Yu-gi-oh/RWBY Season 2 Chapter 1
A new Threat
Neo had enough of this. She already had plenty on her plate already as the new head of Security, what with Cinder gone. She didn't need to deal with an obelisk falling out of the sky not too far from the city. But, let it never be said she wasn't a woman of duty. She handled her responsibilities with style, grace, and refinement.
As she approached the crash site in her helicopter, she saw 3 cloaked figures near the obelisk already, ordering several of her men around. Oh great, she thought. What am I dealing with now? Once the helicopter landed, she marched out in an admittedly uncharacteristic lack of patience towards the trio. "HEY! This site is off-limits by the authority of the Security Bureau! I'm going to have to insist you leave this instant!"
The three turned to look at Neo and in so doing, sent a chill up her spine. One, no taller than a teenager, looked at her with a great deal of amusement, as though her pants were down. The next tallest, about her age, seemed determined to kill her through his hostile glare. The last, and the biggest, seemed to look right past her. This figure walked towards Neo, causing her to have to strain her neck to look eye to eye with him.
"You are the new head of Security?" he asked in a raspy, almost metallic voice. Neo gulped and re-summoned her strength. "Yes, I am Neo Politan. And you are?" He gave a small bow to her. "Jose. These are my...associates, Lucciano and Placido." He gestured towards the other two before turning back to Neo. "We are the leaders of Iliaster, and thus, your superiors." Neo, remembering who Iliaster was, straightened up and gave a salute, trying to hide her panic. "Ah! Forgive me for my previous behavior. If I had known who you were, I would have never-" Jose lifted a hand to silence her. "What's done is done. Now, have your men secure this area. We have work to do." Neo nodded and turned to her subordinates, relaying Jose's orders. Jose, meanwhile turned to look at the obelisk and nodded. Yes, much work to do.
...
Officer Trudge, though now Special Investigations Chief Trudge (though he never got used to that title), rode the elevator with a bit of nervousness. It didn't feel right, what he was about to ask of them, especially after all they had done for the city. But, unfortunately, he had no choice.
The elevator, as if sensing his resolve, finally arrived at its destination. Trudge stepped out to see the office of Ruby Rose and Pyrrha Nikos, the new leaders of the Arcadia movement. Trudge had never had any strong feelings one way or the other about psychic duelists, though the Arcadia movement was suspicious in his eyes, especially Roman Torchwick. But under Ruby and Pyrrha's leadership, things seemed way more legitimate.
Ruby noticed him and got up from her desk. "Trudge! What's up, big guy?" Pyrrha looked up and gave him a nod before returning to her work, clearly drowning in paperwork (a plight Trudge could relate to). "We haven't seen you in forever!" Ruby continued. This reminded Trudge of his reason for being here. "Well, I wish I could say I was here under more pleasant circumstances." This grabbed Pyrrha's attention as much as Ruby. "What's wrong?" Ruby asked.
"We're receiving reports of some mystery duelist running around Daedalus Bridge and forcing people into duels, and being pretty brutal with those who refuse or lose to him." he explained. "I've heard the rumors. They call him 'Ghost', right?" Ruby responded. Trudge nodded. "Well, I was hoping that you could help us put a stop to this guy. I mean, my men are good, but something about this 'Ghost' makes me think that I need someone who's dealt with dangerous duelists before. Someone like you."
Ruby started to pace in front of her desk. "I'd love to help, but between starting up the Arcadia Academy and getting ready for the World Racing Grand Prix with Blake and Yang, I don't really have the time to help find some rumor. Sorry." Trudge sighed. "Yeah. Don't worry about it. I'll deal with him myself." As he left, Ruby turned to Pyrrha, hoping to hear her say that Ruby should have accepted the request, but Pyrrha seemed to be even more engrossed in her work, seeming to avoid Ruby's gaze. Ruby returned to her desk, resuming her work.
...
