I do not own Teen Wolf
Chapter Thirteen
River woke the next morning in Isaac's arms. Isaac reached over and turned off his alarm. He rolled back to River, holding her against himself.
"You need to get to school," she sighed.
"You're suspended," Isaac told her.
"I get a week off," River smirked.
"Why do I feel like your fights are typically earlier in the year and not at school?"
"Because they are," River shrugged. "Want me to leave so you can get ready?"
"Nah," Isaac shook his head. "I trust you."
River nodded and closed her eyes as Isaac stood. She felt herself drifting back to sleep, barely noticing when Isaac kissed her head on his way out the door. She woke again to Derek shaking her shoulder, careful to not hurt her.
"Hey," she smiled. "What's up?"
"I made you breakfast," he told her. "Come eat."
River nodded and stood, being careful as she stretched to not make her back worse. She rubbed her face before going to her room, changing into gym clothes so that she could go for a run after eating something. Once in the dining room, she realized that Derek was dressed in much the same way. She smiled at the thought of running with him again as she sat in her chair and Derek placed a cup of coffee and a plate in front of her.
"Thanks," she smiled. "Can we go for a run?"
"Yeah," Derek smirked. "Eat first. You're barely awake."
River nodded and ate her food. Once her plate and cup were empty, she and Derek stepped outside. River tossed her hair up and they were off. After almost an hour of running, they were back at the house and River was laying on the grass in the backyard, staring up at the cloudy sky, Derek lying next to her.
"How often do you run?" Derek asked.
"As often as possible," she told him. "I like running."
"I remember you bouncing off the walls all the time," Derek nodded. "Aunt Sarah said something about your magic needing a way out without it flaring out and hurting someone."
"How did my magic not show itself before now?" she asked.
"Being around your mate helped your magic stay calm," Derek told her.
"My mate?" River asked. "We're back on that?"
"I feel like it's important," Derek told her.
"I don't," River grumbled.
"Think of it as an anchor," Derek explained. "That's part of why Peter went crazy. His mate, his anchor was gone. If you're around your anchor all the time, you're less likely to lose control."
"Makes sense," River nodded. "Did you ever ask Isaac what his anchor is?"
"I'm not telling you if he hasn't," Derek smirked before turning serious again. "I'm serious about the mate thing."
"I know," River sighed. "I feel like I know who it is, I just really wish it wasn't."
"Why not?"
"Because he made it very clear that he doesn't want me yesterday," River sighed. "Do you have to be with your mate?"
"Every mate I've seen has been. The two just click typically. What do you mean he doesn't want you?"
"You know it's Stiles, right?" River asked.
"Yeah and I smelt you on each other."
"Yeah, well, he said it was a mistake. It's not happening again," she explained.
"He called you a mistake?" Derek basically growled out.
"It's fine," River sighed. "It'll be alright. It just hurt a bit when it happened."
"That's what happens when your mate rejects you," Derek said, his voice soft. "It feels like you're being smothered."
"Drowning," River corrected.
"What?"
"It felt like I was drowning," she explained. "It sucked."
"I'm sorry," Derek told her. "Want me to rip his throat out with my teeth?"
"No," River laughed. "I'm kind of fine with it. Did anyone tell you that Isaac and I kissed or are you staying out of the teen drama pass this conversation?"
"When?" Derek asked, rolling his eyes.
"When I put you on hold," she smirked. "We had kind of kissed as you were calling. We figured it was just the moon."
"The moon is probably going to get to you next month, too," Derek told her. "After that display last night, there's no way it won't bother you."
"I also plan on doing magic over this next week," she told him. "I want to make protection bottles today and place them around the territory if that's alright?"
"Sounds like emissary work," Derek joked.
"Are you putting me on a payroll?" River joked.
"You have a huge allowance," Derek reminded her.
"That's from Peter though," River smiled, looking over to her cousin. "I'm your emissary."
"Are you?" Derek asked.
"I need a bit more practice first. Emissary in training?"
"Sounds good," Derek nodded. "When did you and Lydia make up?"
"Yesterday morning," River groaned. "I cried too much yesterday."
"You can cry as much as you need to. It'll help your magic to have some sort of release."
"Hence the moon," River joked.
"Don't remind me," Derek groaned. "Do you and Isaac like each other?"
"I had a crush on Isaac for two years at one point," River admitted. "I kind of ignored it until it went away."
"Did it go away?" Derek asked.
"After that kiss? Hell, no. It's very persistent and loud."
"So, why don't you tell him that?"
"I've already been rejected once in the past twenty-four hours. I don't need it to happen again so soon," she told him.
"As someone who can feel everyone's strongest emotions, you won't be rejected," Derek told her. "Ask him what his anchor is and then decide."
"Why?" River asked, confused. "It's not like it's me. Oh, my God. I'm his anchor."
