Notes: Ohhh boy. this was quite the chapter to write. even though it came out shorter than most of my recent ones, it will still get its meaning across.
Enjoy!
Fireworks burst in the air above the UA sports festival as the audience cheered to the rising podium in the center of the field. The trio of students stood on top of the tiered platform, their faces ranging from blank to furious.
"HERE WE ARE FOLKS! WE HAVE OUR WINNERS IN THE FIRST YEAR STUDENTS!" Mic announced to the crowd. "IN THIRD, WE HAVE FUMIKAGE TOKOYAMI! SECOND PLACE, WE HAVE KATSUKI BAKUGO! AND COMING IN FIRST, HE IS THE WARRIOR OF FIRE AND ICE. SHOTO TODOROKI!"
Bakugo refused to look up to the crowd, scowling at the ground as he kept his hands in his pockets. After waking up, he hadn't said a word to anyone, still refusing to accept such a ridiculous loss in the finals. He gritted his teeth and looked up to his left to Shoto standing on the tallest of the three platforms. "Don't think we are done here, Icy hot. That bullshit victory won't count in a real fight, so be ready for a rematch soon, got it?"
Todoroki silently stared to the angry teen next to him before looking away, taking a deep breath as he subconsciously clenched his left hand. He was standing here at the top, in the winners seat because he finally used his left. He then shifted his eyes to Tokoyami on his left, and noticed how he was alone. "Why is Katara not there with you?" he quietly asked.
Tokoyami exhaled as he looked to the other students. "I am not sure. She left to look for Iida, but neither of them have returned." he answered.
The other classmates were looking around curiously as well, confused when Iida sprinted away suddenly after the finals and Katara went running after him. Midoriya glanced over to Kirishima next to him with a confused look. "You haven't seen her yet since they left?" he asked.
Kirishima shook his head. "Nah man. She disappeared and haven't seen her either. Kinda weird."
As the students continued chatting about the missing winner, Midnight listened to the ear piece she wore as she was given the details of the missing winning student. She struggled to keep her face straight when she heard the news, taking a breath to compose herself as she looked back up to the crowd with a fake smile.
"As you all know, Kairi Katara is supposed to share third place, but she had to leave early for a personal emergency. Let's all give her a round of applause for her performance today!"
Momo tilted her head in confusion from the statement made by the teacher, raising her hand to her chin in concern. "Something happened with Katara? What could have happened to make her leave?"
Mina overheard the creationist, looking the other classmates and noticing one more was missing as well. "Wait, she lives with Iida, right?"
"Yes, she does and…" Momo's mind began spinning when she remembered Iida's sprint up the stairs. "Both of them left earlier. Is it something that includes both of them?"
Katara shifted in her seat uncomfortably as she looked to her shoes. After her and Tenya got the news, they changed and rushed to the train station, barely stopped to even hear the teachers words as they sprinted to the train station down the road. They couldn't get to the seats fast enough, tapping their feet in worry until the train finally began moving towards their destination. Once it did, a majority of the ride was in silence.
It was ironic for Katara; she met Tensei in Hosu, and now she was heading back there to try and see him. Under these current conditions, however, there was no joy she could find in the matter. Her mind was in such a distressed state from what little they were told by the principle. All that he knew was at Hosu General, what his condition was still a mystery to everyone at the school. Now the only thing they could do was get there as fast as they could.
Looking up to her friend sitting across from her, Katara saw him staring blankly out the window to the distance. His knee was bouncing up and down, his own nerves probably through the roof to the situation. The fact his older brother was attacked was already hard enough, but not knowing how he was doing was even worse. She could only hope that they were going to arrive to something not too serious. She reached across the space between them and placed her hand onto his knee, halting his knee and causing his eyes to turn back towards her.
"Iida, it's alright. Your brother is really strong. He will be okay." She said to him with a smile.
Tenya stared at her for a second before smiling back to her. "I know. He's a great hero, and he will always get through it."
