The Daily Lives of The Owl Familia: P2:
Amity's Family: Part 1

Summary: With Raine by her side, Amity is about to confront a part of her past she is not sure she is ready for.

Amity was nervous; strike that, she was terrified. She was standing in front of the Golddagger's manor, studying it.

The manor was big, but it was nowhere near the size of Blight Manor. It was closer to Boscha's house size. Yet, there was something there, a warm feeling Amity couldn't deny.

This feeling reminded Amity of the warmth she felt when she first moved into the Owl House.

She was brought out of her thoughts when she felt a hand placed on her shoulder. She looked into the warm, smiling face of her O'pa.

"Ready?" Raine asked softly.

Amity sighed and looked back at the manor. Despite what Raine told her an hour again, some part of her couldn't help but worry. What if this family was just like her birth mother?

After all, she had learned that no one starts like Odalia did; they turn into that person after a lifetime of experience. So what if the Golddaggers were just like Odalia?

Amity shook her head to clear it and steeled her nerves. She then rings the doorbell before she loses her nerves again.

It wasn't long before she heard footsteps, and Amity half-expected a butler to answer the door. She was surprised at who answered.

"Mom!?" she squeaked.

The woman, who was a few years younger than Odalia, smiled a warm smile.

"I get that a lot," the witch corrected, a hint of humor in her voice. "I'm Dalia, Odalia's younger sister. And you're Amity, right?"

Suddenly, Amity became faltered. Something about this witch made her think of one of her mother figures.

"Y-Yes," she replied bashfully, "I'm Amity. Amity Blight-Clawthorne."

Dalia continued to smile, but Raine did notice that the warmth faded as she looked at them.

"And you're Raine Whispers," Dalia said kindly, "It's nice to finally meet you?"

Raine was off guard by this, and they blinked. Dalia picked up on the bard's surprise and clarified.

"I want to St. Epiderm as well. Since I was younger, I didn't have the same classes as you, but you were kinda the talk of the school," Dalia looked away as a faint blush spread. That look disappeared as she seemed to realize something. "But where are my manners? Come in before you catch a mold."

Dalia stepped aside and allowed the two Owl Familia members into her home. Dalia showed them where to leave their cold-weather attire and led them to the main hall.

Amity couldn't help but marvel as she looked about her birth mother's family's home. Unlike Blight Manor, which showcase something about Odalia, Gloddagger's Manor has more of a family vibe. She could see something belonging to a different member of the family littering the halls, and it caused a ping of repressed jealousy to go through her.

She quickly pushed that feeling down.

Soon, the three entered the living room, and Amity gasped as she saw the family picture of the Golddaggers. She quickly zeroed in on the elder of the family, no doubt her grandmother, and couldn't help but notice she had the same facial features as her daughter.

Amity studied the picture; her grandparents were behind their two daughters, and Amity saw her grandmother holding a staff in her right hand.

Dalia saw Amity staring and looked at the picture. She sighed as she looked at her niece.

"You probably guessed, but that woman is my mother, Amilia Golddagger…Your grandmother," Dalia said sadly.

Amity looked at her aunt and saw the sadness in her eyes. She looked back at the picture and picked out her birth mother in it. She stared at it scornfully for a second. She then sighed and looked at Dalia again. The witch got the message and showed the door to the sitting area.

Once the three were comfortable, Dalia's easygoing demeanor changed to a more serious one. "Not that I'm not happy to meet you, but I got a feeling you're not here for a social visit."

Amity sighed and nodded. She opened her mouth to say something, but suddenly, she couldn't get the words she wanted out. When she tried to say something, her throat kept tightening to the point she couldn't say anything.

Raine saw this and looked at the plant witch.

"What do you know about Odalia's current state?" the bard inquired calmly.

Dalia looked at them for a second and sighed. She drew a spell circle and took out a file.

"More than I like to admit," Dalia said sadly, holding up the file. "After Odalia's arrest, Head Witch Darius visited me personally and handed me this file. He said that it was a casefile Lilith Clawthorne was building against Odalia."

"Mom?" Amity squeaked.

Dalia looked at her niece with a smile and nodded. Raine noticed a hint of sorrow in the witch's smile but said nothing about it.

"Yes. Apparently, Miss Clawthorne was trying to build a case against Odalia, not she could continue after Belos made the Blight family a top priority," she explained, and then bitterness entered into her voice. "The councilman wanted my input on the matter, so he gave this copy to look at."

Disgust overtook Dalia's face as she opened the file and skimmed through it. Amity saw her aunt's disgust grow as she read through the file. She let out an angry growl, closed the file, and dropped it onto a coffee table in front of her.

"What angers me the most is that she was underfeeding you at one point," Dalia angrily said. "I don't do abomination magic, but I had a partner who did. They suffered a mild case of Abomination Rejection right in front of me."

Amity grimaced as she remembered the time she nearly suffered from that ailment.

She took a few calming breaths, readying herself to ask the question she wanted to ask since she arrived.

"What was she like growing up? Odalia."

Dalia looked at her niece and sighed tiredly. She looked at the family picture and bitterly frowned as she looked at the image of her sister. She looked back at her guests, and both saw the regret in her eyes.

"I wish I could tell you something you want to hear," Dalia said sorrowly. "But I even I don't know what happened. Growing up, Odalia was always a little conceited. But what kid isn't?"

The plant witch let out a hollow laugh as a bitter smile crossed her lips. She calmed down a second later, but the bitterness didn't leave her.

"But everything changed after she spent a summer working with my aunts in Bonesborough. She came as a nearly different person. Suddenly, she was constantly saying that she knew what was best for the family, throwing out ideas on how to improve our family in ways we could never dream of."

Dalia sighed and looked at her family picture once. A sad smile crossed her lips as she stared longingly at her mother's face.

"Mom and Odalia began fighting a lot. It almost became a daily ritual," The plant witch said, looking back at her guests. "But things came to a head when Odalia learned that mom passed up a chance to became the plant Coven's head."

Dalia shook her head, recalling all the shouting she heard, mainly from her sister directed at her mother.

"After that, Odalia said she didn't want anything to do with a "pathetic mother that wasted her potential" and moved in with our aunts at Bonesborough. She even started studying in the Oracle track at Hexside to distance herself from us. We didn't know she was engaged to Alador Blight until we read about the announcement in the papers."

"She didn't even invite you to her wedding?" Raine asked, angry that Odalia didn't invite her own family to her wedding.

"No," Dalia replied and sighed, a sad frown forming. "She didn't even want us to interact with her children. That's all my mom thought about while on her deathbed."

Amity gasped as her eyes widened. She slowly looked at her grandmother's image. She could feel her anger towards her ex-mother surfaced as she realized how petty Odalia was.

She felt her anger suddenly crumple away and her stomach drop as she noticed something she had missed before.

Amilia Golddagger was right-handed.

Again, I like to think I made a pretty nasty version of Odalia, but nothing can still top the petty little Wessel we see in the actual show. Also, I wonder if anyone remembered the file Lilith said she was making in the "Lilith's Remembers" side content in the second story?"
