Hello, trolls lovers and fans out there! My friend Reby and I have been working on this tale for months. I am pleased to finally have the chance to publish the first chapter, though I must admit, I'm a little nervous in how much views this bring. But everyone is entitled to their opinion, as long as they're respectful, of course. This is the biggest chapter I've ever written, but since I've been away for so long, this hopefully makes up for my absence.

I want to personally thank all of you for reviewing my stories. After the arrival of Trolls World Tour, Trollstopia, and Trolls Band Together, there are some updates made since the first draft. Mind you, this tale was already set before the films came, but now it has been remade. There will be characters from the movies including new ones as well. I must warn you that this tale will bring plenty of drama, action, emotional moments, and dark, violet scenes.

My friends, especially Reby and Blackie, hope you're here because I finally present you my long waited and greatest trolls fanfic creation: Trollheart: Light in the Shadows!

Warning: Chapter may contain violence, mature themes and possibly death scenes!

Song Choice: Deliver us (From Prince of Egypt)

So, without further ado, here's chapter 1!

Disclaimer: I don't own Trolls, just OC's.

Enjoy!

Trollheart: Light in the Shadows

Chapter 1: Their Last Hope

Everyone has a power that comes from their heart. A journey they must take. A destiny to fulfill. Yet, most people feel content in their lands and never had the desire to leave the comforts of home. But over time, when even the mountains are calling, one can't resist the urge to answer the call and follow it, even if it leads to the unknown. And this is true for our troll friends when they realize that even though they are with their own kind, who ever said that they're the only trolls in this world?

Our story begins in a land far beyond their home where unique kinds of trolls with gifted abilities live hidden away from society. This place is known as the Heartlands, home to the Sage troll tribe. This immense land cannot be owned or tamed, but it is the Sage trolls' duty to protect it which is why it has been divided by territories, each ruled by a duke or duchess. While most tribes consist of only one kind of troll, the sage trolls consist of all species, living in unity. But what makes the sage trolls unique is their gift of magic. They lived together in harmony and are blessed to have dragons as their neighbors. Yes, dragons.

For you see, their history began with a legend. Long ago, a huge battle was fought against a powerful foe. Nocte, a being with unimaginable powers and rage. No troll knew the source of anger, only that he let the darkness consume him, turning him against anyone with happiness and love. He conquered the area from his crystal gem stronghold, however, there were others who went against him. One troll led the attack: Kunihiko, a rock troll bonded with his dragon friend, Skyheart and the first troll who shared a dragon's heart. Dragons and trolls of all kinds had gathered from across the land to fight. For days, the unspeakable battle was coming to an end, but Kunihiko and Skyheart combined their power and defeated Nocte. Victory was achieved by their unity and made their settlement there, naming it the Heartlands, in honor of their bond. The stronghold became a beacon of their promised alliances and over time, was remodeled into a vast structure for Kunihiko's descendants. Both creatures coexisted symbiotically for countless generations.

But now, that was not the case.

-Monteforte, Southern Heartlands-

It was a warm spring morning with clear skies ahead. Birds were chirping their melodies, butterflies fluttered about until they landed on some flowers before flying off again, and the sounds of the running brook echoed in the quiet forest. Silver glimmering fish can be seen from the surface as they swam along, unbeknownst of any predator that might come after them.

"Gotcha!" A trolling cried out as he pounced on the fish while making a huge splash, scaring the fish away. He burst out of the water while shaking the water off of him.

"That's no use!"

The trolling heard a cheerful adult voice behind him. This troll was a strong male in his late fifties with light aqua skin, dark gold hair and beard and blue eyes. His clothes consist of jungle green pants with a pale silver tunic, and an indigo cloak. He also wore a blue scale earrings. Beside him were 3 other trollings (a country, a funk, and classical) and one adult rock troll. These trolls wore unique clothing, consisting of tunics and special jewelry made from shiny scales.

"If you're that loud, the fish will escape quickly with ease," the golden-haired troll said.

"Well, Hakuro-sensei! Please show us how!" The girl country troll pleaded.

"Yeah, yeah! Show us! When are you gonna show us?!" The other trollings hollered, begging for him to teach them how to fish.

"That's enough!" The kids cringed, silencing their cries. They turned to the other adult next to them. "Show some respect to Hakuro! You should be grateful that he is teaching you anything at all! Especially in the state we're in."

"Why do you speak of our bad times, Marco?" Hakuro spoke in a whisper, not wanting to upset the young. "There's no need for that, even if it is true. Okay, just watch how I do it, learn it, and then try it for yourself."

The kids happily cheered while Hakuro went into the brook to fish. When he stopped, Hakuro inhaled and exhaled and then focused. His eyes then shone blue and raised his arms. Suddenly, various fish levitated out of the water, dangling into the air. The kids stood in awe while Hakuro's friend shook his head.

"Showoff."

"Hey, when you reach my age, you always wonder if you still got it," Hakuro then controlled the fish so that they land inside of the basket they carried. "Okay, Kai, since you have water abilities, let's see you try."

The clear blue funk trolling concentrated and managed to form a bubble with a fish inside, but then it popped, dropping the fish. "Oh, I can't get it right."

"It's fine. No need to worry. Practice a lot and you'll get better," Hakuro assured kindly, having known to be a fine teacher which all the children love.

After spending a lot of time fishing and practicing their powers, the six trolls decided to head back with their catch. They hauled their bags and carried their baskets. "It's getting late. We should head back to the sanctuary."

"Do we have to?" The classical trolling whined.

"Yes, we do. There are some things you do not want to see or face in the dark," Marco warned. "I'll escort you back. Let's go."

