Author's Note
I didn't give Sharptooth a proper name, because I felt I couldn't think of one for a great antagonist such as him.
Red Claw, the meanest Sharptooth in the Mysterious Beyond. Other sharpteeth run at the sight of him. But he knows he could never live up to the reputation of his deceased brother. How Red Claw despised him.
Before he got his scar and red claw, he was simply called Claws. His parents were great to him and his brother, but also soft hearted. Other sharpteeth would laugh at his father for how much of a pushover he was. Not only a pushover, but a coward too. He would often try to avoid fights. As for food, he preferred to scavenge rather than hunt. It was something Claws and his brother would never forget.
And his mother, she could fight and hunt, but she was very sociable, something else unusual for a Sharptooth. She had a friend who was a fact biter whom helped her hunt. Claws would meet her sons. Thud and Screech. Claws found them fun to play with. His brother tried to eat them. Claws had to fend them off until their parents arrived. When they did, he had a scar that went from his left eye to his claw. The yellow eye was red.
His own brother showed no remorse for the damage that would be there for the rest of his life. It was then he would change his name to Red Claw as a reminder. And that was when he hated his brother. He would never forgive him. They were never close to begin with, but it was this that turned them into hated enemies. Their mother would try to repair the damage, but there was nothing she could do. Their father would simply try to avoid being involved in the conflict.
There was something that Red Claw and his brother continued to agree on, they hated the embarrassment he was. And even then, it was for different reasons. Red Claw while hating his weakness, continued to love his father. His brother loathed their father.
As years went by, Red Claw would make a name for himself. He would become feared and respected. But he was second to his brother. His brother who was stronger and meaner. His brother who could scare many, simply by mentioning him. Red Claw would not call him brother any longer, or his proper name, only Sharptooth.
His brother regarded Red Claw himself as soft and weak for using Thud and Screech to help him hunt. He continued to be friends with the 2 biters, although none of them admitted it was a friendship. They also benefited from working together. Thud and Screech used not only their smarts, but were Red Claw's eyes. The old Sharptooth had poorer eye sight since that day.
Many nights, he would dream of killing Sharptooth. He would even use it as a tactic against other sharpteeth that challenged him. He would pretend he was fighting him.
But Red Claw knew it was only a dream. He would always be second, compared to him. He would always be trapped in his shadow.
Then one day, news spread through the Mysterious Beyond of Sharptooth's death. How he drowned, how he killed beaten by children. By small leaf eaters. Yet this news didn't make Red Claw happy. Children could do what he couldn't. They killed his brother. Children had a privilege that should have been his. Death by drowning, Red Claw felt he should have gotten something way worse.
With his brother out of the way, he would become the meanest Sharptooth. He would try to live up to the reputation. But Sharptooth continued to be remembered. Even getting killed by kids didn't ruin his reputation. His name would continue to bring fear. Red Claw knew he could never enjoy a Sharptooth free word with that. Then one day Red Claw decided to do something that not even his ex-brother could accomplish. Kill the children that killed Sharptooth. Red Claw would mock Sharptooth's memory. Show himself and the world that Sharptooth wasn't that brilliant.
Only they turned out to be more difficult than he thought. And worse, they turned out to be friends with a little sharptooth he despised. Chomper.
He found the little biter worse than his own father was. He had a soft spot for leaf eaters. Red Claw could not let a serious problem like this go unaddressed. The irony wasn't lost on him. Sharptooth consider him weak for his friendships and now he was doing the same to Chomper.
They would keep escaping him but Red Claw wouldn't quit. They would have to put him down. He will not give up until someone is.