Trudge rides along Daedalus Bridge, contemplating his conversation earlier. He should have realized that he was asking a lot of her, practically admitting that he was helpless. Well, no longer. He was gonna show that he could handle this guy on his own. And right on cue, someone matching the description of the "Ghost" was coming up behind him. Showtime, punk.
...
Ruby rushes to the hospital, finding Weiss, Whitley, Blake, and Yang already there. Trudge is being carried along in a stretcher, covered in bandages and bruises. Ruby feels like she's about to throw up. Trudge notices her and motions for her to come closer. As she does, he barely whispers out "Don't use synchros…" before he is carried away.
Pyrrha, who arrives later, tries to comfort Ruby, rubbing her shoulder. "Ruby, it's not your fault." Ruby stands up. "Yes it is. He asked for my help and I pushed him away, saying I was too busy." She walked towards the exit. "Where are you going?" Pyrrha hoped she didn't already know the answer to that question. "To find the 'Ghost' and stop him." "Wait." Ruby turned to see Yang, who was followed by Blake. "We're coming with you."
...
The signers patrolled Daedalus Bridge for hours, looking for any sign of the "Ghost". After a certain amount of time, Blake breaks up the radio silence. "He's not here. He must have disappeared." Ruby started to protest but Blake was quick to stop that. "We'll get him. Just not tonight. Let's head home." Ruby, despite her feelings on the matter, was about to do so when she noticed a duel runner coming up behind her. She was finally going to put a stop to him. "I found him. Circle in on my position!"
The "Ghost" was almost stereotypical in his appearance; a black leather jacket, a duel runner straight out of some 80's action movie, and a wicked grin. "You're the 'Ghost'?" Ruby demanded. "Yeah." He said with a sadistic chuckle. "And I've finally found my target. Speed World, Activate!" Ruby's own duel runner also activates Speed World as the city's automated system creates a path for their duel.
"I'll go first!" The 'Ghost' declares as he draws a card. "I summon Wise Core in attack mode!" A small, robotic sphere appears before the 'Ghost'. (Level 1/0). "I set a card and end my turn." Ruby thought that seemed a little suspicious, but was too angry to care. "I draw!" (Ruby 0-1, Ghost 0-1) "I activate my face-down Steel Cage!" her opponent interjected as a cage appeared around the core. "Now, My Wise Core can't attack but it also can't be destroyed in battle and you take all battle damage from battles involving it. Also, Steel Cage can't be destroyed by card effects." That's it? Ruby thought. He clearly doesn't know me. "Since you control a monster and I don't, I can special summon Dryadic Destroyer!" A plant-woman carrying two axes burst from the ground. (Level 6/1800). "I then summon Copy Plant!" (Level 1/0). "I tune my Level 6 Dryadic Destroyer with my level 1 Copy Plant! The bloom of evolution blazes forth. Grow and grow ever stronger! Synchro Summon! Crescent Rose Dragon!" Her favorite dragon, the culmination of her strength, appeared. (Level 7/2400).
"Rose Shot! Destroy his core!" Ruby commanded, and Crescent Rose, sharing her anger, fired on its target with full force, pushing the "Ghost" to the edge of the road with the full force of her psychic power, almost causing him to crash. "That's what I was waiting for!" Ghost laughed. A light began to shine from the ruined core. "When Wise Core is destroyed by a card effect, I can summon forth its true form!"
Out of the light appeared several robotic parts. "I summon Wisel Top," (Level 1/500) "Wisel Attack," (Level 1/1200) "Wisel Carrier," (Level 1/800) "Wisel Guard," (Level 1/1200) "and Machine Emperor Wisel Infinity!" (Level 1/0). Ruby didn't appreciate that she was lead along like that, but all those monsters seemed completely useless. What was he planning? "Wisel Infinity gains the attack of all its parts!" the "Ghost" explained as the five parts combined to make one giant robotic monster. (Wisel Infinity 0-2500).