The six trolls then began their trek back home with Hakuro and Marco leading the way. Earlier today, Hakuro took the children to find food for their people as well as train their skills. Not that there isn't food to go around, but their territory is just no longer safe for any troll to be unescorted. They had to travel a while until they reached the border of Ducate of Monteforte, one of the Southern territories free from their enemies' grasp. Hakuro requested permission to fish in their brooks and the people granted them with Marco being their escort. Every second they have to spare, the adults used it to verify their surroundings, watching every corner and listening to every sound. Though they are heading to their place, it is not considered home. Every day, they are slowly losing bits of their land to their enemies. Since then, their numbers grow stronger while their people lose hope.

"When are we going home?" Kai asked.

"Won't be long now. It's just a little further," Hakuro replied.

"No. I mean home home. The one my parents talk about a lot."

The adults understood what he meant. They too missed their home, but it's just not possible at the moment. "I don't know when, but we will, someday. Hopefully soon," Hakuro said half-heartedly.

"You keep telling yourself that," Marco muttered.

Hakuro sighed softly. He tried to keep their hope alive for their sake. He remembered the days when their people were in their prime, living without fear, despair, or hate. They had endured harsh weather, famine and sickness, but each day, he sees glimpses of hope escaping their spirits, letting despair consume them and locking their fighting spirits away.

"Once we reach Kibonaga-sa, I must take my leave," Marco said. "I can't stray too far from my home."

"I understand, Marco. I thank you for the company you've given us," Hakuro gratefully replied. "I hope this will please him."

Marco sighed sharply. "Please, tell me you're not going with him, are you? Don't you deny it, Hakuro."

"Marco, we've been over this."

"Yeah, yeah. I know, but unlike you, I haven't forgotten what that man has done or is capable of. And I also haven't forgotten what his granddaughter has done, despite the warnings she was given," he growled. "It's because of her, we're in this mess."

"She didn't know what could happen. She did what she thought was right. But despite our situation, she's still my niece. The family bond is stronger than any magic," Hakuro stated. Marco didn't say anymore and kept on their way.

Suddenly, Hakuro halted and shushed the others. He twitched his ears and heard something coming their path. "Quick, under the trees!" He whispered, pushing the young ones under cover and stayed silent. Great flapping wings were heard, and they glimpsed a great shadow flying over the brook. They caught sight of a great dragon scanning below. They waited motionlessly, withholding their breaths and remaining nervously silent, until the dragon's shadow disappeared. Hakuro didn't hear anything and took the risk of leaving the safe zone. He slowly walked out and scanned to his left, then to the right, and finally, above. The dragon was nowhere in sight. "I think it's safe for now. Come out."

The rest joined him with relief shown on their faces. "The dragons have been patrolling more frequently lately. It's only a matter of time. To think they have been our closest allies and neighbors," Marco added glumly.

"They still are. Good dragons under the influence of bad people do terrible things. But just as they're bad trolls, dragons can choose to be bad if they want to. That is the curse of having free will," Hakuro explained solemnly. "You hurry on back now, Marco. We'll continue from here."

"But what about Ryu? You think he'll be pleased with your catch?" Marco wondered with concern. "You've been taking risks in leaving the safety he provides just so you could find any escape routes. Whatever you're planning, I don't believe it will work."

"He doesn't scare me," Hakuro assured him.

"Maybe you don't, but...you know what he is capable of," his friend warned.

"Can't be any worse than what Shard has done to us and our home. As long as Ryu is High Senator, there's no freedom or even happiness as it used to be. And to make matters worse, the only threat to his rule is his own grandson, the very reason we're at war. Having those two as leaders would be like us picking our poison," Hakuro explained. "The Heartlands will not survive if we let this go on. Someone's got to take the chance find help and bring hope to our future."

Marco didn't want to agree, but he cannot deny the truth in his words. He sighed and said, "Be watchful of your surroundings, Hakuro. As long as you're wearing that cloak, you'll be a greater target than the rest of us. After all, there aren't many Guardians left."

"I understand, but I don't have the heart to be rid of it. It's not just proof of passing the exam, but a symbol of our greatest honor as Guardians, but I appreciate your concern. Good luck, my friend."

"Good luck, Hakuro. May the White Lady speed you," Marco prayed for his safety before leaving the group to journey to Kibonaga-sa.

Hakuro continued on with the young trolls, making sure to stay out of sight from passing patrols. He sighed heavily. To think that they are living in this state: living in constant fear, seeing friend turn to foe, and not knowing if they will ever survive. He recalled how their home was stolen by someone they trusted, countless trolls suffering under the rule of their dictator as slaves, and worst of all, though they had formed a rebellion, the good sages have to endure the abusive leadership of their current leader, Ryu. He continued onward, wondering when all of this darkness will end.

-Eastern Kibonaga-sa, Center Heartlands-

The legend about the Heartlands is a tale that speaks across generations. It is the Sage Troll paradise: a beautiful, majestic valley surrounded by dense forests, vast waterfalls with a wide system of freshwater such as ponds, lakes, and rivers, rocky terrains, some geysers, and magma pools. For the most part, it lives up to its legendary reputation of having plentiful supply of food for all trolls who live there and lack of predators. Surrounding the valley, there are various mountain ridges and cave caverns where dragons would take shelter and make their nests inside if necessary. Within the Central Heartlands stood what was once Nocte's stronghold but now is currently Ryu and his family's home. It is a great prism-like crystal building, remodeled as a home for the Kunihiko's family but also serves as a training ground for sages and as the meeting place for the Senate.

