Chapter 14: More Grimm

Disclaimer: RWBY belongs to Rooster Teeth and Monty Oum, I only own my Ocs.

Team RXDY

Rena leads her team on their next mission after their injuries healed. Their client was Gerenal Ironwood. Their objective was investigating a spike in Grimm activity beyond the shores of Argus including one unknown Grimm that washed up on shores two days ago. According to reports it was ripped apart by some predator. By what was unknown, thus the Atlas Academy headmaster wanted Team RXDY to investigate.

They spend the next few hours preparing for the mission. Draco redesigned Judgement.

The gun itself now has more of a tactical design based on the combat shotgun with noticeable differences.

He thickened the metal of the gun itself for engagements with other melee type weaponry, it was charcoal gray in color, the pump handle was swapped with a rotating chamber that held eight Dust shells of various types, the rotating chamber had a smooth design and meant to withstand recoil if Draco ever fired the gun at point-blank. He purchased a gray fingerless glove to wear on his hand to protect his palm from getting calloused, his new weapon also had a red dot aimmer, standard trigger, dark gray adjustable handle and located near the tip of the barrel were two hidden hatches that housed dual thick blades, making the gun also an ax should Draco decide to get up close if he doesn't want to use his semblance.

The shotgun shells were custom made upon his request. Instead of being shaped like typical shotgun shells, they were somehow molded to resemble Dust crystals. To compensate for this design change, instead of firing pellets they were a single, concentrated blast packing a mean punch enabling him to inflict serious damage to one's aura and even armor if focused on one spot. He renamed his weapon Perses.

After purchasing a few boxes of shells, he heads out for the rendezvous point.

Rena bought a new eye patch after discarding the one Professor Eden gave her.

Once everyone's ready, they ventured to the beach of Argus where they're greeted by the awful stench of the half-eaten, rotting carcass.

According to a scientist taking notes, the Grimm was a whale about fifty feet long, pitch black in color, red-orange eyes and bone plating running from its knobby head to tail, its huge mouth was partially open revealing baleen. Studying the condition of the body the faunus team discovers the tail was nearly ripped off, one of its flippers was missing, bite marks littered the lower jaw and the ribcage was torn open, exposing the ribs.

Xavier notices a white object lodged in one of the ribs. Walking up to it, he grabs the root and starts pulling, the object comes out smoothly. Placing the object upright the ox faunus discovers it being a tooth measuring seven inches long, triangular in shape and had serrations meant for slicing off chunks of meat. His eyes locate more teeth embedded in the creature's underbelly causing him to pull them out. They shared the same appearance but four times smaller than the first tooth.

Draco asked, "What's up? Find anything?"

Xavier replied, showing the teeth, "Yeah. These. They're teeth no Grimm I know have."

Yumi said, "Maybe they belong to some marine type of Grimm."

Xavier nodded, "It would make sense but what? And this creature. It's certainly not hostile, its shape tells me that. I wonder, could it be another member of the True Grimm?"

The scientist walked over to them, "Ah, you must be the team Ironwood sent. Excellent." He next pointed at the carcass with his clipboard, "That behemoth washed up on our shore two days ago. Whatever attacked it had to be of considerable size to inflict those wounds. Some kind of marine predator. There hasn't been any Grimm in the archives matching this animal. That's why I'm here."

Xavier displayed the teeth, "These teeth are the culprit. Have you decided to name the dead animal?"

The scientist said, "Yes. I call it Humpback."

A voice exclaimed, "See? I told you I wasn't crazy!" The group turns around to see a young human in his mid-twenties, stood just under six feet tall, had short brown hair with blonde streaks, blue eyes, fair skin and wore attire typical of Atlasians approaching.

Rena asked, "And you are?"

The human introduced himself, "Name's Hamilton Kraff. I've been citing reports of that Humpback for some time. Turns out this creature travels in a pod. They haven't attacked ships coming to and from Argus. This creature was attacked by a marine Grimm. That tooth your friend is holding confirms the identity of the attacker. It belongs to a huge shark Grimm called Devil Jaws."

Yumi asked, "Have you seen it?"

Hamilton nodded, "I have. I've seen the videos of the monster shark attacking Humpbacks. I had the fortune to have an up-close view of the attack. I watched its massive, black triangular head erupt from the water tearing into the dead animal and ripping off chunks of whale blubber and swallowing them whole. I saw one of its eyes briefly lock with mine before returning its attention to eating. Since then, I wanted to document one of these attacks as they happen."

Xavier showed him the smaller teeth, "What about these? Do you know which species of shark Grimm they belong to?"

Hamilton informed, "Those belong to Blade Jaws, a smaller version of Devil Jaws. They've been following it for some time, feeding off of leftovers. I've been trying to convince Ironwood to allow me observe Devil Jaws, but the man has refused."

Draco said, "Let us try convincing Ironwood."

The human looked at the dragon faunus with hopeful eyes, "Really?"

Draco nodded, "Yeah, since it's basically our mission." He contacts the General on his scroll.

Ironwood asked, "Yes, Draco?"

