Chapter 17 Black and White:Past Trauma

It was early in the morning as Onxyia woke up from her bed. The sun hadn't rose yet and she careful got out of bed. Then she got herself changed and armed with her weapons as she strapped it to her back. As she walked toward her door to leave she looked at the laughing skull necklace on her table. She sighed before grabbing it and putting it around her neck.

Then she carefully stepped out of her bedroom and began to walk downstairs to the living room but she was mainly heading toward the front door. Her goal was to go check on Nadia real quick. Cole said it was bad before and she wanted to make sure the women didn't do anything drastic.

"Your up early little cub"declan voice came from behind her as she turned to face her father.

"Oh hey dad, yeah just thought I get up early. "Onxyia replied as she reached for the door handle.

"Hmmm then why are you armed?"declan questioned as he leaned against the door frame.

"Well we never know when white fang will attack again. It wouldn't hurt to go for another walk"onxyia replied nerovusly.

Declan huffed a little"dear your going to go check on Nadia. My guess is your worried that his mother did something drastic. "Declan stated

Onxyia only sighed annoyingly knowing this was a losing battle with her father.

"Yes, its just last night she looked like she lost everything. Colt explained how bad is was last time. "Onxyia begun as her tail slowly swayed.

"I don't want to make sure shes alright, along with maybe seeing if she needs help with…grieving. Cardin probably helping vel since i can't"onxyia replied

Though her wolf faunus of a father rubbed his eyes as he stood their. "Alright, i'll come with you"Declan said to his daughters surprise.

Why exactly would be come with her. Yesterday he said alot of choice words about Zane. Saying how he was a monster and a murderer. Does he feel guilty or is their another reason hes coming.

"why….I thought you didn't like hi–"onxyia begun but declan stopped her as he grabbed a sword on a wall mount. The sword in question was a ring broadsword that was quite large. Along with that it was grey on the handle with the blade being sliver. Though the handle had a wolf on it opening its jaw ready to bit engraved on it. Along with a black and white piece of cloth tied around the handle.

"I did, but from that message I heard last night. "He begun as he sheathed the sword on his back.

"It seems he cared for all of you, the boy was just scared. The decision he concluded was terrible in my opinion. "Declan said as he opened the door and a click being heard.

Then he motioned for her to head outside and she slowly made her way past her father. Then declan slowly closed the door behind them. Once outside it was still rather early in the morning but it wasn't dark out as the crisp air blew slightly as Onxyia led her father toward nadia house.

"But what about you and mom, shouldn't you being grieving about Xander?"onxyia question because she was still a little hurt by the news.

The man took a deep breath as he looked toward the sky as they walked. The night sky was still out and it illuminated them. Along with most of the surrounding in the town.

"Yes….what happened to your brother is upsetting. Right now I wish I was a better father to you two"declan replied

Onxyia looked at her father concerned what he meant by that exactly. He may get mad sometimes but he always let them be themselves at time. Along with protecting them the best he can.

"Why would you say that, you never hit us, abused us or said you wish we were dead"onxyia replied

"I know, but when I thought I should let you two make your own decisions. I thought I was doing something right, but when both of you joined the white fang. At a moment I thought I made a mistake and I should have stopped you from joining"declan replied as they continued to walk.

"Along with that when you came back upset that night with Blake. I was a little happy you left that group. Though when you told me what happened"Declan said as he stopped walking and so did she.

Her father just stood their for a bit as he tried to compose himself for a bit. Then he sighed heavily as he covered his eyes.

"That you blamed yourself for helping that villain Ollie kill that little girl"Declan replied as Onxyia flinched a little.

She recalled that day and it was horrible. That night was also when Xander was their along, she remembered how terrible it was.

Flashback about a year ago

It was a silent night on the island of menagerie. No one was awake at the time since it was late. Though walking through the market district. A pair of figures where walking toward a medium size house that was near the woods.

As they did one was taller than the other who was a little shorter. But the taller one cloak showed a tail their along with some ears on top of it. She held her side gripping it a little. Though the other person noticed this and had a somber expression on her face.

