Hello everyone and welcome to my second story. During 2020, the year of Covid, I tried my hand at writing and published my first Fic, Metal like Roses. It was a good start, I think, and I can see how far I have come since then, but around 16 chapters in, I wanted to try something new. I know it is cliche, but I wanted to put one of my favorite heroes into a universe about them. My Mistborn Academia started off as a... writing challenge, more or less. It was to help me learn how to juggle so many different characters than I was used to by this point. And, like Brandon himself with Alloy of Law, I just couldn't stop.\

So I would like to introduce you all to My Mistborn Academia. Yeah, cliche with the whole My _ Academia thing, but it's a cliche because it works. I really hope you all enjoy this story as much as you like Metal like Roses. Or, if this is your first of my works, welcome! Thanks for tuning it. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun :)

So read on, warriors!

A Hero's Calling

Vin never wanted to be a hero. At first, all she wanted was to survive; to live another day without a random skaa trying to steal her crumbs of bread. Without worrying that a passing nobleman would take her into his chambers, use her, and kill her afterward. Then she wanted to understand. She wanted to know what she was, what a Mistborn was. To know what it was like to believe in something, in someone.

But all Vin wanted to do now was protect the ones she loved. Especially the man now bleeding out at her feet.

"Elend!" Vin screamed, dropping to the floor. She grabbed his head and held it still, trying to ignore how obvious the tin beating inside of her made his face look pale. She pulled off her mistcloak, a bundle of strands and ribbons that connected around her neck, and pressed it into his side. There was no weapon - no knife that she could see, just the arm of the mist spirit she had thought could be trusted.

It stood there, unmoving since it sliced its hand across Elend's stomach and left a dark, red stain. Over the last few weeks, she had thought the mist spirit could be trusted. That it could be an ally.

But Vin was wrong again. Her trust was misplaced. Except for Elend.

Elend gasped and coughed, small drops of spittle turning red on his white outfit. She stroked his head. "I can save you," she whispered.

In front of them lay the Well of Ascension, a pool of power that could, hypothetically, give someone the powers of a god. The Lord Ruler used it centuries ago and it has slowly refilled since then. If he could use it to stop the Deepness, she could use it to save Elend.

"I'll be right back," she whispered, laying Elend down gently. Vin walked over to the Well and stepped into its shining waters. It was like molten metal, but cool to the touch. Every step she made brought her closer to its center and she could feel the power scraping across her skin. As her head submerged, and she found herself capable of breathing under the level, Vin's earring burned and she frantically pulled it out.

As it sank to the Well's depths, Vin ascended. Her mind expanded and her body became meaningless. She became the power itself. She became a GOD!

No, a piece of a god…

Vin 'looked' around and saw Elend on the ground, knowing the wound could easily be healed with a flick of her hand. She could see realms beyond her own, one of cognition and one of spiritual investiture. The mist wraith, his form was sharper. A man but most of his body was turning to mist, like he was the last of what was once a great sculpture before it fell into ruin.

Ruin…

The mist spirit watched her and Vin felt as if it was full of pity and sadness. It didn't want to hurt Elend, but it had to.

Why? Vin wondered.

She prepared to take the power into herself and use it as she wished. To save Elend. To save her friends. To save Luthadel. But as she looked into Elend's eyes, she realized that she couldn't. She wasn't supposed to accept the power like the Lord Ruler. She had to let the power go. Let it save the world - stop the Deepness.

And let the man she loved die.

Vin cried. I can't. His eyes lost their sharp focus and her heart shattered. Vin screamed and let the power free. Vin heard a voice as loud as thunder scream "I am FREE!" as everything went dark as ash.

Izuku Midoriya always wanted to be a Hero. Ever since he was a child, he dreamed of becoming someone important. Someone to save others. A hero like All Might.

That was why he was here on this beach, training his body. All Might had warned him that his body wasn't strong enough yet. They had to keep to a strict schedule of training, eating, and studying. After all, he was Quirkless. And if he wanted to get into UA High, the most prestigious Hero school ever, he would need one. It was the same school that All Might, his idol and mentor, went to years ago. The same one everyone tried to get into. Midoriya needed to work hard for it if he wanted the chance to attend UA.

And All Might said he would. With a Quirk.