Katara could see a smile on his face, but she could sense the hesitance behind it. The doubt in his words. Unfortunately, she was feeling the same thing inside of her own heart. Even with her hoping for the best, there was a strange feeling she sensed when the principle told her what happened. Something worse was ahead of them, see could just sense it.
She could only hope she was wrong.
Once the train finally came to the station they wanted, Tenya nearly leapt out of the open door so fast Katara could barely get off of her seat. "What the- Iida, wait!" She yelled as she tried running after him. Katara just got through the doors of the train before she saw he was already near the stairs. "Iida, hold up!"
Her words were reaching deaf ears however, the speedster teen's mind only thinking of one place to be. The only reason he wasn't already out of the station now was the crowd of people holding up the stairs. He huffed out in frustration as he tried shoving his way through, trying to weave his way up the top even as the other people yelped to annoyance. He finally broke out of the final wave at the top and ready to sprint down the sidewalk when a hand suddenly latched onto his wrist. He shook his fist to try and break the grip, glaring back until he saw his friend holding onto him.
"Iida, please stop." She said to him, "you know I can't keep with you."
Tenya wanted to reach the hospital as fast as he could, but did know he couldn't just leave her behind going there. Taking a deep breath, he gave a quick nod. "You're right, I'm sorry. It's just that… I'm really worried about Tensei."
"I am too. Believe me…" she reached up and gripped his shoulder. "I want to see how he is just like you."
Swallowing the lump in his throat, Tenya gave a nod and turned back down the road. "Alright."
Katara almost shouted after him when he ran off again, but noticed his pace was just slow enough for her to keep up. Running after him, she matched his pace, both of them running passed the confused onlookers on the sidewalk. After a few minutes she felt her lungs breathing harder, her legs feeling the burn as they reached the nearby hospital. Even when they slowed down inside the doors however, their heart rates did not slow. Now that they were actually there, the thoughts inside their head began spinning around like crazy.
They looked around the group of faces before Tenya saw the directory board on the side of the hall. "Over here!" he shouted and led Katara over to the list, scrolling until he saw the line he needed. "Mother said they are in the surgery room, On the fifth floor. Come on!"
Katara yelped slightly as he grabbed her wrist and pulled her forward, but immediately kept her pace with him as they ran down the hall. She looked up to his worried eyes, seeing the fear behind the glasses he wore. The same look she felt so many years ago, running through the snow in her village on that fateful day.
'Mom…'
The painful memories began replaying in Katara's mind, the waterbender clutching her chest as she waited in the elevator with Tenya. Images of snow and ash falling around her once again as she ran towards someone she cared about back home, wanting to get to them and find something horrible. She was getting that same feeling right now inside this place.
As the doors to the elevators opened, the two of them ran out almost bumping into a nurse before they reached the hostess behind the counter. Tenya leaned gave a deep bow before nearly leaning over the desktop to the womans surprise. "Ma'am, I must see Tensei Iida, he was brought in earlier!" he yelled out.
"He's down in the room 597, but I can only allow family to-hey!" the woman yelled out as Tenya ran off down the hall.
Katara looked between her friend and the woman before taking off after him. "Thank you, its his brother, sorry!"
The clerk's eyes widened as she watched the girl run after him. "You can't go back there! Only family right now!"
Katara felt her chest tighten to the words but didn't listen to her. Family was more than blood to her, and she wouldn't just wait here to be called to see him. She wanted to be next to him.
At the end of the hall, Tenya gasped when he saw his mother sitting by a door staring at the ground. "Mom!" he called out snapping her head up towards him, her eyes wide with worry.
"Tenya!" Madoka stood up and ran towards him. "I called your father, he's on his way too."
"Mother, how is Tensei doing? Where is he?"
The older woman sniffled a few times in pain, her eyes noticing Katara standing beside her son. "Katara…. You came too." she stuttered out.
