A/N: I wasn't completely sure how to take Greg and his emotional state at this point in this one and what had all transpired between him and Melanie and how things came to be and ended. But this is what was in my head and how it came about. Some of it slightly odd to me but I hope you enjoy it.

A week had passed since their outing to the movies. Sara found a few small things to keep his mind preoccupied, like painting and hiking but it still ended up the same. Once Sara left the room he'd end up in a ball, Melanie's menacing words turning him into a broken shell.
So, Greg, wanting to give Sara a much-needed reprieve from him and his up and down moods, took to staying with Nick, at least for a day or two. He knew his moods were wearing on Sara but no matter what he said to push her away, stood firm, determined to be there to help him through.
"Hey G, how you doing?" Nick yawned, stepping into the living room. Greg sat on his couch, controller in hand.
"I don't know…" Thinking a moment, Greg sighed. "I think I'm ruining Sara."
Nick's eyes bugged hearing those words come from his mouth. "What are you talking about?"
"Every time I think I'm getting better…something happens and it's a 180 back the other way…and I know I'm burdening Sara when it happens…its wearing on her and she doesn't need to go through what I do…she shouldn't…"
Taking it all in, Nick nodded. "So, what is it you don't want her to go through…what happens?"
As the words came from the Texan, a Melanie mirage appeared before Greg's eyes, blocking the TV, a snarky smirk at her lips, his belt in her hands. Clenching his eyes shut, Greg tried to block Melanie's form from his mind, shaking his head and breathing heavily. "I can't…I can't tell you man…sorry."
This was the first time Nick had really seen Greg affected. It had been nearly three months since they had found Greg after Melanie had taken him and his actions made it seem like it was just yesterday. "Well, if you can to me or Sara…don't hesitate."
Melanie, still there before him, snapped the belt like he remembered making him shake. "I will." Biting his lip, Greg's eyes dropped to the floor. This was the first time Melanie had appeared before him in front of someone else and that scared him because he wasn't sure if his tactic of sleeping would still push her away.
"Hey man you hungry?"
"Umm…yeah." Melanie had disappeared for now, but it was only a matter of time before she was back. "Sure." Turning on the game, he had on before, trying to use that to block out his ex-girlfriend's phantom form. Maybe he did need therapy. No…if he couldn't talk to his friends then there was no way he could talk to a stranger. There was no way he was going to let this woman be the end of him.
"Pizza is on its way."
"Thanks."

Greg had stayed one more night with Nick before heading back to Sara's. Thankfully he had not had a sighting of Melanie since the other day and that made him hopeful, he wouldn't see her again.
Stepping into Sara's apartment he wasn't surprised to find Sara sound asleep with her head on the back of the couch. What did throw him was all of the sheets of listings on either side of her computer.
Sitting down next to her, Greg couldn't help the smile that came to his face, seeing her soft easy breaths as she slept. Before he could stop himself, he pulled the hair that lay across her face behind her ear, his fingertips gliding across her forehead, causing her to stir.
"Hey." Sara smiled upon seeing him, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "How was Nick's?"
"It was…okay." Clearing his throat, he turned back to the table. "So, what's all this?"
"I…umm have been looking for a different place…for us." She finished slowly eyeing him waiting for a response.
"Different place?" He questioned, confused, this apartment seemed pretty nice to him. "What's wrong with this place?"
Resituating herself on the couch, Sara leaned toward him sighing. "After Melanie took you from here…I haven't felt comfortable."
That was not the answer he was expecting. It's always been her apartment; he had been here a few days before he was taken. He wasn't sure what to make of it, so he stuttered. "Oh."
"And I was thinking…" She started, turning toward him, nervously biting her lip. "…that we could get a new place…as friends." She added quickly, knowing he still wasn't ready for more.
"I…" His words were cut off by a heated giggle, Melanie's phantom form sitting across from them. 'Aww she wants you two to move in together. Maybe you could jump her bones…I'd like to watch.' Greg shivered, seeing the fire in Melanie's eyes, a sickening smile on her face.
