"My goodness, Anabelle- how many times must I call for you before you finally hear me!?" her mother asked in a huff, hands flded and cocked against her hips.

"It's Ana..." the girl said softly with a sigh.

"What?"

"...Nevermind..." the girl grumbled.
After all it wasn't as though her mother really ever heard her, anyway...

"What were you doing up there anyway?" asked her mother, as she proceeded with the chopping of the peppers and onions scattered about the counter in the kitchen.

"Just reading through the pamphlet about the Boarding School you're shipping me off to..." she mumbled.

After all, lord forbid if I am even allowed to be alone with my thoughts anymore...

"Oh come on, now, Anabelle...you know it isn't like that..." said her mother, once again leaving her child's words unheaded about her name...

"Besides- this will be good for you." she said softly.

A line Ana has heard repeated to her a thousand times by now-

"You know...I just think...it would be better this way...given our previous circumstances prior to coming here."

"That wasn't my fault though-"

"And now is your chance to start fresh." Her mother said sharply, abruptly cutting the girl off-

it did no point to argue with her...

She still didn't listen...

"It's good to see you in your new uniform." she said softly, fixing the tie and casually bryshing away the lint-

"Always best to look sharp on your first day- after all, you only get one chance for a first impression~" she hummed.

The doorbell rang above the chatter and caught the attention of both mother and daughter.

"Ana- get the door would you?" she asked softly, "I still need to clean up here and wash up..."

"Yeah...sure." Ana agreed reluctantly and made her way with heavy steps toward the door and opened up, being greeted by a right and proper older gentleman on the other side.

"Greetings- You are...Miss Annabelle, yes?"

"Uh...it's...just Ana."

"Ah- I see. My apologies." he said to her with a warm smile, "And on behalf of the Academy I must also apologize for the late arrival of your enrollment documents... as well as my delay in introducing myself." he said with a clearing of his throat while he straightened his collar, "I am the director of Uva Academy- you may call me ."

"The Director?" her mother's voice sounded from the kitchen while she walked out drying her hands in her apron, "And you came in person to help Anabelle with her first day?"

The director took notice of the young girl's visible cringe and cleared his throat to speak-

"Well, I am responsible for the entire academy- includinf failures pm its part..." he said firmly, "So here at last are the enrollment documents of...Ms.Ana." he said with a smile and a quick glance her way before shifting is attention back. "They should have been delivered much sooner...so I do apologize."

The simple gesture alone was enough to rise her eyes...a flutter in her chest with appreciation of hearing someone else use the name she preferred.

"Goodness, you really needn't have..." said her mother graciously accepting the documentation handed to her, "Since you've come all this way, can I at least offer you a cup of tea?"

"There's no need to trouble yourself, really." said with a gentle risen hand of decline.

"Anabelle, I've got a thing or to to discuss with the director, here." said her mother- "Mean while why don't you go an and make sure you have everything, hm?" she smiled, "After all, you will be living at the school for a while...it would be a shame if you found out you forgot something later."

"Yeah...good call." she said softly, "Then...if you excuse me." she bowed politely and proceeded to trudge up the stairs, leaving the Director alone with her mother to chat.

"Well- look at you all dressed up and ready for school~" her mother hummed as Ana quietly stepped into the living space, hoping as to not interrupt.

"Yes- the uniform of our storied academy suits you quite well indeed." smiled, before soddenly touching his fingers to his lips as though forgetting something very important-

"Oh gracious! How careless of me!" he said with a soft gasp, "I had entirely forgotten that I had something else to give you as well, - a most important thing!" he said firmly, "Though...the living space is hardly the place for it..." he said softly, "Would you care to follow me outside?"

"Now I wonder what could be so important...?" her mother questioned softly as her eyes followed the Director out the door, soon joining him alongside with Ana.

The walked together to the front stoop, where stood ready and waiting.

"Right then, dear Poke'mon, time to come out now!" with a single swoop of motion he tossed three poke'balls into the air- each bursting with a starter of the particular, Paldea region-

"We provide each student entering the Academy with a poke'mon of their own." he said warmly, seeming rather proud of that fact,"I'll ask you to choose which of these three you would like to have as your partner."

"Oh...that's...kinda cool, actually.' said Ana, as she leaned forward to take a closer glance to the offered creatures before her. One of which to be chosen by her as a partner...

There was Sprigatito...the Grass Cat Poke'mon.

Fuecoco...the Fire Croc Poke'mon.

And...Quaxley...the Duckling.

"They all make for very good company." Mr, Clavell said softly.

The small cretures stepped a bit closer to Ana, each one seeming to be just as curious about her as she was about each of them...

"I do wish I could stay abd see which one you'll choose, but I'm afraid I must be off to my next home visit..." he said softly, shifting his gaze to the rather nice looking gated mansion down the way...

"I'll be at that house there." he said to her, "Take you time with your decisionthen come find me once your mind is made up...now...if you'll excuse me." he said softly with a gentlemen's bow before turning on his heel to begin his walk, ;eaving Ana alone with her decision.

"What a mannerly fellow that director of yours is!" hummed her mother, "Oh, but before you go...I got you something else to celebrate your big day." she said, handing over a device and placing it into her daughter's hand.

"Ah...a Rotom phone?" Ana was...surprised to say the least. Her relationship with her mother had been...rather strained since the difficulties of the past incident that led them here-

"It should come in handy..." she said softly, "To keep you from losing your way...or you know...phoning home." she shrugged and smile, "Now then...off with you..." she hummed, "And best of luck, dear!"

And so with that...her mother retreated into the confines of their home, and Left Ana to the open path to wander down the way, where the Director would be waiting for her...
