CHAPTER 1
—"Do you believe in destiny?"
Pyrrha Nikos asked Cinder Fall, while in terrible pain after being hit on her heel by an arrow. the moment she knew that everything was set and done, that she had just seconds left to live and had no escape.
—"Yes" Cinder answered coldly. Materializing a bow and an arrow on her hands, with a glimpse of her yellow eyes, she stroked pure terror on Pyrrha's heart. Like a predator on a hurt deer… Pyrrha could feel the fear inside her rising to the highest level, when she realized that Cinder had actually answered her question. She looked at the moment of her imminent death now with even more horror. She understood immediately what that meant.
Cinder could see that she had hit a sensitive spot on her. She saw an expression of pure fear on Pyrrha's face. Fall had successfully terrified her and aimed right at the heart. Pyrrha was just looking at that arrow, with her green eyes wide open… Cinder Fall was going to steal her life right now. She had no choice but to accept her fate. She would not see her friends and family anymore…
There was no way to escape. Her time was almost over. Cinder Fall now pulled the string of her bow. The arrow was now flying in the air, towards Pyrrha's heart… She was not moving. She was letting it happen... she was just looking at the arrow heading toward her chest... and her final seconds of life. The moments where, finally, she would meet her fate.
The Invincible Girl was no more.
The arrow reached Pyrrha's heart. She was expecting pain, a lot of pain in the moment of impact... but the pain just wasn't coming. Pyrrha felt like she was going to disappear any second now. Her last thoughts were about Jaune... about her friends... about her family...
It was like she was saying goodbye to all of them... even to Cinder... in her mind... to everyone. But... she couldn't say a word, anymore. She just gasped in pain as Fall walked towards her.
The moment Cinder Fall touched Pyrrha's circlet, the light in Pyrrha's eyes vanished for good. Pyrrha vanished into thin air, the arrow right inside her heart. Ruby Rose ran out of breath, after reaching the top of the tower. She was looking for Pyrrha. But it was too late.
—"PYRRHA!" Ruby screamed as a mysterious, powerful flash of white light emerged from her silver eyes. Cinder was surprised to see the light coming from Ruby's eyes. She saw her silver eyes shining brighter than ever in that moment.
—"Wh-What?!" Cinder was speechless. She was not expecting to see anything like that.
She screamed and dropped the bow and arrow after Ruby shot her power. Cinder was surprised to see that her silver eyes really did that! She had seen it first hand now, Fall felt something burning inside of her head. That was a sharp pain that she had never felt before, but she felt it now. She was being punished for murdering Pyrrha.
Pyrrha's mind had now taken her to her darkest moment, to the moment her fate was sealed. It was like her mind was not letting her rest in peace...
It was like she was living those last moments of her life again, startled by her own last memories, all she could see was a white room.
—"Hello? Can anyone hear me?"
She looked around, it was a hospital room for sure, she was no longer dressed in her combat attire. Instead, she was wearing a blue robe, she perceived the beeping sound of an electrocardiogram machine connected to her.
—"Where am I?" She repeated to herself. She looked through the window and the first thing she saw was a pale, shallow, yellowish light entering through the curtains, a full moon, but looking more closely at it. Pyrrha could realize that it was a perfectly round moon instead of the shattered Remnant one.
—"This doesn't look real." Pyrrha thought to herself. There were no sounds – it was peaceful, and yet eerily quiet. She tried to get off the bed, but she couldn't move.
She was not in Remnant anymore.
Pyrrha's hand touched her thorax, where Cinder had shot her with the arrow. It was like that arrow was still there in her soul. Pyrrha's mind had now taken her to a place of suffering again. Pyrrha felt a pain in her chest.
—"Jaune..." Nikos whispered. Remembering her beloved partner, team leader and crush "Forgive me… for leaving you this way" She recalled that first, and last, very last kiss she gave to him before going up to the CCT to meet her destiny. Pyrrha could remember that special feeling in her heart... that feeling when she had kissed Jaune…
—"This is a nightmare! I will wake up back home. Everything will be fine. Just fall asleep again" She thought, closing her eyes and laying on her pillow "I can't be dead!"
Her plan didn't work out. She was still in that strange place.
—"Oh. Thank goodness. You're awake!" Next to her bed, a young lady with brown hair, glasses and a peppy smile, wearing some kind of blue uniform, with a blue vest, a matching tie and a white shirt greeted her. "I'll call Natsumi-san immediately!"
—"Excuse me. Who are you?" Pyrrha raised an eyebrow. "Can you tell me where I am?"