"Greg?" Sara asked, placing a hand on his leg, giving it a squeeze to bring his attention back to her.
'Oh, looky there she's close enough to jacking you off…just a few inches….'
Overwhelmed by the back and forth, Sara's hand and Melanie's words Greg jumped off the couch nearly knocking Sara over as he snapped. "Yeah, that's fine…sure…excuse me."
Greg bolted to the bathroom before Sara could respond, leaving her shocked. Nothing was out of the ordinary with their interaction, so Sara wasn't sure what brought on his reaction.
Reaching the bathroom Greg slammed the door closed, locking it behind him. As if the lock would keep Melanie out anyway. He knew Sara still had feelings for him and that was hard to wrap his mind around. But Melanie knew too, she'd speculated when they were still a couple, and if he remotely showed warmth to the brunette, he'd pay for it. But it was the night he was taken that she actually saw the short lip lock him, and Sara had shared.
How she found where Sara lived or that that was his sanctuary after he got out of the hospital, he wasn't sure. But once Sara excused herself in embarrassment, he was alone for all of five minutes mulling his feelings when there was a knock on the door. He regretted it immediately, finding Melanie on the other side. She had forced him to an unknown building, demanding he strip and get on the dilapidated bed Brass found him clinging to life on.
Her words were sinister and every chance she could, she would throw Sara's name in. If his body reacted or if he showed any emotion for the brunette, he'd get lashings or burns until he complied. She had even gone so far as forcing him to fuck her as if she was Sara, saying words that forced his eyes to believe his imagination that Sara was with him, but his brain knew otherwise.
But still he knew after Melanie's torture, if Sara tried to get close again, even to kiss him, he didn't know what he'd see or feel. But now with phantom Melanie stalking him, coaxing him the way she used to, he didn't know what to do.
He just wanted his life to be normal again and for Melanie to be out of his life forever.
Greg nearly jumped, a foot in the air at the sudden knock on the door. "Hey Greg, you, okay?" Sara's voice through the door soothed him and scared at the same time.
"Umm…yeah I'm fine." He cringed at the tenseness in his voice.
"Well, I was planning to check out some of these houses and apartments… do you want to come with?" The hope in her voice made his heart jump. Pushing her off was becoming increasingly more difficult but it didn't help that a part of him wanted to pull her closer but then that would risk Melanie returning assaulting his mind the same way she had assaulted him physically.
"Umm…yeah sure. I'll be out in a minute."
"Ok I'll be in the living room." He sighed, hearing the smile in her tone. This was going to be too hard, especially if Melanie made another appearance.
"Ok."
It took him nearly ten minutes before he came back out to the living room. "Let's go."

They had seen four places already, as they arrived at their fifth.
Greg sighed wearily; he was getting tired of walking. Most of the places weren't bad but nothing jumped out at him, and Sara didn't look pleased.
"What do you think?" Sara smiled, stepping up to him, grabbing his hand. Squeezing his hand her smile grew, her eyes taking in the small house again. "Its nice right?"
Swallowing his tongue Greg nodded. Sara's proximity was becoming daunting, her hand still holding onto his. "Yeah." Even as the word came out of his mouth, he felt her presence. Melanie's eyes bored into his back. 'This place is perfect. You can throw her against that wall and fuck her.' At Melanie's growl, Greg pulled his hand from Sara's, moving across the room to the kitchen.
Taking a breath Greg tried to calm himself down. He had no place to run to rid himself of Melanie and her words. "Greg you, okay?" Sara was back again, her hand resting on his shoulder, turning him to face her.
Seeing her smile, he tried to return it until he saw Melanie step up behind the brunette, a smirk at her lips. 'Go ahead…kiss her I know you want to.' Closing his eyes to block her out, Greg nodded, answering shakily. "Yeah, I'm fine…this place is perfect."
