Chapter 29: Unexpected Surprise

The next day of the Vytal Tournament comes, and Team RXDY are enjoying breakfast at the lobby as Draco reads some random news article on his scroll.
Suddenly they heard Professor Port say, "Today the popular Team RXDY will take on Team ONYX, a second-year team from Shade Academy." The mercenaries stop what they're doing upon hearing that.
Xavier said, "Only teams chosen from one of the academies can participate in the Vytal Tournament, anyone not affiliated with these academies can't. Something smells fishy."
Draco asked, "You think it could've been a result of that system crash?"
Yumi gained a thoughtful look, "Who knows? We should report this to whoever's in charge of the Vytal Tournament. I suppose Headmaster Ozpin is the one overseeing the tournament since it's being held in Vale." Unknown to them, in the Haven guest dorm, Cinder looks over the result of her chosen matches.
The virus she implanted into CCT not only prevents the kingdoms from communicating it also allows her to rig matches in the Vytal Tournament anyway she wants. The maker of the virus has one other feature upon the Queen's request and that is to install Team RXDY as a participating team of the tournament, as a team enrolled in Haven Academy.
'Let's see what you four can do.' Cinder thought with a sinister grin.
Upon finishing breakfast, the team journeys to Ozpin's office hoping the headmaster had answers.
Ozpin looks out the window of his clock-themed office when the elevator dings and Team RXDY steps out, walking over to his desk. Their footsteps alert the headmaster and turns around.
He greeted, "Hi there. Can I help you?"
Draco said, "We just received word that we're taking on Team ONYX from Shade Academy."
Ozpin typed on the keyboard of his desk, "Let me see. Ah, here you are. You're correct, Mister-"
Draco introduced himself, "Draco Lance."
The headmaster nodded, "Draco."
Draco said, "That's the thing. We don't attend of the academies, thus not qualified to participate in the tournament. Only registered students can, this is a violation of tournament rules. The match between Rena and Alexia was an exception since it took place a month prior."
Ozpin hummed, "Until it's resolved, you four have to compete. I'll state it's a treat for the crowd to see the infamous mercenaries Team RXDY in action."
Rena told him, "I suggest you start finding a solution right away. Who knows when our match will occur?" Ozpin looks at the time of the next match, pondering on Ashton's words.
"The enemy is playing 4D chess while you're playing checkers." Was this what the young man meant?
Ozpin said, "The match will take place around one o'clock this afternoon. Should a solution present itself before then, I'll contact you." Draco gives the headmaster his scroll contact and Ozpin watches them leave.
'What are you planning, Queen?' He mentally asked.
Yumi wondered, "Can Ozpin be trusted?"
Xavier crossed his arms, "We may have no choice but to." As they wander Beacon grounds, the group walks past Emerald and Mercury, the former freezing in her tracks upon feeling the burning desire for revenge coming off of Draco.
Mercury shook her, "Em, are you okay?"
Emerald blinked a few times, regaining her composure, "Y-Yeah. You felt it as well, right? That burning desire for revenge coming from Draco?"
The gray-haired teen nodded, looking at the direction of the mercenaries, "I did. It was akin to a fire so intense nothing could extinguish it, like it's what's fueling him. And yet, he keeps it in check. Cinder wasn't lying when she told us about Draco. Still, the last of his kind."
Emerald said, "I kind of feel sorry for him, to be honest." When Mercury returned his gaze to her the mint-haired girl explained, "Being the last of your kind, nobody to turn to or seek comfort from. Wandering the streets, doing what you can to survive. You cling to the hope someone will come rescuing you from that life but the likelihood of that is small." As Emerald tells him that, memories of her earlier days before she met Cinder play through her mind.
The district she lived in was stuck in poverty and she resorted to robbing from stores and one time, she unknowingly unlocked her semblance Hallucinations where she tricks the mind of the victim, making them see things that aren't truly there. She used this on a jewel merchant when she stole one of his rings. This was what made her be recruited by Cinder and her partner Emerald knew but sadly perished during a mission. She respected that person as much as she does Cinder.
She continued, "Draco's reason for revenge is justified. Revenge can be a powerful motivator."
Mercury grinned in a teasing way, "Why Emerald, are you feeling something for the boy?"
Emerald gave him an annoyed look, "No, Mercury. Jeez. You jump to conclusions too easily. I don't understand why I tolerate you. You're so annoying."
The gray-haired teen kept the grin on his face, "Because you love me, you just refuse to admit it." Emerald now glares at him, wishing it alone would scare her partner, but it doesn't.