"Of course I did. What happened? Is he okay?" Katara hastily asked her, the elder Iida clenching her fist.
"He was trying to stop a villain. They say he- wait!" Madoka yelled out as Tenya sprinted passed her to the room. Her son didn't stop, bursting through the door in worry.
"Tensei! I'm here, are…" the teens voice fell flat when his eyes fell onto the other side of the room. His heart felt like it stopped beating in his chest to the horrible sight before him. Katara saw his frozen state from behind, her own fear growing as she slid around him to catch a glimpse. When she did however, her own body felt a familiar cold chill she had felt so many years ago as a child.
"Oh no…"
Tensei was laying there on the bed, his body as still as a board. His arms and abdomen were wrapped in so many thick bandages they barely gave his skin room to breathe. The ones over his stomach especially were packed with pads already soaked red from seeping blood. The normally warm look on his face was replaced with a sickly, pain stricken grimace underneath the oxygen mask strapped to his mouth. Every bit of his strength was sapped from his body, leaving a weak form where Tensei once was.
The sight caused Katara's blood to run cold inside of her body, a horrible shiver crawling across her skin. Her hand came up to cover her mouth to keep her gasps under control. "What… what happened to him?" She stuttered out.
"We were able to stabilize him a few moments ago…" the doctor in the room said solemnly. "If we got to him any later, it would have been too late for him."
"Brother… brother!" Tenya yelled as he ran into the room ignoring the doctors plea for a mask. He gripped the side of the bed railing, leaning over his idol in horror. "Tensei, it's me!"
Tensei's eyes barely slid open, his weak breathing only coming in small gasps. "T-Tenya… is that… you?"
Tenya gave a fast nod in response. "Yes, yes I made it! You'll be fine, you are so strong!"
A small grunt escaped Tensei's lips as he attempted to turn his head. "I-I'm sorry. I'm… supposed to be someone you look up to. And now I…" He paused to catch his breath. His foggy eyes looked up to his panicked brother above him. "I am here. I couldn't… do anything."
"No, don't say that!" Tenya clenched his moistening eyes. "You are my hero! You will always come back from anything!"
"Sir, please give him some space!" the doctor grabbed the teens shoulder to pull him back, only for Tenya to shrug him off.
"Let go of me!" Tenya growled and leaned back to his brother. "You'll be okay! You are the one who taught me to be strong! Now you have to be strong again!" His eyes began watering as his breath became ragged. "You are my hero, Tensei!"
"Tenya…" Madoka struggled to keep herself from breaking down seeing her youngest son crying like this, placing her hand on his back to try and calm him. "Please… it's okay. He's safe now with us."
While Katara sat in silence as the two Iida members struggled to keep their emotions in check, she was feeling her own chest tightening at seeing Tensei hurt. She slowly walked into the room to join the trio, but was stopped by the doctor before she could get by the bed. "I'm sorry, but right now only family can come inside here."
"What?" Katara gasped in shock. "Let me through, I need to see him too!"
The doc shook his head. "I'm really sorry, but at the moment only those-
"Hey Katara…"
Katara and the doctor turned to see Tensei looking their direction, a small smile underneath the oxygen mask. "Tenya didn't say… how… was the festival?"
The doctor frowned and turned to the injured hero. "I'm really sorry sir, but policy is only family is allowed until you are cleared for the recovery room."
"I know…" Tensei coughed before he gave a small chuckle. "Can't you… see the resemblance?"
Katara felt her chest swell up to the statement, a warm sensation running through her heart as she couldn't help the few tears form in her eyes. She wiggled her way passed the sighing doctor and joined the other two by the bed, gripping the railing on the side and smiling down to him. "Hey… How are you feeling?"
"As good as… I can be…" Tensei wheezed out with a grin. "How about… you? How did the festival… go for you two?"
Katara chuckled at his question. "You really asking that now?"
Tensei chuckled as much as he could with his weak lungs. "I was… a little busy and I missed it. How did… you do?"