"Onxyia relax…it'll be alright"blake reassured her friend.

Though she wasn't relaxed she was still scared about what she did in vacou. She helped with so many scouting missions with Akasha. They scouted so many towns thinking they were just going to do peaceful protest at first. Because Ollie reassured them they wouldn't do that.

That they try and change things make humans view us not as monsters. But that was just another one of his many lies. The man was a compulsive lier at times. He try to spin the story to see how it could benefit you or himself.

After a bit more walking they got to a door. Onxyia stood their watching it with a worried look.

"Look…how can I relax"onxyia said quietly whispering to blake.

"Its not your fault what happened to that little girl"blake reassured.

Onxyia groaned quietly as she covered her eyes"what do you mean its not my fault, I helped scout possible targets for them"onxyia replied

"Yes, but you should have known they were killing people. They were know to do that to get their way"blake retorted.

Onxyia just shook her head as her tail swayed angrily underneath her cloak.

"I know that, but Ollie reassured me we weren't going to be doing that. "Onxyia replied as she held her side.

"But that was just another one of his many lies. I trusted him….we were like family at this point."onxyia said loudly enough to wake someone inside up.

Although their seemed to be someone up as a light flicked on in the living room. This scared the girl as she backed up a little hoping it wasn't her parents. Hoping it was just xander staying up late like usually.

Soon enough the door could be heard being opened. A small click could be heard as the door opened. Their in the doorway was declan in some long pajam pants with a black t-shirt on. It was close to midnight at the time and the man wasn't awake.

"Who are you? What do you want at this time of night"declan questioned as he studied their faces.

"umm…I made a….terrible mistake"onxyia replied nerovusly with her voice shaking a little. Blake placed a hand on her shoulder to reassure her. As declan knew who that was in an instant. He slowly reached out pulling the hood down.

Their he saw onxyia who had a sadden expression on her face along with regret. She looked tired and looked like she hasn't slept in two days. Which she hasn't because she could't stop thinking about what ollie did that little girl.

Before she knew it her father embraced her tightly in a protective shell. The man closed his eyes as he held his daughter close. He had a small smile on his face seeming happy to see his little girl again.

"Its okay little cub….its okay"declan reassured as she returned the embrace. She began to cry a little because the embrace felt warm a little. Like her worries just melted away right now, along with wanting to see what she can do to redeem herself. Blake stood by slightly smiling but looked toward the large house on the hill. She sighed heavily as she waited for her friend to talk to her parents.

Present

That night when she came back she told her parents everything that happened. How she felt guilty that she helped murder people. She thought she made the right choice to help all faunus everywhere. Along with maybe finding somewhere to belong because of her dual traits.

When she was little she was made fun of having two traits but some of the purblooded faunus. She never understood why they did it but it hurt her. Ollie was her friend back then and offered her a place that accept any faunus into their group.

Their she made countless friends their that being Akasha,jae, Blake and Ilia. But now she seems to have lost her brother and one of her friends. Along with that Blake lost her arm because of her. And now her friends girlfriend is scared that if she leaves she could end up dead.

"Your right…I still think its my fault sometimes. Maybe if I made a different choice I wouldn't have gotten this scar"onxyia begun as declan listened.

"Or if I checked on xander he and ben wouldn't have gone to that dust robbery. Ben would still be here alive and happy. Then their me getting trapped and having blake scarfiece her arm to save me. "Onxyia begun as she clenched her fist trying not to cry.

"Maybe if I didn't get hurt I could have convinced Zane…to come with us. That maybe their was a way to help him. Him and the others helped me back at that dam construction yard from killing ollie"onxyia replied as declans eyes widden a little.

"Maybe If I killed him….then none of this would have happen maybe"onxyia finished

She stood their silently looking down as Declan sighed heavily. He put his hand on his daughter shoulder to reassure her. She felt it as she looked up at him with sadness in her eyes.

"But you didn't, if you killed him then you would have been no better than him. In ghira words you made the right choice, killing him would just mean he won. Sometimes the choice we make we will have different outcomes"he said wisly as they continued to walk.