Ruby was unimpressed. "I banish Dryadic Destroyer so Crescent Rose can gain its attack. Crescent Evolution!" (Crescent Rose Dragon 2400-4200) "Crescent Rose, attack Wisel Infinity! Red Rose Flare!" The dragon let out a burst of red energy, but Wisel blocked it with its shield. "Wisel Guard can redirect any attack on my monsters to itself." The "Ghost" taunts. Wisel Guard then breaks under the strain. Ruby let out a small breath of frustration, but accepted that she wouldn't win this turn. "I set a card face-down and end my turn."
At this point, Blake and Yang came up from behind on another lane. "Ruby!" Yang called out. Ruby waved to her. "Don't worry. I've almost got this guy!" This earned a laugh from her opponent. "Do you, now! I draw" (Ruby 1-2, Ghost 1-2). "I activate Wisel Infinity's effect! Once per turn, it can equip any synchro monster you control to itself. Synchro Absorption!" Several energy beams fly out from Wisel's chest, wrapping around Crescent Rose Dragon. Ruby could only look on in horror as she remembered Trudge's warning. Crescent Rose disappears into the machine's core. (Wisel Infinity 2500-4900)
"All synchro monsters will fall under Wisel's power and all turbo duelists will be crushed under my heel! Wisel Infinity, attack Ruby directly!" The machine bares its sword and flies towards Ruby. "I activate the effect of Kurihedge in my hand! If your monster declares a direct attack, I can special summon it to negate the attack!" A chubby small beast covered in vines appears to block the attack. (Level 1/300). The "Ghost" laughs it off. "You're only delaying the inevitable. I end my turn."
Ruby couldn't believe what had just happened. Her best monster was just gone, taken inside that thing. She didn't know how she could win. "Hey! Ruby!" She turned to Yang. "You can't just let him do that! Fight back and take him down for Trudge!" Ruby nodded and got ready to draw, her resolve renewed. Before she did, she felt the signer marks of all the others appear on her back alongside her own mark.
"I draw!" (Ruby 2-3, Ghost 2-3) "I summon Majestic Dragon!" (Level 1/0). "I then activate Synchro Material, letting me use a monster on your side of the field for a synchro summon. Return, Crescent Rose!" Crescent Rose answered her call, bursting out from Wisel's core. "I tune my level 7 Crescent Rose Dragon and my level 1 Kurihedge with my level 1 Majestic Dragon! A light from heaven descends and revitalizes the flower of hope. Bloom and show that hope! Synchro Summon! Appear, Majestic Rose Dragon!" (Level 9/3700). (Wisel Infinity 4900-2500).
"When Majestic Rose Dragon is synchro summoned, I can destroy all other cards on the field. Rose Rebirth!" The dragon lets out a barrage of petals, which destroys every part of Wisel Infinity. The "Ghost" didn't seem to show any panic. "I then banish a monster from your graveyard to gain its attack. Bloom Reincarnate!" The spectral image of Wisel Attack appears in the nest of flowers on Majestic Rose Dragon's back. (Majestic Rose Dragon 3700-4900). "Majestic Rose Dragon, attack directly! Full Light Bloom!" A multicolored stream of light is burst forth, enveloping the "Ghost". (Ghost 4000-0).
Any cheers of victory are cut short as the signers notice that the "Ghost" is not stopping and he even runs off the road, crashing into a tree on the ground below. They all rushed to check on him. Strangely, there wasn't the blood and carnage they were expecting, even though one of his arms was torn off. Instead, there were mechanical parts in his socket, leaving the group to wonder what this could have meant.
...
Trudge had eventually recovered from his wounds, and from the report the Security officers gave him, he was able to piece together what had happened. "The 'Ghost' was a prototype duelbot from our research department, designed to help us catch criminals." He explained to the signers in Ruby's office. "But I've never seen those cards you described. Someone must have found the duel-bot and reprogrammed it to their own ends. Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing who did." Ruby was only partially listening, still reliving that moment when Crescent Rose Dragon was absorbed. What were they facing?
...
Placido knelt before his superior, Jose. "The experiment was a rousing success, and my cards were returned in a timely manner." "Excellent." Jose replied. "Now, let us begin phase 2."
