Chapter 10 Black and White:Odyssey Of Despair Part 1

Everyone was trying their best to enjoy themselves on the ferry as they tried to kill time for the next few days. The group decided to split up to explore the ship. Onxyia went off by herself to explore.

While Blake and Aruna explored the ship with Neo close behind them. But Bombay kinda had some trouble while on board the ship. While Yahto stayed with her to make sure their other feline friend didn't go overboard.

Neo seemed a little excited to be on a boat as she walked around the ship. But more like she was running around exploring the ship. She made sure not to bump into anyone while she ran around the ship.

Blake and Aruna followed the girl but she stayed close enough they could keep an eye on her.

"Seems Neo is enjoying herself, you think she ever been on a boat?"aruna questioned as Blake looked at the girl in question.

Right now Neo was looking over the side of the ship. She leaned against the railing as the girl took a deep breath of the air. Then exhaled it seems while her two colored eyes where filled with wonder.

The girl had a child like wonder and curiosity to her sometimes. It was nice seeing something like that, because despite how bad things can get. Their always new experiences that can create new memories weather they be good or bad.

"Maybe she hasn't, theirs a first time for everything"blake replied as the two faunus kept walking after their friend. Neo was ahead of them while they talked

"So how is jazmine lately I haven't heard much from her?"aruna questioned

"Shes…alright, right now she's probably messing around or something back home"Blake replied quickly. She didn't know if Aruna and her parents knew about Jazmine missing leg. That the entire thing was her fault still.

Soon enough Neo turned a corner and she seemed to accidentally bump into someone. They heard a grunt as Neo fell onto her back. The two rushed over to her seeing if she was alright and who she bumped into.

"Neo are you alright?"blake asked as she kneeled down to help the mute.

The girl looked at the cat faunus as she rubbed the side of her head. Then Neo gave a thumbs up with a small smile letting her know she was okay. Though Aruna was busy helping the other person she knocked into.

"Ughhh my head"a voice said that sounded female.

The two faunus looked to see a girl their with pale skin, she seemed to be in her late twenties, her eyes were dark brown, her hair was chocolate brown that was medium in length. She wore a white dress shirt underneath a navy blue hunters dressage tailcoat. The coat had gold buttons with gold trim all along it. The top button was undone which showed a bit of clevage it seems.

Her lower half consited of a pair of dark brown pants. The buttons on it were silver in color and she had on some pirate gloves it seems that were dakr brown with gold trim. She wore some black cavalier boots.

She had on a belt with a small brown pouch on her hip. The belt in question was brown and her weapons that appear to be a cavalier sword. Along with a pistol from the looks of it. It seems to be a dust shot flintlock.

"Oh were so sorry about that you okay"aruna quickly apolgized.

"Yeah…though my back will be sore for a bit"she replied as she shook her head rubbing it.

"Here let me help you up"blake said as she offered a hand.

The girl reached for it and took blakes hand as she helped her up from the deck.

"Thanks uhh"the girl begun but Blake along with aruna introduced themselves along with Neo.

"Oh i'm Blake Belladonna"blake introduced herself to this girl neo ran into.

"And i'm Aruna Khan her cousin, the one you ran into is Neoplotian."Aruna added

Though Neo kept bowing to the girl repeatedly apolgizing it seems for running into her. The girl just chuckled a little at this putting her hand on the girl head telling her to stop.

"Its quite alright, though since introductions are needed I'm Elise Cotten. "The girl itnroduced herself as Elise.

"Its a pleasure to meet you Elise"blake replied

"Same here though you seem to be a huntress judging by your getup. You here for a mission?"elise asked as she looked at Blake getup

"Oh no huntress in training actually but still a huntresses none the less."Blake corrected

"A trainee huh ah I remember those days"Elize added as the four started to walk down the deck toward the back of the ship.

"Really are you a huntress?"Aruna questioned with the girl nodding to her humming.