Since Kunihiko and Skyheart's victory, the two heroes and their allies protected the lands with Kunihiko as their High Leader. Because the Heartlands is vast, they decided to divide it by three regions, forming eleven territories ruled by Kunihiko and his band. There are five territories in the Northern Heartlands, five territories in the Southern Heartlands, and the biggest territory, known as Kibonaga-sa, is in the Center Heartlands. Their descendants continued the legacy by generations, ruling as dukes or duchesses. Together, the leaders form the Senate (a council where they gather and make new laws), and the High Senator is the one who decides each law. The title of High Senator is won by election and is the highest ambition for every Duke. Any law can only be created or denied by the High Senator's final word. The sages had avoided many conflicts because of this system, and all was peaceful.

Unfortunately, their home has been desecrated by two current tyrants. The first is the current High Senator, Ryu. From his childhood, he has been trained, taught, and educated in order to earn the High Senator title, believing it is his birthright as Kunihiko's descendant. However, he is an ambitious, selfish, sexist, malevolent, and abusive sage who won't hesitate to personally punish those who oppose to him. He doesn't even consider female trolls worthy of ruling despite being heirs and rules with an iron fist.

The second tyrant is Ryu's rival, at least, through his eyes, but is just as bad as Ryu, maybe even worse. He came out of nowhere with an army of rogue dragons, dragon hunters, and other sage trolls loyal to him and brought chaos to the Sage trolls. Under his rule, he had conquered the Eastern Heartlands and built a great wall, dividing half of the Heartlands, formed alliances with some of the Northern and Southern territories, and managed to decimate the land, including killing several loyal sages. Luckily, there are many Sage trolls who remained free from this tyrant's grasp while the good-hearted dragons flew away to safety. Those captured by the invaders became imprisoned, forced to work every day and be treated as slaves in an attempt to break their spirits. But their greatest pain was seeing their own brothers turn to the dark side. On the day their happiness ended, brother fought against brother. What was once a sacred paradise, it is now a land of despair and torment.

Under the scorching sun, the prisoners did heavy labor for their 'leader' while slave drivers urged them with whips to make them work faster. As they worked, even if their captors hate it, they sang their pain and misery to pass the time.

xx(Music Begins)xx

The country sage trolls were working their sweat out pulling wagons filled with cargo across the mud. The pop trolls began mixing sand, straw, and water into mud with their feet to create bricks to enforce the great wall and some defenses they were forced to build. The Techno trolls and any sage troll with strength enhancing skills and elemental magic dumped more materials in the mixing areas. The slave drivers whipped them, just to make them work faster without rest and delay.

Some slaves dug deep ruts while others carried heavy loads of weaponry despite the weight on their backs. They even went out to hunt for food but under supervision, so they don't try to run off and only come out of their places when being told.

"FASTER!" One guard ordered, whipping a poor troll who was nearly exhausted from working.

Everywhere we see, trolls suffered from the labor, weather, and mostly, the harsh, cruel treatment from their superior, receiving only scars from the whipping with no rest or respect. As the prisoners slaved away, the guards gave out orders, patrolled the area, and guarded their territory, but the cold-hearted did not hesitate to maliciously abuse the broken and break the weak.

"Make way!"

The guards heard one of their scouts dashing through the area in a speed unlike any other. Passing through the security, the guards let him pass, knowing he has an urgent message to pass on. He ran into his leader's fortress where he could see sturdy walls, long corridors, and countless doors. He saw some guards pushing the slaves down into the dungeon and heard captains giving out orders. He didn't stop until finally he found the room he was looking for. Normally, no one would dare enter inside unless it's for a good reason or wants a death wish. He pushed the door and immediately bowed before the troll in front of him.

His appearance consists of dark purple skin with black hair like ash and blood red hair on the tip and gold eyes with black spiked markings under it. He wore a dark red tunic with black pants, armored shoulder pads and a drape made from dragon skin. He is a cruel, arrogant, and cunning overlord, ruling with an iron fist. He can be powerful and truly menacing when he needs to. Despite the sudden disturbance, he remained unfazed and continued looking out from his window, overlooking his domain.

"Lord Shard! One of the dragons picked up a trace of a small band of trolls heading towards Ryu's location from the northern woods. Unfortunately, sir, they lost them."

"Did they carry cloaks? Are any of them recognizable?" Shard spoke calmly.

"They were regular Sage trolls, but they discovered a familiar scent on one of them. It must be the troublesome female rebel," the scout said. He heard a low growl coming from Shard. He then continued. "And there's something else. The Black Swordsman is with her. We believe they came for her, my lord. Your savior."

Shard's eyes narrowed. He saw the skies beginning to darken and rumbling clouds beginning to gather, bringing a storm with them. "Summon Darkfang and lead his dragons on the last location. Burn the area if necessary. Gather my top generals and wait for my arrival. We're going hunting."

"Sir, and what of the rebels and the one you speak of with the dragon form?"

"Kill anyone who stands in your way but capture the dragon girl, the rebel leader, and the Black Swordsman. Bring them all to me alive. If I'm gonna enjoy my revenge for all the trouble they caused us, I want my toys to be 'brand new' before I break them. As for the dragon girl, if any harm comes to her, the consequences will be severe. Believe me, I would know every pain she feels," he gave his threats with warning, grasping the left side of his chest.

-Western Kibonaga-sa, Center Heartlands-

Soon, the day quickly became shrouded by grey clouds until the sun can no longer be seen. Hakuro and the children reached the settlement safely where they were welcomed by the people. The children happily took their share to their families as Hakuro carried the rest for the hungry trolls to eat. The other trolls thanked him for the food, but he wasn't so sure of how Ryu would react. The High Senator didn't look pleased but didn't even bother to say a word, only a single nod escaped from him. Hakuro was off the hook and quickly went to join his family. It always warms Hakuro's heart seeing his family after a day's out in the forest where Shard's spies might be patrolling. For a long time, his family lived with worried hearts under Ryu's watch while avoiding Shard's forces. However, this fear won't last forever. He quickly went out to a balcony, using a scope to look across the land and caught glimpse of Shard's wall. Guards stood watch with weapons in hand, dragons flew in and out, and the dark fortress stood ominously in the center. He pondered and looked above him. The sky was dark as the night until it was brightened by lightning flashes, warning him of heavy rain.