Tenya shook his head and smiled, wiping the few stray tears from his face. "We did good, brother. In fact, we both made it to the top sixteen. We actually faced each other in the first round."
The weak eyes of Tensei fluttered open to the statement, his hazy gaze trying to focus. "Did you? Now that… is funny. What happened in yo-
A powerful cough escaped Tensei's throat causing the others to lean over in panic. Madoka grabbed her older sons hand and squeezed it hard. "Baby, don't force yourself. Get some rest up for me, please."
Even through his coughs, Tensei gave a small smile. "Still… calling me that?"
Madoka sniffled a few times and smiled. "You're always my baby, sweetie."
Katara chuckled as well, reaching over and patting Tensei's shoulder. "I'm glad you are okay. When we were told at the school what happened, I was really worried."
"I'm sorry… for making you… worry." Tensei closed his eyes and pressed his head further into his pillow. "I… shouldn't have… tried to stop him alone."
Tenya's eyes widened when he heard that, looking down to his brother. "Who did this to you, Tensei? Who was it?"
"Excuse me…"
The group in the room turned to the doctor standing there, his hands now holding a set of files. "I need to speak to you about something important." he said to them before looking to Tensei. He took a deep breath and turned back to Madoka. "I'd prefer… if we discussed this outside."
The trio looked at each other in confusion to the doctors reasoning, but Madoka and Katara nodded and stood up to follow him out. Tenya however clutched the edge of the bed. "I would prefer to stay with him, sir."
Seeing the pain in the teens eyes, the doctor nodded and looked to the other two. "Let's go out here, please."
Katara followed the elder Iida out of the room, glancing over her shoulder to Tenya kneeling down next to the bed. She took a deep breath and shut the door, turning back to see Madoka pacing back and forth in anxious worry. Before the doctor could speak, the loud shout down the hall caught all of their attention.
"Madoka!"
Madoka's eyes widened when she saw her husband running towards them. "Toki!" She ran up and grabbed his hands. "Thank goodness you made it."
Toki panted and nodded. "I got here as soon as I could. Where is Tensei?"
"He's inside there. They were able to save him. He's safe now." Madoka smiled and rubbed her husbands hand. "Our son is alive."
"Thank god…" Toki exhaled. "Let me see him. I have to-
"Sir, I must talk to you all," the doctor said again. "This is about your son."
Toki glared over to the man. "It can wait. I have to go and see how he is-
"Sir… your son is alive, yes." the doctor shut the file he was looking over, exhaling out of his nose as he was unsure how to tell this. "He lost twenty percent of his blood by the time he was brought into the hospital. He's lucky to be alive after that alone. There were deep lacerations across his body, but the most serious was the one in his abdomen. The sword pierced all the way through from his back and out of his stomach."
Katara reached across and gripped her shoulder, feeling a sickening pain in her chest hearing the horrid details. She looked over to Toki and Madoka, the pair's faces twisting in fear and anger as they listened to the doctor.
"His small intestine was pierced as well, and that will need another operation to fully close the tearing. If we are lucky, that will be healed in about two to three weeks."
Madoka clutched her hand over her mouth as she held back the horrid feeling in her throat. She swallowed and gave a quick nod. "O-okay. As long as he just rests he can be back to normal soon, right?"
The doctor saw the hope in the womans eyes, feeling horrible to the things he had to say. "Ma'am, the sword… went directly through his spine as well."
A chilled silence fell over the group standing in the hall, their heart rates spiking to the horrible detail. Toki's breath began coming in deep gasps. "What? How bad was it damaged?" he quickly asked.
"The damage was very severe. His spinal cord…" The surgeon looked away for a moment. "His spinal cord was completely severed just above the waist."
A sharp gasp escaped Makoda's mouth before she stumbled back, her eyes watering as fell against her husband. "No… no no no. please no."
