Walking into the kitchen, I saw Dakota looking out the window. There was something I wanted to talk to him about, so I walked over to him. Seeing his face, I knew he was talking to the dead due to his eyes. Turning him to face me, I placed my hands next to his head, focusing on his mind.
Turning around, I was by swirling mists and ethereal light, and I was not alone. Standing before me was Dakota, and kneeling before him was a strange alien creature. It had armor for its body, arms growing out of its body in any possible place. It had pincers for a mouth and six legs that looked like a spider.
"Thank you for your service in life." He said as he lifted the aliens head up. "I cannot return you to your loved ones, but know that your family lives." He said, with the alien gurgling, and it looked like he smiled. The alien turned to dust, leaving Dakota alone with me. "Wanda Maximoff." Dakota called out, his voice echoed through the void. "What brings you into my mindscape?" He asked, turning his head to face me.
"I seek understanding." I replied as I walked over to him, my voice steady despite the otherworldly setting. "I feel a connection between us, one that needs an explanation. I need to know if it is real, or merely a trick of perception." I said as I stopped in front of him.
Dakota regarded me with a gaze that seemed to see into the depths of my soul. "You speak of the threads that bind us together." He said, holding his hand up and showing a red thread on his pinky. I followed the thread and watched as it connected to mine. "They have woven a complex tapestry between us." He said, sealing not as himself, but as Death. It was odd, hearing him speak like this.
"But what does it mean?" I pressed, my brow furrowed with concern. "Are we meant to be something more?" I asked, unsure what this thread was.
Dakota's expression remained inscrutable. "The nature of our connection is a reflection of the balance between life and death, creation and dissolution. We are intertwined, yet distinct. Our paths intersect, but the ultimate destination remains shrouded in mystery." He said as he looked off to the distance, with me doing the same and seeing a throne.
I pondered his words, trying to unravel his meaning. "So, are we a couple, or are we merely experimenting with the boundaries of our relationship?" I said bluntly, making him sigh.
Dakota's lips quirked in a semblance of a smile. "Yes, I would call us a couple." He said as he crossed his arms. "Unless... you don't see us as a couple?" He asked, worry in his voice.
I nodded, wanting to be more than just what we have been. "Our connection transcends the constraints of mortal understanding." I said, doing my best to speak like he was.
"Our connection is not merely a cosmic intersection." Dakota confessed. "It is a bond that transcends the boundaries of our respective realms. I have come to understand that it is more than an abstract concept—it is an undeniable truth."
My heart quickened as I listened, realizing the weight of his words. "What are you saying, Dakota?" I asked, wanting it to be clear on his words.
"I am saying that I have found myself drawn to you in a way that defies my nature as it is now." He admitted. "I want to be with you, to walk alongside you as more than allies or adversaries. I want to be your companion through the ebb and flow of time." He said as he held his hand out.
A mix of emotions washed over me—surprise, wonder, and a glimmer of hope. I had never expected such a proposal from him. "I... I don't know what to say." I said as I looked away, actually blushing.
Dakota reached out, his hand enveloping mine in a gentle embrace. "You need not say anything now. Simply know that the threads that bind us are not arbitrary. They have woven a path that leads us to this moment, and I am prepared to walk it with you, if you will have me." He said, making me look him in the eyes.
I felt a warmth spread through me, a sensation that went beyond my formidable powers. I looked into Dakota's eyes and saw a depth of feeling that mirrored my own. "I accept." I said, my voice steady with conviction. I didn't know if I was being proposed to or asked out. "I, too, feel the pull of our connection, and I choose to embrace it." I said, getting lost in his eyes.
He smiled at that, a testament to the profound significance of the moment. "Then let us embark on this journey together, Wanda." He said as I found myself back in the kitchen with him, looking into his eyes. He placed a thumb and finger on my chin, guiding me in for a kiss.
I watched as he vanished before my eyes, leaving black smoke in his wake. I looked around for him, not finding him. I grew angry over this. He played me! He played me and I was NOT going to let him get away with this!