—"What? Don't you remember me?" The young lady said "I'm your partner. Officer Nikaido Yoriko. Saori-chan!"
—"Saori-chan?" Pyrrha asked with a puzzled expression. She turned her head towards the mysterious young woman. "Is this a dream or something?" Pyrrha then turned her head towards the window to observe the strange environment she was in. She suddenly noticed something that piqued her interest.
—"What is that?" Pyrrha stared at the early morning full moon shining dimly through the window.
—"It is... The Moon" Replied Yoriko. Pyrrha was in disbelief.
—"... This is not Remnant, is it?" She asked Yoriko.
—"What's Remnant? Saori-chan, what's going on?"
—"I... I don't know." Pyrrha was very confused. "But... You called me Saori. My name is Pyrrha."
—"It must be a consequence of the accident" Said Yoriko increasingly more worried
—"Accident?" Pyrrha turned her attention back to Yoriko. Her mind was still trying to process everything that was happening. Her body did not feel any different. "What accident?"
—"You were patrolling with Natsumi-san. As far as she told us. You were issuing traffic tickets to drivers who drove through a restricted area, when one of them. in a delivery truck…ran over you"
Pyrrha's eyes widened. She still didn't understand what was going on. She tried to move her arm and body to confirm whether she was ok or injured in some way. However, she was met with disappointment as she still couldn't move.
—"Why can't I move?" Pyrrha asked, confused.
—"Oh my. This is bad" Yoriko answered, worried "You had an accident Saori-chan. You are in the hospital"
With a frightened inhale, Nikos immediately took a better look around. The sound of something like trumpets entered her room. And the engine of some kind of airship fluttered around the building.
—"Can I borrow that?" Pyrrha asked Yoriko for her portable makeup mirror.
—"Sure" Yoriko, still worried, handed the tiny mirror to the girl she used to know as Saga Saori. Pyrrha Nikos opened the mirror and she looked at…a face. But it was not the face she used to have. Instead of her red hair, she had a light brown one, her eyes were round and black instead of green. She noticed a blood stained bandage around her forehead. Some bruises on her face, then she took consciousness of…her body? Her body was aching now. Especially her right ankle.
Yoriko pulled out of her purse some device that looked like a scroll. But it was tinier in size and had a lot of buttons on it. Pyrrha never saw a scroll like that before. Yoriko pressed some of the buttons and some minutes later. A doctor came to the room.
Yoriko told her about Saori's condition
—"Good morning. Saga-san" The doctor "I am your doctor. Matsushita Saeko. Your friend told me that you can't remember the accident?"
Pyrrha didn't know if the doctor was referring to her by her real name or her name as Saori. But she decided to ignore that. She looked at the mysterious doctor.
—"I... I can't remember anything. I was in Remnant and then all of a sudden I am here and I am somehow different." Pyrrha said with a confused tone in her voice.
—"It's quite normal that she can't remember the accident, it was a very traumatic event. But I'm worried that she can't remember her name either. We are going to do some tests on her"
Pyrrha was in disbelief. She could not believe this was happening to her. She just wanted to get back to Remnant. She wanted to remember everything. Pyrrha felt helpless and confused.
—"What tests are we talking about, Doctor?" asked Pyrrha with a worried expression on her face.
—"We are going to check on the state of your brain. We already did. But I think we may have missed something" Saeko and Yoriko helped Pyrrha to sit on a chair with wheels, they pushed the odd looking vehicle until reaching a room filled with even stranger looking machines.
Pyrrha's eyes widened in curiosity when she looked at the room filled with strange looking machines. "This is some medical equipment, right?" Pyrrha guessed. She felt nervous knowing that there was some kind of experiment going to happen. She just didn't understand how or what they were going to do. She never went to a hospital in Remnant. So, she didn't know if they had that same kind of machine. Weird tubes, lights, she felt like she was on a different planet…
And she was.
Pyrrha couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by everything. The bright and colorful machines, all the blinking lights, the weird tubes, everything was so foreign to her. Pyrrha was trying to understand what was going on and why she had to experience all of this. She just wanted to wake up and be back in Remnant. Was all of this just a dream?
She closed her eyes as the Doctor entered her in the magnetic resonance machine.
The first thing she could feel was weightlessness
Sheer weightlessness, like she was lying on a bunch of clouds. For a brief, blissful moment, that's all there was.
Then the memories started coming back again. The Vytal Tournament, Penny, Ozpin, the Maiden, the Kiss…and her own demise. Her heart started burning, as if there was still a fiery arrow lodged deep inside her.