"Yeah me and my buddy mordercai here help with ships hired by the captain to protect the ship from grimm. Captains a great guy by the way, you'd like him."elize replied

The four continued to the stern of the ship. Their was alot of people back here from the looks of it. They were all eithe rin casual clothing or dress wear by the looks of it.

"Alot of people on a trip to menageri"aruna pointed out with their being alot of humans back here. Some seem to glare at the faunus around the ship though.

"Nah were stopping by Menagerie first then were off to mistral apperently some of the people here are on from some big company"elize replied

They probably could guess which company judging the dirty looks their giving the faunus of the ship. Their probably from the Schnee Dust Company maybe. Thought Blake suspicions were confirmed seeing one of them with a company pin on his shirt.

It was a small snow flake pin with the words SDC on it. Which meant they were employed under Weiss father probably. Which beg the question she hopes the heriness is okay right now. And not suffering more abuse from that devil of a father.

"Hmm well so why you three heading to menagerie?"elize qeusitoned as they stopped near the side of the ship.

For a huntresses she sure does ask alot of questions it maybe she get bored on these long voyages. You never know who you might meet on these trips.

"Just visiting some family and ….breaking some bad news"blake replied with a hint of sadness in her voice. Neo looked over the edge as she stared off the side at the ocean.

Elize looked a little upset to hear thats what their trip is. She sighed a little rubbing her neck. But soon she had a small grin and crossed her arms under her bust.

"Well not every visit can be a good one, thought if it means anything sorry for your loss"elize replied wisely

"Umm thank you"blake replied quickly as her ears flopped a little.

Neo then grabbed her scroll out as she typed away at it. Then once she was done she tapped Elize on the shoulder. The girl turned to the mute to see what she had on her scroll.

"Thank you"neo text read and Elize smiled a little.

"Let me guess she can't speak, not thats a problem or anything"elize asked and quickly made sure she didn't mean to offend them.

"Yeah, apparently her vocal cords didn't develop probably if I recall. "blake added

"Well thats a darn shame, though don't worrie kid I know ASL. So your in luck you dont gotta type away on that scroll of yours. "Elize replied

Elize then cupped her chin studying Neo for a second"But you remind me alot of my little brother actaully"elize added

"Really is it because she short?"Aruna joked as Neo glared at her. Then she pinched the bengel faunus tail.

Aruna yipped a little as she held her tail, rubbing it. She looked at Neo who stuck her tongue out and Aruna did it back.

Blake rolled her eyes as Elize laughed at the two at their antics

"Man first new people I meet and you all are an interesting bunch. Nah he was just deaf is I gotta get going catch you later"elize said as she walked off in a different direction toward the ship.

"Well she seems nice"aruna added as she continued rubbing her tail.

"Yes…though we should be careful who we interact with. We don't know if some people are putting on a mask to hide their real intention"blake warned.

They agreed on that as the three kept exploring the ship near the stern. But avoided the snobs that seem to hate faunus on the ship from the looks of this was going on Bombay and yahto were walking around the second level of the ship.

The floor of the ship seemed to have a small bar like area near the back of the ship it seems. Which some stairs led to from below.

Not many people were up their, maybe their not in the mood to get drunk on the ship yet. Probably not wanting to spill their guts out just yet.

Once back their it was a simple bar you should see on a ship. Their were seats bolted to the ground near the railing you could sit at. Along with that a countertop that was dark brown in color. It had bar stools their that had red leather seating on it.

Along with that was the wide variety of beverage most of them being alcohol. But their seemed to be a wide variety of fancy liquor containers behind the glass case of the bar. Their was also a small speaker above the bar suggesting the captain probably talks to the crew and passengers that way.

Behind the bar was a man in a navy blue dress shirt with a black vest. He wore a gold bow tie on his chest. Along with that he had tan skin with black hair that was cut short. Along with black dress pants on and brown dress shoes. He had yellow eyes along with a small scar on his seemed to be in his mid twenties.

