A/N: this is a story I wrote almost two years ago now (december 2021) so I apologise if the quality is not the same but it still holds a special place in my heart so I thought I would post it here. Also any recognisable dialogue or scenes belong to JK Rowling, I am merley borrowing these characters for a little adventure I do not own them.
Hinny
Ginny Weasley clung to her mothers hand as the group made their way through the packed Kings' cross station. Jealousy tugged at her heart as she walked with her brothers knowing that they would be going to Hogwarts and she would have to stay at home for another year. It hadn't been so bad in previous years but now Ron was joining the others and she would be well and truly alone. Ginny had never been alone - not really anyway. Growing up in a house with six older brothers meant zero privacy, she'd hated it at times but now that they were all leaving she wanted nothing more than for them all to stay.
"Now what's the platform number?" Mrs Weasley asked in a loud voice, testing her children.
"Platform 9 and 3/4!" Ginny piped up, squeezing her mothers hand in slight excitement. Despite her jealousy she did always love to see the Scarlett train and she was excited for Ron.
"That's right dear, now come on."
"Mum, can't I go?" Ginny asked for the thousandth time, she had been dreaming about Hogwarts her entire life. Her older brother Bill was born in 1970 whereas she was born in 1981, the eleven year age gap between them meant that Ginny had been told stories about the castle from her literal birth and she could not wait to attend herself.
"You're not old enough Ginny, now be quiet" Mrs Weasley dismissed and Ginny began to zone out as her mother directed her brothers onto the platform. Jealous and bored she huffed, eyes scanning the station in an attempt to take her mind off things. Her eyes caught sight of a boy, not more than a year older than her. He looked lost and desperate and Ginny wondered if she ought to approach him and ask him what was the matter.
Although she did not have to contemplate it much longer as he began to push past people to approach them himself. "Excuse me" he said nervously.
"Hullo dear" Mrs Weasley said kindly, "first time at Hogwarts? Ron's new too."
Ginny sighed at the reminder that Ron would be leaving soon. She hated the fact that she would be alone for a whole year, Ron was her best friend and she wished more than anything that she was going with him.
It turned out that the boy with the messy black hair was lost after all and Mrs Weasley instructed him on how to get onto the platform. Ginny watched him go with a blush in her cheeks, she thought that he was quite cute and daydreamed absentmindedly about sitting with him on the train if she was going that year.
On the platform things began to get hectic as her brothers rushed about with their belongings. Ginny giggled as Fred and George teased Percy about being a prefect and contemplated blowing up a toilet. She thought that she would miss Fred and George the most of all as in the summers she loved to cause mischief with them.
"Hey mum guess what? Guess who we just met on the train" Fred said as Mrs Weasley ushered them towards the train.
"You know the black-haired boy who was near us in the station? Know who he is?" George added.
"Who?"
"Harry Potter" they chorused.
Ginny's heart leapt, that was Harry Potter? Why he was a hero, like the knights who fought Dragons in the muggle story books her dad had gotten her. Harry had defeated you-know-who at only one years old, he must be incredible.
"Oh mum can I go on the train and see him, Mum oh pleaseā¦" Ginny asked, tugging on Mrs Weasley's robe sleeve.
"You've already seen him, Ginny, and the poor boy isn't something you goggle at in a zoo" she began but Ginny had already stopped listening and was pouting. Ron was going to get to go to Hogwarts this year, and with Harry Potter no less!
Ginny watched wistfully as her brothers ran to board the train, sadness filling her at the prospect of spending the year alone. Tears spilled down her cheeks as she waved them off running alongside the train. Although she did manage to let out some giggles too when Fred and George shouted to her that they would send her toilet seat.
During the journey home she thought about Harry Potter and how beautiful his green eyes were and sighed wishing she had gone up to him in the station after all.
Scorily
Lily Luna Potter gripped her father's hand tightly and squeezed her eyes shut as they drifted through the solid looking wall at King's cross onto platform 9 and 3/4. It was her first time coming to the platform as in previous years she had been left with her Grandmother along with her cousin Hugo. As they stepped onto the station Lily's eyes widened in wonder and she dropped Harry's hand in favour of running forwards to get a better look at the train.
"Oh wow" she breathed "Mum can I go?"
Ginny Potter's eyes twinkled with nostalgia as she looked down at her daughter "I'm sorry dear, you're not old enough."
"It's not fair mum!" Lily whined, her brother Albus who was a year older than her would be going to Hogwarts this year along with James who was three years older. Lily was desperately jealous and longed to be going herself.
Ginny leaned down and hugged her daughter tightly "This year will fly by and soon you'll be going yourself, I promise. I felt the same way when your Uncle Ron went to Hogwarts."
Lily smiled "thank's mum, i'm going to go find Hugo'' she said and then she wandered off. At least her and Hugo could wallow in shared jealousy this year as his sister Rose would be going to Hogwarts with Al.
She had just spotted Hugo and began to run towards him when she slammed straight into another person who was just walking off of the train. She shrieked and screwed her eyes shut as she waited to fall to the floor but the fall never came. Instead she felt arms around her waist as the person she had ran into caught her. She blinked open her heavy eyes and met another pair of eyes filled with concern.
"Are you okay?" The boy asked and it took Lily a moment to answer as she found herself lost in his eyes. She had never seen ones that colour before, they weren't quite grey - weren't quite blue and they twinkled in the sunlight.
"Err yeah, thanks" she said blushing as red as her hair and letting it fall in her face as a curtain.
"I'm so sorry!" He said genuinely running a hand through his white blonde hair.
"It's okay!" Lily said "I ran into you so I should be sorry."
The boy smiled at her, "I'm Scorpius."
She liked the way his name sounded. "You have a pretty name!" Lily blurted out before throwing a hand over her mouth in embarrassment.
Scorpius grinned lopsidedly and Lily's stomach did a backflip "That's something i've not heard before'' he said.
At that moment Lily heard Hugo calling her name. "I've got to go" she said to Scorpius "but im Lily."
"Lily is a much prettier name" He called out as she moved from behind the pillar they were standing behind. Lily flushed again and quickly jogged over to Hugo.
When she found Hugo she realised her mum and dad had gone to stand with Ron and Hermione too. Uncle Ron was talking to Rose and Lily noticed with surprise that he was pointing out Scorpius to her. "That's Scorpius Malfoy, stay away from him but make sure you beat him in every test Rosie, thank god you inherited your mothers brains."
Malfoy? Scorpius was a Malfoy? She'd heard stories about a man who must have been his father - Draco Malfoy - and she couldn't help but think Scorpius was nothing like that. He had stopped her from falling after all and he had said she had a pretty name. She watched with sadness as her brothers and cousin Rose left to go board the train. "I wish we could go" Hugo said sadly.
"Me too" Lily replied although she realised her reasons for wanting to go had expanded and now included one Scorpius Malfoy.
