Silence.
That's all that could be heard for miles in the city of Tokyo-3. The only sound was that of cicadas, but no other sound was heard. Birds flew over the sea, now stained permanently with LCL and giving it a blood red appearance. Among the sea are destroyed buildings and households. On land however, hundreds of tanks line up close to the water with other military vehicles nearby. They are waiting for a creature that was said to rise on this day and threaten humanity.
This creature is part of the same species that caused devastation to not just this city, but to the whole world. In the year 2000, a creature of unknown origin awoke in the arctic and exploded, which knocked the Earth off its axis and brought an eternal summer. The polar ice caps melted and flooded many cities across the world, killing millions of people. The sea turned into a substance called LCL and it killed nearly all of the sea life in the ocean. Many countries fell into disarray and went to war. However, the world eventually calmed down and, for the last 15 years, have been focused on making sure that the event known as Second Impact never happens again.
Among the empty streets, many cars were abandoned due to the people having to take shelter. However, one car is driving through the empty streets. The car is blue and houses a purple haired woman who is in a frenzy to find her target.
"How could I lose him at a time like this? Ugh, Just my luck." The woman scolds herself.
In the passenger seat is a file with the picture of a young man. This young man may not look like much, but he is the key to humanity's survival.
"Due to a state of special emergency, all phone lines are currently disabled. Please try again later." The young man in the photo heard the message from the phone booth he is in.
"Seriously. The one time I need to call someone, the phone doesn't work." The young man says with annoyance.
The young man hangs up the phone and exits the phone booth. He is wearing black shoes, dark blue jeans, a black t-shirt, a purple jacket, and finally a cap that covers his brown curly hair. He looks like a normal 22 year old everyday citizen, but underneath he is a man with a dark past. A past he wishes to rectify.
He pulls out a photo of a purple haired woman, wearing a revealing outfit. The photo has the words, 'I'm coming to get you so just wait for me.' Along with an arrow pointing at her cleavage and saying, 'Get a load of these.' The young man simply ignores that part.
"There's no point in me just waiting out here while an emergency is happening." The young man says as he picks up his bag of belongings.
"The old man can suck it up for all I care." The young man says with a hint of anger in his voice.
He turns to walk to a shelter when he catches a glimpse of a girl in the distance. He tries to get a closer look, but a flock of birds distract him. He looks back, but the girl is nowhere to be seen. He rubs his eyes and reaches into his bag for some pills. He takes a couple and swallows them. The pills are to help him with his trauma since he believes that he was hallucinating that girl.
Suddenly, a massive boom echoes through the streets, causing the young man to cover his ears. When he can hear again, he hears loud stomps from something massive. He looks toward a mountain and sees helicopters following a massive kaiju-like creature walking through the streets.
"What…the hell?" The young man says in disbelief.
In a location far from the young man's position, a military base of sorts is currently monitoring the giant creature, known as an angel. Many individuals are at their stations and are monitoring the angel's movements and determining its trajectory. Among these individuals, two men watch the footage of the angel making its way towards their location.
"After 15 years." Sub-Commander Fuyutsuki says.
"Yes, there's no doubt. It's an angel." Commander Gendo Ikari says in a cold calculating voice
These two men are the leaders of Nerv. An organization dedicated to protecting mankind. At least on the surface.
Back to the young man. He watches as the military gunships open fire on the angel with their missiles. However, they do nothing as the angel shoots a beam at one of the gun ships and destroys it. The gun ship crashes close to the young man, who shields himself from the explosion. Suddenly, a blue car screeches to a halt in front of him.
"Hey there! Sorry I'm late!" A purple haired woman yells.
The young man recognizes her as the woman from the picture, Misato Katsuragi. He jumps in the car without a second thought as they drive off. And just in time as the angel's foot stomps on the area where the young man was standing.
The gun ships continue their assault as the generals of this army watch from Nerv's base.
"This is an act of war! Deploy all units from Asturias and Iruma as well!" One general orders.
"Commit everything we have. Destroy the target at all costs." Another General orders.
