A/N: this is a companion piece to the episode "The Beast Within"

His Raven

The beast growled as he sensed Adonis nearby, in his territory. He got up ready to fight this invader, ready to protect those that were his or at least draw the threat away so they could regroup and help with the fight. He didn't know which yet, but he had to do something.

"Beast Boy…"

He jerked at the feminine voice that called for him, for Beast Boy.

Beast Boy would never say it, but he loved her and to the beast she was his most of all. Her scream rang in his ears, and he ran for her, but he wasn't fast enough, the other beast had her. That was unacceptable, she was HIS nobody touches her and gets away with it.

The beast tracked Adonis through the sewer system, not accepting the idea that anything bad could happen to her. He was livid when he found them, Adonis over her dazed form about to rip the clothing from her body, about to use her in the most primal way without her consent.

He tackled the other beast away grappling with him as his beloved succumbs to unconsciousness nearby due to taking a blow to the head. He makes space and runs to her picking her up by her hood and running to find safety, find a protected spot to hole up until he can come up with a better plan to keep his love safe. She groaned quietly regaining partial consciousness, he put her down and resumed human form, he hated this form, but he needed to be in this form if he was going to reassure his mate she was in no danger from him. He knelt cradling her in his arms, her unfocused amethyst eyes found his green ones.

"I know I attacked you and… and I am sorry about that" he said it sounded like Beast Boy's voice but gravelly and over an octave lower than normal "I do not know if you can understand me, mate, but I love you… and… I will make sure you are safe no matter what!" he vowed to her as her eyes slid closed again.

He heard someone approaching them and placed a kiss on her lips before returning to the beast's form and picking her up, running to find a safer place for them.

The beast found himself cornered then realized the ones that cornered him were friends. He set his beloved down as gently as he could and stepped back trusting them to keep her safe. Then the battle ensued he didn't understand at first, but as he went down it dawned on him that they were trying to protect her from him, but they were wrong, he would never hurt her. He let Beast Boy have control again but he was still there waiting, when the moment arose, when he had enough strength he would rise again and make his foe wish he had never laid a claw on her… the one who smells of old books, tea, herbs and lavender… the one he loves beyond all others… his dark goddess… his mate… his Raven.