They walked for a while while he gave her some words of advice and some wisdom.

"Though their is always something bad or good from the choices you make. You may have helped scouted those town but you decided to not just stand by and do nothing. You decided those people needed to be protected"declan said as he looked at her.

"Yeah….most of them did live that day. Alot of them were very grateful for what I did"onxyia smiled a little.

"Then there you decide not to kill ollie, what do you think would have happen if you did?"declan asked knowingly.

Onxyia looked down a little as she tried to think of a appropriate answer to his question. She thought how if she did her friends would have viewed her as a murderer. But she decided to not be like him and in the end it did result in something plesant.

She had someone who seemed to care about her, who checked on her in the middle of night worried. Although she did have a small crush on the guy at the time she just wanted someone close to her right now. Making that choice result in the two getting together.

Which was pretty nice actually, she thought he did it out of pity. But he didn't seem to mind at all that she was ex-white fang, a faunus, having two different eye colors, along with other baggage.

"That my friends would view me as a murderer, then I would have gone to jail"onxyia answered.

"Your right, though the other decisions you made. You did what you thought was right, you'll never know what consequences your actions will bring."declan said as they soon stopped in front of a medium size hut

The front of the house was like all other houses in menagerie. It was had a grass covered roof on top along with wooden walls. Their was a window that had curtains on it. But a light could be seen on right now which meant someone was awake.

The two wolf faunus walked over to the door and on the side of it was a name plate. It read nadia walker on it. Onxyia looked at it sighing wondering if she should just knock. As she stood their her father placed a hand on her shoulder gently reassuring her. She looked at him as he smiled gently nodding to her.

Onxyia slowly raised her hand up as she knocked gently on the door. As she did someone came toward the door it seems. The two waited as the unlocking of a lock could be heard. Then the door was opened to reveal Zoey their.

She looked a little tired as she wore a black crop top in some orange long pajama pants.

"Oh hey…what brings you two here?"zoey asked softly

Onxyia grabbed her tail stroking it"we came to check on you…see how your doing"She replied looking down.

Zoey groaned as she rubbed her eyes at this"heh your two had the same idea as Colt huh?"Zoey replied

"He's here right now?"declan asked as he crossed his arms.

"Yeah, apolgiizng to her for not convincing him to come back. Mom been up all night, came here to keep her company."Zoey replied sadly looking inside.

Then she looked at the two looking down rubbing her eyes"look if you wanna come inside, just…be patient with her"zoey said as she walked inside.

The two followed her inside as declan gently closed and locked the door behind them. As they walked in onxyia looked at the walls with some pictures frames their. Alot of them looked pretty old some of them dating years ago.

On one of the walls it was a picture of a younger Nadia with Sienna it seems. Along with two other people in the picture who was Amber and that Polar bear faunus. They all seemed happy in the photo from the looks of it.

But their was also severely photos of her and some others in them. One was her with some type of boxing belt as she held it proudly in the air. She almost forgot the women was championship boxer. Along with one of her with her two kids which looked old.

As they walked they heard colt and nadia talking. Well it seemed like colt mostly from the sound of it.

"Nadia dear you need sleep, please you've been up all night"Colt begged.

"I'm fine….I don't wanna go to sleep"nadia replied groggly.

Colt could be heard sighing"dear I know it's tough that he's gone. But their are people for you here to help you"colt replied

Nadia groaned as the smacking of a table could be heard. The three looked at each other as they listened for a bit.

"You think I don't know that….I cared for him and Zoey like they were my own. Both of them didn't have anyone to go to because of those dam slavers."nadia replied lazily with saddence in her voice.

"When I first lost him I blamed myself, I thought he'd be safe at home by himself. But when I came back to the gym on fire all I thought about how it was my fault. I was such an idiot back then"nadia said beating herself down.

Onxyia sighed as she decided to walk ahead, zoey tried to stop her. But the fox faunus was really tired after staying up most of the night to keep an eye on her mother. She was heart broken too because they just lost two more members in their little family.