Derek just gave her a look before standing up and heading inside. River stared at the sky, watching as the clouds moved for a bit before standing. She went up to her room and grabbed a spell book and everything she would need for the jars. She sat in her room, using her magic and intentions to make the bottles, hands up as she sat in a salt circle and worked. By the time she opened her eyes, there were twenty bottles sealed with wax stacked on her desk and the sun was low in the sky. She sighed and broke the salt circle.
"Oh, you're back," Jackson's voice made her jump. "There's been another murder. Let's go."
River let out a frustrated growl as she stood, her body aching from having sat in one spot for so long and tired from the use of her magic. She stumbled a bit and Isaac reached forward, catching her.
"Maybe you should sit this one out," Isaac suggested.
"I think that's a good idea," River nodded. "I need to lay down."
Isaac helped her to her bed and tucked her under the covers. Derek told Isaac to stay with River in case she needed something and headed out with Boyd, Erica and Jackson, the four of them going to investigate and try to help Jackson figure out what other senses were heightened. Isaac laid beside River, crawling under the blankets with her.
"What time is it?" she asked.
"Around six," Isaac told her. "Derek's going to bring you something greasy home."
"Yum," River smiled before staring into Isaac's eyes. "What's your anchor?"
"What?" Isaac asked, eyes wide.
"Derek said that he thinks you have an anchor. What is it?"
"Oh, um."
"You don't have to tell me," she rushed out.
"It's you," he told her. "Specifically, it's your humming, making sure I'm okay, basically taking care of me."
River smiled at the description.
"I love you," she told him, kissing his cheek. "I'll always take care of you."
"Promise?" he asked.
"Pinky swear," she smiled, holing up her good hand.
Isaac wrapped his finger around River's, smiling as he kissed her hand.
"Can we talk about the day of the full moon?" Isaac asked, suddenly shy.
"You can talk to me about anything," she told him.
"It wasn't the moon that made me kiss you. It made it hard to control my shift when we were kissing but I've wanted to kiss you for so long and I knew I could use the moon as an excuse if you didn't like me."
"Funny story," River smirked. "I've had a crush on you for a while."
"What about Stiles?" Isaac asked.
"Another secret," River rolled her eyes. "We both thought we were asleep. We didn't do anything serious."
"You smelt like sex," Isaac deadpanned.
"We didn't have sex," River promised. "We both just got a little too excited."
"That sounds like something."
"It was all over the clothes."
"Really?" Isaac asked. "You're telling me that you and Stiles were in bed together and neither of you really went for it?"
"Yupp," River nodded.
"He's an idiot."
"Says the guy who threw himself across the room to get away from me," River smiled.
"My claws were coming out!" Isaac defended. "I didn't want to accidentally hurt you!"
"That's fair," River nodded. "Are you going to hurt me now?"
"No," Isaac shook his head seriously.
"Good," River smiled.
She moved forward slowly, watching as Isaac caught on to what was happening. He leaned in with her, pressing his lips against hers gently. He was gentle again, making River's heart flutter at the feeling. She wondered if Isaac was even capable of being rough with someone before he rolled so that he was on top of her. They continued kissing, both pressing their bodies against each other in the process.
"Can I tell you something before we continue this?" Isaac asked, letting River catch her breath.
"Sure," she nodded.
"I hated smelling Stiles on you," he admitted, leaning down and kissing her again.
He moved his lips to her neck, gently nipping at her neck as he did so.
"Is that your way of saying that you want me to smell like you?" River asked, her back arching slightly at the feeling of his hands exploring her body.
"Yes," Isaac growled out, a hand slipping into her shorts.
River gasped as he started moving his fingers around inside of her.
"Fuck," she said as Isaac moved his mouth to her chest.
"Can I try something?" he asked.
"Yes," River nodded breathlessly.
Isaac pulled her shorts and underwear down. He kissed back up her leg before stopping in between her legs, his eyes glowing golden. He dipped his head down and River gasped as he tasted her. Her hands tangled in his hair and her back arched. He continued, causing her to moan his name and wiggle under him. He placed his arm across her hips, holding her in place.
"Is," she gasped. "Right there."
River felt herself getting close and Isaac must have sensed it because he moved faster, urging her on. When she came, her back arched and her thighs tightened around his head. Isaac slowly stopped and waited for her to calm back down. He pulled her shorts and underwear back up before pulling her against his chest, both of them falling asleep.
A scaled hand lifted River's window, staring at the two teenagers as it climbed the wall. It stared down at them, a loud hiss escaping it's lips and waking the two. The wolfs eyes glowed gold and his fangs and claws extended, blocking the path to the witch. It swiped its tail, scratching the wolf's neck and causing it to fall to the floor paralyzed.
"Isaac!" the girl yelled before rushing forward.
The tail just barely missed her neck as she dodged its attack. She grabbed one of the protection jars and threw it at the lizard, causing it to scream in pain and hit her with his tail, sending her into a wall before it fled. It heard a roar coming from in the house, another from in the forest before it runs into the night, the heartbeat of the girl slowing to a complete stop as it runs.