Pyrrha Nikos was completely beaten by Cinder Fall...
"Aghhh..." Pyrrha screamed as the pain of being beaten by Cinder filled her mind. Pyrrha's body was shaking, and tears started falling from her eyes. "No... No, this is not happening!" Pyrrha screamed, not wanting to acknowledge what was happening. "I'm still alive, I'm still alive!" she begged in a desperate attempt to try and change the events.
"Do you believe in destiny?" She recalled asking Cinder.
"Yes" Cinder, then she fired the arrow that strikes Pyrrha right in the heart.
Pyrrha could feel the pain of the arrow hitting her heart, her body becoming limp. She couldn't believe this was happening. She just wanted to be with her friends, with Jaune, with Ruby. She wanted to be back in Remnant, to see her mother in Argus one last time, to go back to the Beacon Academy with her friends...
Pyrrha's mind was filled with negative thoughts, feeling hopeless. She felt like a failure as a huntress. Her destiny was to die. The thought of dying made her feel scared, and the lack of control she felt was unbearable.
"Saga-San. We are done with the resonance. You will return to your room to rest a little more. Leave everything to me. You'll be fine. I promise" Doctor Matsushita told Pyrrha Nikos taking her back from the memory of the now long gone world of Remnant
Pyrrha couldn't believe what was happening. She couldn't believe she was back in the hospital room with the unfamiliar white robe. She couldn't believe that everybody called her "Saga-San". Pyrrha had so many questions, but she felt exhausted, like she couldn't think straight. She was just trying to process everything that had happened to her.
The day progressed. More of the strange noises filled her hospital room.
—"What are those trumpets?" Pyrrha asked Yoriko once she felt more confident about her new state.
—"Um... Car horns" Replied Yoriko, still worried "As traffic officers. We hear them all the time. Can't you remember?"
Pyrrha laughed despite the situation.
—"I meant..." Pyrrha was still feeling disoriented. How could she forget about something so obvious? "Sorry. I am still feeling quite dazed."
Pyrrha said with a smile. She had so many questions about her new situation, but decided to hold back. She wanted to learn more about her situation and why everything seemed so foreign to her.
—"Saori Saga..." Nikos said to herself "My soul may have somehow traveled through space until finding a new host. This Saori girl..."
Pyrrha laid down on the hospital bed, staring up at the ceiling. Her mind was still trying to wrap around the fact that she was in the body of a different person. Everything felt so bizarre to her. Pyrrha was still trying to come to terms with the strange situation she found herself in. She wanted to figure out what had happened and how she had ended up in the body of Saga Saori.
—"Where I am?" She asked Yoriko once more, not hoping for an answer "Ruby...Nora...Ren...Professor Ozpin...Miss Goodwitch… How far away am I from Remnant?" She murmured. Yoriko sighed. She could see the disappointment on Pyrrha's face.
—"You are in... Japan" Yoriko continued, feeling sad for Pyrrha with a worried expression on her face.
—"Japan? But... why?" asked Pyrrha, confused. She just couldn't understand what was happening. Why was she in a different country, trapped in the body of a different person? Nothing she knew in Remnant made sense in this strange and unknown world.
—"Japan. Our country. One of the 200 that compose our world" Said Yoriko Nikaido trying to solve the puzzle inside the mind of who she thought it. And she was... But only physically
—"Wait... 200?" Pyrrha asked, confused. "There are 200 kingdoms in Remnant?" Pyrrha looked at Yoriko trying to understand what she meant.
—"Is there a map or something? I don't understand." Pyrrha said with confusion in her voice.
Yoriko looked embarrassed from Pyrrha's confusion.
—"You are not in Remnant" said Yoriko as she sighed. "You are in Japan, on Earth" she said with an awkward smile on her face.
—"Can you show me a map?" Pyrrha asked with desperation in her eyes. She wanted to find a way to fix this, to somehow go back to Remnant. She wanted to go back to her friends, to her family, to her home.
Yoriko looked surprised at the request, but after a second, she decided to fulfill Pyrrha's request. She walked to the other side of the room to grab her…scroll?. She used her scroll to show Pyrrha the world map.
—"This is Japan…" said Yoriko as she pointed at a landmass. Then she zoomed out, and pointed at other landmasses. "And this is the rest of the world." Yoriko said as she zoomed out even more.
—"Remnant... is not there" she said as she frowned, not knowing what else to tell Pyrrha.