Gendo simply watches as these old fools try to stop the angel. He knows they can't and it's what he wants. He is simply waiting for the go ahead to release the one thing that can kill an angel. As well as waiting for the third child to arrive with Captain Katsuragi.
The ground units open fire on the angel by launching many missiles. An aircraft carrier flies in and fires a massive rocket at the angel. However, the angel cuts through the rocket, causing it to explode. When dust settles, the angel doesn't even have a scratch on it.
One general slams his hand on the desk and yells, "How is this possible?! That was a direct hit!"
"It wiped out our whole tank battalion. Guided munitions, bombs, and artillery are having no effect." Another general says.
"Damn it! We need more firepower!" The previous general yells.
"Is that the work of the A.T. Field?" Fuyutsuki asks.
"Yes. Standard weaponry will be useless against the angel." Gendo says.
The General's phone rings and one of the picks it up. "Yes sir. We'll deploy it immediately." The General says, speaking to the phone. Gendo knows that they'll try one more thing to kill the angel. However, not even that will kill it.
As for Misato and the young man, Misato pulled over to see where the angel was currently. She pulled out binoculars to see the military jets flying away. She is confused for a second before realizing, "They're arming an N2 mine! Are they crazy?!"
The young man is confused on what a N2 mine is when suddenly Misato jumps on him and covers him. "GET DOWN!" Misato screams as a massive explosion goes off.
The shockwave from the explosion sends the car flying as it rolls. The car finally stops rolling as the woman and young man peak their heads out to see the giant mushroom cloud.
"Was that nuke?" The young man asks.
"Not really. It's an N2 mine. Same power as a nuclear bomb, but none of the fallout." Misato answers.
The young man looks back at the massive mushroom cloud and thinks to himself, I should have stayed in America.
Misato gets out of the car and asks, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah. Besides the bruises and the dirt in my mouth." The young man answers.
"Well, if you're fine, help me with this." Said Misato as she points at the car.
The two of them get on one side of the car and lift up together. It takes a minute, but they eventually get it. "Thanks for the help. Couldn't have done it without you." Misato thanks the young man.
"It's no big deal. Your name's Misato Katsuragi, right?" The young man asks.
"Yep. You can just call me Misato." Said Misato as she takes off her glasses. "It's nice to finally meet you, Maikeru Ikari." Said Misato, greeting Maikeru Ikari, the oldest son of Gendo Ikari.
"You too." Said Maikeru.
Back at Nerv HQ, the generals celebrate that they got the angel. One of the generals looks back at Gendo and says, "You have my sympathies, but it seems your services were not required."
However, Gendo and Fuyutsuki say nothing as they know that Angel isn't dead. They watch the drone footage as it tries to locate the angel.
"Do we have the status of the target?" One general asks.
"Due to EMI, we can not ascertain its status." One of Nerv's members answers.
"The blast was massive. It couldn't have survived that." Said another general.
However, they are proven wrong when the energy readings are shown to be at ground zero. They are shocked and turn the visual feed back online to see if it's true. And it is as the visual shows the angel with only minor injuries. Gendo smirks at the general's flabbergasted looks. Now the government will turn control of this operation over to us. Gendo thought to himself.
As for Misato and Maikeru, Maikeru is starting to believe that Misato may be messed up in the head. Why? Because she stole some batteries from a nearby store to get her car running again, which was being held together by duct tape. How the hell is she a government agent? Maikeru thought to himself.
"Yes, quiet worrying. His safety is my top priority." Misato says, who is on the phone with someone.
"Just get the car train ready for us and make a direct line…That's fine…Look, I said I would get him there. Bye." Misato finally hangs up the call.
However, Maikeru wasn't really paying attention. He was more focused on what the hell that thing was, and if his father knew about it. Who am I kidding? Of course he did. He always knows about everything. Maikeru thought to himself.
As for Misato, she was worried. Not about the angel, but about her car. This is the worst! I just had this car restored and it's banged up already! It's going to cost me a fortune to fix it and I still have 33 more months before it's paid off. Plus my only decent outfit is ruined. Misato rambles in her head. Maikero notices her staring off into space.
