Jumping Through Time
Chapter 5
It was not only difficult to ignore, but it was also unmistakable. An insufferable child, of all people, would get what many wish they had.
-... and that's how the great Lambo defeated the terrible dragon that threatened the kingdom. - The tale ended, a dragón toy being hit by a knight toy. - The hero kept all the candy the dragon stole. - The kind man laughed at this, but he didn't know why.
It was candy, why wouldn't he want them? He defeated the dragon who stole candy, so the candy was his now!
- He really spoils that child… - Someone whined softly, and he could only blink at the book that ended up hitting the forehead of this person.
- Oooppps, my mistake~ - He looked at the kind man with doubt, a lot of doubt. That didn't seem like a mistake. - Don't worry about anything. - His hair was tousled and he was given a smile that could melt the entire world on its own. - What will the great Lambo-sama do now? He already defeated a mighty dragon! - And he had a lot of candy, it was the best treasure there could be. - What would Lambo-sama want this time? - These things made him recall his nanny, only his nanny wasn't as energetic as the kind man.
What did Lambo-sama want? That was easy.
- Lambo? – The kind man tilted his head, lowering his head a little to see better or perhaps to hear better.
He didn't think twice and took the opportunity to jump and grab the kind man wherever he could, even thought the idea was the kind man's face, and proclaim:
- Lambo-sama wants you! - And he wouldn't take a no as an answer! - Only for Lambo-sama! No one else can have you, only Lambo-sama!
- Hahahaha, that's a bit-
- Stupid kid-
- Sure. – At this simple word, there were two outraged claims:
- Tenth! – It was like the man had fallen from the stairs. He knew because it had already happened.
- And what about us!
He stuck his tongue out at them in triumph, lighting up the fire in those pair of eyes. He was Lambo-sama, of course he-
- Of course you have me. - He got a kiss on his forehead before being left on the floor again, despite his iron grab on that chocolate brown hair. - But don't you think it would be very lonely that way? Just the two of us?
- Lambo-sama doesn't need anyone. - Not anymore. - Isn't it enough with just me? What must Lambo-sama do to get all your attention? - he didn't want these other people that always seemed to be around the kind man.
He didn't like to share, and this was the kindest person he had ever met. Him and his nanny, no one else.
- Would you like to hear a story? - He blinked at that, mostly thanks to the soft, and strangely light, voice. Lambo didn't notice the warning glance of the kind man he gave the other two men, their eyes almost in fire from rage. - Long, long ago the Sky came down, but he didn't come alone.
- Why? - Why would the Sky do something like that? - Isn't he happy up there? - Why would he like to go down here?
- No one knows for sure. - Ah? - It is said that it was because he felt lonely always being in the same place, looking down and watching the animals, the people, come and go, creating families, homes… - A finger to the chin and a slight laugh, joined with bright eyes. - For a while nothing happened, except that the Sky disappeared among the humans. Later the Sky's absence started being noticed. It made the humans start wondering why the Sky wasn't as lively as it used to be and why the weather was so unpredictable...
- The weather? -Shouldn't it be only the clouds or something like that?
- Yes, the weather. - The kind man nodded, lowering his hands for a bit before gesturing again while telling the story. - Storms, heavy rain, thunder and lightning in broad daylight even without rain or storms. Inclement sun, or absence of it. Whimsical clouds, without staying in the same place for more than a few hours. Mirages and mists in strange circumstances, in different areas ... - The smile fell a bit and the kind man said: - "The Sky is angry", many said. Some believed that they had angered some kind of deity. The truth was that Sky wasn't there, and his friends were worried and angry because they couldn't find him. He never said he would get down with us, so they didn't know.
- So… - It was weird to think about, but: - They missed him? - It didn't make much sense: - Sky wasn't alone?
- Sky isn't truly alone. - Really? - There was always someone. The most known ones are Sun and Cloud. The problem is that Sun is so far away, too high up, to talk with him. Cloud is always on his own, calm, silent. Thunder and Lightning appear rarely and when they do Storm is with them. They love to sleep and have bad tempers. Rain appears here and there, to work, not to char. And Mist isn't common to be seen, too close to land for Sky to talk with him. Anyway, there was not much to talk about between them. It has always been the same for years and years.
- Then why did it affect them? If everyone was on their own… - They shouldn't have noticed to begin with.
- Ah! The great question! - A big smile appeared and he was pinched playfully on the cheek. - Sky had a very important job, even if it didn't look like it. He was the one that kept order, so to speak. If Sun was too harsh, Sky would call him on it or he would call Rain to make things better. If Storm made a lot of mess, Sky would calm him down with a few words, he would ask Cloud to move and he would call Sun over. And so on. - For a bit, those warm eyes looked at him. There was something odd on them, but he didn't know what. - Without Sky, there was no order. There was no one to calm anyone down, nor anyone to say "stop" or "go". It was a bad situation. - The kind man
– Sin el cielo, no había una coordinación, no había nadie que calmara las cosas, ni que diera un "alto" o un "adelante". Era una situación mala. – The kind man summed up with that same weird emotion in his eyes.
- Did they come down to look for him? - It was the logical thing to do, right?
- No, no in the beginning. They didn't know Sky came down to begin with. - That odd emotion in his eyes vanished, finally. It was only warm there now. - Mist, the closest one to land, was the first one to feel Sky close by while he was randomly moving around earth. Mist was sure where, but he had an idea. He asked around, searched carefully, and when he was sure Sky was down there, he told the others. - Mist was smart. - He said: "I will go down, I will find him ans I will bring him back".