He was busy polishing an empty glass while a man sat at the bar. The man had a crystal like bottle filed with liquor it seems.

The man seemed to be in his early thirties judging by his appearance. He had tan skin with black hair that was hidden underneath a olive green durag on his head. His one eye was light pink it seems while the other had a knife slash over it.

He wore a hamish canvas waistcoat that was jet black with silver buttons on over it he wore a brocade pirate jacket. The jacket in question was dark brown in color. While it had white trim around it. On the right beast pocket was an octopus brooch that was silver in color. He wore a pair of brown pants that went with a pair of buccaneer boots colored black.

On his back was a large rifle it seems. It looked to be a springfield rifle colored in all black with silver decorating the barrel and bolt. Along with the trigger and scope. The scope was a telescopic scope that covered most of the rifle.

Bombay groaned a little as the ship rocked a little back and forth it seems. Some of the waves seem to have picked up as they splashed against the side of the girls face looked like she was sick or ready to puke it seems. Her face was a little green it seems.

"Umm you good their bombay?"yahto aksed concerned because she looked sick.

Bombay looked at him without emotion of what do you think face. The cat's faunus face told him she looked like she was ready to spill her guts out right now. As they walked he noticed the bar and maybe they had something to help her out.

The two walked over the man at the bar took one more drink from his bottle before face planting onto the counter with a loud thud. He snored a little laughing to himself as his the bottle he had clank to its side.

The bartender rolled his eyes as the man did this and looked at the two approaching his counter.

"Oh hello their what can I get you today."he asked with a chipper tone.

"Umm do you have something to help her she seems uhh"yahto said as Bombay took a stool at the counter. Then she layed her head down groaning as she held her head up. The bartender chuckled because hes seen this before.

"Seems your friends got sea sick…not used to traveling on boats yet?"he asked looking at bombay.

"I'll be fi–"bombay begun but then her cheeks puffed up as she looked around for something to puke into. The bartender then quickly reached down as he pulled a small waste bin up. Then he jogged over around the counter toward the girl.

Then she keeled over as she wretched puking into the bin. As she did both yahto and the bartender looked disgusted at the sound the girl made. After a few minutes bombay seemed to stop and he left the bin their for her.

"Umm do you have anything that may help with sea sickness maybe"yahto asked

"Yeah I got just the thing an old family recipe of mine"he replied as he started to grab some bottles from down below as he did he talked to yahto.

"So you two traveling to menagerie or mistral?"he asked

"Um menagerie"yahto simply replied as he took a seat at the counter.

A clinking of bottles and glasses could be heard as the bartender stood back placed a bottle on ginger ale on the counter. Along with some seltzer water, and a small bottle of apple juice.

Then he brought out a small glass cup setting it down, it clinked a little when it was set on the wooden counter.

"Really interesting well you two make a beautiful couple"the bartender complimented as he kept making something.

But the two looked at him horrified right now. Bombay turned her head quickly looking at the bartender at his assumption. Before she could say anything she wretched again puking into the bin.

"Umm were not a couple more like friends in a way"yahto replied

"Oh my mistake sorry sometimes I just assume things"he quickly apoglized.

"Its…no…problem…god I hate ships"bombay said as she held her head over the bin.

Soon enough the man was finishing what ever he had. He had a bottle of seltzer it seems, with some ginger ale, along with a small bottle of apple juice. He pour all three drinks into a glass. Then he scooped some ice cubes from a freeze underneath him.

Then he pour all of them into one and put an umbrella with a straw in it.

"There we go for my mom's special sea sickness drink. Here you go ma'am"he said as he placed the drink on the counter. Then he slid it over to the cat faunus. She grabbed it studying it for a bit.

She gave a few sniffs of the drink and raised her eyebrow. Then she decided to try whatever this guy made her. She placed her lips on it and decided to drink it.

The girl took a few small sip then her eyes lit up a little. The girl sat at the counter as she continued to take a few small sips from her drink. It seemed to be working as the cat faunus tail swayed around like crazy it seems.

