He'd been out of prison for two weeks after being in it for a month and now he was at his first Villain's Convention. There were a lot of villains, more than he expected and some of them were very strange, a blue-skinned man and a Scotsman were two of the more interesting ones here.
They were interested in him too. The two of them waved and beckoned him over, "Hello," he said, deciding to be cordial, no need to make enemies yet.
"Hi, I'm Dr Drakken, evil scientist and genius," said the blue-skinned man with a grin.
"Aye, an' I'm Duff Killigan, the World's Deadliest Golfer," said Duff. They held out their hands. Monkey Fist hesitated for a moment before shaking their hands. He had no idea why these two had decided to be 'nice' but if they had true intentions of being 'nice' then he'd take it. If not, well, he could always kill them later.
"Monkey Fist," he introduced himself. They nodded and asked what his evil thing was. "I'm a Master of Tai Sheng Pek Quar, and I'm destined to become the Ultimate Monkey Master with my Mystical Monkey Power, then I shall become the ruler of all monkey kind!" He laughed afterwards. Drakken and Killigan looked at each other and they had the same thought, they'd have keep an eye on this young man.
"So, you use magic instead of technology?" asked Drakken, trying not to be awkward about it. Monkey Fist nodded. The three of them then began to compare notes on how they did their villainy.
They were soon interrupted by a woman. "Hey Dr D., Killigan…." She stopped talking once she noticed the third man. Monkey Fist stopped talking to turn and look at who had interrupted them and did a double take. The woman was gorgeous and highly exotic. She had lustrous black hair with a green tint to it, pale skin with the same green tint, a slender, perfect body that any front-page model would kill for and the most brilliant green eyes he'd ever seen. Something about them was strangely familiar, though he couldn't put his finger on it. He felt like the answer was right in front of him.
Shego looked at this man, who was strangely familiar to her. The answer was on the verge of being remembered, she was sure of it. He was handsome, that was for sure, but he had monkey hands and feet, that was something you didn't see every day.
"Ah, Shego, this is Monkey Fist. Monkey Fist, this is my sidekick, Shego," said Drakken.
"A pleasure to meet you, dear lady," he said with a formal bow.
His accent was very familiar to her, though she hadn't heard one in years. "Likewise," she said.
"Monkey Fist here was just telling us about his evil plots and Tai Shang…," said Drakken, trying to remember the name he'd been told.
"Tai Sheng Pek Quar," said Monkey Fist.
That rang a loud bell in Shego's brain. "Tai Sheng Pek Quar," she said, a strange look coming over her face. Monkey Fist nodded.
Flashback
"Tai Sheng what?" a sever year old Skyla looking up at Monty. They were in her garden that day and Monty had just told her about a martial art he practiced. It was a few days after the party.
"Tai Sheng Pek Quar, Monkey Kung Fu," he said.
Skyla giggled, "Monkey Kung Fu, that's sounds funny."
"It does sound a little funny. One day I'm going to be a full master of it," said Monty, as he placed a flower crown on her head.
"I'm a monkey queen!" she said, running around making monkey noises, Monty laughed and joined in, eventually catching her. She squealed in delight.
"If you're a Monkey Queen then I'm a Monkey King!" he said, hugging her.
"Does that mean I have a throne next to yours?" asked the seven-year-old.
"Yes, it does," said Monty with a grin. It was harmless play and a harmless question.
"Monty, do I have to know Monkey Kung Fu to be the Monkey Queen?" she asked with serious eyes.
He laughed, "No you don't Skyla, but I can teach you some if you'd like, that way you'll be able to defend yourself," said Monty with a grin.
"I'll be as tough as you?" she asked.
"Only if you practice," he replied.
"Ok, cue martial arts musical number!" she cheered, Monty guffawed at that, but he did begin to teach her, and it was those lessons that started Skyla on the road to toughness. It was that afternoon though that started both of them on a long path together.
End Flashback
Shego looked at Monkey fist's face with recognition now, "Monty, Monty Fiske?" she asked.
He was startled, "How do you know my real name?" he asked a little sharply. Drakken and Killigan looked confused.
"Shego?" asked Drakken.
"Monty, do I have to know Monkey Kung Fu to be the Monkey Queen?" Shego asked and Monty's eyes widened. Only one person had ever asked him that question, but she was dead…wasn't she?
"Skyla…?" he asked with hesitation and a little fear…if it was just a coincidence, then his heart would break, all over again.
"Yeah, Monty, it's me, my eyes are lovely emeralds, that's a precious stone," she said.
His heart lifted with joy, it was her, she was alive! "SKYLA!" he shouted with joy. The next thing Drakken and Killigan knew, their mouths were open in shock as the two hugged each other fiercely.
"Monty, what's going on? Why are you here?"
"Why am I here, why are you here? I thought that you and your brothers were dead after the comet smashed into your house," said Monty.
"Oh, right, that," said Shego. "It's a long story," she said.
"I'm all ears," he said, releasing her from the hug.
The two of them went off without a second thought, leaving the two men standing there. "What just happened?" asked Drakken scratching his head.
"Ah do no' know lad, bu' ah reckon the world just started goin' in a differen' direction," said Killigan. They looked at each other and figured that things would be different from now on.
"Monty, I missed you," Shego admitted when they were in a quiet and more private space.
"I missed you too, so much Skyla, so much. When I read in the paper that the house had been hit by a comet, I was devastated, and I mourned. I mourned so much that I got very sick. When I was better, I wanted to go to America, to Go City but I could not muster the courage to because I was afraid to confirm your death as it would make my heart break even more and I had just recovered from my depression. I was afraid that this time my heart would break even more upon the conformation that I'd lost my best friend forever," Monty confessed.
Shego…no, Skyla, was touched that she meant so much to Monty and she was reasonably certain that she would have had the same reaction if he'd been in her place. "I understand. I didn't exactly reach out either. So many things happened. We lost our parents, our house, we only had each other. We were one twenty-one-year-old, one eighteen-year-old, a fourteen-year-old and four-year-old twins who had just lost their parents. We'd miraculously survived, been given superpowers, we became the city's heroes, we were raising Walter and Willis, dealing with supervillains, it's not the life I envisioned for myself."
"I understand, with all of that on your plate, it natural to forget things. I don't blame you in the slightest Skyla, how could I? It would be very selfish of me to think that you had time to think of me during those years," said Monty kindly. She smiled at him warmly.
They spent the rest of the day catching up, Monkey Fist was unable to believe that Hugo had insisted that the sibling use their powers to become superheroes. "What happened to the teen who only wanted what was best for his siblings?"
"He got hit on the head by a comet," said Shego in a deadpan voice. Monkey Fist snickered. They had an enjoyable afternoon, unaware that another villainess had witnessed their interactions with each other and wondered why her Monty acted like that with that girl and not with her.
Unaware of their watcher's musings Monkey Fist and Shego exchanged numbers and went back to Drakken and Killigan, where they parted ways with a promise to keep in touch. Drakken said nothing, not wanting to wreck Shego's good mood.
Shego was in a great mood, she had her best friend back and was going to see him again soon, she hoped.
Monkey Fist was in a fantastic mood, his best friend was alive, and he would definitely be keeping in contact with her from now on. Life was good.