"Storm's approaching. Wonder if mother nature is on our side," Hakuro hoped. Though he and the others are protected here, he wished to bring his family out of danger or even find help from beyond. Still, their laws bind them to this place, never daring to travel beyond their land to other kingdoms. Bringing out a heavy sigh, he started to recollect his time with his loved ones.

-Flashback-

"Hakuro, my brother, I'm glad to see you home safe, but you shouldn't risk yourself going out there alone," a female troll said worriedly. She had beautiful sunset colored skin, royal blue hair, and spring green eyes. She wore a dark purple dress with yellow lightning bolts, sash, and a dark teal cloak. She also wore a sky blue, dragon scale ankle bracelet on her left foot.

"My dear sister, no matter the circumstances, I'll always provide for my family. I brought some food for you all, Arashi, though it may not be much," Hakuro said, bringing his catch to the small table.

"Any food is a blessing. We really appreciate all you're doing for us, Hakuro. Unlike a neighbor, you can always count on a brother," Arashi graciously said.

"Unlike a parent." The two siblings turned to see an adult male troll joining them. He was a middle aged, fit troll with silver skin, light blue hair, and sky-blue eyes. He had lightly covered, light blue facial hair, age lines, and wore an indigo tunic with a red belt, spring green long pants, scale headband, and a teal cloak. "We're losing our homes, trolls are slowly dying, and he doesn't seem to care! How could he let this happen to our people, our family, our legacy?"

"Gin, he is the High Senator after all," Hakuro explained. "We have no say in what he decides."

"He doesn't deserve that title. He's no leader! And to have him as my father and my children's grandfather! Doesn't that mean anything?" Gin growled. "I wouldn't be surprised if he alone is the reason my aunt and uncle left us."

Arashi gently shushed him. "Please, keep your voice down. Your father doesn't like the mention of his siblings in his presence, especially his brother. Plus, you're going to upset your kids."

Unbeknownst to the three, two beings eavesdropped from behind their doors. They could hear Gin feeling stressed out with Hakuro and Arashi being the voices of reason.

"I know how he feels about him, but I speak highly of him, even though I never met him," Gin sighed sadly. "Ever since my cousin told me about him, I felt like I found a piece of me I didn't even know was missing. Her stories made us feel closer somehow, reminding me how a family should truly feel."

"Gin..." Arashi comforted him with a hug.

"I'm okay. But Ryu's judgements are clouding his sight. He's letting this war go on and has the audacity to put the blame onto my daughter! If anyone's to blame is him!"

Arashi listened to her husband, feeling him take sharp exhales. "I know you're scared. I am too. But at least we're all here together."

"But for how long?" The couple faced Hakuro. "It's only a matter of time before Shard orders another assault. He has special plans for all of us and believe me, it won't be merciful."

Gin scoffed. "I won't make it easier for him. I still have some fight in me."

"What about my sister? What about Sora? You're willing to risk their lives too?" Hakuro argued. "Now's not the time to fight. Nor is the time to hide. We need a plan."

Gin knew that his brother-in-law is a wise and honorable sage and grateful to have him as a family member. He grew up without any siblings. Hakuro was the closest he got to a brother since some friends he grew up with were lost during the war. Though he was willing to die for his family, Gin knows that there has to be some other way.

Footsteps followed after the silence and the three trolls turned to see two trolls slowly walking out of the darkness. The first troll was a tall 30-year-old male troll with Tyrian purple skin, teal hair, and ruby brown eyes. He wore a purple, long sleeved shirt with a brown vest, red pants, and brown sandals. Beside him was a beautiful young female troll about 26 with silvery blue skin, dark blue hair, and piercing spring green eyes. She wore a simple white dress with an aquamarine sash, a dragon scale necklace, and a headband made from different colored gemstones.

"We apologize for interrupting, but we couldn't resist overhearing," the male asked. "As for your plan, remember what we would do if worse came to worse?"

"No," Arashi shook her head.

"I'm sorry, mom. I never thought it would come to this. At least I hoped not. But there's no other way," the young female sadly spoke. "It's all my fault. I'm the one who brought this tyranny to our land, our home. The least I can do is to protect our legacy, even if it means running away."

"Sora, you are not the fault here. Even you wouldn't have known all this would happen," Gin assured her softly.

"Maybe not, father," she continued. "But this isn't about me. This is about our people. We can't stay here."

"I won't let you. You're my children!" Arashi argued desperately.

"We knew it would come to this, my love," Gin tried to reason with her.

"Come to what? What are you talking about?" Hakuro asked, expecting an immediate answer.

"You can't expect them to just abandon the only family they've ever known!"

"Arashi, it's their only chance to be safe," Gin said. "I don't agree with this, but I love my children so much that I'm willing to do anything for them. You know that." His voice, though serious, worry and fear can be heard along with it.

"I believe it's time for us to leave the Heartlands and go to where Shard won't find us and hopefully, find help," Tack solemnly said.

"Send Tack and Sora beyond our home borders? You can't be serious!" Hakuro exclaimed. "It's too dangerous, not to mention it's against our sacred laws!"

"Hakuro, if you love your niece and nephew and care one wit about their future, you'll do this favor without question!" Gin yelled. Hakuro disliked this idea yet knew if there was any hope for her, for all of them, they just have to risk it. "They'll be safe. They have each other. If anyone of our family should be sent away, it will be them, our last hope."

"Arashi, please! This is madness," Hakuro pleaded once more. "Even if Shard won't find them there, the chances of escaping are slim. All the borders are heavily patrolled!"

