Chapter 23: The Calm before the Storm Part 2

Team RXDY

Team JPNR stands ready to face Team BRNZ in the woods and mountains biomes.

Professor Port counted down, "Three, two, one, begin!"

Jaune said, "Let's go, guys!" As the two teams run at each other, May runs to the forest section, loading her semi-automatic sniper rifle.

Brawz throws a flying knee to Pyrrha who blocks with her shield and parries a strike from his claws strapped to his hands and misses a counterattack when he jumps back, May switches her sniper rifle into its ax form and uses it as a spring hook to bring herself up to a branch and switches her weapon back to its sniper rifle form.

Nora and Ren surround Nolan from both sides and Nora strikes first, swinging Manghild at Nolan. The dark red-haired young man ducks and spins around, Ren looks to attack when a purple shot streaks past him and impacts the rock behind him, shattering it. Jaune uses his shield to block strikes from Roy's Circular Saws which are saws attached to wrist bracers. He searches for the sniper and spots May hiding in the trees ready to fire another round.

He ordered, "Sniper! Retreat!" The blonde and Pyrrha uses their shields to provide cover as the team hides behind a rock formation.

Pyrrha asked, "What do we do?"

Seeing Roy, Nolan and Brawz approaching, Jaune ordered, "Spread out! Try to keep moving." Seconds later Brawnz leaps at him hitting the shield with his claws while May jumps to another branch. Brawnz changes targets, directing his attention to Pyrrha while Nolan targets Ren. Looking over his shoulder toward his teammate Nolan nods at May, the fellow dusky rose head lays cover fire distracting Ren by making him do evasive moves allowing Nolan to come in and whack Ren with his Cattle Prod. Quickly recovering Ren throws a roundhouse kick that Nolan easily avoids and counters with a strike to the foot and stuns Ren with an electric jab. Nora looks to avenge, swinging Manghild at Nolan. The young man ducks and jabs Nora who isn't effected by the electricity, instead she lets out a smug chuckle.

Professor Port commented, "Ho-ho, it looks like one of my favorite students, Nora Valkyrie is charging up to use her semblance."

Nolan asked, "What?"

Ooblock explained, "Yes. Miss Valkyrie's semblance lets her produce as well as channel electrical energy straight to her muscles. This allows her to jump explosively into the air to use her mighty hammer or in this case absorb all instant attacks and send our young man flying."

Nolan's eyes widened, "Wait. what?!" Directing his gaze at Nora, he sees the girl flexing with a smug grin causing Nolan to back up. It doesn't work as Nora drives Manghild into his chest and uses the absorbed electricity to send the dark redhead crashing into a boulder, shattering it upon impact.

Jaune looks at the mountain to spot a storm cloud forming with lightning flashing, coming up with an idea.

He called out, "Nora, get the mountain!"

The ginger saluted at him, "You got it!" She zips past him at high-speed beginning to ascend the mountain.

Jaune said, "Ren, try to distract the sniper." The young man dodged a round from May's gun.

He answered sarcastically, "Sure, why not?" Roy throws his saw blades at Jaune like deadly boomerangs, the lethal weapon bounce off his shield whacking the blonde in the face. The saw blades return to the wrist braces, locking in place as Roy attacks Pyrrha.

Jaune shakes his head to recover.

In her seat Ruby cheered, "Yeah, go get him, Jaune!"

Blake commented, "He's certainly improved."

Yang said, "Yeah, but he's got nothing on Pyrrha!" The female Spartan holds her own against Roy and Brawnz as Ren bolts toward May dodging fire, entering a scuffle with Nolan but triumphs using him as a human shield against May. She switches targets.

Ren noticed, "Nora!"

Jaune grunted, "Pyrrha, up!" The fiery redhead young woman runs toward Jaune, deflecting one of Roy's circular saws, leaps over Brawnz to jump onto Jaune's shield and Jaune uses all of his strength to generate momentum for Pyrrha to jump into the air, using her shield to block May's shot the force behind it sends Pyrrha flying.

Nora reaches the top of the mountain and lifts Manghild into the air, the weapon acting like a lightning rod to direct a bolt into Nora before switching her weapon into its grenade launcher form. She shoots a full salvo at May who watches it come close. The redhead groans as the grenade shells hit generating a pink cloud. She jumps to another branch but soon finds herself coughing from the smoke, leaving no choice but jump down.

