Chapter One: Prologue

Many years ago, during the warring states era there was a lord of the silver inu-Youkai. Lord Toga the Inu No Tashio was a fierce leader, ruling his people with compassion. His silver hair usually seen in a high ponytail, piercing gold eyes and demon marking upon his face. Toga ruled the west and the east while the Lord of the black Inu Youkai, Akira, ruled the North and the south. Lord Akira had long night black hair pulled into a low braid, ice blue eyes and two purple strips upon his cheeks showing his demon heritage. Lord Akira was a lonesome leader never taking a mate for he never found his true mate. A treaty was formed between the two lords to combine the lands and rule together. Toga and Akira brought peace over Japan. They formed a friendship and began to rely on each other in times of need. They became like brothers.
One day Toga met a moon Inu demon, Kimi, he knew she was not his true mate but found himself drawn to her. They became very close friends and after a celebration at his castle one night they ended up in bed. Toga had no regrets when Kimi told him she was expecting. Their friendship remained as strong as ever. Neither expected anything from the other, they were close friends and knew they were not meant for each other. Four months later their baby boy was born.
"What will we call him, Toga?" Kimi asked.

"Sesshomaru" Tashio replied staring at his newborn pup.

Toga and Kimi raised Sesshomaru to be a well-mannered demon. Teaching him even though his parents were not mated they still loved him. Sesshomaru regularly got visits and gifts from his uncle Akira, as he named him, When Sesshomaru was 700 years old Toga was doing his rounds in a neighboring village when he caught the most delectable scent ever to fill his nose. Following the scent of vanilla, honey, and chamomile he was led to a young human woman. She was wearing a silk blue kimono with a silk pink overcoat covered in flowers around the hem. 'MATE' his inner demon screamed at him. He knew she was his mate and was captivated by her beauty. Her long straight hair flowing just past her bottom, fair milky skin, and gorgeous big brown eyes. He would not let her get away.

"Good day" he told her as he walked up to stand beside her and eye the table of goods she was looking at.

"Hello, Lord Toga. What brings you to this village?" The woman replied.

"Just doing my strolls of the neighboring villages around my castle, it's a pleasure to meet you Miss...?" Toga replied, waiting to hear her name.

"Izayoi, my Lord." She answered.

Toga extended his hand which she proceeded to grab and shake. Toga brought her hand to his lips and placed a gentle kiss upon her delicate hand. "The pleasure is mine Miss Izayoi" Toga stated.

Days Later
Toga walked through the double doors of the board room to see Akira and Kimi. He smiled at them. "I have an announcement" he stated.

Akira raised a sleek black brow at him "What happened Toga? You seem extra thrilled today?"
"Toga…have you met your mate? I know that smile when I see it!" Kimi exclaimed excitedly.
Akira looked between Toga and Kimi waiting for him to answer.

"Yes, I have. Her name is Izayoi" Toga announced.

"OH, IM SO HAPPY FOR YOU TOGA! This is great news! I want to meet her! What does she look like? How did you meet her?" Kimi asked.

"I'm very happy for you my friend" Akira stated. He had a longing look in his eyes, he was starting to think he'd never meet his own mate.

"Calm down Kimi, you will meet her soon enough. I have just started courting her. She's a human so things are different. I fear for her safety. Interracial relationships are new in Japan." Toga replied.

Silence fell between them. If Togas mate was a human any offspring, they have would be a half demon. Half demons are still killed at birth in this age and they all knew Toga would never let that happen. He loves being a father. He wouldn't allow any of his children half demon or not, to be killed and subjected to brutal treatment. Akira and Kimi proceeded to congratulate him and tell him they stand behind him for whatever he may need.

Toga found his son later that evening and told him of the recent events. Sesshomaru had become very passive and cold not showing much emotion, however he told his father he was happy for him and congratulated him.

