Chapter 62: Useless

I watched as the two villains, who I thought I would be forced to fight at the same time, is fighting each other instead. Mordred sent slashes after slashes and Alucard countered with spikes emerging from his cape and occasionally with his elongated claws.

I almost missed it but I noticed Alucard frowning when he saw Mordred taunting me with Epsilon's hair. It wasn't Mordred's insulting offer that offends him. It was something about the hair. And now he almost ignored me completely, focusing his attacks on Mordred instead. What's going on?

"Don't just sit there like I've forgotten about you, Guinea Pig!" Shouted Mordred as he sent an invisible long ranged slash with his sword, which is most likely an Artifact, towards me.

Despite the strike being invisible, I dodged it by intuition. The slash left a mark on the stone floor I was standing in.

"I admit. Your abilities are more unique than any vampires we have encountered and experimented on so far. Not even the Blood Queen has this ability. You continue to intrigue me, Mr. Alucard. I considered capturing you alive instead of dead, but you've offended me, and thus I will kill you. Your legend will die along with you and your abilities will be the only legacy you have left!" Mordred began monologuing again before activating a mechanism on his blade that unleashes multiple slashes on one swing. I saw Alucard defending himself using his cape as shield, but it wasn't strong enough and was sliced to pieces.

"That's as far as you go, vampire. Die!" Mordred grinned as he went for a lunge and stabs the vampire in his heart... only to find out that the vampire have turned his body into mist.

"Annoying. But useless!" Shouted Mordred as he stabs his sword on the ground and created a shockwave that blew the mist away. Alucard was forced to rematerialize in order to avoid being scattered away. His now physical form crashed against the wall.

"Hmph. He was nothing after all. As I thought. A mere sample of him would be enough to-" Mordred said smugly before suddenly he was forced to block Alucard's elongated claw aiming for his chest.

"Kuhh!" Try as he might, he can only block a few nails, letting two of Alucard's nails to pierce his chest, drawing blood.

"What…!? You bastard…!" Mordred shouted as he was about to retaliate, only to find my blade piercing his stomach.

"Aghh…. You…!" He glared at me hatefully while I responded with a grin.

I dodged his next strike and saw Alucard emerge from the dusty corner.

"Hmph. If I didn't know any better I would think that you two are working together. But if I think about it, it's only natural that you both decided to attack me and me alone." Said Modred smugly, his ego led him to believe that he's the greatest threat out of us three even though he's just the greatest annoyance here.

"Yes. Keep telling yourself that." Said Alucard while grinning as he walked leisurely towards us.

"Hmph. You foolish vampires never learn your place. You may have drawn the first blood but you are the weakest link between the two of you! Once I get rid of-" Mordred tries to monologue again before being interrupted by Alucard's fist on his face.

"Arghhh!" Mordred was once again sent crashing against the wall.

Mordred hasn't noticed it yet but Alucard's speed is so great that even I could barely see it. Mordred, being the arrogant prick he is, stood back up and glared at the vampire angrily without realizing the disparity in power between them, not acknowledging that he couldn't react to Alucard's fist.

Not acknowledging that Alucard was merely toying with him the whole time and could easily kill him if he wants to anytime he wants.

"You've insulted me for the last time, you little bloodsucking scum! I shall have you tormented instead of—UAGHH!" His monologue is once again interrupted by Alucard's fist, which are so fast he couldn't react. Mordred's back once again met the same wall he was crashing against just a few seconds ago.

He clutches his bleeding nose pitifully. He should learn from Gamma who could endure multiple accidents which end up damaging her nose.

But still… while his back is turned, I decided to take action and lunged at Alucard.

"Heh!" As expected, he noticed my surprise attack and caught both my hands with his and began knocking the air out of me with a knee strike.

"Uaghh…!" I grunted in pain before being sent crashing against the wall in the same manner as Mordred did. How funny that the three of us are well acquainted with the walls by now.

"Oh? Finally realizing that you cannot do anything against me that you decided to attack him? Good girl." Mordred said smugly, still unaware of the threat that Alucard poses.

"You are an idiot beyond belief, don't you?" I say to him as I stood back up.

"What are you talking about?" He asked while frowning at my insult.

"You're just so far away from reality that you couldn't realize who the real danger here is." I said while keeping my attention solely at Alucard.

"Heh. You couldn't possibly think that the vampire who couldn't even defend himself from my attack could possibly be-" He smugly said before I cut him off.

"I count him hitting you in the face three times. In all three times you were unable to react." I said to him, my words seem to make him finally realize his folly.

"Impossible! Such a low class creature can't possibly be stronger than me!" Or not. Really, does the Tears of Diablos have the side effect of making them stupider? I can only sigh as I no longer view him as a threat.

"It's useless!" Shouted Mordred as he sent a barrage of invisible slashes on Alucard.

"Useless! Useless useless useless useless useless useless USELESS!" He continued to shout angrily as he continued his assault. Alucard's figure now obscured by dust that went flying along with debris from Mordred's assault.

Eventually Mordred stopped his assault and waited until Alucard's unharmed form emerged from the dust, surprising him completely.