"Uh…Are you okay?" Maikeru asks.
"Hm? Oh yes, I'm fine." Misato answers.
"You sure? You were staring off into space. Also, isn't it illegal to steal that many batteries?" Maikeru says, pointing at the batteries in the back.
"Hahaha! Don't worry. I had to get the car moving again. Besides, it was an emergency. I may not look like it, but I'm a government agent. So it's perfectly legal." Misato says.
"If you say so." Maikeru says.
Misato starts to get bored and decides to start a conversation.
"So, you lived in America before coming here, right?" Misato asks.
"Yeah. Tokyo was starting to get all chaotic with preparation for something to happen, so I went to the land of the free to start a life." Maikeru explains.
"I understand. I wish I could've gone, but my duty required me to stay here." Misato says.
"I didn' read much of your file, but don't have a brother?" Misato asks.
Maikeru stiffens when he hears this and Misato gets worried. Oh no. Did I just hit a touchy subject? Stupid Misato! Misato thought to herself.
"I…Yes, I had a brother. His name was Shinji Ikari." Maikeru somberly says.
"Did you two have a fall out, or something?" Misato asks.
"We…Look I don't want to talk about it." Maikeru says.
"I'm sorry if I brought back bad memories. I was just—"
"I said I don't want to talk about it!" Maikeru yells.
Jeez it really must be a touchy subject. Though, from what I got from the file, Shinji should be about 14 years old, which means he was born after Second impact and therefore could pilot the Eva. Yet, his 22 year old brother, who was born before Second Impact, is chosen to pilot the Eva. Did Nerv find a way for us not to use children to fight our wars, or is there another reason? Misato thought to herself as she drives into a tunnel.
At Nerv HQ, Gendo and Fuyutsuki observe the angel from drone footage.
"As we predicted, it's regenerating." Fuyutsuki says.
"Of course it is. Otherwise it would be useless as a standalone weapon." Gendo says.
Suddenly, the angel's eyes glow as it shoots a laser and destroys the drone, cutting off the footage.
"Impressive. It's able to enhance its own abilities." Fuyutsuki says.
"And it's getting smarter." Gendo adds.
"It's only a matter of time before it resumes its advance." Fuyutsuki says.
It matters little. Soon it will be dealt with and phase 1 of my plan can begin. Gendo thought to himself. While Nerv is protecting humanity, Gendo has another plan in motion. One that could be devastating.
"Gendo." One of the generals calls out to Gendo.
"As of this moment, you have command of this operation. Let's see what you can do." The general says.
"Understood, sir." Gendo says.
"Ikari, I'll admit that our ordinance is ineffective against the target. Yet you believe you can still beat it." The general says with a hint of doubt
Gendo smirks and pushes his glasses up as he says, "Nerv exists for that reason."
"Then don't let us down." The general says as he and the others leave.
Finally. Gendo thought to himself.
"If the UN has given up, what're your intentions?" Fuyutsuki asks.
Gendo remains silent before turning around and saying, "We'll activate Unit-1."
"Unit-1? But there's no pilot. Rei is injured and Shinji…we know what happened." Fuyutsuki says somberly.
"It matters little. The third child's replacement will arrive shortly." Gendo says coldly.
Misato and Maikeru finally arrive at Nerv and are entering the car train. Maikeru observes his surroundings and feels both nostalgia and fear.
"It's been a while since I last came here." Maikeru says.
"You've been here before?" Misato asks.
"Yeah. Though, it looks more high-tech than when I was last here. My old man is always trying to look superior." Maikeru says.
"So, you know what your father does?" Misato asks.
"Yeah. I knew my dad had the job of protecting humanity. Yet he never had time for either Shinji and I." Maikeru says with hate.
"So, we're going to go see him?" Maikeru asks.
"I think so." Misato answers.