It was a beautiful night as Midoriya did his best to clean away every piece of trash on the beach. There were refrigerators, pieces of cars, and bottles. Midoriya was to clear away every bit of it before the exams started, which was in just a few weeks.

There was a rhythm to it. The breeze, the water, the stars, and the occasional thump of a near-bursting trash bag. It put Midoriya in a zen-like trance as he worked. Like usual, he imagined what it would be like if he was a Pro-Hero. Tonight, he imagined an interview on a show about charity.

" So what was it like training under All Might, the previous number one hero?"

"It was very enlightening. We spent ten months working on my Quirk and its usefulness in helping the public."

"Really? Were there any problems with that?"

"Actually, at one point a random girl appeared in a flash of light."

Wait. Midoriya had been flipping over the remnants of a TV screen when a bright light blinded him. WHAT?!

He quickly covered his eyes and looked away. Is it someone's Quirk? Midoriya wondered as the light dulled. When he turned back, the light was gone and a woman had taken its place. She hovered in the air for a moment, like she was lying down, and fell onto the sand with a thud. Midoriya rushed over to her. Was she a Pro-Hero? He had never seen her before. Her features and attire (short hair, all-black clothing, and no shoes) didn't match any that he knew. Maybe if he went to go get his journals… No. She needs my help!

Midoriya reached out to help pick her up but froze when he noticed the steam - or was that mist? - coming off her body. "Are you okay?"

She didn't respond.

When he checked for a pulse - her skin was steaming, but wasn't hot to touch - her eyes flashed open and they were a brilliant white. Midoriya couldn't focus on that for long, however, but the girl spun around him and twisted his arm behind his back. He ate sand and sputtered "Ow, ow, ow! I'm sorry! I was just trying to help."

Tears formed in his eyes and his fantasy of being a Pro-Hero was replaced with an orange Tartarus jumpsuit and the words 'assaulter' on his chest. There goes my chances of being a hero.

Then, suddenly, her grip loosened and she collapsed once again. When he turned around, she was on her back with tears streaming down her face and her hands clutching her chest.

Who is she? I don't recognize her. If there was one thing he knew, it was Quirks and Pro-Heroes. He kept records on every up-and-coming Hero - Mount Lady being one of the newest. Her Quirk allowed her to… Wait, what's this girl's Quirk?

Quirks were, in the olden days called, superpowers. They gave people unique abilities that many people could, after training and licensing, use to help others. But was this girl's Quirk teleportation? Or did it have to do with the steam rolling off her body?

Maybe it is an effect of her Quirk. If the jump requires a lot of energy, maybe this is how it is expended. I've never heard of a teleportation Quirk like this, though. The record is held by Miss Place, with almost sixteen meters between the two distances. Maybe she turns into mist then? Or maybe-

Midoriya shook his head. This wasn't the time at all for analysis. This was a time for action! He quickly pulled out his phone, sent an urgent text to his hero, and waited. Within minutes, there was an explosion of sand and sea spray in front of him.

"I AM HERE!" a loud voice cried out from the plume. All Might stepped out of the cloud with a smile on his face and a hero's stride. He wore a tight, white t-shirt that showed his Herculean body, as well as green cargo pants and white sneakers. A trenchcoat was in his arm and a hat in his other hand. Even as he stepped out from the cloud, there was a shadow across his face, keeping all but his smile hidden. And last, but definitely not least, two tufts of golden hair jutted upward like antennae.

Midoriya felt a thrill fill his entire body. He still hadn't gotten used to meeting the Number One Hero of Japan.

"Young Midoriya," All Might greeted. "What is the emergency?"

"I- I- I- I thought she was a Pro-Hero and got hurt," he explained, pointing at the unconscious girl. "But I don't recognize her."

"Neither do I. Hmmm. However, I will get her the help she needs." All Might slowly lifted the woman and held her in his arms. "Goodnight young Midoriya, I shall return later to talk about next week's fitness schedule!"

"Shouldn't I come too? To take my report and statement?"

All Might paused then slowly turned around.

"You forgot, didn't you?" Midoriya asked, a droplet of sweat visible on his face.

"No, no, no," he stuttered as he waved a hand back and forth in front of himself. "I was…waiting to see if you would ask. Yes! It was a test to see if you remembered the emergency procedure."