Same Time, Dakota's POV
One second I'm going in for a kiss with Wanda, and the next I'm called back to the End of the Universe. "Why have you called me, Decay?" I questioned as I looked to the throne, watching as Decay walked over to me. He wore a long black cloak with white inner lining, he had his hood up, a scruffy long beard and hardened eyes.
"My sister has awakened." He said, where I crossed my arms. "Phoenix, will destroy everything that is in her path." He said, with me nodding as he walked through me, becoming one with me again.
"Fine, we will go take care of this, Phoenix." I said, where I summoned my scythe and cut in front of me, opening a rift. Walking through, my journey led me to a Shi'ar Cruser, with me seeing the current Emperor, D'Kan, using the M'kraan Crystal to give himself immeasurable powers. Behind him his guards held Lilandra prisoner, while in front of them stood Jean Grey of the X-Men, with the power of the awakened Phoenix, where the X-Men stood not far behind her.
Seeing Lilandra look at me, her eyes widened. The X-Men turned as well, with me snapping my fingers. Time stood still, leaving only three of us moving. The first was me, for obvious reasons. The second was the Phoenix, who was now looking above me. The last was D'Kan, who was still holding the M'kraan Crystal, trying to get it to work for him. I looked up and saw a Fire bird take shape, with one coming from me as well, only it was black and pushed against the Phoenix.
I stepped forward, looking at Jean as she watched me walk past her. "Fool." I declared, looking at D'Ken. "You meddle with powers you cannot comprehend." I said as, watching as D'Kan slowly froze due to my time stop. I took the M'Kraan Crystal from him, watching as time almost froze him completely.
"Who are you to stand in my way?" D'Ken demanded, struggling against the time stop.
My eyes glowing with infinite power as I looked him in the eyes, seeing my reflection through them. "I am Death." I said, my voice echoing in the silent vacuum of halted time. Wrapping my hands around the M'Kraan Crystal, I used its power to seal D'Kan inside, hearing his screams as I did so. "And I will not allow your foolish ambitions to disrupt the balance." I said as I looked inside and saw him being torn apart inside.
With D'Ken dealt with, I turned to Decay's sister, the Phoenix. "As for you, Phoenix, you were to protect the M'Kraan Crystal! Instead you almost got everyone killed due to your incompetence!" I said, seeing the hurt expression of the bird. I held my hand out to it, with a purple energy wrapping around it. Its power tried to burn through, but failed. "If you wish to stay then learn to co-exist with this mortal known as Jean Grey!?" I yelled as I forced it back inside Jean, with her looking shocked at what just happened.
Time soon unfroze, with everyone looking around and then at me as I held the M'Kraan Crystal. "What happened to him Majesty?" Gladiator questioned, looking around in confusion.
"Lilandra!" I said, looking at the woman, who looked shocked as I knew who she was. "You are now the Emperor of the Shi'ar Empire." I said as I held the crystal up. "Fail to protect this, or try to use its powers like your foolish brother, and I will see to it that your fate is worse than his!" I said as I let it go, with it floating over to her.
She caught it, looking inside and seeing her brother's fate. "Who are you?" She asked, with me opening a rift back home to the Owl House.
"Dakota!" I heard my name, with me turning to see the girl from before, the one I gave back her leg.
"My true name, yes, but now days, I am Death." I said as I walked through the rift, leaving them by themselves. My job was done, and I just knew I was going to get an ear full from Wanda for leaving the way I did.
Walking through the front door, I put my scythe away. "Where have you been?" Wanda asked, her arms crossed as she waited in the living room.
"Dealing with my sister." I said, confusing her as she had a confused expression on her face. "Not my literal sister, but spiritual? How do I explain it?" I asked myself as I tried to think of how to explain the brother sister bond between two celestial beings that live inside two non related beings.
"Your sister?" She questioned as she tapped her foot, waiting for me to explain.
"I got it!" I said, snapping my fingers. "Phoenix and Decay are brother and sister Celestials, with Decay living inside me!" I said, with her nodding her head.