The male members of Team BRNZ see Nora falling to them with a pink aura around her, Manghild back in its hammer form. Nora slams Manghild into the ground leaving cracks and sending Brawz, Roy and Nolan to May.

Jaune said, "Okay guys, let's finish this!" Team RXDY watches JPNR debate over their team attack with sweat drops.

Draco shouted, "Hey, quit debating! You're wasting time!" Team JPNR looks around to hear the audience booing.

Jaune sighed, "Nora...just hit them with your hammer."

Nora grinned, "Got it."

Roy blinked, "Wait, what?" Nora jumps over to them and swings Manghild, hitting Team BRNZ and sends them flying into the force field and out of bounds, ending the match.

Port confirmed, "And with that, Team JPNR wins by knockout. Literally. Can somebody make sure Team BRNZ is okay?" The next match is Team NDGO from Shade Academy taking on Team SSSN representing Haven Academy.

Doctor Ooblock said, "I'm sure everyone is still recovering from that last fight but this one will have them on the edge of their seats."

Professor Port agreed, "Yes. Team NDGO of Shade is certainly a crowd favorite but these lovely young ladies are going against the toughest, testosterone filled teammates we have seen thus far. I'm of course talking about Team SSSN. Sun Wunkong and his team are certainly a force to be reckoned with and although he'll be representing the Mistral academy of Haven, I'm sure his friends and family back in Vacuo will be cheering them on." The team's fan base squeals at the sight of them, holding up poster boards of them.

Neptune to NDGO, "Remember girls, hands above the waist."

Sun placed a hand on Neptune's shoulder, "Dude, stop. Don't worry about him, ladies. He's dumb." Neptune winks at NDGO as the monitor pops up starting its random terrain selection ending up with the desert and ocean biomes. The artificial sun's light makes some of the audience put on sunglasses to block out the glare.

The leader of Team NDGO, Nebula Violette said, "All right, home field advantage!"

Sun warned them, "Don't get too cocky, I'm from there too."

Scarlet David said, "Hope I don't get sand in my shoes."

Neptune told him, "Keep cool, man."

Nebula said, "Hey, the ocean!" Neptune freezes turning around to see the water.

In her seat Ruby asked, "Um, what's wrong with Neptune?"

Blake face palmed, "Oh, no. Neptune is afraid of the water." The rest of the ocean segment of the biomes rises up with a shore and shipwreck.

Ooblock said, "Three, two, one, begin!" Neptune bolts past Team NDGO and climbs the rock.

Sun wondered, "Neptune, what are you doing?"

Neptune said, "Um, gaining the high ground."

Sun replied, "On the enemy's side?"

Neptune assured, "They'd never expect it!" Scarlet discards his red military pelisse-like jacket

Dew Gayl of Team NDGO admitted, "He's not wrong."

Nebula barked, "Open fire!" The Shade team run at Neptune's position which makes the other members of Team SSSN to come to his rescue.

Octavia Ember jumps from her side of the field, dropping to her knees and sliding past a swing from Scarlet's cutlass sword Darling while Sage Ayana swings his large sword Pilgrim at Dew who easily counters the attack with her spear. Using wind Dust she conjures three cyclones, combining into one large cyclone and sends Sage out of bounds taking him of the fight. Sun and Scarlet notice it on the projection screen and ready themselves for battle against Octavia. She swings her dagger Kris at them sending fire Dust their way. The explosion sends a cloud of dust at the two who shield their eyes. When the dust settles, Sun runs looking to find an attack point.

Sun said, "Neptune!" The light blue-haired young man joins the fray and Octavia performs the same attack, Neptune pulls down his goggles to protect his eyes. He retaliates with a round from Tri-Hard. The distraction allows Sun to land to Octavia's face staggering her. Recovering she targets the monkey faunus. Sun grins as he draws his weapon Ruyi Bang and Jingu Bang joined together to form a bo staff and deflects her attack. He lands a strike on her face, leg, stomach and finishes with a jab, each strike taking out her aura until it reaches zero.