Midoriya looked down at his feet and felt his eyes fill up with tears. "You were testing me? Did I pass? Or did I fail? Oh, I'm never going to be a Hero." His tears began to make a pool in the sand. It only stopped when he felt a hand land on his shoulder.

"You are fine, young Midoriya. You have passed my test." He gave Midoriya a different kind of smile than the one he usually uninformed. It was warmer and more personal, not like the proud display he put on to face danger. "You will make a great Pro-Hero one day. I know this. Now-" All Might turned around and crouched for Midoriya to jump onto his back "- let us away!"

Wrapping his arms around the Pro-Hero's neck (and careful not to touch his stylized hair), Midoriya asked, "What hospital are you going to take her to?"

All Might put a hand on the ground as he prepared to jump. "Who said anything about a hospital? Tell me, Midoriya, how would you like to visit UA?"

The heart in his chest exploded in excitement. UA? Now?! It was a dream come true to walk those halls. Well, it would be a dream come true to attend the Hero school but it would still be an amazing opportunity to-

Midoriya shook his head to knock out the rambling in his mind. "Yes!"

"Then up, up, and away we go!" All Might declared before leaping upward and into the night sky.

Nezu was enjoying a nice cup of tears when he heard the familiar rumble of a certain hero bounding towards his school. Thanks to his Quirk, Enhanced Senses, he was well aware of which direction All Might was coming from and, with a quick mental calculation, where he would be landing. Judging by the booming of his lands and their echoes off certain buildings and directions, Nezu realized that his destination was (with 98.4 percent accuracy) Recovery Girl's on-campus accommodations.

After taking one last sip of his beverage, Nezu jumped down from his chair and started making his way there too. If All Might was rushing over to her specifically, something must have happened. Perhaps his injury had gotten worse? Or maybe it was a routine check-up.

UA High was dead quiet. With the spring semester ending a few weeks ago, there was almost nobody here. The classrooms were all empty and the hallways only had a dim, barely necessary, light to see with. With the exception of a few staff members, Nezu practically had his entire school to himself. However, some areas were designated to others, like Recovery Girl's medical wing.

It took three more thumps before Nezu reached her door. By now, any normal person could hear it and his knock matched perfectly with a fourth 'boom'. The door swung open, wearing only slippers and a bathrobe.

Nezu squeaked in terror. The elderly Pro-Hero looked down. "What's all that racket?" she asked.

Not a check-up then. Composing himself, he turned toward a hallway window and was shocked to see another staff member standing there. Aizawa, the Pro-Hero known as Eraser Head. "We're you awoken as well?"

"Hard not to with all the hoise," Aizawa grumbled. There was another thump as if to prove his point even further.

Nezu nodded. "I am afraid you might be having visitors soon, Shuzenji."

The aging woman raised an eyebrow. "And who is stupid enough to get injured at this hour?"

The building shook as they heard the last 'boom!' just outside the window. The two Pro's stumbled but Nezu remained composed. "I AM HERE!" a voice bellowed.

"Of course," Shuzenji sighed. Aizawa gave an accompanying facepalm. A few moments later, the doors busted open and All Might ran in. He faltered at the sight of three of his faculty members standing and waiting for him.

"Did you know I was coming?"

Aizawa rolled his eyes. "I think every villain, hero, and civilian heard you coming."

As All Might blushed and tried to apologize, Nezu noticed that the number one Hero was not alone. There was a young woman in his arms, unconscious, and a younger boy was trying to catch up with him.

"All Might," he said, "I thought we were going to get help."

"Who needs help?" Shuzenji asked, causing the boy to gasp.

"You! You're Recovery Girl! Your Quirk, Recovery, is one of the most useful assets in recent medical development. You saved over a million lives within a year of your Hero debut. And you're the principal of UA, Nezu! I heard you were—"

Both Aizawa and Nezu turned to study the boy. He had green hair and freckles. Not overly athletic but Nezu definitely noticed some increased muscle in his arms. He sniffed the air. And he was training quite recently. By the beach. Nezu had read in the newspaper that the — beach had been getting cleaned up. Was this because of him?

"Who's this?" Aizawa asked.

All Might's grin grew wider. "Izuku Midoriya, my protégée. And this is your patient." He pushed his way into the office and laid the girl down on one of the cots. "Midoriya found her during some training a few minutes ago."