The bartender laughed a little as he started to clean up the mess he made.

"Well seems your drink work"yahto complemented it seems with the bartender winking at him.

"Hey thanks umm"bombay tried to thank the benefactor for helping her with sea sickness.

"Desmond Capri at your service ma'am"the bartender introduced himself with a mock salute.

"Thank you Desmond….so been here long"yahto asked to start some conversation. Might as well get to know the crew to pass some guy seems pretty nice judging by how he acts.

"Oh, been with this ship for a few years now, captains a great guy,"Desmond replied as he cleaned up the glass he used.

"Hmm really seems pretty nice if they allow faunus on the boat"yahto added

"Yeah most boats don't allow faunus anymore since what happened with the white fang. Shame their just assuming their apart of a group of scoundrels"desmond replied a little sad it seems.

Though they do have three white fang members in their group. All being retired or defectors of the white fang. But he didn't need to know that.

Soon the man next to yahto at the bar woke up hiccuping a little. He sat up as he rubbed his head a little as he swayed in his seat for a bit.

Then he laughed a little looking around"oh hey kiddio….you want an autograph?"he asked with slurred words.

"Umm no thanks i'm good uh–"yahto began as the drunken man stood up offering a hand.

"Modercai Octo….deadeye and sharpshooter of…the seas"the man replied shaking yahtos hand introducing himself as modercai.

"Nice to meet you sir"yahto replied as mordercai smiled a little.

Then he got up as he stumbled a little. But the man caught himself as he started to walk down the side of the ship. As he did and out of earshot Desmond sighed heavily which caught yahtos attention.

"What's up? You don't like the guy"yahto asked

Desmond shook his head"no he's a decent guy, and hes served with the captain's ship for years. The guy been going through some stuff lately"Desmond replied

"What happen is he okay?"bombay questioned

The bartender set the glass he was cleaning and looked at the two" Rcently he lost his wife and daughter during the fall at Vale."he replied as the two looked at him.

"Oh i'm sorry for his lost"bombay replied sadly as she continued to sip her drink.

"Don't worry the guys just going through some stuff. Though….he just needs time. But dronwing his sorrows in booze aint gonna help yah"desmond replied as the two sat their wondering if this modercai was going to be a problem in the future.

A few hours later near the bow of the ship Onxyia was leaning against the railing looking over at the deep blue sea below her. She sighed looking at it as her tail swayed a little while she sat their.

Shes excited to go see her parents again and maybe xander got out of vale. Maybe he changed his mind about heading back home. Though one thing worries her is the thing her colt, neo and sienna talked about.

The wolf faunus agreed to break the news to nadia since she was the one to hear his last words. But right now she felt like she couldn't do it. The wind blew by as the sun was starting to set in the west.

The sky was orange and hazy now with hints of blue in the sky. The sun crested over the ocean making a bright orange haze reflect off it. As she stood their she heard a pair of footsteps approaching her and her ears twitched.

The wolf faunus turned over to see a man coming toward her.

He looked at him and he seemed to be a blurry man that was tall but a little shorter than her it seems. He also seemed in his late fifties as he wore a blue captains coat that he had buttoned up. But his chest bulged a little suggesting he had some muscle to him. His hair was sliver with hints of black in it. Probably sighs of his old age. His eyes were deep sea blue and he wore long white pants with a black belt. He wore a white and black captians hat with a gold anchor symbol in the middle on his head. He had a silver grey beard on his face that was bushy. He had on a pair of white gloves it seems.

"Well hello their ma'am traveling alone I see"he said

"Umm no i'm traveling with some friends and family"onxyia shyly replied as her ears flopped slightly.

The captain put his hands on the railing infront of him as he looked over the edge at the sea.

"That good traveling by yourself can get lonely at times. Sometimes a loved one or partner can make those long voyages enjoyable"he replied

"You can say that again, though not really looking forward to the end of this voyage"onxyia said, seeming to be confined to this random stranger.