Scarlet struggles with Dew when she her spear to conjure up a cyclone, propelling him towards the shipwreck. He utilizes his semblance Gliding to land on the main mast, Nebula and Gwen of NDGO follow him. Scarlet hooks his hands on the wooden mast using the momentum to land, almost trips but manages to stabilize. Nebula fires an arrow into the pole and uses it as a springboard to meet Scarlet, shifting her crossbow into its blade form. Scarlet and Nebula enter a sword fight, Nebula nails him in the face with the hilt and Scarlet responds with a kick to her face. Entering a blade lock Scarlet struggles to keep the blade away from his face he performs a sweeping move as a feint to drive his elbow into Nebula's chest, knocking the enemy team leader to the lifeboat beneath her. Seeing Gwen giving his team leader trouble, Scarlet points his flintlock pistol Hook and fires the handle which doubled as a grappling hook, wrapping it around Gwen's leg and hoists her into the air while he comes down. Gwen places her hands on her combat skirt to keep it still but her throwing knives fall out of their places, creating a deadly rain of steel. Scarlet's green eyes widen in horror and prays none of them hit. Luckily they don't.

Dew leaps onto a small island grinning at Sun. The monkey faunus looks at the coconut tree and gets an idea. Landing a punch on the tree causes two coconuts to fall onto his hands and throws them at his opponent, Dew uses her spear like a baseball bat sending the coconuts back while the objects turn into fireballs from the force of the swing. Sun leans back to evade but Scarlet isn't so lucky. One coconut hits his face and the other his manhood, leaving him groaning as his aura is knocked to zero.

Yang winced in her seat, "Ouch."

Sun evaded two water Dust cyclones, "Neptune, I could use some help, buddy!"

Neptune responded, "You know what? It'd be better if you came over here! Yeah, I can guard this sector. We're in lock down mode."

Sun asked, "What are you talking about? There is nothing to lock down!"

Neptune gave him the thumbs-up, "Lock down. Got it!"

Sensing danger Sun evaded an attack from Dew, "I know you're afraid of water but…" Neptune saves his team leader from a surprise attack by shooting Dew away.

He said, "There, I helped. Are you happy now? Also, I'm not afraid of water and I have no idea what you're talking about."

Seeing Nebula and Gwen join Dew in the water Sun said, "Neptune!"

The light blue-haired hunter in training said, "Okay, fine. Just get out of the water!" Sun jumps over to his location while Neptune changes his weapon into its trident form lightning sparks and stabs the weapon into the water, the electric current quickly makes its way toward the remaining members of Team NDGO electrocuting them and winning the match as the buzzer sounds.

Professor Port said, "And with that, Team SSSN will move on to the doubles round. You know what I call that victory?"

Ooblock guessed, "Shocking?"

Port replied, "No, well-earned. What you just said was stupid!"

Ruby leaned back in her seat, "Oh man, that was so close."

Yang gestured with her hand, "Looks like the dorks made it to the next round." Blake watches Sun and Neptune dance in victory before Sun directs his gaze at the cat faunus, giving her the thumbs-up making Blake blush.

She commented, "Emphasis on dork."

Ooblock said, "That concludes the matches for today. Will the audience leave in an orderly fashion." Outside of Beacon grounds, Venus leads a squadron of archers on a hunt for Grimm, soon detecting a pack of Beowolves and a Lupine patrolling an area.

Venus silently commands her men to open fire on the Grimm save for the Lupine, wanting to deal with it herself. The archers load fire Dust arrows, pulling the string back and release. The arrows scream toward the Grimm puncturing their throats while setting them on fire. The Beowolves fall to the ground vaporizing while Lupine stares at them. Returning its gaze to the front a startled growl escapes it when Venus appears before it Reckoner drawn. A swift beheading occurs, the headless corpse falls onto its side. Sniffing the air Venus picks up the scent of a White Fang patrol heading their way ordering the archers to hide while she conceals herself in the bushes. Quietly parting the bushes to see Venus watches the White Fang patrol appear.

A fox faunus commented, "This is so boring. When will the invasion begin?"

A deer faunus assured, "Soon, my brother. Soon."

'Too bad you won't be there to see it.' Venus thought.

She sprints out of her hiding spot, startling the White Fang patrol unit and kills them before they can react. Sheathing her blade, the Queen of the Dinosaur Grimm walks up to the corpses with hunger in her eyes.

Venus gets on her knees near one of them ripping the vest open and her teeth take on their carnivorous form and begins feasting on the carcass. The archers emerge from their hiding spots and look at their queen with permission to eat. Venus nods and the archers drop their disguise, assuming their true forms which are a pack of sub-adult Carcharodontosauruses.

A/N: Chapter 23 done.

Here we see Teams JPNR and Team SSSN triumph over Teams BRNZ and NDGO respectively.

And Venus led her archers on a little hunt.