Years went by and Toga and Izayoi mated. They were cautious about reproducing as they wanted their child to have a good life not subjected to discrimination. This plan was not fool proof for after 5 years Toga smelled the spicy scent of Cinnamon from his mate. A tell-tale sign of pregnancy. Toga told Izayoi and she cried tears of joy and fear. Joy because she was growing a life within her that was a part of her and her true love. Fear for the tough life her child was sure to have.
A long six months later Toga and Izayoi welcomed a male pup into their life. Opaque eyes, silver hair tufted upon his head with two little pointed ears sticking out an immediate telling of his half demon heritage. They fell in love with their pup at first sight. Toga declared "his name will be Inuyasha. You will have a tough life my son, but your mother and I will always be here to guide you." Izayoi smiled and looked at her son repeating the name. It fit him perfectly. The small family felt complete.
Inuyasha first 100 years of life were tough. Kids never wanted to play with him, he was degraded and shunned for the blood in his veins. Sesshomaru never fully showed it, but he cared for his little brother, in his own way. Sesshomaru would pick fights with Inuyasha and spar with him, occasionally playing ball and running through the forest with him. His uncle Akira visited the pup often and gave him advice and training. His Aunt Kimi, as he claimed her, would constantly bring him gifts, and attempt to rub his ears. Inuyasha may have been shunned by the world, but his family was there to remind him he was loved.

When Inuyasha was 200 years old he met a wind demon, Miroku. Put off by him at first for constantly flirting with the women of the village they eventually became best friends. They often spared together and would sit in the woods by the lake talking about life and what was happening. While strolling through the forest one day Inuyasha and Miroku met a young woman lost looking for directions.
"Keh, why the hell do we gotta help the wench!?" Inuyasha exclaimed.

"My dear friend a young maiden in need? We cannot refuse! Young lady my name is Miroku, and this is Inuyasha, where are you heading? We may be of assistance." Miroku replied to the woman.

"My name is Sango, I'm trying to find Lord Toga, my father has requested a peace treaty between the slayers and the Lord." Sango replied cautiously. She knew immediately the young man with dog ears was Toga's son, or she wouldn't have mentioned it.

"Ah my dear I will gladly help you find him! We were actually on our way there right Inuyasha?" Miroku elbowed him to play along.

"Keh, whatever" was Inuyasha's reply.

"Now come with us and we shall lead you to him." Miroku offered a hand for Sango to take. Sango looked at him apprehensively, but accepted, falling into step next to him to walk towards the castle. Until she felt a hand rubbing her behind.

"PERVERT!" Sango screamed and hit Miroku on the head. Unfazed Miroku apologized and said he was cursed.

"Cursed my ass" Inuyasha mumbled. Miroku shot him a glare and proceeded to bring Sango to the castle with Inuyasha following behind silently. He knew by the look in his friend's eye he had found his mate. 'Poor girl I feel bad for her' he thought watching the two bicker about boundaries and respect.

Toga was more than happy to accept an alliance with the demon slayers, they would make good allies in future wars. He could tell his youngest son's friend had found his mate and as Miroku had become like another son to him he accepted the treaty. Miroku did not have an easy time courting Sango. She was apprehensive about him and his perverted ways. He visited the slayer village often to see her and attempt to woo her nothing was working. Until the destruction of her village. A hoard of demons destroyed the village and killed almost everyone in it. The only survivors were Sango and her brother Kohaku. Destroyed by the tragic events Sango took her brother and ran to Lord Togas castle seeking Miroku. Miroku comforted her until she was able to bear the thought of losing everyone she's ever known. Once she was back to herself, they officially mated.

Toga and Akira decided to take Sango and her brother in as their pack. They proceeded to form their own clan. Wars have been popping up constantly and no one was safe. Toga and Akira appeared before the demon council to grant their clan request. Every member of the clan will receive a mark tying them to the clan. New members will receive the mark after proving their loyalty. Members born of the clan receive their mark at the age of five and the human's life spans would match that of a demons. The marking process was painful and to avoid infants being subject to pain it was best to wait until they were of a good speaking age. They called themselves The Shikon Clan.