The captain seemed to raise an eyebrow at the faunus girl troubles it seems.

"Why that dear, why take this voyage anyway?"he questioned with a gruff voice it seems.

"I don't even know at this point"onxyia replied as she picked up a necklace from her was her silver cross necklace with zanes laughing skull necklace.

She looked at the two necklaces frowning a little, remembering their time together. Everytime she wants to let go she just can't. He made her feel special in a way no one else could.

when she was little she got made fun of for having dual traits. Which didn't really help with her confidence about her traits.

Mostly by humans who harassed her when she left menagerie sometimes faunus how she wasn't a normal faunus. They were rare at times to be treated like dirt from your own kind.

"Aye I know that look dear, you got some troubling news to deliver"the captain said knowingly.

This made her chuckle a little at the old sea captain next to who smiled a little at this.

"You're not wrong…even though I agreed to deliver it. I'm regretting it"she replied

Why did she even decided to confiden her feeling and worries right now. She could have done this with blake maybe or sienna. But they probably just give her advice on how to handle it or say something nice to feel better.

"Well dear you may feel regret right now for having to deliver it. But i'm sure they'll be happy to hear it"he replied

"No she won't, she'll probably hate my guts for the rest of her life. "Onxyia begun as the old man listened to the girls worries.

"I don't even though why I agreed to do it last week. Even when I get back home I don't have the heart to tell his mom that her son is gone. "Onxyia continued staring at the necklaces around her neck with a sadden expression.

"To tell her he's gone again because he thought he deserved to die. I'm also worried about my other girlfirned how she grieving right now. But he left me with a hole in my heart….that could never be healed"onxyia finished as she looked over the side of the ship.

The old captain breathed in then exhaed as he took a deep breath from a stove pipe. As he did he blew it out his nose then puffed his stove pipe a few times.

"Sometimes dear the ones we care about or loved are the hardest to grieve over. But I can tell you from experience that you'll heal one day. It'll just take time"the captain replied

"Really how long will that be until I became old"onxyia replied annoyed a little.

The captain shook his head laughing a hearty laugh.

"No dear not that long, though you just need to remember the good times you had with them. Cherish them till the very last day, along with all the memories you made together. "The captain began.

"Though having to break the news to a mother is a hard one. But you'll just need to calm, relaxed and explain it to them they lost someone. Don't get into the gritty details of it just let them down gently"the captain finished with a stoic face.

This made her look at him a little because his words seem to have gotten through to her. She sniffed a little as she rubbed her eyes as a small tear came. The captain noticed this looked at the girl.

"You alright dear?"the captain questioned as he brought his hands behind his back

She composed herself as she shook her head then let the necklace in her hand fall to her collided together making a small noise.

"Yes…just thank you for those words um–"she began to thank the old ship captain.

"The names Buckley Forten. Captain of The Jackelope"Buckley ansered before bowing to her.

"Nice to meet you sir i'm i'm Onxyia Blair"she quickly introduced herself.

"Thats a wonderful name dear, now enjoy your trip. Try to look toward the positive right now for your voyage"Buckley replied givign a hit a little tap.

The man started to walk off and Onxyia thought about the man advice given to her. He seemed to provide some decent advice actually. Though that pain in her chest was still present and it was going to very hard time trying to tell her.

Though right no she decided to head back to their room to probably get some rest for tomorrow. As headed back deep in the ocean near the darkness. Something swam underneath the water at alarming speeds.

All that could be seen was a tail like fish that swam through seaweed and rocks under the water. All that was seen was a pair of red crimson like eyes from the water. That glowed in the darkness.

Later in the night on another part of the ship Eliza was looking around for her partner mordercai. That man always wanders off when ever she needs him. At this point it was starting to get annoying. He knew the guy lost his family recently but shes just trying to help him.