"It's not your fault miss walker"onxyia said as she got the two attention. She looked at colt who seemed a little awake. But looking at nadia she had on a medium blue sweater on with a pair of black jeans on. Her eyes had large bags underneath them.

Nadia sighed sadly"what do you mean kid"nadia asked a little annoyed

Onxyia walked inside the room noticing a steaming cup of coffee on the table. As she did she also noticed zanes weapons layed out on the table in front of her. The case was off to the side opened.

She took a seat near the women looking at her with a sadden expression. Then the other two joined them as they stood their silent for a bit.

As they sat their in silence for a few minutes nadia spoke up.

"Kid what do you mean and why are you here?"nadia questioned again looking at the girl

"To check on you, I wanted to make sure nothing bad happened"she replied softly.

Nadia scoffed a little"why…aren't you upset about your brother being dead?"nadia replied

Onxyia closed her eyes because deep down she thought he might be actually dead. But it wouldn't make sense because how would ollie know if their dead. It could be another one of his lies again. But theirs also the chance he could be dead.

"I am…more than upset heartbroken actually. I've lost two people I care about in the last three weeks. But part of me hopes he still out their alive. "Onxyia said as this got a bit attention.

"How would you be sure….Ilia said he was killed dear"declan added

"Yeah kid, maybe that ollie guy did kill him."colt suggest somberly.

"I don't really trust Ollie and what lies he says. He…probbaly lied to Ilia that he killed them. Probbaly used them to make an example of the white fang. But.."onxyia begun as she looked back how happy nadia was when she saw zane again.

"Their might be a chance he could be alive. You maybe lost hope thinking Zane was alive….but now he's actually gone again. I feel like its like my fault….if I didn't get hurt, I could have stopped him."onxyia added looking at nadia

"But sometimes we don't know what actions our choices will lead to. Zane could have come with us but he was scared. That if it happened again he'd probably hurt me, you,zoey or anyone he cared about."Onxyia added

"So what…I could have helped him. I may not know shit about genetics, but hell I try to find a might of been someone willing to help me hell his uncle had contacts to help him. But now he's gone. "Nadia replied lazily

"Along with that what does he have to show for it"nadia added as she stared at the weapons moving her hand along them.

"The news slandering him saying that he was some sleeper agent or something. Calling him a murderer for some dumb robot and labeling him as a monster"nadia added as she clenched her metal hand.

Onxyia sighed as she covered her eyes trying to think of what she could say. Maybe something that could change her mind about why he did it. But she thought of something that could work.

"That the actions he took was to protect you. He probably wouldn't forgive himself if he did something to you or right now…it'll take time to mourn over him. Although their are people here to help you who know the truth."Onxyia simply said

Nadia sighed heavily as she thought about what the girl just said. She sighed as she glanced at the weapon and started to pick them up. The tiger faunus placed the dual swords in the box then the dual revolver. Then she picked up the katana looking at it then at onxyia.

"You know…you ever swing a sword kid?"nadia asked confusing everyone what she meant by that.

"No…why?"onxyia questioned as nadia started to walk over with remorse in her hands. Then the women held it out to her which confused the wolf faunus a little.

" you…don't need to give that to me. I already have his necklace keep his–"onxyia begun but the women stopped her.

"Look….i'm very upset right now about my boys death right now. But it seems you two cared alot for each other same with that rabbit. "Nadia said looking down, sighing.

"Though you coming here right now giving this dumb pep talk about choice and shit. Reminds me that I had a choice to give up those two to an orphanage or raise them"nadia begun smiling a little.

"At first thought it was a terrible idea because I could never raise any kid. But i'm happy I did it and that I gave them a decent life. Zoey is second in command of menagerie royal guard for remnant sakes"nadia said as zoey chuckled a little.

"Yeah…though pretty hard to do that when your pretty young."zoey added as she smiled a little.