Many wars were fought before, during and after the revolution. Many allies were met during this time as well. The Shikon Clan met Kikyo and Naraku, a mated couple traveling the countryside eliminating demons that were trying to take over during the wars. Kikyo and Naraku fought fiercely beside the Shikon Clan and proved their loyalty. After a few years they were welcomed into the clan.

Sesshomaru found a young child by the name of Rin attacked by wolves. He saved her and took her under his wing. Toga had no idea what caused his son to do this but opened Rin into the clan with open arms. After finding the wolves that harmed her Sesshomaru eliminated them from existence. This caused a war between the dogs and wolves. Prince Koga met with Lord Toga after a gruesome year of battle and called for peace. He had a mate and could not continue this war when so many lives had been lost. A peace treaty was formed between the two and they proceeded to fight side by side.

After the Second World War Toga and Akira decided to tackle the business world. Toga had birth certificates forged for his clan and gave them the Takahashi surname. Akira wanted something different for his own lineage of black inu demons, his surname was Higurashi. Building a business from the ground up Toga and Akira started selling electronics to help the world recover from the war. Quickly rising and staying ahead of competition Toga and Akira named their business 'Ashi' the last four letters of both of their last names. Ashi was the most successful business in Japan and slowly spreading over the world. Toga's son learned the business world and soon joined their father and uncle. The four inu demons were unstoppable. However, Akira kept wondering in the back of his mind if he'd ever meet his true mate. He'd been alive since the 1300's and had no sign of his true mate. Toga told him he would find her and to be patient, but a dog demon is not known for patience. Until 1998 when he met a young human woman at the grocery store, Korari. Immediately recognizing her scent as his true mate, he was taken by her beauty and grace. Then he noticed the ring on her finger and a slight bulge in her stomach. She was married and expecting. Waiting centuries for his mate he was not going to let this stop him. He befriended her and the two grew close. He offered her a job at Ashi Corp as his personal secretary. He found out she had two children already. Two sons, Souta and Daichi, and was expecting a little girl. He was happy for her but deeply pained when he realized he'd have to wait longer for his mate. Until one day he received a call from her...

"Akira…?" Korari cried into the phone.

"Ko? What's wrong?" Akira asked panicked.

"Please I need your help!" She sobbed. Akira could hear shouting and glass being smashed in the background. He told her he would be there immediately.

He ran to the shrine she called home and immediately smelt her blood. Feeling his blood boil, he kicked open the door and shouted her name. Her oldest son Daichi found him first.
"Mr. Akira…mom is hurt really bad please help her!" He cried.

Akira seen Daichi covered in bruises, cuts, and blood. He asked him to show him to his mother and what happened. Daichi led him to his mother's bedroom, the sigh Akira saw broke his heart and rage surged through his veins. There lying in the floor was Korari bruises covered her arms and legs, her left eye swollen shut, her lip busted, and fresh tear marks down her face. She looked up at him and said "I had no one else to call….my husband he…he has an alcohol problem. It's never been this bad, but he lost it. I'm so sorry for dragging you into this."

"No need to be sorry love, I only wish I had known sooner I would have gotten you and your children out of here." Akira replied softly. He lifted her into his arms and told the boys to pack a bag with their belongings. After their bags were packed, he took them to Tokyo General Hospital. He could still hear the heartbeat of Korari's child in her womb, but he would not take any chances. They all needed treatment.

While in the hospital Akira told Korari everything, such as how she is his true mate and he will not take no for an answer, especially after what had happened. He would stay with her and her children, which he claimed as his own immediately, until she was ready to be his mate. Korari was speechless and told him she needed to rest and think about it. He left her room to let her think and checked on the boys. Their injuries were minor and after making sure they would be okay we left to the Hallway to call Toga.
Toga was furious about the events and told Akira once she is better to bring her to the clan house. She and her children would be welcomed and accepted into the clan. Akira confirmed they would be there immediately once the doctors cleared Korari to leave. Hanging up he walked back to Korari's room. Upon entering she sat up and felt a trickle down her leg. Sending her panic Akira rushed to her side and asked what was wrong.