The young man, Midoriya, nodded. "She appeared in a flash of light. At first, I thought that was her Quirk. But she was also steaming, so I thought maybe she could turn into it and what I saw was just her condensing into her human form. She's been unconscious almost the entire time."

Nezu raised an eyebrow. Very perceptive. "But what of the Sixth Law of Quirk Dynamics?"

Midoriya responded almost instantly. "'Quirks cannot be activated while their user is unconscious'? I thought about that, but it could have just been leftover residue from her transformation. I didn't think it was directly related."

"And how is it you are aware of such a complex study, Mr. Izuku?"

"I've always had a fascination with Quirks," he blushed.

Recovery Girl humphed. "What does that have to do with what's currently going on?"

"I apologize, Shuzenji," Nezu smiled as Midoriya blushed and frantically tried to give his own apology. "Please ignore us."

Humphing, again, Recovery Girl leaned down to study the unconscious woman. "There seems to be nothing wrong with her physically…" She poked the girl with her cane - the woman grunted but made no effort to bat it away. "And there appears to be no internal damage. She seems in perfect health."

"Then why hasn't she woken up?" Aizawa asked. When there is no response given by the medical specialist, he turns to All Might with a glare. "Have you even tried to wake her up?"

"I, uh, did," Midoriya answered as All Might did everything in his power to avoid Aizawa's gaze. "But she attacked me. Then she collapsed again."

The underground hero turned his eyes to the boy and his hair seemed to float in the late evening air. "You brought a possible villain here?!"

Nezu held up one of his paws. "Aizawa, we are not aware of this woman's nature and shouldn't jump to conclusions. Do not fault young Izuku Midoriya for this. He simply saw someone in need of help and requested it."

Growling, Aizawa pointed at the number one Hero. "I'm talking about this idiot. He didn't check, he didn't call it in. In fact, I wasn't even aware that he had a student until a few seconds ago. It all seems awfully suspicious if you ask me."

"I was not trying to go around your back, my friend." All Might coughed into his fist and Nezu smelled the specific odor of iron and blood. He was hiding it, but All Might was still injured from an old wound and he wasn't getting better. "I was just respecting the wishes of young Midoriya, who wanted to bring the young woman here as quickly as possible."

"Let's not focus on what could have been done," Nezu added, giving Aizawa's leg a few pats. "Let's focus on what we can do. All Might, it might be reasonable to take this young woman to a safer room. You remember the detention hall, correct?"

All Might nodded and picked the girl up again. Then he, followed by Nezu, Aizawa, and Midoriya (Shuzenji went back to bed), made their way toward the delinquent rooms where teachers would send problematic students. Though that wasn't necessary much anymore. Especially not after Aizawa started teaching.

Along the way, the young protege of All Might seemed to watch everything with reverence. He'd repeatedly look down hallways and into classroom windows, listing off which Pro-Hero's graduated from that specific room. And seat.

A fascination indeed, Nezu remarked. "Do you want to attend my school?"

Midoriya nodded ecstatically. "It's my dream to become a Pro-Hero and graduate from UA High."

"And why do you want to be a Hero?"

"I want to save others with a smile," he answered.

Nezu smiled. It seems like All Might found the perfect student for him. He ignored Aizawa's mumbling about his foolishness and offered a paw for Midoriya to shake. "That's a selfless dream you have. I hope to one day see you achieve it in my classroom."

For a moment, it looked like the boy was going to cry. Then he swallowed and took his paw with his hands. "Yes sir!"

All Might stopped their march and opened the door to the detention hall with a "We are here!" One might describe the inside as a prison, but Nezu always meant it to be a place of solitude. Were there cells? Yes. In case a student began attacking a professor. But the cells also had comfortable beds, desks, books, and other things that weren't considered dangerous at all.

Setting the girl on one of the cots in the rooms, All Might made sure the girl was comfortable before pulling the metal bars across the entrance.

"You are safe now, young one," he stated as the doors locked.

When Vin woke up, she realized she was not in the Final Empire anymore. In fact, she didn't think she was even on Scadrial anymore.

Why did she think this? The talking mouse creature made a compelling argument for one.