As she walked around the deck of the ship she could smell the distinct odor of booze it seems. The huntresses continue to follow the smell to the source who sat in a chair passed out drunk it seems.

Modercai layed their sprawled out in a chair leaning back. His mouth was wide up as he snored loudly. In his right hand was a bottle of liquor it seems. She sighed before pinching the bridge of modercai nose.

The man moved around a little as he was in mid snore. Then it stopped before he stirred awake jumping up a little as he did. He rubbed his one good eye as he wondered where he was.

"Ughhh what time is it?"modercai asked lazily as he looked at the night sky.

"It's almost midnight right now, seriously modercai come on man. Sober up we got a job"Eliza said in a serious tone.

Mordercai groaned as he rubbed his head and looked at the bottle in his right hand. He lifted it up to drink from it but Eliza stopped him.

She snatched it from his hands as she looked into it. Of course it was empty drunk idiot drank the entire bottle already. How many has he had now.

"Oh c'mon Eliza i'm fine…see"modercai said as he began to walk slowly. As he did he stumbled a little as he swayed right to left. Then he stopped as he held his arms up in his success.

Though she wasn't impressed with his little walk"totally you are, look if you wanna talk about them. You can–"she begun but modercai looked at her with an anger expression.

He told her not to bring them up right now and she took it quickly it seem. But instead she decided to change the topic to something else before he goes on a rant about killing the one who did it.

"Besides that meet any interesting passenger on today voyage?"elzia aksed as she took a small chair and modercai did too.

He scratched his chin trying to come up with answer. Then the drunk sniper looked at her, narrowing his one good eye.

"Yeah a couple…kid name yahto…he seemed nice. Though he's never heard of me and my sharpshooting skills"modercai replied proudly.

Eliza chuckled a little as she leaned back staring at the night sky. She looked at all the stars out in the sky and smiled a little at this. Then she put her hands behind her head.

"Hmm well your the illusive Modercai Bones deadeye from vacou. Apparently able to hit a small walnut with nothing but a paperclip"elzia replied sarcastic.

"Hey it wasn't a walnut it was a peanut….or was it a button"modercai tired to recall that little tale he came up with.

"Who knows, but I met a few interesting passengers a few kids it seems. One was a mute, two of which were faunus."eliza replied

"Oh yeah…they nice?"he questioned as he scratched behind his ear.

"Yeah, though seems their journey will be delivering bad though, but lets do our best to make sure everyone voyage here goes smoothly"eliza replied

"I'll drink to that"modercai said as he got up from his spot to look for said drink. But right now desmond locked the upstairs bar up. Which meant he wasn't getting a drop of liquor. Eliza sighed as she went after her drunk friend.

Meanwhile In their room everyone was sound asleep. Though Bombay spent a few hours in the bathroom due to her sea sickness. That desmond guy gave her a bottle of ginger ale to drink. But she seemed better since she was fast asleep on her bed.

They all were in their own beds Yahto slept on the couch it seems the best he could. He had a pillow on the couch provided by coles bed.

Colt was sound asleep on his bed sprawled out as he let out a small snort in his sleep. Sienna and Verde were both sharing the same bed. Verde wrapped his arms around his wife while she slept in front of him.

Up top in the small cots the girls where all asleep. Though Onxyia seemed to accidentally grab Aruna from behind. She held the girl like a teddy bear it seems as her face was in her clevage. But her cousin was fast asleep.

Neo slept soundly on her side as she had an arm under her pillow. While Blake tossed and turned in her bed for a bit before finding a comfortable spot. Then she seemed to fall fast asleep soon enough.

But how long until their peacefully slumber and voyage will be disturbed by something furious. Because the reef their going through for a quicket way to menagerie has claimed several ships. Some have made it through the reef while others haven't.

This chapter was an interstinf first part with the introduction of some of the crew and its captain. The group got to explore certain parts of the ship to kill some time. Buckley, Eliza, Modercai and desmond are my own oc' for reading!