"Akira….my water just broke get the doctor!" She exclaimed. Akira rushed out grabbing the nearest doctor to help Korari deliver. She wasn't due for another month and a half; this child was premature and needed immediate care.

Doctors and nurses rushed in to prepare her for delivery. Checking she was at ten centimeters they had no time to take her to the labor and delivery ward, she'd have to deliver here. Korari looked for Akira and asked him to stay with her. He told her he'd always stay with her and held her hand as she prepared to deliver her baby girl.
Seven hours of pushing and screaming later a loud cry was heard throughout the room. The doctors cleaned and handed the little girl to her mother.
"She's so tiny." Korari stated staring at her daughter.

"She'll have to be in the NICU for a few weeks due to being premature, but she should be fine. She's got a healthy scream" the doctor chuckled.

Korari looked up at Akira. "Yes, I'll be your mate. Are you sure you don't mind getting three children at once?" She asked him.

Akira smiled and told her there's nothing more he could want. A mate and pups all at once he felt complete. Korari smiled at him and looked down at her baby. "She needs a name." She said.
"How about Kagome?" Akira suggested.

Korari looked between him and her baby.

"Kagome…. yes, I love that. Welcome to the world my little Kagome." She smiled.
Born July fourteenth, 1999, with thick black hair atop her head, big hazel eyes with specks of blue, Kagome, now Higurashi, was everything Korari could ever hope and dream for.

Once the excitement of the new baby had calmed down and the boys met their younger sister, Kagome was taken to the NICU for testing and monitoring. Akira told Korari he'd be back and went to the clan house to inform every one of the great news. Toga and Izayoi were happy for him and couldn't wait to meet everyone. Inuyasha, Sesshomaru Miroku and Naraku congratulated Akira. While Rin, Sango and Kikyo couldn't be wait to see the baby and were excited for a new female clan member, they felt outnumbered to the males. Akira invited them to come to the hospital if they respected Korari in such an emotional time. Everyone agreed and piled into two limos and proceeded to the hospital.
Arriving at the hospital Akira told everyone to wait in the waiting room while he checked if Korari was up for visitors. He knocked lightly and heard a soft come in and opened the door.
"How are you feeling love?" He asked with a Sincere smile.

"I'm fine the boys were keeping me company until you came back." Korari replied. Dachi and Souta waved hi to Akira and immediately started asking him questions.

"Do we get to live with you?"

"Are you gonna hunt down our dad?"

"Where are we going now?"

"You're gonna marry our mom!?"

"Boys boys slow down. Yes, I intend to marry your mother, you all will live at the clan house with me, your dad is a topic for another time. My clan was hoping they could meet you Korari if you're up for visitors?" Akira replied easily.

Korari smiled and told him that was fine. Everyone piled into the room. Excited to meet Akira's mate and new pups. Izayoi and Korari immediately got it off becoming close friends in a matter of minutes. Everyone fell into light conversation about the events to happen next when a knock on the door grabbed their attention.
A nurse popped her head in. "Hello, I see you have visitors, I've brought your daughter she's perfectly healthy, but the hospital would like to keep her for a few days to make sure there's nothing they missed."

"Please come in." Korari replied. The nurse wheeled the bassinet into the room and all eyes went to the little pink bundle. Wide awake looking around at all the faces. Korari picked up her daughter and said, "everyone meet Kagome."

"Oh, Korari she's gorgeous!" Izayoi exclaimed. Sango, Rin, and Kikyo exclaimed more compliments about the baby gushing over how adorable she was.

"Well, my brother you got yourself a mate and three pups right away, congratulations and welcome to parenthood." Toga said whole patting Akira's back. Akira smiled and thanked him ready for the new adventure to unfold.

Hours later everyone left to go back to the clan house taking Daichi and Souta with them to get situated. Akira stayed with Korari. Kagome had gone back to the NICU for the night for monitoring. They would need to tube feed her for a few days since she wouldn't latch onto her mother. Korari and her new mate were in bliss. Korari would file for divorce from her husband the following business day and keep him out of her and her children's life. Akira had the best lawyers in Japan ready for Korari to leave her husband and get full custody of her kids. They chatted for a few hours before falling into a deep sleep content with life for the first time in years.