Katara felt her breath caught inside of her throat she stared to the older woman sobbing, the cries of Madoka echoing in the hall. The young waterbender rubbed her face to try and calm herself before looking back to the doctor. "So… you can… you can heal him, right? I- can call UA, I'm a student there. I can get Recovery Girl to come."
"Miss, I know Recovery Girl personally. She's a great colleague I studied under. But… this is something even she cannot fix." The wide eyes of Katara caused the doc to take a breath, but he knew sugarcoating it would only be more painful in the end. "The blade was… twisted in place and shredded the nerves there. Even after we fixed the damaged bones, the spinal column was damaged beyond repair. He has lost all use of his body below there."
"Below?" Katara's mouth trembled to the words of the doctor, her hand coming up and covering her mouth. The sobs of Madoka grew louder with every second, causing Katara's own heart to ache. "Do you… do you mean he…"
"I'm really sorry… but he will never walk again."
The words hit Katara's heart as hard as anything she had felt in her life. The strength in her legs seemed to fade away making her stumble backwards until she caught herself on the wall. Her breath came in quick gasps as she failed to calm herself. Her eyes stared blankly at the ground below, the thoughts inside her head jumbled and out of control to process everything happening.
The pain filled cries nearby pulled her eyes off the ground, looking over to see Madoka's face buried into Toki's shoulder. Her glasses had fallen on the ground, the woman's cheeks drenched in the tears that fell from her eyes. Toki was silent, but the pain across his face was more than enough to tell the torment he was facing internally. He pulled his wife to the side and guided her down on to the bench, stroking her trembling head to try and calm her down. The more he tried however, it seemed to only cause her to release more emotion.
Katara stayed silent to the troubling situation, walking over and sitting next to the crying mother. She reached down and placed a hand onto the Madoka's shaking back, adding to the comfort Toki tried to offer her. With her other arm Katara embraced herself, wanting some warmth to the cold feeling she felt inside. Her eyes stared down to her own knees, watching the few tears drip down and land on her own clothes.
Hours passed by until the hospital halls fell silent, the group of four sitting outside of Tensei's room on the row of chairs beside the wall. Once the doctors came in for another operation late that evening, the group was forced to wait outside until they had finished. By the time they were done, the sun had fallen long before that, exhaustion taking over the fearful family plus one and they could barely stay awake at this point. With Tensei knocked out for the time being, they chose to let him rest and see him in the morning. With that, they found whatever spot to get comfortable and closed their eyes for the night.
All except for one.
Katara tossed and turned in her space, the uncomfortable chair only adding to the frustration she felt inside herself. Her mind was far too tormented to relax that night, trying to pull the blanket over her head to drown out the light. When she did, her mind flashed with images of Tensei laying there, his wounds opened up and draining out blood. She clenched her eyes closed and tried to block out the horrible image, but when she did her mind played a different image, one she always hated remembering. The one image she would never be able to get out of her head.
Her mother's body lying there in their home.
Snapping her eyes open, Katara threw the blanket off from her body. She took several breaths as she felt sweat dripping down her forehead. No matter how long it has been since that day, she could never forget what happened. Even after finding closure with the hatred within her, the pain still remained to what she lost. And today, the sight of Tensei laying there brought those memories back.
Rubbing her face, she looked over to the sleeping family by her. Toki was sitting up with his head propped against the wall, his wife curled up against his side holding him tight. Tenya was sitting there with his back turned towards them curled into a tight ball on the end of the bench. She didn't know what Tenya talked about with his brother, but from the look on his face showed he knew the condition of Tensei as well. He had not said a word to anyone since he came out on his own. Katara turned towards the door where her caretaker was lying, unable to sit here anymore this night and walked over.
She took a breath and made her way inside, her heart aching once again when she saw Tensei lying there, his body barely illuminated in the dimly lit room. The light and constant beeping of the monitors next to him were the only sounds inside, his breathing even more faint than normal. Katara swallowed the hard lump in her throat as she walked over to his sleeping form, taking the seat next to him and smiled.
