December 14, 1996

She made it. After 3 long years, she had finally made it. In her sights was the meteor set to hit Earth in 3 years that would destroy all life on the planet. Battra was originally supposed to stop it, but now she would have to be the one to do it. She briefly thought back to Earth. The last time she had interacted with the planet was when she sent the Cosmos and Fairy Mothra to warn of the approaching "Spacegodzilla" in 1995. She hoped that he or the real Godzilla hadn't destroyed humanity during her time away.

Mothra's thoughts quickly refocused back on the meteor, which strangely didn't look like a meteor at all, but instead a giant blue diamond. The giant divine moth fired her antenna beams and arc lightning at the meteor with full force, hoping to either destroy it or push it away from Earth. However, to Mothra's shock, the meteor was completely unfazed by her attacks.

She kept trying to blast at it, but it simply kept going. Eventually, it collided with her, forcing her to attempt to stop it with her claws. The divine moth struggled and strained against the meteor, having quickly realized that this was no ordinary meteor. Whatever was inside this would undoubtedly destroy the world. The Cosmos then emerged out of her, beginning to sing to power their goddess.

(Imagine Haora Mosura from Rebirth of Mothra 3 playing)

With a final tremendous burst of power, Mothra let out a loud shriek and sent the meteor flying away, thousands and thousands of miles away from Earth. As soon as the meteor was out of sight, Mothra let out the closest thing she could to an exhausted sigh. She hadn't expected the meteor to be that durable. She shook her head and turned around. Now that the mission was done, she needed to head home.

Unfortunately, with how exhausted she was from deflecting the meteor, it would likely take an extra year or 2 to return to Earth. She hoped there was still a planet when she got back. Just to make sure, she began concentrating. Just like what happened in 1995, dozens of telepathic "fairy mothras" emerged from her back, beginning to fly down to Earth.

They were nothing but mere telepathic illusions, and would inform the human Miki Saegusa of the success of Mothra stopping the meteor once they arrived to Earth. The giant divine moth herself then began following behind them, beginning her long trek back to Earth.

Meanwhile, the meteor spun around and around, heading light years away from Earth. Eventually though, long after leaving Earth's solar system, the meteor stopped. It then burst into multicolored pieces in a tremendous explosion, revealing a blue-green 120 meter techno-organic kaiju with scythe hands, a buzzsaw in its abdomen, and a red visor in place of its eyes.

The kaiju recollected itself, shaking its head and tapping into their kind's shared hivemind. Using it, he managed to reach his master. Their creators referred to him as Gigan Rex, while he and his other kin were referred to as Gigan Miles.

"Master, I have run into an issue."

"What is it?"

"I was unable to reach the target."

"Explain."

"I was repelled by an unknown object."

"What system were you heading towards?"

"The Coppernacian system."

"The Coppernician system? I recall that being where we were created by the Nebulans and Seatopians."

"Is that so, master?"

"Yes. iI is likely that it was the guardian beast Mothra that deflected you from the Earth. I and the rest of our kind are close by. Head back to that planet and we will follow you."

"Yes, Master."

The Gigan Miles then lit up, gaining a blue aura that formed around him into a blue diamond. The diamond then began rushing back towards the Earth, several other diamonds flying behind it. However, due to time dilation, it would be a quarter of a century before a Gigan would set foot on the Earth.

And unbeknownst to anyone, a newly revived kaiju lay at the bottom of the ocean floor, waiting…

Author's Note: Yo, it's the Meme Warrior here. This chapter is really short, but it's mostly intended to be set up for the main fanfic. There is a disgusting lack of Gigan Rex representation in these Godzilla fanfics, so I've taken it upon myself to write an "Expansion" of G vs G and Godzilla vs Gigan Rex, filling in the gaps and fully establishing it as the continuation of the heisei/VS series that many Godzilla fans, including myself, believe it to be. Next chapter will jump us ahead to 2021, and set up the main story. See you all then!