"Where are you going with this Nadia?"colt questioned confused

"Yes I thought you'd like to have all your sons belonging to remember him by"declan added,

Nadia closed her eyes taking a deep breath right now"right now I could keep this sword locked up, where it could never see the light of day. But instead maybe instead I would rather see it in the hands of someone who knows how important it is. Use it to protect his teammates that are still alive and your girl, like he did."nadia said, motioning for the wolf faunus to take it.

She reached for it slowly as she hesitated for a second. But she gripped the handle of the blade tightly. Then she unsheathed it slightly as she looked at her reflection staring back at her. If shifted a little as she saw zane face it it. Then she sheathed it, closing her eyes.

"Love you wolfie"zane voice echoed in the back of her head.

Onxyia sighed as she handed it to her father for a second. He held it for her as the girl turned to nadia. Then she went over hugging the women in a tight embrace. The tiger faunus returned it sighing a little as she patted the girls back. They soon let go of each other.

"I'll make sure to do that ma'am."onxyia replied as the tiger faunus nodded a little happier it seems.

"Now if you'll excuse me….i'm going to take a nap."nadia said as she layed down sideways on the couch. But she sighed a little as they began to leave she said something to them.

"I'm still hurt over my sons death, but why don't you and maybe neo come by sometimes. "Nadia said as onxyia nodded. She and declan decided to leave and let the tiger faunus sleep. As they the two decided to head to the belladonna house to see how things are.

Meanwhile while this happened another person was awake at the time thinking to themselves. That was Neo as she sat outside early in the morning looking at the night sky. She was wondering how long it'd take for nadia to grieve for Zanes death again.

But she also thoguht about her siblings and her father. That Vance was starting fights over her cousins death. How vance tried to save him but he wouldn't allow him. That he stayed behind so he could live along with fighting off Adder.

Their entire team had hurt her entire family at this point. The first was threatening her and her siblings so her father would follow their rules. The second would be making her father roman hijack an atlas airship. Then it was making her cousin kill someone on live television.

After that her father scarfied himself to save the people of vale. Which some seemt to respect it seems, because he might have been a thief. But he did it so he could provide for them. Although right now she misses both of them deeply right now along with her siblings.

She knows where her brother is right now. But right now she didn't even know where her older sister was. She could also be dead for all she knows,she just wishes that everything was back to normal.

As she quality sat their soon someone clearing their throat above her could be heard. Neo looked up slowly to be met by jazmine glancing over her. The ex criminal just titled her head wondering what she wanted.

"Hey you good?"jazmine asked as she took a spot next to Neo.

Neo just stared at her shaking her head no as she buried her face into her knees.

Jazmine looked at the girl with a somber look as she sighed looking at the broken moon right now. It was a little cold right now and she wondered where neo went. She felt her get out of bed not that long ago.

"look…I may not know your cousin or anything about your family."jazmine begun as neo sat their.

"But I know whats its like to miss your siblings"jazmine replied as neo slightly looked looked at her with a soft gaze wondering if she would say or text anything. The ice cream haired girl contemplated for a second before speaking.

"I do miss them right now, they were like the family I never had"neo signed

"Hmm I bet, you seem to care about them alot despite not being related"jazmine replied as she two sat their.

Neo gave a small smile because she did care about them. Unlike her mother and father who she despised since that day and what they did to her. Along with the abuse they gave to her because she wasn't the perfect little girl.

She was born without the ability to speak and they wanted a girl who could represent their family. But she couldn't do that and they hated her for that. But then one day they did something terrible to her. They paid a driver off to drop her off in the middle of Vale.

The driver did and she tried to find her way back. But she was barely seven years old at the time. Along with it being winter time in Vale, she was cold, scared and alone. She spent about three days looking for her was until she wounded up in an alleyway near some apartment. She tried to find a safe place to go for warmth since she couldn't find her parents.

But their was a blizzard going on at the time which made it hard for her to navigate through the snow. She eventually collapsed and probably had hypothermia since she wore a dress that could barely keep herself warm.

Though the next thing she knew was that someone picked her up and carried her off somewhere. Next thing she knows shes in a hospital room with some mask on her face. Then once she woke up to roman greeting her.