The all faunus team ventures into town, hearing random gossip until fate would have it, meet up with Team TEAL.
Tira smiled, "Fancy meeting you four here."
Yumi greeted, "We just came down here to enjoy the view. We watched your match with Team RUST yesterday. It was quite the spectacle."
Alexia nodded, "It was. But it was RUST who emerged victorious."
Xavier chuckled, "Well, they beat a Gloom Widow, although they had help doing so."
Alexia commented, "We heard about them in Professor Port's class. They're a spider Grimm deemed so dangerous they were hunted to extinction."
Xavier added, "Or so everyone thought. Guess a few survived."
Alexia told him, "How did you encounter it?"
Yumi explained, "We were investigating a report that Adam Taurus was spotted in Vacuo. When we arrived, we asked the locals if they've seen Adam. They all said no. We rented a truck to take us out into the desert when we heard a battle taking place. That's when we met Team RUST, they just finished dealing with an ant Grimm called Legionnaire. We offered to take RUST back to Shade Academy when our truck was knocked onto its side and dragged underground. We awoke and upon doing a quick head count, we set out to find our driver until we spotted him in a web of some type of Grimm. Moments later we saw the Gloom Widow making its way over to the driver and drained him dry. It engaged us in battle, living up to its dangerous reputation. We were lucky to escape with our lives. A search party was sent out by Professor Eden, Shade Academy's headmaster. We hopped onto the bullhead and left just in time because moments later the Gloom Widow erupted from the ground. Its roar could be heard over the sound of the bullhead's engines.
Alexia said, "Consider yourselves lucky for not meeting a Dread Widow."
Xavier asked, "A Dread Widow? What's that?"
Alexia replied, "It's a bigger and more menacing version of the Gloom Widow. In other words, its alpha form." A look of horror forms on Emmara's face, terrified over Yumi's recalling of the spider Grimm and the mere thought of meeting either of the arachnid's forms. Tira sees her sister's frightened face and hugs her, comforting Emmara.
Seeing the look on Emmara's face, Yumi crossed her arms behind her back, changing the subject, "So, wanna do anything?"
Tira said, "We can explore around town." The two teams walk around Vale City, exploring.
While they wander around, Ashton continues working on his mask. He rebuilt the voice changer and respirator and is currently installing the lenses to the mask's eye sockets. Once they're in place, Ashton inserts the screws and tighten them. He's eternally grateful his late mentor was both a tech savvy and expert blacksmith.
After the screws are tightened, he puts the mask on to see if the lenses turn on. They do, showing the outside world in high definition and hears the faint sound of recycled air pumping through the respirator. Ashton removes the mask.
'So far so good.' The young man thought.
He spends the next two hours working on the mask, installing the major components and look. He hears his stomach growl. Ashton has been so focused on the mask, he forgot to eat lunch. Locking up the workshop, he ventures into town looking for some place to eat meeting up with Klawdia. Halfway into their search, Ashton sees Cinder and pulls the hood over his head to hide his face. Seeing a popular cafe, they head there. Picking an empty table inside, Ashton lowers his hood.
The waiter came over, offering menus to them, "Welcome. My name's Evan and I'll be serving you today. Can I start with anything to drink?"
Ashton said, "Water's fine." He writes the orders down and departs to get them.
Klawdia asked, "So what was that about? When you saw Cinder, you panicked. Did she do something to you sometime in the past?" She noticed her partner's eyes wavering and pupils almost dilating, "Ashton?"
'Damn, that was close. I can't let Cinder know I faked my death.' The young man thought.
He jumps when he feels Klawdia place a hand on top of his, making him lift his head so fast he pinches a nerve in his neck. He hisses in pain before rubbing the area.
Klawdia asked, "Are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost." She notices him advert his gaze, something clearly troubling him.
Being a True Grimm, she can feel the emotions coming off of him. He's distraught and anxious. She cups his cheeks and turns his face to look at her concerned expression.
Klawdia said, "Something's bothering you, Ashton. Wanna talk about it? I'm all ears." Ashton doesn't answer making Klawdia more worried.
When Evan returns and asks them if they're ready to order, Ashton puts up a front, pushing the emotional turmoil down.
Ashton picks a sandwich with an apple and Klawdia selects two chicken breasts then asks for doggy bags, stating their order will be a carry-out and asks for the check.
Her partner asked, "Why did you do that?"