The dragon faunus said, "Mr. Ironwood, we have confirmed the identity of the mysterious creature on the shore of Argus. It's a whale Grimm named Humpback. It was attacked and killed by a shark Grimm called Devil Jaws."

Ironwood hummed, "Devil Jaws and Humpback. Hmm, I've been receiving reports about the latter showing up in pods recently."

Hamilton chimed in, "I brought those reports to light, General. You're welcome!"

Draco resumed, "Anyway, my team wish to see one of these attacks take place. With your permission, General, we'd like to barrow a boat for this."

Ironwood said, "The scientist I sent out there to investigate can help with that. Irvine!"

The scientist walked over, "Yes, Ironwood?"

The General ordered, "You'll take Team RXDY and Hamilton out to open sea and record one of these Humpbacks." Out in the open ocean a Humpback has strayed from its pod.

Stalking its prey is a colossal shark Grimm, its immense torpedo-shaped body gliding effortlessly through the water.

This giant female measured sixty feet long, pitch black on its upper body and stark white underneath, bone white plating ran from its snout to the tail, massive jaws filled with seven-inch long triangular serrated teeth ready to tear flesh apart and red-orange eyes scanning the area.

Balancing the beast were its fins.

Its six-foot dorsal fin acted like a massive sail preventing it from rolling, its ten-foot plus long pectoral fins acted like the wings of an airship ensuring maximum lift, its second dorsal was smaller than the main, its crescent moon-shaped cadual fin measured close to thirteen to fourteen feet tall, providing maximum thrust while providing minimal drag, an immense keel ensured max strength, a pair of pelvic fins rounded out the compliment. Healed bite marks littered its right pectoral fin.

Receptors on its nose pick up the electrical impulses given off by the moving muscles of its prey, guiding it.

Hamilton directs the scientist where he suspects the next attack will occur. Once there, he orders the helmsman to cut the engine off and lowers a submersible robot into the water to watch, they observe via monitors connected to the robot. Now, they wait.

Soon Draco tapped the scientist on the shoulder, "I see something. Point the robot at that direction." The scientist follows the order allowing virtually everyone their first look of the shark Grimm.

As Devil Jaws closes in on the whale, it descends to gain the element of surprise. When it's below the target it changes direction, eyes directed above making out the silhouette of the Humpback. Moving upward the massive shark Grimm pumps its tail faster. Its mouth opens, jaws pertrude forward, snout tipping upward and eyes rolling back, the monster strikes! It bites deep into the tail of the Humpback shaking its head from side to side, the serrations on its massive teeth acting like meat cutters. It eventually rips off a chunk of flesh and bone from the whale Grimm's tail blood gushes out. But Devil Jaws isn't done. It launches its second attack, this one more brutal than the first. Its jaws clamp down on the whale's ribcage crushing its ribs, one of its teeth falls out but in a few weeks a new one will take its place. It moves its head left then right. Left, right, left, right. Eventually it rips out a huge chunk of blubber from the whale Grimm's ribcage.

The behemoth shark moves away waiting for its prey to bleed out before coming back to feed.

Thanks to the submersible robot the crew on the research vessel are given an uninterrupted gruesome view of the attack, seeing the shark Grimm tear off pieces of meat and blood stains the surface of the ocean.

The Humpback rolls onto its side as it bleeds to death.

Hamilton sees the black dorsal fin break the surface indicating Devil Jaws' return. With its prey now weak from blood loss it's feeding time. The massive triangular head breaks the ocean surface. While watching the monster feast on the carcass, the scientist zooms in on the shark Grimm's stomach. It was swollen.

He muttered, "What the hell?" He checks again to make sure his eyes aren't deceiving him. To his shock, it's true.

The others look at the video footage.

Hamilton asked, "Is that creature...pregnant?" Team RXDY exchange looks with each other, all sharing the same thought.

This marine predator is a True Grimm but how did it survive this long?

They next spot a group of Blade Jaws in the distance each ranging from 15 to 20 feet long, mostly males and one female. Bone-white plating covered its head, jaws and forward half of the pectoral fins while the rest of their bodies were black on top, white underneath and red-orange eyes completed the intimidating look.

They circle the area waiting for the bigger shark Grimm to finish feeding. Soon Devil Jaws has eaten its fill and departs the area. It knows the Blade Jaws pack had been following it. The female tolerates them, provided they don't get too close.

The smaller shark Grimm move in to feed on the whale carcass.

Hamilton feels a sense of accomplishment hit him. The submersible robot is brought back onto the ship and they return to port. Draco hands Ironwood the video of their findings.

Ironwood said, "So there does exist marine type Grimm. You said these shark Grimm are Devil Jaws and Blade Jaws, Hamilton?"

Hamilton nodded, "Yes. Do you believe me now?"

Ironwood replied, "Given the evidence you presented, I do."

Rena said, "There's something you need to know, Ironwood."

The General told her, "What is it?"

Rena said, "This is something I wish to discuss in private."

Ironwood noticed the sternness in the faunus' voice and directed his gaze at the others, "Hamilton, Irvine, you are dismissed. Thank you for your cooperation. Also Irvine, you have my permission to research these shark Grimm. We need to learn as much as we can so future students never cross paths with them. Hamilton, you can help him."

