Chapter 2

I don't own Legacies, The Vampire Diaries or The Originals, they belong to Julie Plec (and whoever else). I just own Giulia and any other OC. I'm not making any profit from writing this.

This chapter isn't betaed, any mistakes are my own and English is definitely not my first language. Constructive criticism is much appreciated, flames are not.

My spells are the results of using Google Translate to translate from English to Latin so they're probably wrong.

Thoughts

SUNDAY MAY 9th, 2009. DAY.

Giulia knocked on the red door of a house in a suburban part of Charlottesville. A blond-haired man opened the door.

"Good morning, are you Sam Evans?" she asked.

He nodded, "Yes, and you are…?" the vampire asked.

Giulia subtly made small sparks appear between her fingers, "A client."

He smiled and led her inside the house, closing the door behind him. They entered a small office on the ground floor, Sam sat behind the desk, Giulia in the chair in front of it. She could feel really strong wards pressing down on her, ready to trap her if she attacked.

"Sign here please," he handed over a sheet of paper.

Giulia could feel the magic soaked in the material; it was a binding contract. My, my. This is rare for witches of this time.

Giulia had known that Sam demanded magic enforced secrecy contracts be signed before accepting a job, but those were pretty common amongst the shadier parts of the supernatural community, and always had been under one form or another. There had been blood pacts in older times.

However, this was also a mutual non-aggression contract, they'd started being commonplace only after the fall of the Other Side, when witches had felt more defenceless without their ancestors watching their back. In her time, they were absolutely necessary, with so many different species co-existing and being forced to fight together. Well, now I know who likely started that whole thing. Penny and Kaleb would have loved this.

Calmly, she read through the contract: 'Sam Evans and Miranda Evans agree to not kill, harm or enchant their client for the duration of the job in exchange for the client,_ , doing the same. Sam Evans and Miranda Evans agree to keep all personal and professional details about the client a secret at all costs during and after the completion of the job. All physical evidence of the job will be turned over to the client after the payment. This contract will come into effect once all mentioned parties have willingly signed this contract."

Miranda's signature was already written with a bloody fingerprint on top of it. Giulia calmly wrote her name, Giulia Beltrame, and pierced her finger with the needle Sam handed her. She pushed on the wound until the whole pad was covered in a thin layer of blood and pushed it firmly on the paper. She then healed her wound and cleaned the digit with a napkin, both the needle and napkin were quickly shoved in her backpack.

Sam looked approving at her actions so Giulia smiled at him, she knew better than to just leave her blood laying around if she could help it, especially when it could be considered willingly given.

He copied her actions and the contract glowed gold for one second before turning red and transforming into three strands of light. One disappeared into his chest, another in hers and the third shot through the door. Giulia knew it would reach Miranda Evans, wherever she was, and that the three of them, as the signatories, were the only ones who could see the magic.

"Well, then." Sam placed his chin on his interlocked fingers, "What can I do for you, Miss Beltrame?"

"I need a whole new identity." she said.

"Do you need me to erase your old one as well?" he asked, grabbing his computer and pulling it closer to him.

She shook her head, "That won't be necessary."

"Oh?" he raised a brow, clearly waiting for an explanation.

Giulia just smiled until he got the hint that she had no intention of telling him more.

He cleared his throat and looked down at his screen. "Well, then let's start from your new mother."

She shrugged, "I have no idea."

He nodded, like that was perfectly normal. "Tell me what you need and I'll find someone."

"She has to be dead. It has to be someone with no family, no friends, no one who will be able to deny she had a daughter."

He hummed and kept typing on his computer for a minute, "Father?"

"He can't have signed my birth certificate, but I need a paternity test listing Zach Salvatore, from Mystic Falls, as my father."

His head shot up, "Salvatore?!"

He must know Damon. Mr Salvatore did say he was infamous, and he's the one who recommended Sam. She nodded.

He went back to typing on his laptop. "Zachary Salvatore, unemployed, born August 1st 1974 in Mystic Falls Hospital and residing at the Salvatore Boarding House in the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia?"

"Yes."