"So Decay has a sister?" She asked, with me nodding.
"Yeah, she is inside Jean Grey, of the X-Men!" I said, with her pinching the bridge of her nose.
"I'm still mad." She said as she let out a heavy sigh. "Care to guess?" She asked, looking at me as she crossed her arms.
"Because we were interrupted?" I asked, with her nodding. "Care to give it another try?" I asked, with her shaking her head at me. "Yeah... figured." I said as I lowered my head in defeat.
Looking to my left, we watched as a crow flew in and opened its mouth. "We regret to inform you that Luz the Human has been expelled from school." Principal Bump said from the other end of the talking crow, like a phone.
"Bad timing!" I said as Wanda screamed, with her powers going out of control and destroying the living room. "I will go deal with this!" I said as I ran out the door, with me knowing just who to go see.
Later
I found myself striding purposefully through the hallowed halls of Hexside School of Magic and Demonics. I wore a mischievous glint in my eye as I made my way to Principal Bump's office, determined to get to the bottom of a recent incident that had left Luz expelled from the school.
As I entered the office, Principal Bump looked up from his paperwork, his owl-like features betraying a mix of weariness and curiosity. "Dakota, I take it that you are here because of Luz's expulsion?" he asked, his voice a gravelly rasp. I leaned casually against the doorframe, a devilish smile playing on my lips. Bump let out a heavy sigh, his feathers ruffling in agitation. "Ah, yes. The incident involving the human girl. I'm afraid her actions left me with no choice but to expel her from Hexside."
I raised an eyebrow. "Her actions, huh? Care to elaborate, or are we playing the mysterious owl game today?" I questioned as I held my head up high.
Bump fixed me with a stern gaze. "Luz, Augustus, and Willow were expelled due to their recent troubles. Odalia Blight, head of the HOA, has declared that she is a threat to the school and needed to be expelled." He informed, making me grin at his words.
"Odalia Blight... Isn't she married to Alador Blight?" I asked, with him raising an eyebrow at me.
Bump's features softened slightly as he nodded. "Yes, she is. Do you know the Blights?" He asked, curious.
I chuckled at the news. "You could say that we're friends... of a sort. Let's just say we had an interesting encounter in the past." I said as I let out a laugh.
Later
I wasted no time in making my way to the imposing Blight manor, my determination unwavering. As I approached the grand entrance, the imposing guards stationed outside moved to intercept me, but I merely sauntered past them with an air of nonchalance, as if they were nothing more than pesky gnats.
Inside the opulent foyer, My gaze fell upon Odalia Blight, who stood with an air of haughty elegance. "Odalia," I declared, my voice ringing out through the cavernous hall, "we need to have a little chat." I said as I narrowed my eyes at her.
Odalia's eyes narrowed with thinly veiled disdain. "And who, pray tell, are you to barge into our home uninvited and make demands?" She questioned as her guards came at me again, only this time they exploded into the mush that they were, shocking her as I don't move towards them, but her.
My smirk never wavered. With a swift motion, I raised my hand and, with a flick of my wrist, made Alador Blight witness what comes to those who screw with me. A blinding flash of light enveloped Odalia, and when it faded, she was nowhere to be seen.
Alador Blight, who had been observing the confrontation with a mixture of surprise and consternation, stepped forward, his expression a mix of concern and outrage. "What have you done with my wife?" he demanded, his voice trembling with a hint of fear.
I regarded him coolly. "Don't worry, she'll be back in a moment. I simply wanted to show you what I'm capable of. Consider it a warning." I said, and as if on cue, a shimmering portal materialized, and Odalia reappeared, her expression a mixture of shock and confusion. "Be warned, Odalia." I continued, my voice dripping with quiet menace. "Luz is under my protection. If any harm comes to her because of your family's meddling, it won't just be YOU who vanishes. It will be the entire Blight family." I warned, watching as she backed away out of fear. With that, I turned on my heel and strode out of the manor, leaving the Blights to ponder her ominous words.