"I think so too…" Sara grinned, before she could stop herself, she pressed her lips gently into his cheek. "I'll go talk to the owner."
Greg closed his eyes at the contact trying to control his breathing. It was becoming crazy each new action she did, but Melanie's phantom remarks held him back. Like now, she sat in one of her sexy poses on the island, her lips perched in a pout. 'Don't forget what I beat into you Gregory.' Closing his eyes again he willed her to leave. She was already dead, why couldn't she let him live?
"Hey…" Sara started, causing him to jump, his eyes moving to her. "We got it. He said we can move in next week." She finished grinning until she noticed his stoic form. "You sure your okay Greg?"
Exhausted Greg nodded, his thumb pointing to the door. "I'm alright. Can we head back?"
Nodding herself, Sara smiled, leading him to the door. "Of course. Come on." She was dying to know what it was that was wrong with him. Because to her it seemed as if she remotely got close to him, he'd become skittish, running away like a scared child. But she was never mean or berated him for any reason. She didn't need to; he didn't do anything wrong. Maybe she could find a way for him to tell her, if only to help him.
Settling in the driver's seat Sara sighed. As she turned the car over, she found her eyes drawn to him. He sat leaning against the door, almost as far from her as he could be, but what caught her attention was his eyes, every other minute they would bounce from the window to her, sometimes lingering for a full minute before they jumped back. If he knew she'd seen the action he didn't say anything, for Sara, however, when she knew his eyes were on her, her heart sped up a bit.
Putting the car into drive, she drove them back to her apartment. "Did you want to grab anything?"
Smiling slightly at her offer he shook his head, displacing it slightly so he faced her a little more. "No, I just want to crash."
Glancing at him Sara nodded, her heart in her throat as she caught his eye for a brief moment. "Okay." She knew he still wasn't ready to be with anyone since Melanie and her horrendous actions but every time they had moments like that, she felt like maybe that might change.
Once they got back, Greg announced. "I'm gonna go lay down. It okay if I take the bed?"
Smiling at his question Sara chuckled. "Of course." Watching him walk down the hall she couldn't help the nervous laugh that escaped her at his behavior. In the entire time he had stayed with her that was the first time he actually asked to use her bed instead of taking it or her pulling him there herself.
Turning around she focused on picking up her mess from earlier. Once that was done, she looked around to do or clean, upon finding none she found herself drawn to her room.
Stopping in her doorway she found herself entranced by his sleeping form. It looked as if he was asleep before his head hit the pillow, his head laying half off of it as his body lay splayed across two thirds of it.
Taking steps to the open part of the bed, Sara eased down, holding her breath as she waited for him to move. When he didn't, she went further, lying against the open pillow. Turning to her side to face him. She studied him the way she did evidence. When her hand traced his cheek slightly, he moved a bit but didn't wake, his hand out from under the blanket to a more comfortable spot. Smiling, she moved a bit closer, her hand moved atop his before closing her eyes herself.
When Greg woke up, he was startled to find Sara on the bed, laying within an inch of him on her back, his right hand was intertwined with her left, sitting on a bare patch of her left hip. He could very easily slide over her and press his lips to hers waking her in a way he always wanted, he thought alone sent his pulse racing.
'I knew you wanted her.' Melanie snickered, from her position across from him, her arms crossed at her chest. 'With me here that won't happen…' She trailed off before finishing her position behind his ear. 'I'll put you in a mental ward before I let you touch that bitch the way you touched me.'
Growling Greg eased his hand from Sara's, careful not to wake her. Before grabbing his shoes and moving from the room. He was starting to feel claustrophobic. The more he felt closer to Sara, the harder Melanie would push him, remind him of what she could do to him and as much as he tried to remind himself that she wasn't physically there to do the damage, it still felt like it to him.
He craved the comfort Sara tried offering to him daily but every time he accepted it, Melanie would bombard him, even in his dreams.
Closing the apartment door, he rubbed his eyes tiredly.
He felt like he was losing his mind.