Klawdia replied, "Because you look troubled. I want to help you." It's not long before Evan returns with the doggy bags and the check, Ashton leaves a couple lien and the two leave the cafe. They return to their hotel room and eat their lunch while watching TV, taking an occasional sip of water.
Soon, the next match of the Vytal Tournament arrives.
Professor Port said, "Welcome to the second match of the day. Next up, we have the infamous mercenaries from Team RXDY taking on Team ONYX, a third-year team from Shade Academy in Vacuo. Given the accolades RXDY has gained, this shall be intense." Team ONYX stands in the arena ready for action.
The team leader Ophelia Hart was an 18-year-old human female, stood around 5'11" tall, sported dark purple hair in a bob-cut style, light olive skin tone, blue-gray eyes, 38C cup breasts, athletic figure honed by training. She wore a black inner body suit, over that was a suit of purple colored samurai armor and gray combat boots strapped closed.
Her chosen weapon is a katana with the scabbard having a rotating chamber containing different types of dust, allowing her to use whatever type she needs. She named her weapon Vulcan, after the Roman god of fire.
The second member, Nick was a half-wolf faunus indicated by his wolf ears covered with gray fur and his heterochromic eyes, his left was icy blue, and the right was brown, had short ash gray hair, fair skin, stood around 6 feet tall, 16 years old sported a natural athletic build and wore a red short-sleeve shirt, black jeans secured by a belt and brown boots.
His chosen weapon was a broadsword that provides multiple options in combat. He could wield a single blade, dual blades, a double-bladed glaive, dual rifles or join both halves together and wield a large, broadsword. The blade part was light gray in color, the hilt was black, had runes etched on the blade that changed color based on the type of dust ball placed in the center of the hilt, designed to be split and function whenever Nick switches it to one of its other forms and the runes light up when the dust ball was inserted. The triggers were hidden in the hilt when in blade form. He named the weapon Hydra, after the water serpent.
The third member of ONYX was Yuna Wong, another female human around 16 years old, stood 6'1" tall, had shoulder-length red hair, gray eyes, olive skin tone, large B cup breasts and toned figure. She wore a navy-blue tunic with elbow-length sleeves, black trunks, white socks and black boots strapped closed.
Yuna's weapon is a pair of fingerless gloves inspired by MMA fighters that had metal beads on the knuckles and located on the bottom of her wrists was a button that deployed metal guards over the knuckles laced with lightning Dust that stuns enemies with each strike. She named her gloves Scorpius, after the summer constellation.
The final member was a male ox faunus named Alex Striker, was the tallest of the group at 6'6" tall, dark brown eyes, short blonde hair, sharp horns, pale skin, muscular and ripped physique, and claws marks covered his left shoulder. He wore a white shirt, charcoal gray jeans, black boots and had scarlet red gauntlets, pauldrons and breastplate for protection.
His preferred weapon is a single-headed ax that can transform into a rifle for supporting fire. The outer part of the ax was blood red in color, gray in the inner and the retractable handle was black. He named his weapon Ares, after the Greek god of war.
'It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum and I'm all out of gum.' Draco thought as he drew Perses.
Xavier cracks his knuckles then deploys Gemini.
Yumi pulls out Hermes, holding it across her body in a reverse grip.
Ophelia bowed, "Good luck to you four. Fight with everything you got, as we will. I'm Ophelia Hart, by the way." The monitor begins selecting the biomes for this fight, settling with a geyser and mountain biomes.
Rena commented, "You have potential, Ophelia. But you're not a huntress yet." Wanting to test her skill against the One-Eyed Devil, Ophelia chooses Rena as her opponent.
Professor Port said, "Three, two, one, begin!" The buzzer and the teams run at each other.
Ophelia selects ice dust for her kitana and Rena draws Scarlet in a methodical manner, to intimidate her challenger. She detects a flicker of it in Ophelia's eyes as Rena uses her piercing gaze. Shaking her head to compose herself, the younger fighter activates her semblance Bolt that makes her move like a bolt of lightning. Rena stays put using her other senses to pinpoint her target. Her eye darts to the right and twirls in that direction lifting her claymore with one hand to block Vulcan. She spins Scarlet in a circle taunting her opponent. Ophelia goes for a different direction only to have Rena block it again and shove the girl onto her butt. Getting to her feet, Ophelia takes a step forward and Rena takes a step backward, Ophelia takes another step forward and Rena takes another step back without breaking eye contact. The human executes a series of precision strikes that Rena has no trouble keeping at bay. What Ophelia doesn't know is the one-eyed faunus is studying her fighting style, picking it apart to find the weakness. Ophelia blurs out of sight, obviously using her semblance. Rena turns in the directions the attacks are coming from no matter how fast. She lifts Scarlet over her head in both hands then slams it down where Ophelia appears, shattering the ice Dust sword. Jumping back, she equips fire Dust into Vulcan. The girl runs forward, clashing blades with Rena who thwarts every attack. Blocking an overhead chop, Rena scores a powerful kick to Ophelia's chest, knocking her back.