As Vin's eyelids opened, she first noticed the light above her. It wasn't like any kind she was used to, not a torch or limelight. Where am I? Vin tried to sit up and gasped as the bed seemed to roll like dough. It was soft and even Vin, who hated plush beds since Kelsier first introduced her to them, had to admit this was the comfiest thing she had ever laid on.

She distrusted it immediately. Soft and comfortable we're not verbs used to describe anything in the Final Empire. It was harsh and cruel. Hard and unforgiving. This was… clean. The strange lights of the glass caused the metal floor to shine. The walls were made from some sort of sponge. When she pressed her hand against it, it gave slightly. There was also a desk and a chair of greater make and design than any she had seen in both Club's shop or nobleman's keep. Wooden tops with metal legs.

And that was her first clue. Outside of Allomancy, the use of metals were only used if necessary. If it worked with wood, you'd use wood. You wouldn't waste precious iron on random fixtures. Especially not any this refined. It had no blemishes. No sign of rust either. Practically unheard of.

Then there were the bars. Her 'room' was cut off from others by a large iron gate. She had been here before, trapped and enclosed, and it immediately brought those memories back.

Vin reached out to try and grab the metal. Maybe with pewter- no pewter, Vin realized. No steel, iron, or any other metals. Her Allomantic reserves, which gave her her powers, were completely nil. But even without tin, she noticed something move on the other side.

It was something alien to her. Like some sort of cross between a small bear and a large mouse, but stood and acted like a man. It wore a suit and held a cup of tea in its palm. There was also a large scar encircling its eye.

"Hello!" it squeaked. Vin stepped back and did another check of the room. If she broke the desk, maybe she could use some of the fragments. Or break off a piece of swallowable metal? "My name is Nezu. I am the principal of UA. Do you know what's going on?"

Vin studied the creature. He certainly seemed to act like a person. Yet she had seen kandras act as dogs before. Was a large mouse really so far-fetched? Frowning, she walked toward the bars and wrapped her hands around them. "I'm being imprisoned," she stated.

Nezu shook its head. "No, you are being detained until we know if it's safe to let you go or alert the authorities."

The young Mistborn raised her eyebrow. "Authorities? Like the Garrison? Hammond will vouch for me. Ask him."

"Garrison?" If it was possible for a mouse to look puzzled, Nezu did. "I don't believe you understand, you would be handed over to the JSDF - the Japan Special Defence Force."

"Japan? Is that the name of this city?"

"Japan isn't a city. It's a country."

Vin's geography was very, very limited. But she had never even heard of Japan before. The Final Empire encompassed the entire continent on this side of the ocean. "Is this the other side of the Boiling Sea?" Vin asked.

Again, that look. "No. It's between the Pacific and China. Where are you from?"

Pacific? China? Like the pottery? "Where is Luthadel? Or the Final Empire?" Her mind flashed back to the Well. Elend. The Voice. "I need to get back there!"

As Vin began to grow more and more erratic, Nezu took a step forward and frowned. "I've never heard of those places. Perhaps… Miss, do you know what Earth is?"

"I'm standing on earth," Vin growled. "Or wherever it is you've taken me. I need to see Ham or Breeze! Anyone! Where's Elend?!"

"Earth is the planet," he stated. It was obvious he was trying to calm her down but she couldn't afford to be calm right now. Elend was in trouble. But something about the absurdity of what he said snapped her, briefly, into consciousness.

Vin paused. "Scadrial is the planet."

Nezu, though this was his guess, stepped back. "No, it's not. Miss, I am afraid you are a long way from home. Please, calm down, and we will help you."

"I don't need help! I need Elend!" Vin dropped to her knees as tears streamed down her eyes. Please… He can't be gone. Elend was her home, her everything.

But somehow she knew that all she had loved was gone.

Well, how do you like that? My second story, and it's about 2 times larger than my last story's opener. I realize it's not as long as my usual chapters, but it's just the pilot sooo… suffer.

A lot of fun went into this one. But I am afraid I am not as knowledgeable as I am MHA as I am with the Cosmere or with RWBY. So, I am accepting beta offers if anyone wants to help out.

I hope you all enjoyed this one. Looks like it'll be a lot of fun to write.

Please, feel free to follow and comment predictions, thoughts, etc. I am always looking for new ways to improve my craft. Tell your friends!
