Prologue

It's a dark and cold night, and a chilly breeze sweeps through the empty streets of the city of Possibility. The usually bustling streets are uncharacteristically quiet, with only the noises of the wind and stray animals to keep the lone sandwing with dusty brown scales company in the dark alley where he is standing.

He is fidgeting with a stick in his talons and humming a tune to himself out of boredom. ''C'mon, what's taking so long?!'' He says to himself. He has been waiting in the same spot for what feels like hours! The dragon looks around with an annoyed expression before letting out a sigh of frustration. His annoyed grumbling is suddenly cut off when he hears someone call his name.

''Finally! Took you long enough-' He was cut off when he realized who was calling his name. It was his older brother, Sahara. Sahara was much larger than he was and much older too-- 13 years, in fact.

Sahara was strong, smart, and quite intimidating, especially when he is angrily storming toward you with a furious look in his eyes. ''Sabaku! What are you doing alone in an alleyway in the middle of the night?!''

''No-nothing!''

''Do you really think I believe that!?'' Sahara says while Sabaku rolls his eyes. Sahara always did these types of things; does he think he's Sabaku's father or something? ''Calm down, Sahara.'' Sabaku, says, but Sahara only seems to grow angrier. ''Don't you see how suspicious you are acting?"

Sahara snarls, as Sabaku waves him off with his talon. "Acting suspicious doesn't justify you screaming at me.'' He says with a dismissive attitude. Sahara's eyes go wide in realization ''Sabaku, you haven't been doing drugs, have you?'' ''N-No!'' he says a little too quickly before sighing in defeat and looking back at Sahara with an annoyed expression. "Sahara, I am 18! I'm a grown dragon! I can make my own- Ow! Hey! STOP!''

Sabaku gets cut off by his older brother pulling on his ear. ''We are going home!'' Sahara yells into the ear he is pulling. ''No! You treat me like a child!'' ''Only because you act like one!'' ''No. I. Don't!'' Sabaku yells poutingly, but he quickly changes his mind as Sahara starts practically dragging him home by the ear. ''Ow! OW! FINE! I'LL WALK!'' Sahara lets go of Sabaku's ear and continues walking in the direction of their house. Sabaku rubs his ear for a moment before speeding up to catch up with his older brother.

''I can't believe you are trying to buy drugs...'' ''I can't believe you still smoke.'' Sabaku retorts sassily ''That's Different!'' Sahara shouts back ''And don't even try to shift this on me!''. Sabaku sighs and looks down in shame, finally realizing how bratty he has been acting. "You're right... Sorry Sahara, but you know how hard life has been.''

''That's no excuse, Sabaku.''

''I know.'' Sabaku says looking down in shame. ''How mad are you on a scale of one to ten?''

''Shut up.''

''Okay...'' Sabaku says folding in his wings close to his body. He could tell that he really pissed off Sahara this time, he often got on his older brother's nerves, but today he really messed up.

The brothers continue walking home in silence for a couple of minutes before reaching their destination. Sahara unlocks the door before pushing Sabaku inside and slamming the door behind them.

"You really messed up this time!'' Sahara roars as soon as the door closes, making Sabaku flinch. "I know..." He says before taking a deep breath and looking at Sahara with an annoyed look "But that doesn't give you the right to treat me like a child. I'm a full-grown dragon, Sahara." Sabaku says. "Yes, I understand you being mad at me now, but you always act like this! I can barely step foot outside without you watching over me like a hawk."

"That's because every time I don't you end up doing something stupid... or you get hurt... or both!" Sahara sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose with a talon out of frustration before speaking again "I only do it because I love you."

"Oh, don't give me that!" Sabaku snarls "Because of you I barely have any friends! And the ones I do have I'm not allowed to see!" "Your 'friends' are all criminals and street-rats." Sahara grumbles to which Sabaku scoffs before retorting "That's hardly fair, Sahara." "They are delinquents. Remember when they you got into Trouble with guards for stealing from that jewelry store!?"

Sabaku sighs at that and nods "well, to be fair, *I* stole that chain." Sabaku plops down onto a couch. Their house is quite large, but there was always a feeling of emptiness, almost like something was missing. "I just... I'm sorry Sabaku, but I can't lose you too." Sahara says before sitting down next to him on the couch with a sad sigh "I understand how mean and overbearing I can come across as sometimes, I really do, but I only act like that because I love you... you know that, right?".

Sabaku nods. He knows Sahara really does love him, but that doesn't make him any less annoying sometimes "I love you, too, but why do you act like you are my father? It's really annoying sometimes." He says to his brother. Sahara looks at him with a sad expression "Mother made me promise to take care of you..." "Oh" Sabaku looks down at the mention of their late mother.

She died four years ago on Sabaku's 14th birthday. Sabaku had cried almost constantly for days straight, but Sahara took mother's death much worse. He was never the same since.

Sahara used to be the confident and goofy older brother, but now he could barely even laugh.

"I miss mother." Sabaku says looking back up at his brother. Sahara pulls him into a hug before speaking again "I miss her too."