Rena said, "You're brave to challenge me."
Ophelia smiled at her, "Father once told me: to be the best, you have to beat the best." Rena walks forward never breaking eye contact with Ophelia.
The one-eyed faunus replied, "This world is unforgiving. It's not just Grimm you need to worry about." Ophelia acts out of reflex, maneuvering Vulcan in tight moves, grunting with effort. The human walks forward drawing on her training to protect herself from Rena's aggressive offense. A hard swing from the claymore breaks Ophelia's guard leaving her open to a hard right hook. Ophelia staggers from the blow, rubbing her cheek before her eyes widen in alarm bringing Vulcan up to block an uppercut but Rena is relentless, swinging her blade in multiple directions so fast they can only be seen as streaks of light. Cracks form in the ice Dust as the blade struggles to withstand the assault until a powerful uppercut shatters it along with sending Ophelia flying onto her back. She sits up to see Rena holding Scarlet on the dominant side of her body in both hands and running parallel down her arm and knees slightly bent.
Yumi evades punches from Yuna or deflects with Hermes. She ducks a punch aimed at her face and retaliates with a sideways slash that Yuna blocks with her protective gloves, grabbing hold of the wolf faunus' hand and pulls her in driving her fist into Yumi's stomach. Her amber eyes widen as she groans with saliva flying out of her mouth. Yuna throws punches into Yumi's gut then grips the outstretched arm and flips her overhead and down to the ground of the mountain half of the biomes. Yumi rolls away from a punch that would've likely damaged her aura. The wolf faunus jumps to her feet and dashes around and behind her opponent, jumping and nails the spinning heel kick to the temple that makes Yuna stumble on her feet. Activating her semblance, Yumi runs at the human slashing her with Hermes from different angles. Yuna nails a hard, closed backhand to Yumi's face making the wolf faunus fall onto her butt while her challenger glares at her.
Yumi's completely aware she can't go toe to toe with more physical dominating opponents but knows even the most physical fighting style has a weakness, she just needs to find it and plan her attack.
Nick swings Hydra at Xavier who deflects them with Gemini. Each attack is absorbed by the silver gauntlets when Nick splits Hydra into its dual blade mode, Xavier keeps his arms close. He sidesteps a stab from the primary blade and catches the off-hand blade aimed at his chest, lifting the half-wolf faunus off his feet and throws him. Hearing running, the ox faunus whips around, forming an X with his gauntlets to catch Ares. Alex pushes his ax-rifle downward. He frees one arm to catch Hydra when Nick attempts to launch a surprise attack. Alex grabs hold of one of Xavier's horns, spinning him around gathering momentum until he lets go. Xavier bounces off the ground a couple of times before skidding to a stop. He next dodges gunfire from the two adversaries. He zigzags the gunfire, closing the distance forcing Nick and Alex to switch their weapon back into weapon mode. Xavier ducks to avoid a side chop and drives his elbow into Nick's gut and chains it with an ax uppercut. He whips around to block strikes from Ares, each absorbed hit turning Gemini's color to orange. He rolls to the left when Nick returns with Hydra in its bladed glaive form. Nick twirls his weapon at the ox faunus making Xavier halt each of the strikes. Alex joins the fray. Xavier finds himself driven onto his back foot. He's not effective against multiple opponents.
A hard punch from Yuna knocks Yumi off her feet, her aura flickering as it takes the hit. Yuna walks forward deploying the metal guards and electricity arcs. Suddenly a red beam of fire Dust sends Yuna back. The human looks at who shot her, spotting Draco standing in front of his teammate. She gets back up and charges the dragon faunus. Draco parries Perses to block Yuna's punches until a well precise punch knocks Perses out of Draco's grip and skidding across the biomes. The dragon faunus flexes his claws and bares his teeth at Yuna including his fangs. Yuna charges, fist ready. Draco avoids the punch and counters with a slash, Yuna grasps his extended arm and pulls him forward aiming for his face. Realizing this, Draco brings one of his hands up catching the punch, clenching his teeth at the force behind the attack. He may have saved his face from being punched in, but it hurt. Yuna performs a standing heel kick that Draco blocks, Yumi leaps over Draco and kicks Yuna in the face, the human raises her arms to protect herself. Draco rakes his claws against them making Yuna hiss even though her aura takes the hit.