Maikeru clenches his fist as he remembers the day his father left him and Shinji alone at a train station. Then hiring a teacher to take care of them. However, the teacher only did it for money, not because he cared. Maikeru knew that and so did Shinji. Then after the incident with Shinji, the teacher was found dead and Maikeru had to fend for himself. It wasn't easy, but he lived.
"Oh yeah! Did your father send you any ID forms?" Misato asks, breaking Maikeru from his thoughts.
"Yep. Along with a half assed letter." Maikeru says as he pulls out his wallet and shows his ID card.
"What exactly am I doing here at Nerv? I know my father didn't want a social call, so why does he need me?" Maikeru asks.
"You really don't like your father, huh? Guess that makes two of us." Misato says.
"You've got daddy issues?" Maikeru asks.
"Yeah. I don't really like to talk about him." Misato says.
As the car elevator goes down, they enter into a massive area where buildings are upside down and there is plant life and water at the bottom. Maikeru knew that a Geo-Front was in the works when he was younger, but it's much cooler to see it completed.
"Welcome to the Geo-Front. And directly below us is Nerv Headquarters. The key to rebuilding the world and the last bastion of humanity." Misato says.
It's beautiful. I wish you could see this, Shinji. Maikeru thought to himself.
Later in the Nerv HQ, Misato has gotten herself and Maikeru lost in the massive complex. Maikeru is doubting she knows the way because he's been keeping track of their movements and knows that they've been going in circles. They finally get on an escalator and go down to level 20.
"Are you sure this is the right way?" Maikeru asks.
"I'm positive this is the way." Misato answers.
"You sure? We've been going down the same hallway for a while." Maikeru points out.
"…Ugh. I know she is going to be pissed, but I have no choice." Misato says to herself
Later, they manage to find an elevator and start heading down. When they arrive at a certain floor, the door opens and a blonde woman is on the other side. The blonde woman gives Misato a deadpan look.
"H…Hey, Ritsuko." Misato stutters out.
"Stop messing around Capt. Katsuragi. We're short on time and manpower for your antics." Ritsuko scolds Misato.
"Sorry." Misato says, embarrassed.
Ritsuko looks over and sees Maikeru looking at his phone. Maikeru is kind of nervous to see his father, and he's also wondering if his father just hired supermodels for Nerv. You always pick the weirdest shit. Maikeru thought to himself.
"So, this is our pilot?" Ritsuko asks.
"Yep. He's Fourth Child as reported by the Marduk Institute." Misato answers.
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you." Ritsuko greets Maikeru.
"Don't I know you?" Maikeru asks.
"No. Though you did meet my mother when you were younger." Ritsuko answers.
"He resembles his father quite a lot. Only by his appearance." Misato says as Maikeru just grits his teeth. He hated people saying he looked like his father.
In the command center, Gendo and Fuyutsuki are overseeing the operation. Suddenly, Gendo starts to walk away.
"Where are you going?" Fuyutsuki asks.
"The Fourth Child has arrived. I'll leave you in charge till I return." Gendo answers as he leaves.
"…10 whole years since they last saw each other." Fuyutsuki remarks.
"Sub-Commander, the target has begun to move again." One of Nerv's officers informs him.
"Very well. All personnel to condition one battle stations." Fuyutsuki orders the other officers.
Ritsuko and Misato hear the announcement for everyone to go to their battle stations over the radio. Misato, upon hearing the announcement, grows more concerned. The angel is already back up again? Hopefully we can beat it before it destroys Tokyo-3. Misato thought to herself.
"What's the state of Unit-1?" Misato asks, failing to see Maikeru freeze at the mention of the name.
"It's in type-B configuration while being cooled down." Ritsuko answers.
"Is that thing even operational? It hasn't worked once, right?" Misato asks.
"Success is 0.000000001%. Somebody already named it 09 system." Ritsuko jokes as Misato giggles at the joke.
Maikeru simply is scared for his life. Why? Why do you want me to go into the thing that killed Mother? Are you doing this to get rid of me, Father? Maikeru thought to himself.
"So, it doesn't work?" Misato asks.
"Oh come now. It's not exactly 0." Ritsuko says.