"Hey, hope you are feeling better." she said, knowing he wasn't going to answer. "Everyone else is out, but I couldn't sleep. I figured after today I would have been exhausted. The festival was really tough. You should have seen the match with me and your brother. Although I don't know if you would be mad after he kicked me in the stomach."
Katara chuckled to herself thinking of Tensei scolding Tenya for such a hard hit, the constant beeping the only response she got. "It was a good day. It would have been nice if you were there to watch us. I think you would have been proud." She took a deeper breath as she continued to stare at his sleeping face, her eyes slowly watering up. "You've been so kind to me since I came here, doing everything you could to make me feel welcome into your life. It's like…" She held her mouth to calm her breathing, her heart aching from her thoughts.
"It's like you treated me as family."
Katara hand trembled on the side of the bed. "When they came and told us what happened… I was so worried. I… was so afraid we would get here and you would be gone. It was such a good feeling when we heard you were alive."
A sharp gasp escaped her lips as she struggled to keep her breathing slow, several tears now dripping down her cheeks. "But what they said about your back. If you can't ever…" Katara reached down and gripped his limp hand. "If what they said is true… I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I can't imagine what is going through your mind right now, since you can't be a hero anymore."
She clenched her eyes and squeezed his hand tighter. "But I can't believe it. I won't. You are an amazing person and so strong, and I have to believe you can come back from this." She looked over and saw a large glass of water sitting there, wiping her moist eyes as she glared. "You helped me when I came here, and now I want to help you."
Katara leaned up and raised her hand up, bending the water up and over her fingers. She brought both of her hands together spreading the water over both, the bright glow of her healing illuminating the dull room. She lowered the shimmering water and placed it onto his injured hand, letting her bending go to work and treat the slash underneath the bandages. She exhaled slightly when she could sense the closing cut underneath, happy she was able to repay some of the aid that he had given to her. After a few minutes, she could sense the bonding skin underneath the bandages, pulling her hands away and looking to his stomach next. She took a deep breath and brought her hands down and placed it on his abdomen.
The skin on Katara's hand gave a slight shiver to the explosion of things she could sense. The surface wound alone was extremely large and deep, far beyond anything she had ever healed. The amount of damage internally was worse than anything she had ever seen before, several of his organs barely getting by in the condition they were in. This alone was so shocking to how he was still alive, barely clinging on in his state. She brought her hands lower passed the covered wound, but when she did her bending almost faltered, her breath catching in her throat.
"Oh no…"
Even when people were chi blocked, Katara was able to sense the injured nerves in their body, opening up the flow and freeing them from that locked state. With injuries she could feel the nerves firing and responding to one another, signaling to each other their recovering state. This was not the case here, though. When her hands descended passed the wound, everything went dark. There were no active nerves, no shifting in his muscles, and no response to her bending. It was as if… his legs weren't even there.
There was nothing.
"No…" she shook her head and brought her hands to the wound, focusing as hard as she could and closing her eyes. "That can't be it for you."
She didn't even focus on the flesh wound itself, concentrating on the void at the center of his back. The waterbender's hands hovered above the spot, the glowing grew brighter as the water spread down and over the bandages. Seeping across Tensei's stomach, the shimmering water encircled the wound encasing the area fully. Her hands flowed with the water, doing whatever she could to heal the gap separating the line of nerves. As she tried however, she was unable to sense any form of change with her power.
"Come on… please heal." Katara opened her eyes in fear, unable to keep the tears from rolling down her cheeks. "Please."
The minutes rolled by as Katara stood there with her hands over him. She did everything she could with her healing to repair the damage, hoping somehow she could save him. But as time ticked by, there was not a single nerve connecting back inside. After fifteen minutes, She was not anywhere closer than when she started, her hope fading with every passing second. Her hands shook as her breaths became more ragged, her eyes blinking rapidly to clear the tears pouring out.
"You took me in, and now I need to help you…" She stuttered out, struggling to keep her eyes open. "…Please."
