Jade: Beggin' on Your Knees
Jade thought it was time for a change so she dyed her hair black with green highlights. She loved it, but she didn't know how Beck would think about it. Despite that most opinions didn't matter to her, a few did and Beck's was one of them. This evening they had planned to spend some alone time in his RV and he would see her new hair color for the first time. Her mom and brother had told her that it looked good on her and she knew they wouldn't lie to her, but she was still nervous to see Beck tonight.
When she entered his RV without knocking, this was practically her home as well, she saw her boyfriend's eyes widened at the sight of her. She didn't know if this was a good or bad reaction, so she got defensive immediately.
"What? Never saw someone dye their hair? We have been friends with Cat long enough for you to know how it looks like." With her harsh tone she tried to mask the insecurity that she felt from his reaction to her hair.
At her words he shook his head. Smiling he went over to her to kiss her in greeting.
"If you hadn't said anything, I wouldn't have seen the change." He got a well deserved light punch for that, but still grinned at her. "But for the record, you look beautiful."
"Sap." Despite her words she smiled at him and pulled him into another kiss, this time a more passionate one.
With that a new school year started with a new hair color and a new problem in form of Ryder Daniels. Of course Jade knew the guy. Before she had dated Beck, she had been in a class with Ryder and he had asked her to write a script for a play with him. She had refused that and his overly annoying flirting right away, because she had felt suspicious about him. In the end he had done the project with someone else who was pretty good in this class as well. Something about his always changing girlfriends before an important project was still suspicious and Jade had tried to tell Tori that. Maybe not in the best way possible, but she had warned her.
When Tori didn't listen to her she was annoyed and acted as if she was still angry about Beck not telling her that he was born in Canada. Knowing that he would follow her, she left only to have him catch up with her smiling. Of course he knew that she didn't mean it, after all she had enjoyed her summer with him in his home country with his grandparents.
"What do you think of that Ryder guy?" Jade asked her boyfriend on their way to their next class. Beck just shrugged, so she continued. "He flirted with me as well before we began dating and I was already suspicious of him back then."
"You went out with him?" Beck's eyes widened and with satisfaction Jade realized the jealous undertone that laced his voice.
"Of course and we lived happy ever after." She couldn't help but tease him. "I'm with you, aren't I? For the record, I never went out with Ryder. I immediately refused him because something about him was off. Still is if you ask me."
"Maybe."
During their next lunch break when Ryder sat with them, because Tori wanted to spend time with him, Jade felt Beck pull her closer the moment they sat down. After a while she felt eyes on her and when she looked up she saw that Ryder was looking at her while Tori was distract talking to Andre. He was smirking flirtingly at her and Jade turned back to her salad in disgust, she really didn't trust that guy. Jade thought that no one had noticed that, but when Beck stood up and offered her his hand while telling her that he would buy her a coffee, she knew that he had clearly seen it. It was rare for Beck to not only be protective of her but jealous as well, so she valued these moments. Smiling at him she took his hand and they went over to the coffee cart.
"You're right I don't like Ryder either." Her boyfriend said as soon as they were out of ear-shot while they were waiting in line for her coffee.
Jade had to hide her smirk before she kissed him lightly, reassuring him that he didn't need to worry when it came to her. With Tori however it was completely different, she really seemed to fall for Ryder's flirting.
Considering that she already didn't trust Ryder from the beginning, Jade wasn't surprised when they found out from Robbie that he was using girls to get a better grade. They decided to split up and ask Ryder's ex-girlfriends if what they had heard was true. Jade went to talk to the girl that Ryder had asked after she had refused to work with him a few years back. When she had found her, the girl told her that after their script had been done Ryder had immediately broken up with her afterwards. So what Robbie had heard was true and Ryder was using the girls he dated for school projects.
When they confronted Tori about it she reacted as expected and Jade couldn't help but comment on it, after all she had warned her about Ryder from the beginning. What Jade didn't expect however was Beck's reaction. When he told her to sit on the steps for a time out she found herself doing it without protest. Her reaction was due to a combination between that she had to do that enough in her childhood so it was almost a reflex and the shock she felt that her own boyfriend had just treated her like a child. When the group worked on Tori's song she began to realize the situation and got up immediately.
Quietly she left the Vegas house and drove home, her mood between angry and hurt. Ignoring her brother, who asked her surprised why she was home, she locked herself in her bathroom and turned the lights off. Like this she could always think the best. Unbidden memories of her father putting her in a time out appeared in front of her eyes and she shook her head to get rid of them. It didn't help and she knew who she wanted to talk to right now.
Getting out of her house she drove to Cat, who she texted before that she was coming over. Her best friend let her in and didn't ask what was wrong and instead offered her that she could have a sleep over. That was one of the reasons why she valued Cat's friendship so much, she was just there for her and if she didn't want to talk about it she offered silent support. Before Jade fell asleep she thought that now it was a new school year, new hair color and guys problems not only for Tori but for her as well. Beck better fix this.