Irvine saluted, "As you wish, General."

Hamilton said, "You and I are going to have fun studying this beast." The group waits for the duo to leave, hearing the door close.

Ironwood asked, "Now what is so important you wished to have them leave?"

Draco explained, "Ironwood. My team and I have come to suspect Devil Jaws and its smaller relative Blade Jaws are True Grimm."

Ironwood furrowed his eyebrows, "True Grimm? Never heard of it. Explain."

Draco did so, "As the name entails, the True Grimm are sentient beings. They've been around since the Grimm War and call the Grimm our world faces pretenders."

Ironwood asked, "And you met these True Grimm?"

Draco nodded, "We have, sir. We encountered them in Senran Village in the outskirts of Akita, it was obviously a set-up by Joey Werner who wanted the bounty placed on our heads. After we helped their leader, Venus and her people defeat Joey and his invasion force, Rena forged an alliance with Venus."

Ironwood queried, "What is Venus' view of humans?"

Draco replied, "So far, tolerable. They haven't launched attacks on settlements and appear content with living in peace. Although it doesn't explain why there's been a spike of Grimm activity off the coast of Argus."

The Atlas headmaster hummed, "Hmm, that is a mystery."

Rena said, "There's something else too."

Ironwood asked, "What?"

Draco answered, "While Devil Jaws was feeding on the Humpback, the submersible robot got a view of the beast's stomach and it was swollen. This means only one thing. Ironwood, the female is pregnant."

Ironwood eyes widened, "Are you sure?"

Draco replied, "Yeah, like we're making that shit up. We double-checked and our eyes weren't deceiving us. I think the Devil Jaws we encountered is one of the last of its kind. For all we know there could be more of its species lurking in the ocean. I think it's possible the female Devil Jaws has been sighted and preying on these Humpback to prepare giving birth to live young." Ironwood falls silent at the new information.

A pregnant shark Grimm patrolling the waters of Argus and could give birth at any time.

He next asked, "Are there are more of the True Grimm?"

Xavier replied, "Most of them are concentrated in Senran Village under Venus' leadership. And like Draco just said, her species ruled every corner of Remnant land, sea and air until they got caught in the crossfire of the Grimm War. As for those shark Grimm, we have no clue. We just met them."

Ironwood crossed his arms in thought, "In that case, studying these shark Grimm has become vital. They can provide a whole new wealth of information and expand our vault of Grimm types. For the time being we're sticking to automatic submersibles until we know more. I'll also have to rethink shipping routes for vessels coming to and from Argus."

Rena turned around, "We're done here, then. Only share this with people you know won't use it for some stupid motive. I'm trusting you on this, Ironwood. Don't blow it." There's a subtle threat in her tone.

Ironwood said, "I wouldn't dream of betraying you, Rena. I'm a man of my word." The faunus team heads for the door of Ironwood's office.

Rena suddenly stopped and warned, "One last thing. Don't underestimate the True Grimm. They're not mindless beasts like the ones we face. They're intelligent. In addition, make sure the Atlas Council doesn't put bounties on my team's heads. You've heard stories of what happens to those who do, right?"

Ironwood answered, "No need to remind me." The group exits the headmaster's office.

Xavier asked, "Was it necessary to threaten Ironwood like that? I can understand how cautious you are to those you meet but come on, Ironwood isn't one of them."

Rena replied, "Years of being manipulated and having your trust be exploited does that to you, Xavier." That evening they stay in a hotel eating dinner they bought, unaware of what's happening in the ocean.

The female Devil Jaws cruises through the water digesting its consumed meal when its massive body is suddenly hit by contractions. On instinct she races toward the bottom and swims in wide circles. Then with a push that shakes its huge girth, a seven-foot-long male pup emerges that automatically swims away. A few seconds later, the female gives birth to another male pup, this one measuring eight feet long. Orange-red eyes takes in the surroundings before it senses danger and leaves the area. A third contraction hits Devil Jaws, a ten-foot female emerges and mirrored the actions of its two siblings, disappearing into the darkness of the ocean.

Devil Jaws stays close to the ocean floor exhausted from the event. It opens its mouth allowing sea water to enter, gills fluttering as she breathes. While allowing itself to recover from the efforts of giving birth Devil Jaws knows the ocean is her domain and as such must protect it from intruders including Grimm. Once it recovers enough the giant female resumes its journey

A/N: Chapter 14 done.

Here I introduced three new True Grimm: The Humpback, Devil Jaws and Blade Jaws, all based on the creatures in real life and the latter two based on my two favorite sharks. The Megalodon and Great White shark. I can personally see shark Grimm exist in the RWBY universe.

Now, while the Megalodon is generally described as a bigger, stockier version of the Great White shark, they aren't closely related like initially thought. Megalodon is now part of the Otodontidae, a class of mega toothed sharks that lived from the Early Cretaceous Period and final chronospecies of giant sharks originally from the genus Otodus. Go look it up.

Anyway, Team RXDY watched it attack a Humpback and the shark Grimm later on gave birth to pups. What will this entail in the future?

Read and review.

Stay tuned for chapter 15.