He tried to communicate with her but relzied she couldn't speak. Though he gave her a notebook to communicate with. She told her his name and he asked where her parents was. At the time she said that she hated her parents to him. He asked why and she explained how they abandoned her. This seemed to enrage roman and he offered something.

That he could come with him instead which made her hesitate for a bit. But that was before someone came in to the room that day to check on him. It was Nadia trying her best to make sure Lazuli and Vance didn't tear each other heads off. She asked him who they were and he told them they were his kids. Which did make her confused for a bit but she seemed to consider it. It was probably better than her other accepted it and he asked for her name. Neo decided to not to go by trivia vaniile but by Neopoltian for her new life.

"I did they gave me a better life than my other parent ever did"neo signed

"Really? What happened to them if you don't mind me asking?"jazmine asked

Neo thought for a moment before deciding to tell the girl. She needed to vent and the girl was offering.

"Their somewhere in Vale after abandoning me in the middle of the winter"neo signed slowly

Jazmine went wide eyed at that"they did what?"jazmine said carefully not trying to shout.

"Who the heck would do that to their own kid seriously thats messed up"jazmine added stunned a little. Then she looked at neo waiting for her say something else.

Neo then signed to her again"though I did meet my new family after that. We all came from different backgrounds. But despite that we cared for each other like we were blood related"

"Thats really sweet, but your probably worried sick about them right now aren't you?"jazmine asked

Neo nodded her head yes as she sighed"I'm glad I know where vance is but he should't be starting fights. He must be really hurt from dads and our cousin death"neo signed

"Yeah, though your sisters probably still out their still. I'm sure right now shes trying to find you before she comes here"jazmine added

She was right maybe lazuli thought she didn't get out or something. But yahto said he told her before the ct tower went down. Which meant she was either doing a job or something else. But she just hoped her sister got here soon.

"Maybe, but thats what siblings do for you. They look out for you no matter what"neo signed

Jazmine chuckled a little as she looked at her prothesetic leg frowning a little. Neo picked up on this and tapped the girl. She looked at neo wondering if she was okay.

"Hmm oh its nothing just remembering when I lost my leg. "Jazmine replied

Neo raised an eyebrow"what happened to your leg?"neo signed

Jazmine sighed heavily as she leaned her head back agains the wall"me and blake were going to disrupte a protest in some village against a anti faunus group. After a bit of time Adam ordered the village to be burned down and then teach them what it means to mess with faunus"jazmine begun.

"At that time I was starting to think what we were doing was right. When grimm came we tried pulling out but i stopped to save a family. When i did a grimm grabbed my leg then tore it off. Blake managed to save me but she blamed herself for what happened. Saying how she was a terrible big sister"jazmine replied

"But she wasn't, it was my choice to save those people. I was pretty upset that I lost my leg, but I pulled through. Blake wasn't here to help me because she felt guilty about what happened. Along with over worrying about me thinking i'll get hurt. "Jazmine added

Neo tapped her shoulder signing to her"but thats what siblings do, they care about you no matter what. Older siblings especially think its their job to protect you no matter what"neo signed

Jazmine smiled a little"yeah I know, figured that out not long after. But i'm sure your siblings miss you too right now. Their just taking their time, i'm sure they'll come here soon"jazmine reassured.

This made neo smile a little because she was right. Her siblings are still out their somewhere. Vance in Vacou getting in fights apparently, which is what he usually did. She just hoped he stops and finds something to help him. Then theirs her older sister, where is she and what is she doing. She's just hopes she safe.

Jazmine soon stood up as she cracked her back and a loud crack could be heard. As she did Neo also got up rubbing her eyes a little. The sun was starting to rise soon and they went inside to get dressed.

Though as she did she smiled at jazmine a little for their talk. She appreciated it and maybe she should thank her sometime. But she'll have to come up with something. The two then decided to relax while they waited for breakfast to be ready along with everyone else waking up.

It seems everyone found their own shoulder to lean on for their new trauma they acquired. Though nadia gifted remorse to onxyia hoping she can use it to protect their teammates like he did. Thanks for reading!