Beck: Beggin' on Your Knees
When they had finished the song Beck turned around to the steps only to find that Jade was gone. They had been so concentrated on making the song for Tori that he hadn't even noticed that she had left. Everyone had split up to ask Ryder's ex-girlfriends, so Jade had arrived in her own car and just met him here, so she was free to go home whenever she liked. However they had planned that she would stay over tonight, so it was strange that she was gone. She couldn't be mad about the time out, could she? What she had said to Tori was uncalled for after Tori had just found out that Ryder was only using her, but then again his girlfriend had warned Tori about the guy. He was pulled out of his thoughts when Andre said goodbye to the rest of the group, so he would at least be there for the end of his grandpa's birthday party.
Soon after his best friend, Beck left as well. When he was back in his RV he tried calling Jade, but she rejected his calls. Then he texted her, but she didn't answer. If she was mad at him for the time out she would have answered one of his calls and screamed at him for doing that, but she just ignored him. That worried him, because the only two other times she had done that had been when he had kissed Tori in improve class and when he had basically agreed with Andre that she was a gank. Both times he had hurt her deeply and he didn't want a repeat of that. Now thinking more about it, that she had gone without saying anything spoke volumes about how she was feelings about the situation. He had done it again, he had hurt her. Tomorrow he would go over to her house and see how much damage was done due to his words.
The next day he drove over to Jade's house, but to his surprise not his girlfriend but her brother opened the door. Normally him and Beck got along. When he spent the night here they often played video games together while Jade wrote a new script and if someone asked him, Beck would say him and Jade's brother were even friends. Considering that, Beck was all the more worried when the youngest West only greeted him with a harsh 'what' in a tone that would have made Jade proud. When he asked if Jade was there he told him 'no' and that he should leave. From his behavior Beck could guess that he knew what was bothering his sister, so he could try to find out what was wrong from him.
Reluctantly the boy let him enter after he asked nicely and when they sat down on the couch Beck asked him if he knew what was up with Jade.
"You tell me. She came home yesterday and immediately locked herself in the bathroom and refused to come out. When she is like this she is hurt and assuming you were with her all day yesterday it has to be your fault. Again."
Beck almost winced at the last word, maybe he had really messed up again. He told Jade's brother about what had happened yesterday and saw the look on his face darkened when he mentioned the time out.
"You know how much Jade hates it when someone tells her what to do and still you did that. You know who used to give her time outs when we were younger? Our father. She hated it because he had that control over her. What you did probably reminded her of that. She must really love you to not break up with you over that." With that said the youngest West left for his room, leaving Beck to his thoughts.
So he had messed up even more than he had thought, that much was clear now. Beck didn't really know what to do, well apologize obviously, but he didn't know how. Deciding that he would cross that bridge when he got there, he drove over to the place Jade would surely go to when she was upset, Cat's house. The redhead looked critically at him when she saw him at her front door. She wasn't as openly angry at him as Jade's brother had been, but Beck could see that his girlfriend had confided in her about what he had done wrong. She told him to sit down on the couch and wait before she went upstairs, probably already guessing why he was here.
A few minutes later Jade came into the living room, her arms crossed over her chest in a defensive position and her eyes unreadable. She greeted him with a harsh 'what' that reminded Beck of the one her brother had given him half an hour ago. The West siblings were quite similar in their gestures without knowing it, but Jade's brother learned from the best after all.
"I'm here to apologize. I'm sorry. I talked to your brother and he told me what a huge mistake I made by giving you a time out. I didn't meant it like that. I know-" At the word time out he saw her eyes flash in anger and hurt and she didn't let him finish.
"You don't know anything if you think giving me a time out and that in front of your friends and Cat was a good idea. You tried to control me and you treated me like a child that didn't behave the right way. I'm your girlfriend, not a child. If you think of me that way and that is your solution when you think I say something inappropriate I should reconsider being your girlfriend."
Jade's words were aimed to hurt and they reached their goal, because now Beck was feeling even more guilty.
"Look, I'm really sorry. I didn't know why I did it. I know you're my girlfriend, if you still chose to be, and not a child. It was wrong of me to treat you like that and I'll never do it again. Promise. Please believe me."
Beck saw Jade think about it and when she sighed annoyed he knew that she was considering to forgive him.
"Fine, but if you ever give me a time out again or say something like that to me we're over. I mean it."
When he embraced her he felt her tense up for a second or two before she relaxed and returned the gesture. He knew that he wasn't fully forgiven yet, but he was on a good way. After they pulled away Jade called for Cat to come down so they could all go to the Full Moon Jam together. When Cat appeared right away Beck had a feeling that she had overheard their conversation. The two best friends shared a look and Jade nodded slightly at Cat. It seemed to be a silent conversation between them that Beck would probably never understand, but he was glad that Jade had such a good friend in Cat.
At the Full Moon Jam Jade's mood seemed to brighten when Ryder got embarrassed in front of the whole crowd, Jade just loved revenge. When Beck saw his girlfriend smiling and cheering he was relieved and hoped that they were back on good terms again. He had made a mistake and he surely would never do that again to her. He loved her and she deserved to be treated like the woman she was and not like a child.