A week later the divorce papers were sent and signed. Isamu, Korari's ex-husband. Was not pleased. First his wife starts working for those disgusting demons and now she's leaving him for one! Taking his children away from him as well! This would not do. He knew his daughter was probably born by now, he really did a number on her but avoided her stomach. Yes, he had plans for his sweet daughter, plans we would not let his ex-wife, or her mate stop. He smirked evilly.

Two Years later

"Uncle Inu!" a young voice screamed through the house.

"Yes Princess?" Inuyasha replied walking around the corner to meet the little girl.

"Mommy and Mimi said someting big is happen today. Help me find my pink shoes pwease?" the little girl asked.

"Of course, Princess Kaggie!" Inuyasha replied.

Inuyasha and Kagome found her shoes a few minutes later. Inuyasha knew what today was, it was her mother's court date with her ex-husband for custody. Ismau easily let Korari have the boys but was hellbent on taking custody of Kagome. Inuyasha refused to let this happen. The moment she came home she stole his heart. He adored Kagome and would not let that psychotic bastard take her away. She was apart of the clan now, clans protect each other. Her bright bubbly personality brought smiles to everyone in the clan house. She was still too young for the clan mark however, she had been given a crescent moon in a sun pendant, identifying her as a member of the Shikon clan.

"You ready Princess?" Inuyasha asked.

"Yes!" Kagome exclaimed.

Inuyasha was taking Kagome to the park across from the courthouse during the trial. Dressed in dark denim jeans and a red t-shirt, Inuyasha looked over at Kagome and grabbed her hand taking her to the car. After being buckled in they headed off to the park.

In the courthouse

"Mr. Takana, after the evidence I've been presented with, I am ruling in favor of Mrs. Higurashi. You are not to contact her or your children. A restraining order will be put in place. You are not to come within 500 feet of Mrs. Higurashi or her children, and you will have a five-year probationary period. You are dismissed, an officer of the court will give you your probation officer's contact information." The judge declared and banged his gavel.

Korari hugged Akria and his lawyers thanking them endlessly. Isamu glared at the judge and his ex-wife but left the courthouse without a word.

Isamu walked outside and seen the half-breed and his daughter at the park across the street. He smirked to himself and knew what he would do.

Inuyasha saw his father, uncle and his uncle's mate leave the courthouse as it started raining. He looked behind him and called Kagome to come with him. Kagome started walking towards him when she saw an ice cream truck off to the side. She started walking towards it when she was grabbed, and a hand covered her mouth. She tried to scream so Inuyasha or her mother and father would hear her, but to no avail, a few moments later her world went black never to see her family again.

With Inuyasha

"How'd it go?" Inuyasha asked.

"It went well Kagome is officially staying with us. Let's get going, where's Kagome?" Akria replied.

"Huh? She's right behind me…" Inuyasha turned around and Kagome was not in sight. He felt panic course through his veins.

"No, she was right next to me!" He exclaimed.

Akria sniffed the air and smelt Isamu's foul scent. His demon rattled in its cage, ready to come out and turn Tokyo upside down.

"Isamu took her, he was here I smell him." Akria growled.

Inuyasha growled deep in his chest and felt anger and guilt course through his veins. They proceeded to check the park, but the rain started. Kagome's scent vanished at the ice cream truck. They were lost and Kagome was gone. Inuyasha howled in rage, this was his vault, he turned his back for one second and she was gone.

"Yash it's not your fault, she must have started going towards the ice cream truck when Isamu grabbed her. You can't blame yourself." Toga told his son.

Inuyasha just shook his head. Akria and Korari did not blame him, but he still felt guilty. His heart broken in two, his little ray of sunshine was gone, and it was all his fault. The clan would not stop until she was found, no matter how long it took. They looked day and night for five years. The demon police said there was a possibility she was dead, and they were calling off their assistance with the search. The Shikon clan was devastated and slowly fell back into their everyday lives, never once forgetting about the little girl that lit up their world.