- Did he do it? What did the others say? - He didn't think that Sky would go up so easily.
- They weren't happy, but Mist didn't pay them any mind and went there anyway. - Mischievously: - He didn't come back, so Storm and Rain chose to follow and find both. So, Mist, Storm and Rain stopped appearing. Only harsh sun, tricky clouds and thunder and lighting could be seen for a long while till there was nothing, only darkness. - Before he could ask why only darkness because he couldn't dream something like that, the kind man asked him: - Do you want to know why? Finding Sky wasn't easy, and less so making him want to go back home.
- Didn't he want to go home? - Why not? - Even when all his friends were coming for him?
- Well, the thing is… - The smile became one mischievous, surprisingly for him. - Sky found something he really liked, something that made him happy between us. He didn't want to go back, to the same he always did, to just be up and wait and watch. He didn't want to feel lonely again while his friends went back to what they did.
- And what made him happy? Doesn't he have everything up there? - Everyone wanted to be up there, why didn't Sky?
- Sharing with us made him happy. - Ah? - Being with us. Playing, talking, sharing, and being in a family made him happy. He was never alone, he got along well with everybody. They treated him like he was one of us. They didn't know he was Sky, if you are wondering. Sky had a human form, like you or me, so they didn't know.
- Sky could do that? - The kind man nodded with energy.
- Of course he did. He became one of the most friendly and kind people there was. Sky has always been the kindest of the ones up there. He got along with everybody, it was part of his charm. - Two men shuttered and their bad temper almost disappeared when the kind man asked them: - Isn't that right guys?
- How do they know? - They nodded fast, no doubt in their minds. Though, one of them wasn't happy to admit it.
- When we get to the end of this tale, you will know. - Not waiting for an answer: - Anyway, Mist, Storm, and Rain didn't have it easy to find him. They had to take human form too and ask and ask around...
- But did they find him?
- Cloud found him first, when he got down and took human form. The last one to come and the first to find him, even though he didn't end up finding him… - Like it wasn't anyone's problem: - You see, Cloud has always been a solitary person, one with a bad temper too. He didn't go along with anyone, and when he gets mad, which is surprisingly easy, he becomes violent. He was fast in making a mess, and that made Sky appear and remind him he shouldn't be doing what he was doing. - The smile fell, showing a sad face. - At this point, because a fight between Sky and one of his friends is unmistakable, the others knew what happened. Not matter how much they tried, how much they begged, Sky didn't want to go home and he tried his best to avoid them. This, of course, only made them more jealous, started fights, and the situation get worse and worse.
- But he had to go back, didn't he? - He pointed at the window. Behind it was a bright blue sky. - Sky is there, he doesn't look bad.
- Yeah, he had to. Not because he wanted to, really. - A little laugh, not very happy. - The begging of the humans, who weren't tricked anymore and couldn't understand how such a friendly person like Sky was being so problematic with his own family, was what made him go back home. Not the first, or the second time. In truth, it was just before Moon, Star, Snow, and Northern Lights came down too for him.
- But if he didn't want to go back, why did he? - Also: - Didn't humans love him?
- Everybody loved Sky, no one wanted him to go anywhere. But Sky belongs up there. He has tasks, responsibilities, a very important job, and a family there. Down here he can't do much, he can't take care of anyone, or protect them. Without him, everyone else up there loses their orden and does what they please, causing natural disasters like merciless storms and rain that doesn't stop. - He blinked several times at what followed: - Sky has a special charm. Once you look at him you can't stop, can you?
Well, now the kind man said it...
- The most precious moment is seeing him at dusk and dawn, especially after storms and rain because rainbows appear. Do you know why? Because the colors that Sky shows then are from happiness, that's why those moments are so beautiful. - He didn't know that!
- I didn't know Sky smiled. - There was an odd cough, but he didn't pay it any mind. His eyes were on the window, or in what was behind it to be honest.
- So, after that day Sun, Mist, Cloud, Rain, Storm, Thunder and Lightning, Moon, Star, Snow, Northern Lights tried their best to not leave Sky alone for long. Even the animals that can fly try to fly as high as they can so Sky doesn't feel alone.
- Did he come down sometime later? - If he was to-
- No one knows. - The kind man wasn't looking at him, smiling a bit while watching the clouds and the sun, the sky outside. - Some people believe he does, that he comes every now and then. Because sometimes there are odd people, stranger people, that acted similar to what the others up there did, searching for something or maybe someone, before vanishing like they were never here to begin with. - He heard another odd cough somewhere far away. Weird. - Anyway, it is only a story. Do I tell you a secret?
- A secret? - There was one? Maybe the story is real?
- Anywhere the Sky goes, he is never alone. - A smile was growing on his face, still not looking at him, and the kind man added: - Not matter how much you want the Sky for yourself, it is impossible because Sky is a being too kind, too friendly, and anywhere he goes he makes friends. Even if he tells you he only will be yours, he can't keep that promise for you thanks to how he is. Even then, be sure Sky won't ever forget his friends, alright Lambo?
- But-puff!
He couldn't stop himself from pouting or the bad face. He didn't notice the pink weapon leaving sparks of electricity at his side. He hoped he wouldn't forget to ask the kind man what he meant with the last he said. It wasn't like he was going to meet Sky someday, right?