"Brother, I love you dearly, but this is my daughter's life. And though Tack isn't of my blood, he is my son. If Shard doesn't get them, they still have Ryu to deal with. I won't let them continue with this life full of fear." Arashi wrapped her arms around herself, trying to be brave for them.

Hakuro knew there's no winning this argument once his sister has made up her mind. "If that is what you decide, I'll do what I can to help you." He saw his sister smile and wrapped her arms around him. He hugged her in response. "Now, the question is this, where would they go?"

"Far from here, obviously," Tack replied.

Gin thought a moment. "I might have an idea where you should go." He then went to a great trunk where he pulled out a long roll of parchment. He unrolled it across the table where it revealed itself as a map of the troll lands. "This map contains every landmark in and out of our borders. Everything where it is unmarked is our land."

"Where did you get this map?" Hakuro wondered.

"Every leader has a copy of it, including our family. But after my uncle Kiba left, they had every copy destroyed. My father wanted me to burn it, but I hid this, so instead I burned a fake copy to fool him. Good thing I did. It might be dangerous, but it can't be more dangerous than here," Gin said. He then marked a specific area. "Here is where my uncle was last seen, same place where my cousin was born and raised. The best path to take is through the border of Led."

"So, let me get this straight: you want them to go seek the Pop village?" Hakuro thought this whole idea is preposterous. Gin nodded. "Gin, with all due respect, I don't think it's possible. The Pop village is very well hidden. Not even Shard has found it...yet."

"I know it's a long shot, but I don't know who else to turn."

"But even if we do find it, how can the Pop trolls help us? They don't have magic like you do. They are not warriors...at least not anymore," Tack added.

"Hopefully someone might be willing to fight," Gin said with wishful thinking. "This danger will not stop in our land. It will spread beyond our home, affecting everyone as well."

"I don't know, Gin. There's no guarantee they'll find anyone who might help us," Arashi doubtfully said.

"But if there's a chance, we have to at least try, right?" Sora declared.

The other adults knew that this might be their one opportunity to escape and seek the answer to save their home from Shard's tyranny. Gin nodded silently. Arashi and Hakuro knew the risks, but they silently agreed for Sora's sake.

"Alright, you two prepare yourselves and take only what you need. You'll leave tonight," Gin ordered. Tack and Sora nodded and headed to their rooms to pack up. Once knowing they're alone, Gin turned to his wife and Hakuro. "Maybe it would be best if both of you go too."

"And leave you here to deal with Ryu alone? Never," Arashi denied. "I'll stay by your side forever, Gin. Besides, it will be quicker if only Tack and Sora leave."

"She's right, Gin, Hakuro agreed. "And they must hurry. It's only a matter of time before Ryu or Shard discovers our plan."

Arashi said solemnly. "As uncertain as things are, none of us can remain idle and watch as our worst fears unfold before us."

Gin agreed. "Hakuro, make haste to the woods and seek the Black Swordsman and the Rose Rebel. Tell them we seek their protection." Hakuro accepted his mission with a nod. "We'll remain here until your task is complete," Gin said as both Arashi and Hakuro looked on sadly. "May our ancestors look after us and keep us safe in these dark times."

-End Flashback-

A sudden drop on his face followed by various more brought Hakuro back to reality. Heavy rain began falling everywhere, rattling drops can be heard through the walls and floor and noticed the ground softening with every added moisture. Hakuro sighed again.

"At least this rain may cover any tracks we'll make on the way." Putting on his hood, he withdrew inside and prepared for the mission he has.

The rain fell heavily over the forest after Hakuro left his home. As he walked, he listened to the forest, picking up every sound. Thunder thudded loudly and lightning flashed, striking across the dark sky, rain drops hitting every leaf, branch, and puddles. It would have been a sight to behold if he was under shelter. He had completed the task in alerting both the Rose Rebel and the Black Swordsman of their escape plan. They both agreed to help and will meet up with them near the border of Led, one of the free Northern territories. But suddenly, he stopped. His ears twitched, picking up a strange sound. Wings flapping loudly. Something was coming and he didn't like the sound of that.

"What is that?" Hakuro whispered. Suddenly, a blast exploded near him, sending him into the trees as mud splashed over him. Luckily, Hakuro came out unharmed. "What's happening?!" Observing from the bushes, he caught sight hordes of armored trolls and dragons setting the forest to flames. He gasped, hoping that he wasn't discovered. Judging from their actions, it would seem that they're searching for something...or someone. He feared for the answer. Thinking quickly, he puts his hands together and creates a light blue energy ball. He then fired the ball away from his spot and towards some trees, exploding on impact.

"Over there!" One guard shouted. "Don't let them get away!" The enemy horde followed the blast.

Hakuro peaked out of his hiding place, checking to see if the coast is clear. "That won't keep them for long. I have to go back!" He dashed ahead towards the deep forest.

Sounds of fighting can be heard in the woods, roars echoed through the trees, and a great burning wildfire spread through the forest despite of the pouring storm. Shard's forces were in the middle of a fight with soldiers from the Northern territories. Magic blasted from their attacks and weapons clanged when made contact. The Sage trolls fought bravely but were greatly outnumbered and outmatched. Several bodies lay in the area either slain by dragons or Shard's men. A great dragon led the attack and fought against some rebels. His colors were revealed when lightning flashed consisting of grayish purple with gray underbelly scales and blue crest scales and horns. His fangs were razor sharp, stained with troll blood and his wings were massive with some rips on the edges. This dragon killed one troll and then, out of malice, ripped its flesh off.

Hakuro ran ahead, maintaining a low cover from the enemy. "What in blazes is going on?!"

"Hakuro!"

