Hinny: 2nd year for Harry, 1st for Ginny
Harry grimaced as Lockhart released the iron grip he had on his shoulder. Sometimes he hated being Harry Potter. He'd only been trying to buy his books for school when Gildreoy Lockhart had cornered him and making a scene, insisting Harry take a picture with him for the newspaper.
He sighed with relief as he moved away from the man only for the relief to melt away when he came face to face with Draco Malfoy. "You loved that, didn't you Potter?" Draco spat. "Famous Harry Potter can't even go into a bookshop without making the front page."
Harry clenched his fists at his sides, willing himself not to punch the boy straight in the face. He was just opening his mouth to retort when to his surprise Ginny stepped forwards. She was much shorter than Draco but she didn't hesitate to glower up at him with fury in her eyes.
"Leave him alone," she said dangerously. Harry blinked, he knew Ginny had a crush on him - Ron had told him as much - but the girl had barely spoken two words to him in the past few weeks he'd been staying at the Burrow for summer. She got so nervous that most of the time she blushed and fled from the room at the sight of him yet here she was without an inkling of fear defending him from Malfoy.
Draco smirked, unfazed by Ginny. "Oh look Potter, you've got yourself a girlfriend." He mocked.
Ginny flushed but went to speak again when Draco's father arrived. Harry didn't need anyone to stick up for him but he still felt a rush of gratitude towards Ginny for doing so. He'd been bullied his whole life - mostly by Dudley and his gang and he still wasn't used to being defended.
"Thanks Ginny" he said to her later on when they were back at the burrow "for telling off Malfoy."
Ginny blushed but didn't run away like normal. Instead she carefully chose to sit down in the chair opposite him and nodded "It was nothing."
Scorily: 4th year for scorpius, 3rd for lily
Scorpius was walking down the corridor with Albus - his best friend - the two of them complaining about the divination lesson they had just had.
"I can't believe that old bat predicted my death again" Scorpius moaned "she did that last year!"
"My Uncle Ron told me she predicts a student's death every year" Albus said "it's like her thing."
"Yeah but you think she'd at least mix it up a bit and not pick me again. You'd think she's got it out for me or something" Scorpius grumbled.
"Don't worry mate" Al grinned, clapping his friend on the back. "If you ever die by getting clobbered with a crystal ball I'll make sure Trelawnys investigated."
Scorpius opened his mouth to reply but was distracted by the scene he saw in the corridor they had just entered.
A boy in the year above - Owen Mills was shouting at Lily "Watch where you're going!"
"I'm sorry! It was an accident" Lily said.
"Well sorry isn't good enough, I've got ink on my robe now." Owen complained, it appeared they had bumped into one another and Owen had spilt the inkwell he had been carrying.
"I really am sorry" Lily repeated and began to walk away when Owen muttered "stupid bitch."
Lily started, anger seeping into her. It had been accident! There was no need to call her a bitch! He could vanish the ink with a wave of his wand anyways. She whirled around, ready to retaliate but before she could Scorpius and her brother stepped in.
"What did you just call her?" Scorpius said angrily.
"A stupid bitch." Owen said, crossing his arms angrily.
Albus fumed "There's no need for that Mills! Watch how you talk to my sister!"
"Apologise to Lily" Scorpius said through gritted teeth "right. Now"
"Or what?" Owen sneered "gonna call your death eater daddy on me?" Scorpius paled and took a step back, he hated being reminded of his family legacy. He'd struggled to make friends in his first year because so many people avoided him due to his family name. He was so glad he had Al and Rose, they didn't judge him and they'd stick up for him when people were nasty.
Owen laughed coldly at Scorpius' reaction. Albus opened his mouth to defend his friend but before he could Lily stepped forwards proclaiming in a dangerous tone "leave him alone!"
"It's only the truth" Owen said pompously, smoothing out his robes "his father was a good for nothing death eater and he should be rotting away in Azkaban. This one too" he said, jerking a thumb back at Scorpius "he might not have done anything yet but he's got bad blood, the apple never falls far from the tree. I'd be careful who you associate with in the future Potter, don't want to be seen as a traitor like your Slytherin brother."
Lily was furious, Scorpius should not be punished for his family's actions and she was sick of watching him be treated badly for something he had no say in. Not to mention the dig Owen had thrown at Albus too. Before she could think about it any further she had launched forwards and punched the older boy straight in the face.
A loud crack echoed around the corridor as Mills clutched at his now bleeding nose. "What the hell?" He said thickly before practically sprinting off away from the trio.
"Lil!" Albus said, shocked, "that was bloody brilliant."
Lily smiled but it quickly changed to a grimace as she felt pain rush into her knuckles where she had hit him.
"Come on," Scorpius said, inspecting her bruised hand with gentle fingers, "I'll take you to the hospital wing."
They said their goodbyes to Albus and walked together in silence for a moment before Scorpius spoke "Why did you do that? I don't want you getting in trouble for me."
"Mills is a git, he was asking for it. It's not true what he said" Lily began "My dad told me about your dad, he might have been a prejudiced idiot at school but he was just a kid when your grandparents made him join the death eaters. He didn't have a real choice. And he had no right to insult you, you're not a bad person Scor. He's the prejudiced git - not you."
Scorpius smiled at Lily "I didn't expect you to defend my dad as well as me."
Lily shrugged "I believe people can change, he can't be so bad if he raised you."
Scorpius blushed filled with gratitude at her defence, he didn't know what he had done to deserve friends like his. "Thanks Lily, for punching Mills and what you said. You're scary when you're angry and you've a mean right hook."
Lily smiled and it reached all the way up into her green eyes "It was nothing." She said.