After ten more minutes and nothing coming out of it, The glow began to fade from the water in her hands. Katara's legs weakened, causing her to fall back into the chair behind her in defeat. She let the water fall from her hands and splatter on the ground. Her troubled mind felt lost, tired, but worst of all, she felt defeated. Her healing was able to do many things, but here, she wasn't able to do anything to heal is spine. She struggled to breathe slow, reaching down and gripping his hand.
"I'm so sorry. I- I couldn't do anything." She gasped out and closed her crying eyes. "I'm sorry, Tensei."
…
…
…
"Why are you sorry?"
Katara's heart jumped to the voice, feeling his hand squeeze in return. She opened her eyes back up to see Tensei staring at her. Her chest swelled up to him being awake again, but she felt a wave of pain and uselessness. "I'm so sorry. I… I can't do anything to help you." she huffed out between breaths.
"Katara… this isn't… your fault. This is all… on me." Tensei wheezed out. "I was… a fool. I tried to stop… to stop him on my own. I wanted… to stop him from hurting others. And now… I'm here because I didn't ask for help."
"It's not fair…" Katara shook her head as she fought back the stream of tears. "It's not fair what happened to you."
"You can't be upset… with my failure. You have to be strong now for… everyone. Tenya will need… someone to keep an eye on him. Please… for me." He squeezed her hand a little tighter and smiled. "For my family. For… our family."
Katara's heart skipped a beat when she heard those words, her eyes widening in shock. "Wh-what? What did you say?"
Tensei chuckled quietly as he looked to her stunned face. "It has been… quite interesting since you arrived here. I had to take care of someone new. Teach her… teach her things about the world. Scold her when she broke the rules, and make sure she got ready for school. It… made me think… what having a little sister would be like."
That was the breaking point for Katara, her eyes unable to hold back the flow of tears any longer. Her pain filled heart began warming up to the best thing she had heard since she was stranded in this new world. She had grown closer to him and the others every day, and she had begun to feel that bond growing stronger. But for him to say it to her, it was something she never realized how much she wanted. She gasped for air through her deep cries but couldn't stop the smile that formed on her face.
She couldn't stop herself from leaning forward and wrapping her arm over his shoulder, crying into the crook of his neck. Tensei just smiled and placed a hand over her back, the sounds of the heart monitor intertwined with the soft weeping on top of him.
Outside the room, a single member of the three Iida members stirred slightly underneath the blanket covering his face and body. While he appeared asleep to everyone else, he was too distressed to fall asleep. Instead he was staring directly into the phone in front of his face, unable to remove his gaze from the smiling image of his brother smiling.
"Tensei…" Tenya whispered to himself.
It all seemed fake to him; showing up to this hospital he was expecting to hear his brother was injured but would be back to normal soon. Instead, he was given the worst news of his life, the fact his brother was never going to walk again. It was too much for him to take. His brother Tensei, the best hero in his eyes, was now going to be stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. It was beyond frustration as this point for him. What was surprising was the didn't feel sad anymore. Instead, his mind and heart were burning inside of his body, a pulsing sensation he could not get rid of no matter how hard he closed his eyes.
Rage.
Scrolling back go the internet browser, he searched for the man he heard his brother mention, the one he had encountered that day. When he did, his breath hissed out as he saw a single image of the grotesque looking man, blades littered across the villains body. Tenya's hand squeezed the phone so hard it was close to cracking, his blood shot eyes burning with a passion he had never felt before.
"I promise you brother… I will find him no matter what. I will make him suffer for what he did to you. I want him to know the pain are feeling. No… he doesn't deserve to live in prison."
Tenya's teeth clenched together in fury, tears of frustration falling from his eyes.
"I am going to find him… And I'm going to kill him."
Notes: OOh ohh boy. hope I didn't break your hearts there. This is definitely the most emotional chapter yet in the story. hope you all liked it.
Till next time!