Hakuro heard his name and was joined by Gin, Arashi, Tack, Sora, and two other trolls. The first troll was a young 29-year-old male with bluish teal skin, reddish pink hair that slightly covers his left eye, and purple eyes. He wore a black cloak, brick red tunic, black ripped pants, and carries a long sword. The other troll is a middle-aged female with her face covered by a dark rose red cloak and wore a sapphire blue and pink, short sleeved kimono dress.

"What's all the fuss about?" Hakuro asked.

"It's Darkfang! He caught our scent from our last whereabouts," the Black Swordsman explained. "Luckily, the forces of Led clashed with them when they got near their border. The soldiers are fighting to the death, but they can't keep this up much longer!"

Hakuro stared in horror as Darkfang ravaged another troll, leaving what's left of him to the ground. The dragon roared loudly; its echoes being heard for miles. Such terror to behold. His mouth hung opened, yet no words escaped from him.

"Hakuro, please take them with you and escape," Gin said. "Arashi and I will stay behind to help them while buying you some time."

The Rose Rebel turned to the parents. "Floyd will also stay to help."

The reddish pink haired troll heard his name being mentioned and frowned at this. "What?"

"I'll protect them until they reach the borders. You can leave this to us," she declared.

"I can't do such a thing! I must go with you!" Floyd argued.

"Sora's is not only Ryu's granddaughter, but she is one of the last generations of Kunihiko and future heir of Kibonaga-sa! As long as she's in here, she's in danger! We must also protect her and Tack!" The Rose Rebel told him. "Besides, you're stronger than I am. Your sword skills will give them an advantage against the enemy." Floyd glanced at Sora. Sora's eyes were filled with dread and worry despite being comforted by Tack. "We must get them out of here without fail!" Floyd remained silent. "Please, do this for me, my son!" The Rose Rebel pleaded once more.

Floyd lowered his head in submission. "Understood, mother. Please, be careful, all of you."

"You be careful," his mother replied. Floyd then grabbed her in a tight grip, scared of letting her go. She returned the hug, expressing her deep love for her son, hoping this isn't the last time they would see each other.

Arashi then gently held her daughter's silver face and touched foreheads before she kissed it. "Be safe, be strong, and be brave, my daughter. We love you."

"I will, mother. I love you all," Sora softly replied, praying that all will be well.

Gin then shared a hug with his daughter and son, giving his farewell and love to them.

"Let's go, you two!" Hakuro ordered before taking the lead.

"Okay!" Tack agreed, gently tugging Sora's hand for her to follow. The Rose Rebel followed behind. The two parents and Floyd sadly watched them disappear from view. Arashi struggled to keep her tears from falling, but Gin comforted her, assuring her that their daughter is in good hands. Like any mother, she prayed for her daughter's safety wherever it leads her.

They aren't the only ones who tried to keep their emotions in check. Floyd did not wish fight with the warriors, but rather be by his mother's side. They've been together since they lost their family at the last horrible event known as Trollstice. His mother is the only one left and if anything happens to her, he'll never forgive himself.

Once the escapees disappeared from view, the three trolls immediately left to help the others.

-Led, Northern Heartlands-

Flames spread out like a virus, thunder roared above them like a pack of Growlbeasts, and echoing cries, screeches, and yells can be heard from behind them no matter how fast or how far they ran. The four trolls kept on going until they quickly hid behind a huge stone to catch their breaths.

"I hope nobody saw us. We should keep moving," the Rose Rebel said with slight exhaustion. "How far we have to go?"

"I didn't have enough time to study the map, but once we're out of these woods, we'll make a run for it," Hakuro admitted.

"Then we must hurry," Tack insisted.

The trolls heard a twig snapped and remained silent. The rain, thunder, and battle cries blocked the source of the sudden sound, yet they knew they were being followed. They cautiously looked around.

"We have to leave," Tack whispered.

Hakuro and the Rose Rebel faced one another and nodded. "No, only you two. We'll stay behind and cover for you. As long as you two make it out, that's all that matters."

"You can't, uncle!" Sora argued.

"Our duty is to protect you. If it means staying behind to fight as you two escape, we will. Run towards the border and if you make it past the gorge, you're free. Run and don't look back no matter what," Hakuro ordered. "Understand?"

Sora didn't say a word, only glanced at both trolls hoping it won't be the last time she'll see them. She silently nodded in agreement.

"We'll be fine. We didn't become Guardians for nothing, and our enemies will see why we lasted this long," the Rose Rebel assured them confidently.

Tack and Sora were impressed by their bravery. Despite their age, they got a lot of spirit to go around. "Be careful and thank you," Tack said.

The Guardians smiled. "Now go. Ride out this storm and live to fight another day," Hakuro shared his wisdom. The two young trolls ran ahead without looking back and disappeared into the darkness.

Hakuro and the Rose Rebel stood firm in their stances with their hands glowing with their magic. Their backs touching the other and their eyes analyzing their surroundings. Suddenly, they both heard a cry above and caught sight of a troll with glowing purple aura claws lunging at them from above. Luckily, they both leaped away and dodged his strike.

This troll was a cunning and dangerous rock troll with neon green eyes, deep plum hair in a spiky mullet, and raspberry skin. He wore a dark plum tunic, dark burgundy pants and a gold cloak, similar to the ones the Guardians wore. He and the two trolls circled one another.

"Well, it would seem that there are still some surviving Guardians. And I thought I was the only one left," the male cruelly said.

"Tsume," Hakuro growled, recognizing his attacker.

"You have no right to be considered a Guardian, not with a tainted heart like yours," the Rose Rebel snarled. "And you dare wear his cloak?"

"You could say it was his dying wish," Tsume grinned as he raised his claws, anticipating their moves while waiting to strike. "I must say that I'm surprised to find you both alive...and alone. But I am not disappointed. This time, your farewells will be forever!"

