Detective Nick Burkhardt hung up the phone and immediately called his partner and friend, Hank Griffen.
"Hank, we may have a problem from the Grimm side of things. I just got a call from someone asking if I'm a Grimm. He said I have something he needs. I asked him if he knew what a Grimm is and he said, a protector."
"Sounds like he has a positive idea of what a Grimm is. Alot of Wesen don't. Did he indicate if he's a Wesen? Or is he just curious."
"He didn't say or indicate anything about Wesen at all. He just said I have something he needs, which could be anything. Which is why I arranged to have him meet me at the station, so we could talk. Safety in numbers. I need to know what he's up to."
"I'll head there now." Nick was grateful to have a partner and friend like Hank. Even when it came to the weird stuff, Hank was still willing to be there for him. Next he called Monroe and Rosalie, two more good friends, as well as Wesen. After filling Monroe in, Monroe said. "I've never heard a Grimm being described that way, especially by a Wesen. You're too much of a boogie man to most Wesen. I'll meet you there. I might be able to scent or see something."
"Thanks Monroe. See you there." Nick hung up again and turned to Trubel, his and Juliette's house guest, a fellow Grimm who'd been working on an investigation of the Wesenrein, a hate group that had targeted Monroe and Rosalie."You heard?"
"Yes, you want me to wait here or come with you?"
"Come with and keep an eye from just right outside the bullpen. If this guy turns out to be a problem, I want him out fast."
"Good idea." The two headed out to Nick's Land Cruiser and headed for the station, where Monroe and Hank where waiting in the parking lot.
"Monroe, I want you to come in with us. If this guy is a Wesen and I don't recognize what kind, maybe you can. Trubel's going to hang out outside the bullpen and keep an eye on things from there. Any questions?"
"What did the guy sound like, young, old?" Hank asked, wanting an idea of who they were looking for.
"Fairly young, late teens, early twenties probably. But there are Wesen who can disguise their voice so that might not be what he actually looks like, so he could be any age."
"Gives us a start, though." Hank pointed out. The rest nodded and they headed inside. They each took their places. Trubel was close enough to hear the young couple ask for Nick. She was also close enough to hear their conversation. Demon? It was what some Wesen were thought to be by humans, but he also seemed to understand that there was a difference. But the big thing was that he could see Monroe, even though Monroe wasn't in either of his woge states. Not even Grimm could see them when they weren't in either woge state.
Nick saw Trubel discretely point at a young couple just entering the bullpen. Nick studied them as they approached his and Hank's desks. The young man moved like a soldier, they were both alert and scanned for threats. The young man's eyes lingered on Monroe and studied him for a moment. Monroe got up and pretended to bump into the young man and took a second to look at his eyes. Wesen could see their woge state reflected in the eyes of Grimm. There was no reflection. Once past the couple he shook his head at Nick, indicating he wasn't a Grimm. And Monroe wasn't seeing a Wesen when he looked at either of them. He headed over to Trubel.
"The kid could see you." She told him. "Even though you're not in either woge state. The girl asked if you were a demon, I know some humans tend to think of Wesen that way, the kid said, maybe or maybe one of the Wesen we were told about. They think demons are something different then Wesen."
"Now I'm even more curious." Monroe said.
"So am I." Trubel agreed. "I hope Nick gets some answers."
"He's not a Wesen, but he smells like an animal. He's not a Grimm, no reflection in his eyes."
"Something different?" Trubel wondered.
"They both have a scent I don't recognize. So probably."
Xander and Cordelia approached the two detectives and Xander said quietly. "I'm not tired today, which means I'm not missing things I sometimes miss when I am tired. The girl watching us for instance. The fact that your friend isn't what he looks like and he oh so casually checked my eyes for something. It might be a good idea if we take this outside."
"It probably is." Nick agreed. He and Hank stood up and clipped their guns and badges in place, a not so subtle reminder of who they were and that they could and would protect themselves.
A/N If anyone questions Monroe being able to scent, he did follow his sense of smell a number of times in the show and he's a werewolf type of Wesen. Makes sense.
Some terms for those who don't know the tv show Grimm.
Grimm - enhanced human who can see a Wesen. Both a boogie man and a sort of police officer of the supernatural.
Wesen - para human. At some point in history, animals, fish and insect DNA was blended wth some humans. How, no one knows. They have two DNA strands and two states of being. Human and their altered state. It's German, pronounced vessen.
Woge. - two forms, one that humans can't see and one that they can. Grimms can see the one that regular humans can't. Also German, pronounced voga.
Xander is the One Who Sees, how would this manifest in different realities? Fanfics have always held that there was more meaning to Caleb calling him that then was ever explained on the show.