"Sure. Numerically, I guess. Well, unfortunately we don't have the luxury of failure anymore." Misato says as they arrive at a door.
They enter the room and it is pitch black. Maikeru is about to say something when lights come on to reveal the thing Maikeru hoped he would never see again. Evangelion Unit-1. It doesn't look different from how he remembered it. With its reptilian-like face, large skinny body, shoulder pylons, and the green and purple color scheme.
"Maikeru, this is the ultimate weapon. The ultimate man-made multi purpose decisive combat weapon. The artificial human—"
"Evangelion Unit-1." Maikeru cuts Ritsuko off.
"Wait. You know what it is? I don't think I told you about it." Misato says.
"My parents made it. I saw it when I was kid, and when it killed my mother." Maikeru says with anger.
Ritsuko is a little shocked. It was to be expected. Unlike Shinji, who wouldn't even remember the incident, Maikeru was 11 when his mother died. So of course he would remember. Which will make it more difficult to get him in the Eva. Ritsuko thought to herself.
"You want me to pilot the Eva. Don't you?" Maikeru asks as he looks at Ritsuko.
"That is correct." Gendo's voice suddenly says.
Maikeru looks above the Eva to see his father looking at him through a glass window in a control center of sorts. "Father." Maikeru says with anger. He clenches his fist as he stares daggers at his father, who in return doesn't even acknowledge it.
"Launch the Eva." Gendo suddenly orders.
"Launch the Eva? But Unit-0 is still grounded." Misato says, but soon realizes which Eva they were talking about.
"Wait, you can't mean Unit-1." Misatio says.
"We have no other choice." Ritsuko says.
"But, Rei is in no shape to pilot! We have no other pilots." Misato points out.
"One has just arrived." Ritsuko says, inferring to Maikeru.
"Maikeru Ikari. You will be its pilot." Ritsuko says.
"What?! You can't be serious?!" Maikeru yells.
"It took Rei 7 months to synchronize with an Eva. Maikeru just got here and we don't know if it'll work. He is an adult and we can't be sure of what will happen." Misato says.
"It's worth the risk. We have no other option. Our number 1 priority is defeating the angels. For that reason, any pilot even capable of synchronizing with the Eva's must try. No matter their age." Ritsuko explains.
"You should understand that, Captain Katsuragi." Ritsuko says, as Misato looks down.
"You called me here to pilot this thing?!" Maikeru yells at his father.
"Yes." Gendo answers in a cold tone.
"NO! Why in hell would you think I would ever get inside the thing that killed my mother?!" Maikeru yells.
"Because it's the reason I brought you here. I finally needed you, so I sent for you." Gendo says.
"Of course you had a need for me. That's all Shinji and I were to you. Just tools you may one day need. You never bothered to call us, or send letters, or even see us in person." Maikeru says with anger.
"It was of no concern to me." Gendo says.
"NO CONCERN?! So not even Shinji's death concerned you?!" Maikeru yells, shocking Misato at the news.
His brother is…dead? Misato thought to herself. It explained why Maikeru refused to talk about Shinji. It was because his brother was dead.
"Stop wasting time! Either get in the Eva, or get out!" Gendo yells with irritation.
"And what if I leave? Huh?! I could simply leave and you can use the other pilot. Rei, was it? Why doesn't she pilot it?!" Maikeru yells.
Gendo simply narrows his eyes as he calls Fuyutsuki. "Fuyutsuki, wake up Rei." Gendo orders.
"In her condition?" Fuyutsuki questions.
"She's not dead." Gendo says as the call is cut off.
The door opens and a few doctors roll in a bandaged up girl. Maikeru sees her blue hair, pale skin, and red eyes and is immediately creeped out. But, the girl somehow looked familiar. He just couldn't put his tongue on it.
"Rei, the spare isn't working. You must pilot the Eva." Gendo orders the girl, Rei.
"Tsk! You're really going to try to make me feel sorry, aren't you?!" Maikeru yells at his father.