With Xavier, he's having difficulty with Nick and Alex practically double-teaming him. Fed up, he releases a roar and charges at the duo. Blocking a horizontal swing from Ares he grabs Alex's neck, hoists him up then drives him down to the ground with a thunderous chokeslam. Quickly snapping his gaze to Nick, he catches an overhand chop and cocks his free fist back, Gemini glowing white-hot and with a feral yell he drives his fist into Nick's stomach. The sheer force of the punch, combined with Xavier's raw strength, careens Nick back. His body skids on the ground. Whipping around, Xavier intercepts a surprise attack from Alex and stuns him with a backhand then grabs his face slamming Alex to the ground with brutal intensity. Taking hold of the opponent's leg, Xavier slams Alex left and right numerous times before kicking in the protected stomach. When Alex gets to his knees, he looks up to see a fist flying towards his face with enough force to catapult the fellow ox faunus back. Nick jumps onto Xavier's back, wrapping all four limbs around his body in a sleeper hold. Xavier bites one of Alex's hands to make the half-wolf faunus loosen the hold, allowing Xavier to grip the limb and Judo flips him over and down to the ground. Nick rolls away from Xavier's fist but the ox faunus doesn't let up, lifting Nick to his feet and throws him across the arena.
Rena concludes her studying of Ophelia's fighting style.
It appears the human uses her semblance to disorient her opponent and once they're psyched out, she wears her opponent's aura down with slashes. Too bad for Ophelia because the one-eyed faunus has fought opponents like her.
Turning to her 3 o'clock, Rena brings her claymore up to thwart a slash.
Rena said, "Is this all you got? If it is, you won't last long after you graduate from your academy."
Ophelia panted, "I still have tricks up my sleeve." The human attacks again, Rena deflects them with fluid movements of her wrist and lands a palm strike to Ophelia's face.
Rena's gaze pierces deep into Ophelia's soul while she watches the human get up. Time to end this.
The one-eyed faunus switches to offense, hammering at Ophelia's defense with overwhelming power blows and one horizontal swipe makes Ophelia stagger. A hard kick to the face knocks Ophelia onto her back. When the human girl gets back to her feet, Rena is nowhere in sight. She searches for the one-eyed faunus when Rena blurs into view, Scarlet raised over her head aflame. Ophelia brings Vulcan up to halt the power attack. She ducks a horizontal swing, but Rena doesn't let up, spinning around to Ophelia's back and slashes her. Staggering forward Ophelia recovers and turns around yelling in frustration. Rena brings her claymore down, her opponent struggles to remain standing but Rena's strength and aggression push Ophelia to one knee then scores a punch to the face. Next, Rena trades power for precision. She targets specific body parts such as the legs or arms. Each hit wears down Ophelia's aura. A strong uppercut from Scarlet launches her opponent, crashing onto her back. Ophelia struggles to sit up, lifting her head to see a red flame slithering its way towards her, a sign of Rena using her semblance. The flame connects with her, wiping out the human's remaining aura thus eliminating Ophelia from the match.
Xavier evades swings from Alex and Nick, getting behind them he charges. The two challengers turn around to feel a double clothesline.
The ox faunus has never exerted this kind of aggression in battle but he refuses to go down like this.
He bellowed at the two, "Come at me!"
Nick gets to his feet and runs at him, Xavier catches Hydra with one hand and slams his free fist into Nick's face. The half-wolf faunus' yellow aura flickers as he rolls on the ground before coming to a stop laying on his stomach. He gingerly pushes himself up on wobbly legs, through his dazed vision he sees the blurry form of Xavier planting his dominant foot and thrusts his fist forward nailing a right hook taking out the rest of Nick's aura. Quickly turning around, he catches Ares with his hands. With a yank of his arms tosses the weapon out of Alex's hands and bull rams into the breastplate, slams his elbow into the fellow ox faunus' temple, drives both fists onto armored clad back then a violent shoulder ram knocks Alex down. Seeing the mountain to his right, Xavier dares his opponent to chase him. Retrieving Ares, Alex pursues him.