Later
As I made my way back to the Owl House, I couldn't help but feel a surge of satisfaction. I knew that I had made my point clear, and the Blights would think twice before crossing paths with Luz again. After all, in the magical world of the Boiling Isles, one had to be willing to take drastic measures to ensure the safety of those they cared about.
I arrived back at home, a sense of contentment settling over me as I stepped through the front door. I made my way to the kitchen and set about brewing a pot of tea that I brought from Earth, the comforting aroma wafting through the air as I prepared a steaming cup for myself.
As I settled into the couch, cradling the warm mug in my hands, a small, satisfied smile tugged at the corners of my lips. I had not always been one to stand up for what I believed in, but times have changed.
With each sip of tea, my mind wandered to the myriad adventures and escapades that lay ahead. I knew that the magical world of the Boiling Isles was a place of endless wonder and danger, and I relished every moment of it.
As the evening light filtered through the windows, casting a warm glow over the room, I felt a sense of peace settle over me. I had made my mark on the Blights, and I knew that my actions would ripple through the realm of magic, leaving an indelible impression.
With a soft sigh of contentment, I allowed myself to relax, knowing that I had done what I could to protect Luz. As the day melted into evening, I found solace in the simple pleasure of a quiet moment at home, my mind already turning to the thrilling possibilities that awaited me on the morrow.
With a final sip of tea, I set her cup aside and laid down, with me finding that Wanda was passed out as well. I didn't realize that she was here, and I wasn't waking her either. I closed my eyes and passed out myself.
Later, Wanda's POV
Feeling a weight on my legs, I looked opened my eyes. I was laying on the couch, apparently I fell asleep while waiting for Dakota to take care of the Luz getting expelled from Hexside problem. Looking at my legs, I saw Dakota was passed out on the other end of the couch, laying on my legs.
"I have done it!" I heard Eda, with me getting up and looking at Eda as she ran into the living room. She held up a sheet of paper, with a bunch of glyphs smashed together.
"What?" King asked, with me looking down and seeing that King was lying on top of Dakota's back. He also had a camera on him, for whatever reason.
"This!" Eda said as she put the sheet of paper in Kings face, where he got a bad feeling due to his fur standing up.
"Eda, wh—what the heck is that supposed to be?" King asked, fear on his face as she pulled the sheet back.
"I call it "the super glyph"!" Eda said, looking at it herself, smiling.
"More like, a stupid glyph." King said sarcastically.
"Just you wait, this'll be a killer combo. Lesser glyphs will shrink in fear!" Eda said, before she taps on the glyph and it turns into an ice cube. "Hah! It didn't blow up!" She cheered, with me getting up and using my powers to lift Dakota, dragging him over to the wall as I had a bad feeling. The ice cube sparkles and turns into a blob of ice which looks like a turtle shell with spikes.
"Uh, i-is it supposed to do that?" King asked as I moved over to Eda, pulling her back, with King following. The ice blob suddenly expands, causing us to yelp in surprise and run away. It continues to expand, trapping and freezing various objects inside it.
Summoning a mace from the wall, I handed it over to Eda, who started attacking the ice blob. Shooting it with my magic, I watched in shock as it bounced off, almost hitting me. "It reflected my magic!?" I said, picking King up to keep him away from the ice blob.
There was a knock at the door behind us, with me looking at it. "Edalyn? Are these distress noises or normal noises?" Lilith asked, with me looking back at the ice blob as it expanded slowly.
"Totally normal! Don't come in!" Eda said as she looks at the blob. "I am your mother! You will obey me and die!" She said as she hits the ice blob with a mace, but the mace is absorbed by the blob this time and Eda was pushed away by a spike.
"Your pride is going to be our downfall!" I said as I watched as it took Dakota and sucked him in. "Lilith, emergency!" I called, where Lilith kicks open the door.
"Whoa." Lilith said as she saw the situation that we were in.
"Yeah, yeah. I messed up. I'm ready to follow the rules." Eda said as she rolled her eyes.