"Time you learn how complicated life can be, youngster, especially when you're outnumbered two to one!" She summoned fire in her palms while Hakuro held an energy sphere.

"Outnumbered, maybe...but you're outmatched!"

The guardians were confused until the Rose Rebel saw a shadow looming over them and getting bigger the closer it got. "Look out!" Both she and Hakuro became separated when a purple tail slammed between them. Hakuro looked behind him to see Darkfang's menacing being.

"It's the end of the line, trolls!" The beast snarled.

"Don't take this the wrong way, Rose, but we are really getting too old for this," Hakuro said.

"Well, let's remind these monsters not to mistake old age for weakness," Rose bravely stated despite the odds. She lined herself with Tsume while Hakuro faced the dragon. They shared glares, planted their feet to the mud, and positioned themselves to attack.

Tsume chuckled. "Take one last smell of fresh air, Rebel, because your freedom will be forever lost before I personally deliver to you to Shard!"

"Bring it, you snake!"

"Guardians is on the menu tonight," Darkfang licked his chops.

"Come at me, lizard boy!" Hakuro taunted.

The four roared out their battle cries and charge towards each other, releasing their might. Before they know it, the fight was on!

Tack and Sora panted while they dashed through the rain, trying to avoid capture. They kept running despite hearing their friend's cries echoing in the forest. Sora turned her head with worry.

"We can't just run away and let them die!" Sora yelled.

"We must. It's too dangerous for both of us!" Tack said. Sora's eyes became misty from the thought of the family she was leaving behind. "Going back would mean ignoring their pleas. You must understand this is something they must do on their own!"

They once again heard their shouts, but they kept on going, putting their emotions under control no matter how hard it was or how much it is destroying them. Suddenly, a huge lightning bolt struck a tree and it came crashing down right in front of them.

"That was close! Come on, let's go this way!" Tack pulled Sora to the left and dashed through the trees. They reached the cliff wall which was covered by some fog. The wall lit up by the lightning, revealing the wet rocks before the trolls. The wall looked steep and risky, yet knowing their lives were at stake, they moved on and started climbing over the rocks.

They looked back to see if they were being followed. Two trolls were hot on their tails, attempting to climb the rocks. They quickly hopped over the wet rocks, carefully watching their steps in a hurry. Tack and Sora needed to lose their pursuers and fast. A noise alerted Tack and saw the rainwater move a bunch of rocks in a pile. He pulled Sora up ahead of him, urging her to continue to the top. Once he caught sight of the trolls under him, he started budging and pushing the rocks until they gave out and the rocks fell upon the pursuers, causing them to fall down the wall.

Panting heavily, Tack caught up with Sora and both of them managed to reach the top, only to realize there was nowhere else to go except back down. A vast waterfall appeared in front of them with mist covering the foot of it, not knowing whether there is deep water or even sharp rocks at the bottom.

"Now what? There's nowhere else to go!" Sora fearfully stated. At this point, it all seems hopeless. Going back would be a death wish and going over the falls is no picnic either.

Tack knew if anyone should escape this, it's Sora. A troll wouldn't survive a fall like this and would probably surrender, but one thing he knows is that Sora is no ordinary troll. "There is one way: we have to fly."

"Fly? Tack, you can't be serious!"

"I am. Sora, I know you can do this. It's the only way," Tack assured her. Sora looked beyond the horizon. Though it is unknown to her, it is still untouched by their enemy's forces. She knows he's right and yet, the thought frightens her. "Come on, Sora. We don't have much time!"

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Sora asked.

"Of course! Aren't you?"

"Well...yes," she hesitated. "It's just..."

"I know. I'm scared too," Tack softly admitted, gently placing his hands on her shoulders. "Look, I don't know what we're gonna find out there, but our lives will be miserable here. We can't stay."

Sora looked into his eyes and knew that it's their one chance of survival. With a silent nod, she inhaled and exhaled as she prepared to take flight. Suddenly, Tack heard a sound and shoves Sora away from him as a sudden dark sphere exploded between them. The blast blew them into the wet ground, yet they were unharmed.

Coughing from the smoke, Tack and Sora gasped at the dark silhouette in front of them. A flash of lightning revealed himself as the one troll they were desperately trying to get away from: Shard.

"Looks like I wasn't late for my own family reunion," Shard smirked. "And about your idea, well, you're half right, Tack. You're leaving, but Sora stays with me."

"That's up to her, Shard!" Tack growled, putting himself between Shard and Sora.

"You know what? You're absolutely right," Shard calmly said with a menacing smile. "Go ahead, Sora. Choose your fate."

"My parents welcomed you long ago, Shard. We grew up together. We're family. If you have any amount of goodness in your heart, or what's left of it, you know what must be done! But if not, then we must leave. I won't spend one second with you. I'm sorry," she refused in a regretful tone. She knows the consequences for going against Shard, however, she remained true to her beliefs.

Shard narrowed his eyes. "Not as sorry as you will be," he threatened, pulling out a sword that was hidden away in his drape. "Now I'm about to show you why I'm the Lord of my Land," Shard took two steps forward, forcing Tack and Sora to move equal steps backwards. "Rarely, I show any leniency, but for you, I'll make an exception. So, I'll say again. Sora, Tack, if you vow to stay and pledge your life to me, I'll spare your lives. I can't say the same for the rest of your friends. I will even forget about our...past differences. After all, I do owe you my life. That is my only offer!"

Sora didn't need any minute to make this decision. Though she, Tack, and Shard share the same blood from their father, what Shard has become is no longer the brother she remembered and the sages' suffering is proof of it. "Shard, despite our past, there's only one answer for this: I'd rather pledge my life to a Bergen's rear end than the likes of you!"