Reaching his target, Alex swings his ax. Xavier sidesteps the swing and Ares lodges itself into the rock. While Alex tries freeing it, Xavier rams him into the mountain, throwing punches into Alex's stomach then slams the fellow ox faunus' head into the rock. Xavier hammers his opponent with hard punches, cracks begin to appear in the rock growing bigger with every punch and taking chunks out of Alex's aura. Gathering the last of the absorbed energy in his gauntlets, Xavier throws the hardest punch he's ever done. The crack explodes under the sheer force and Alex flying through it, bits of armor fling off of his body and his aura shatters. Alex grunts while trying to get up. Ultimately, he can't as his aura meter drops to zero.
Yumi and Draco keep Yuna on defense, not letting her counterattack. Sweat trickles down the human girl's face as she evades the strikes, constantly back-peddling to keep Hermes from touching her. She ducks a slash from Draco. Grabbing the outstretched arm Yuna pulls him forward, thrusting her knee into Draco's chest. A grunt escapes him and catches the second knee strike and Yumi uses her semblance to dash forward, using her teammate as a springboard and kicks Yuna in the face, the momentum from her semblance adding strength to her kick. Yuna is sent flying back. She quickly kick-ups and looks in front of her to discover her opponents aren't there. A loud whistle coming from her left, she turns to that direction and sees Draco waving at her with a mocking smile with his retrieved ax-shotgun. Wiping the sweat off of her forehead, Yuna runs at him. She throws punches at the dragon faunus who uses Perses to deflect them, guiding them to the geyser part of the biomes. Yuna feels Hermes connect with her back making the human stumble forward, whipping around she glares at the wolf faunus only to feel a fire Dust beam connect with her side. Turning her head to the left the human spots Draco pointing Perses at her with the barrel smoking.
'If we keep her from attacking, she can't use her semblance. Whatever it may be.' He thought.
He and Yumi charge at the same time, seeing Yuna deploy the metal guards and lightning dust begins arcing. Realizing this, Draco runs ahead of her teammate just as Yuna lifts her fist. He blocks with Perses. Seeing her switching to her free hand, he catches it getting shocked with the electricity.
He barked, "Now, Yumi!" The wolf faunus runs past him, activating her semblance vanishing from sight.
Yuna feels Hermes slash at her from multiple angles, each strike wearing down her aura. Looking at the geyser behind Yuna, Draco gets idea. Fighting through the pain caused by the lightning Dust he pushes Yuna back towards the geyser, ascending the flanks. Veins bulge against Yuna's temples from the exertion and attempts to power through the move. Yumi blurs into view, both feet raised and nails the dropkick sending the human girl into the geyser. A faint rumbling sound can be heard as pressure builds up underneath the geyser. Eventually, the pressure becomes too great, and a jet of water erupts, sending Yuna into the air. The ammo chamber on Perses rotates, selecting lightning Dust and Draco takes aim where Yuna is then fires. The yellow-colored beam screams toward her and... impact. The water covering Yuna's body conducts the lightning Dust, shocking her and wiping out the rest of her aura. Seeing her about to come down, Draco rushes over and catches her, making him absorb the brunt of the fall.
Yuna opens her eyes to see the sky and a roaring crowd along with her laying on her back.
She wondered, "What happened?"
Professor Port commented, "That was an intense fight, folks. Team ONYX put up a fight, but Team RXDY won." Quickly shooting to her feet, she sees her teammates standing next to her, happy to see the human girl awake.
Looking past them Yuna witnesses the mercenaries standing victorious.
Yumi waves at the crowd with a big smile on her face, Xavier has his arms crossed with a small grin, Draco rested Perses against his shoulder and Rena holds Scarlet to her right showing no reaction.
In her front row seat among the crowd, Cinder rubs her chin as Xavier shakes hands with Ophelia.
'Hmm, this fight was most informing. Can I persuade them to join our cause? No, they'd refuse.' The black-haired woman thought.
Cinder gets up and exits the Amity Colosseum. Upon returning to the guest dorms, the woman sits on the bed biting her thumbnail in thought. What can she do since the mercenaries won't join her? Pulling out her scroll, she sorts through the teams registered to compete in the Vytal Tournament. She hums with an evil smirk as Cinder ponders what fight she wants to change.

Here, Team RXDY fought against Team ONYX despite not attending any of the academies, thus unable to participate in the tournament officially. So, Ozpin made it a special event.
The all faunus team had to become more aggressive in their fight, more than usual.