"Actually, I'd like to try an experiment." Lilith said as she holds a few pieces of paper in her hands.
"Ooooooh!" Hooty said as he shakes his neck, with me looking back at the ice blob.
Lilith got down and started making a glyph, but instead of putting them on top of each other, she connected them through lines. She stood up and slammed it onto the ice blob, with it vanishing before our eyes.
"Dakota!" I called out as I ran over to him, with me seeing that he was fine and slept through it. "I bet he would sleep during the end of the world." I said with a heavy sigh as I set King down. "King." I said, picking up a marker off of the floor and handing it to him. "Go nuts!" I said, pointing at Dakota. This got a laugh out of him, where he started drawing on his face.
Later
Both Lilith and Eda were drawing glyphs on their paper respectively. King was taking photos of Dakota, who was still out of it, and I was watching both Eda and Lilith.
"Okay so, uh, how did you beat that thing again?" Eda asked as she looked up at Lilith.
"Would you like me to lay out "the basics"?" Lilith said with a grin.
"Yes." Eda replied, but she wasn't happy with it.
"Well, you were right. These glyphs act like the basic elements. But, instead of containing magic like we do, they command the magic around them. They're like words! And drawing glyphs on top of each other like you did—"
"Was like screaming three different words at the same time! The spell got confused!" Eda finished as she understood what happened.
"Yes. The glyph combo, copyright me, Lilith, helps organize the commands." Lilith said, with me thinking about it. "So you can combine and specify what you want to do!" She added, with me looking at Lilith.
"It was strong enough to over power my magic." I said, with her looking at me. "I've never seen anything like it, and it scares me." I said, with her nodding.
"So with the right combo, you can cast any spell!" Eda said as she thought about it.
"Maybe the reason Luz hasn't found any more glyphs is because there... aren't any more." King said, with Dakota sitting up.
"That is correct." He said, with all of us looking at him. "Wild Magic, as you call it, only has four glyphs. However, that is all that is needed to do the impossible." He said as he stretched his arms.
"Wild Magic, as we call it?" I asked, knowing that he knew something but didn't want to say, or couldn't.
"Then we better start learning some new combinations." Eda said as the door opened, hitting something.
"Hey, guys!" Luz said as she wipes off abomination gunk out of her hair.
"I feel like having another conversation with the Blights." Dakota said as he stood up and started leaving. I grabbed his ear, stopping him.
"Hey, Luz! We actually learned something new!" Eda said with a smile.
"Sorry, can it wait 'till morning?" Luz said with a tired expression. "I need to lie down." Luz said, with Dakota still trying to walk off, where I could see him hissing in pain as I still held his ear.
"Wait, Miss Teacher!" Lilith said as she turns to her left then turns back holding an ice sculpture. The sculpture is of her kneeling before Luz, who's being depicted as a wise scholar holding a scroll. "Do I get extra credit?" Lilith asked like a teachers pet.
"Oh, my gosh!" Luz said, shocked but amused.
"I can do it too." Eda said, jealous of her sister. She slaps on a paper with ice glyph drawn on it. The glyph turns into an ice cube and rolls off the table. Looking at Luz, she holds her hands out to it, wanting approval.
"Wow! Yeah! Extra credit for everyone!" Luz said as she throws two pieces of star-shaped paper to Lilith and Eda then walks away. Lilith catches one and holds it to her face gratefully while Eda and King just stare at her.
"Honestly, that's adorable." I said, looking from them back to Dakota, who was gone.
Later, Dakota's POV
"So, that's how my day went." I said as I walked in between the world of the living and dead. "King is fine, Eda and Lilith are learning Titan Magic, Luz is teaching them, and Wanda and I are working this whole relationship thing out." I said as I looked next to me, seeing a larger version of King, older as well.
"Who knew that Death would eventually pass." He said with a laugh. "And this Luz, she is your champion?" He asked, with me nodding.
"And sister figure to King. She is good to him." I said, smiling at the Titan.
"I believe our talks are going to be interesting."
