children were rejuvenated."

"I demand to know what the meaning of this is?" Zoe Babblerstone screamed as she stormed into the slaygrounds.

Lilith felt Amity flinched in her arms and comfortably rubbed her back. The historian scowled as she watched the actress storm up to Steve. The scout kept himself composed as he addressed the enraged gorgon.

"Ma'am, we may be in an open area, but please keep your voice reasonable."

Steve didn't flinch when the gorgon glared at him and poked him in the chest.

"I most certainly would not," Zoe retorted sharply. "I want to know why my precious daughter is being treated like a common thug."

Steve sighed and took off his hood and helmet. He looked the actress firmly in the eyes.

"Ma'am, your daughter attacked a group of children unprovoked," the loveable scout explained calmly. "As such, I'm writing up an incident report and would like your cooperation afterward."

Zoe scoffed at this and crossed her arms as she looked at the scout defiantly.

"I highly doubt that's the case," the actress retorted. "My Chloe was no doubt the victim in this matter. And if you're not going to take action against the real criminals, then I will!"

Zoe tried to walk past Steve. The loveable scout quickly blocked the actress's path and gave her an authoritative glare.

"Miss," Steve said firmly, "Not only am I an Emperor's Coven scout, but I also have another boss who wouldn't like it if you mess with his family. I suggest you rethink your actions."

Zoe just glared at the scout and made a spell circle, summoning a large Venus flytrap. The plant snapped its jaw aggressively. Steve didn't back down and made a spell circle as he readied himself for the fight.

Suddenly, Luz ran up to the actress, glaring cutely at her. "No bully, Ste-Ste!" she proclaimed and gave Zoe a Shin buster.

The actress yelped but didn't grab her leg like most do when they get a Clawthorne shin buster. Instead, she glared daggers at the "knocked-down" human and was about to order her plant to attack.

Suddenly, something came up from behind her, and she turned around in time to see Roca snap its jaw down on her plant. Zoe became afraid as she watched the sleeper thrash its head about and tear her plant to pieces.

Once Roca was done with the plant, it snarled at the actress. Zoe screamed as the sleeper lunged for her. She darted to her right and fled the scene with Roca giving chase.

"...Roca chased that woman a city block while causing minor damage," Lilith finished and sighed.

Camila frowned as she placed a few things into a bag and looked at her daughter. She smiled slightly when she saw the kids just talking and laughing. She sighed when she saw the stonesleeper in Luz's arm napping and looked back at Lilith.

"And I supposed that woman just a slap on the wrist?" the human asked in disdain.

"Unfortunately," Lilith confirmed. "After Roca was subdued, some choices were given to us. Either keep Roca away from the city or alter his size unless we need him for tasks."

Camila sighed and shook her head at the thought of that woman. It wasn't a surprise learning that the disgraced actress thought she could get away with so much because she had the apparent favor of the Emperor.

The human mother could take some comfort that the woman doesn't hold much power in this new, covenless age.

"...And remember, everyone, if asked, we're merely a support group," Zoe said commandingly. "But, we know the truth and wouldn't stop until we have purged the infection from our land, for we are the League of Isles-Savior!"

Chloe frowned as the group her mother gathered shouted their battle cry and leaned close to her father.

"Are you ever going to tell her she's using that wrong?"

Shin sighed tiredly and replied, "When your mother's let this, she could move a titan. So I'm not telling her that Isles starts with an I, not an L."

And with this, we learn why Roca shrinks every time the Familia goes to town. Fun fact! This story is actually an extension of the ending that was meant for the "Prelude to the Search" story way back in part 1 of Daily Lives.
I also wondered if anyone ever saw how I messed with the acronym with the Babblerstone group. Oh well, that was in the past.