"It's either you pilot, or she dies trying. And do you really want more blood on your hands?" Gendo asks
Maikeru freezes at this remark. He…He knows? Maikeru thought to himself. Gendo simply smirks. Though it would be more difficult to control his oldest son compared to Shinji, he still could manipulate his emotions.
Suddenly, the ground shakes and knocks everyone on their feet. Rei falls off her bed and Maikeru instantly runs over to her. Some pieces of the roof fell towards them. Maikeru covers Rei, but nothing happens. Maikeru looks up and sees Unit-1's hand over his head as it shields him. Gendo simply smirks, knowing full well who did that.
"That's impossible! The Eva's entry plug isn't even inserted. It can't move on its own!" Ritsuko yells in shock.
Misato realizes that the Eva was protecting Maikeru. Does it have a connection to him? Misato thought to herself.
"This is your last chance, Maikeru. Will you pilot, or will you let her die?" Gendo asks.
Maikeru is conflicted. He wants to leave, but he can't let this girl die if he can help it. Looking at her, he knows she won't last long against the angel. So, he'll do it to make sure she doesn't hurt. And besides, he wants to rectify the mistake he made so long ago. "...I'll pilot it." Maikeru gives in.
Maikeru is currently sitting in the entry plug of the Eva. Just sitting in this thing reminds him of what happened to his mother. He is praying that he doesn't share the same fate. He feels the entry plug move, signaling that it's going inside of the Eva right now.
When the entry plug connects, multiple colors flash in the entry plug and then it stops as he can finally see. Suddenly, he hears a woman's voice from the coms saying, "Flooding entry plug."
"Wait, what?!" Maikeru yells as the entry plug is being filled with an orange liquid.
"What is this?!" Maikeru yells, but no one answers.
The plug is filled up and Maikeru tries to hold his breath.
"Relax, Maikeru. Allow the liquid to fill your lungs. Oxygen will transfer completely to your bloodstream. You'll get used to it." Ritsuko explains.
Maikeru is hesitant, but gives in and breathes in the liquid. He can breathe, but the liquid tastes horrible. Oh god! I think I'm going to be sick! Maikeru thought to himself. He just sucks it up, due to not wanting to look like a fool.
"Initiating level 2 contact." A female voice says.
Suddenly, the entry plug starts flashing with multiple colors again before returning to normal. So, what now— "AAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!" Maikeru screams in pain.
"What's happening?!" Misato yells.
"I don't know! But I'm getting readings that suggest that his brain is being attacked!" The young woman, Maya, informs.
It feels like someone is tearing into my brain! Maikeru thought to himself in pain. Suddenly, the pain stops and Maikeru breathes heavily.
"It's stopped? Is Maikeru alright?" Misato asks.
"Pilot is alive. And…he's completely synchronized with the Eva! It worked!" Maya announces as everyone is happy.
They are happy that humanity now has a fighting chance. However, Maikeru is wondering what just hit him. Suddenly, he feels as if arms are wrapping around him, but no one is there. He doesn't know why, but this feeling makes him feel…warm. Like someone is comforting him.
"Unit-1, prepare for launch!" Misato yells, pulling Maikeru out of his thoughts.
Maikeru gets ready for what is about to happen next. He feels the Eva move before suddenly stopping. "LAUNCH EVA!" Misato yells as Eva Unit-1 is launched up. Maikeru tries to hold in his lunch as he is shot up through a hatch.
Up on the surface, the angel continues its assault when a hatch on the ground and Unit-1 appears. Maikeru can now see the angel in front of him. Maikeru knows that humanity is depending on him. I will protect humanity, or die trying. For you, Shinji. Maikeru thought to himself.
(Note: So, here is my new story. This was an original story I had in mind for a Fnaf crossover. As I was rewatching Evangelion, I noticed that they have similar things in common. That being the main character being related to the main villain, and the main robots of the series are possessed by ghosts. However, don't expect Freddy and gang to appear because the Eva's already serve that purpose. And if you're wondering, Maikeru is Japanese for Michael. Anyway, I am expecting a lot of people to hate this, but I hope you enjoy it.)