"Okay then." he kept typing for a moment and then asked. "When should this test have been taken?"

"We met last night, how long does it usually take for a real one?"

He thought about it for a second, "I can send it to you via mail in two, three days like a real one."

"That would be perfect." she said.

"Your birthday?" he asked.

"April 6th and, uhm," Don't say 2012, don't say 2012, "I'm 18."

If Sam noticed her hesitation, he made no mention of it. "April 6th, 1991 then. Home-schooled?"

"Will that be easier?" When he absently nodded, she said, "Home-schooled then."

"Any particular grades you want on your GEDs?"

She shrugged, "Nothing that makes me stand out."

"What are your worst and best classes?" he asked.

Giulia took a moment to think about it. It had been so long since she actually went to school… would it really be so bad to go to high school? Giulia didn't want to admit it, but she wanted that normal experience. Maybe it would suck, but if it became unbearable, she could just pretend to get home-schooled again and come back here to get her fake diploma.

"Could you…" she cleared her throat, "could you make it so I was home-schooled and I'm now going to start high school in September?"

He looked at her, "Sure, but you do realise that your school might have you take placement exams to determine what year you'll be in?"

Giulia had not known that. She wasn't really all that confident she'd be in senior year, but as long as she didn't get placed with the freshmen she should be fine. "I can just go back to 'home-schooling' and come back here to get my GEDs later."

"True," he agreed.

"Do you want a driver's license?" he asked.

She nodded quickly, "Yes." Her driving skills she was confident in. Cars were too useful for a fast getaway and to pass through unnoticed, it was too useful a skill to not have it.

"Well, then. Come back tomorrow morning at 11 and I'll have everything ready."

"Do I pay now or...?" She was feeling a bit uncomfortable. She was used to bloodier transactions.

He grinned, "Tomorrow, kid. The total will be: 600 dollars."

She stood, "No problem." She had Zach drive her to Lynchburg before coming here to sell her gold and gems, so her bag was full of money right now. It had taken a vow to make sure she wasn't getting scammed but the leprechaun had been willing to collaborate after a quick electric shock.

MONDAY MAY 11th, 2009. DAY.

The next morning, Giulia was back in the chair listening to Sam explain her new identity.

"So, you're now Giulia De Luca, daughter of Emma De Luca, she's an Italian immigrant and a recluse suffering from a heart condition. I thought you might appreciate getting to keep your nationality, did I guess it right?"

She nodded, surprised, "How did you know?"

Giulia's grandfather had been Italian, her dad grew up there, but her mom was American like her paternal grandmother. Giulia herself only went to Italy to visit her grandfather in the summer and that stopped after her parents died.

"Your name kid." he grinned then shrugged, "Plus, even if I was wrong it wouldn't have mattered much, it's not like we're claiming you were raised in Italy or anything. Anyway… she had a heart attack on the 25th of April in her own house and was found a week later. No friends, no family, barely any records at all other than her medical file. She didn't finish high school, didn't even pay taxes or have a job."

"How the hell did she survive?" she asked, confused as hell.

Sam shrugged, "She had a small cottage in the middle of nowhere near Prestonsburg in Kentucky. She owned a vegetable garden, a couple of chickens and cows and sold her produce at the market sometimes. She won some sort of prize for her tomatoes one year but that's about it. It looks like the most contact she had was with her pharmacist who went to her house after she didn't come for her meds and he found the body."

Giulia thought about this and tried to word the story she'd now have to say in her mind. So, my mom died and… no. I became 18 and decided to leave my crazy mother behind and search for the man she claimed was my father. I didn't even know she died. She nodded to herself, satisfied.

"Sorry, go on," she told Sam who had been waiting for her to pay attention.

"She had a home birth and filed the birth certificate with no father listed." he pointed to the envelope she was holding. "In there, you'll find your driver's license and everything I could find on Emma. The paternity test will arrive in a couple of days, I'll send it to the Salvatore house."

Giulia thanked him and left quickly after that, she had already paid him and Zach had a Council meeting to get to where he'd explain about his newly discovered daughter.