"Wha—Impossible! You must've used Mist Form to escape from my attacks!" Shouted Mordred in denial.

"Then try again." Taunted Alucard calmly while making a 'come at me' gesture.

"Haaaa!" Mordred once again activated the mechanism on his sword to unleash multiple slashes at once. Alucard just stood there and took the attack.

*CLANG*

The expected sound of invisible blades slicing flesh wasn't heard. A clash between blades and mighty shield is heard instead. Despite it sounding like shield, Alucard wasn't employing his cape as a shield. His own body IS the shield that clashed against Mordred's invisible strikes.

"What…!? Impossible!" Shouted Mordred, only now realizing how dangerous Alucard is.

"Finally realized the disparity between our strength? How inferior you are?" Alucard mockingly said.

"You…!" Mordred gritted his teeth in frustration.

"A pawn like you should know his place."

"Me… A pawn!?"

"Yes. And I've lost interest in you." Alucard said as he turned his attention on me.

"Don't underestimate me!" Shouted Mordred as he moved to attack before being pushed away by a shockwave generated by Alucard's palm, meeting the wall once again.

"Now then. Let us continue our dance, shall we? Those newcomers can join in." Alucard said.

"Newcomers?" I muttered before finally sensing a familiar presence.

"Lady Zeta!" Shouted Victo—559 as she emerged from the door and immediately went for an overhead slash at Alucard, which was blocked by Alucard's cape.

559 jumped back and stood beside me, warily watching Alucard's move.

"559!" I called out to her.

"Lady Zeta. Reinforcements are coming."

"Who sent you here?"

"Lady Epsilon did."

"What!? Then she…"

"She was ambushed by Mordred and was injured but managed to escape."

"Thank goodness." I sighed in relief, knowing my friend and comrade is safe.

"Who else is coming?" I asked her, only to be answered when Chi and Omega entered the room. Chi brandishes her spear while Omega her axe.

"Lady Epsilon said she will be coming to after she has rested enough." 559 said.

"It's actually better if she didn't. This guy… is a monster!"

"I can help too!" 626 said, no doubt once again planning to use her body as a meat shield as she usually did.

"No. You must survive and escape. You must inform Lady Alpha and the others about this monster." I said.

"But I-"

"That's an order, 626! Go when you have the chance!"

"Y-Yes…" She said with a sad expression, feeling guilty after losing her squadmates. Even though as the leader of this operation I'm the one at fault for underestimating this vampire…

Alucard only grinned as he accepted the new challengers with open arms while Mordred took this chance to be a coward and escaped like the rat he is.

Tch. Reinforcements may have come but this is still going to be a tough fight, isn't it? I can only hope that we can buy enough time for 626 to escape and inform Lord Shadow, Lady Alpha and the others about this vampire…

"Now come forth, Shadow Garden. I am evil incarnate! The Prince of Darkness! Come and paint this night with your blood!"

It took me a few hours to recover. 559, Chi and Omega already went to assist Zeta way ahead of me. I refused to send ordinary Numbers along with them to minimize unnecessary casualties, only sending the elite members of our forces. I stood up from my bed and exited the tent I am resting in.

"Lady Epsilon!" One of the Numbers called out to me.

"I have recovered enough. I'm moving out to assist Zeta. You girls should remain here and await further orders."

"We can fight with you!" Said the girl, eager to fight to the death because I saved her life once before.

"No. Stay here." I said as I began jumping away from the base camp and run at high speed to the direction of the ruins that Zeta went to. I hope I'm not too late.

Huh? Is that 626 running this way? I stopped to meet her.

"Lady Epsilon! Help!" She called out to me in between heavy breaths.

"Lady Zeta… and the others… they're currently fighting against that monster!" That's all I need to know to conclude that Zeta's in grave danger.

Author's Note:

Considering who Mordred's Japanese voice actor is, I can't help but insert the MUDA MUDA MUDA reference here.

King0fP0wers: Now I'm curious if he'll create other personas to counter Cid's identities. Not that he knows it's Cid, lol. Like, it would be amusing if he actually ends up creating a heroic persona as detective Sherlock Holmes to face Cid's Jack the Ripper.

Answer: Don Jon is already set up to go against John Smith. We'll see how that goes. A Sherlock Holmes against Cid's Jack the Ripper? Interesting idea.

Imboredlmao11: I originally wasn't gonna respond to this chapter and wait For a new one but seeing you responded to the very embarrassing typo I'm gonna rewrite that

It would seem cid is being bested when it comes to alter egos right now mainly due to don ron otherwise it's relatively even I'm waiting for cid shades to get amps later on though

Answer: Ah, so that's what you mean. I hope to explore the Don Jon alter ego more in the next arc.

Cid is already stronger than canon due to copying some of Necromancer's spells and he continues to train with it. With the threat of the Necromancer and the misunderstanding that Cid is suffering because of him, the Seven Shades will need to strengthen themselves. That's why Alpha is still staying in Alexandria.

primenidus: Oh things are getting good

Answer: :)

Answer: Interesting idea. I like the Mortifex name. Sounds like a combination of Mors (Death) and Pontifex. I'll take your suggestions under consideration.