"Somebody ought to teach you some respect!" Shard snarled and raised his sword, but Tack tackled him to the ground.

"If you want to hurt her, you'll have to go through me!"

"Tack, what are you doing?!" Sora gasped at his actions.

"Quick, Sora, get away! FLY!" Tack yelled as Shard struggled to escape. Shard then pulled his legs under Tack's belly and kicked him away. Tack quickly got up and pulls a dagger from his waist and clashed with the purple troll. Both trolls fought against each other, dodging their attack and clashing their weapons under the storm.

Sora stared in worry until she attempts to stop them. "Leave him alone!" She jumped at Shard, trying to pull him from Tack. Shard then shoves her away, hitting her head onto a rock, knocking her out.

"Sora!" Tack yelled. He headbutts Shard and both males stood their ground, panting. Their bodies were wet from the rain, mud covered their skin from head to toe, and bruises and scratches were received during the fight.

"It looks like it's just you and me now, brother!" Shard spatted out.

"You lost the right to call me brother long ago!" Tack said. He gazed upon Sora's body, motionless yet alive after watching her breathing. "I don't understand, Shard. We had each other. What happened to you? The Shard I knew wouldn't have done this. Don't you remember the happiness we shared, the fun we've had, the friends we've made?"

"You mean back when I was weak?" Shard glared.

"And how could you betray the people that took us in after all we have lost? You've destroyed everything the sages stood for!"

"The sages are cowards! They're weak, spineless, and with all the power they have, instead of using it to fix problems and rid of all our enemies, they've hidden themselves in a hole! Only the strong will rise and put the weak out of their misery. And their honor is another form of weakness!" Shard growled maliciously. "You're right, Tack. The old Shard wouldn't have done any of this, but the old Shard died long ago!"

A lightning bolt struck between them. As Tack shielded himself from the light, Shard gripped his sword and with a yell, he charged at his brother, determined to kill him. Tack grabs his brother, causing him to drop his weapon including his own and threw him aside over the edge. Tack heard his yell and became alarmed, thinking he fell. Looking over the edge, he saw that Shard held on to a stone, hanging for dear life.

"Tack! Please, help me!" Shard cried out fearfully. Tack didn't move, analyzing his brother's eyes to see if there was any hint of good in him. Shard grunted when his foot slipped off the wall. "Tack, I'm your brother. You wouldn't kill your own blood. Please!"

Not wanting his brother to die, Tack quickly stretched out his hand to him. "Take my hand!"

Shard tried to reach it. Tack stretched a little further, with only their fingers touching. Suddenly, the rock broke and before Shard could fall, Tack's teal hair quickly wrapped his hand before he could fall down below. With his last amount of strength, he pulled his brother onto the cliff. Shard panted heavily and glanced at his elder brother. "You've saved me."

"I could never hate you for what you've done and not even you deserve to die. I'm not a murderer," Tack panted, coming to him. He offered his hand to him which Shard took with uncertainty. "If you are my brother, then you must stop this madness. It's not too late."

Shard was surprised by his suggestion. For years, he had dominated the land and its people, using his authority to force his prisoners into submission and punishing anyone who disagree with him. If only giving up such power and role is easy. He lowered his head, not wanting to face him. "It hurts," he said with a sad tone. "Everything hurts. I don't want feel any pain."

"Then you must stop fighting. Whatever's hurting you, don't hold on to it. Let it go."

Unbeknownst to them, Sora groaned from her spot and opened her eyes to see the two brothers standing face to face.

Tack then embraced his brother, hoping the kindness might push him towards the right path. For a few seconds, it seems that things are looking up.

SQUISH!

Tack gasped at the sudden pain. Looking down, he saw his own dagger piercing his chest by Shard. Blood slowly flowed from the wound. He looked at his brother, shocked and horrified. Shard's face showed no remorse or any emotion.

"NOOO!" Sora cried out at the scene.

Shard remained unmoved by this act and said, "You've hurt me when you chose to be loyal to Sora and her pathetic family years ago. The betrayal was truly an excruciating pain that must be eliminated. And your death shall suffice. Thanks for the tip." He then took out the dagger and threw it away.

Tack coughed out some blood and stared at his brother not in anger, but regret and disappointment. "Our bond...could never be fixed. Your powers are strong...but your heart will always...be weak," Tack struggled to speak as he fell to his knees and then to the ground. He could feel his life fading away with each passing second. He turns to face a distraught Sora and with a heavy heart, he weakly spoke with a smile. "You save us...Sora. You've given us... a good life. I may not have powers...but at least...I had the honor of being your brother. Go...and live for tomorrow. I am proud to call you my sister, Sora, and I...I will always...love...you." Tack exhaled his last breath, his eyes closing forever, and his body fell limp.

"With you out of the way, the past is truly dead to me," Shard taunted.

Sora's eyes brimmed with tears, crying for the death of her friend. But deep down, it's not only grief she's feeling. When she saw Shard looming over Tack's body, without any remorse, guilt, or even love, all she felt was fury. She growled as her body slowly transformed. Getting on all fours, her hands became claws, her head grew indigo horns and angel-like wings sprouted from her back. In an instant, what was once a troll is now a great silvery blue and teal dragon with a deep scar on her left chest where her heart stood.

"YOU MONSTER!" She roared, leaping towards Shard with a raised claw and slashes his face.

Shard yelled in agony, covering his face as he felt the warm blood gushing to his hands, turning it red.

Sora also yelled from the pain she feels in her face, the same location where Shard was scratched, yet no blood or opened wound was seen. She grunted as she saw a furious Shard glaring right back at her.

"How dare you attack me like a beast!"

"Nothing short of what you deserve," Sora said.

Shard scoffed and then chuckled cruelly. "How does it feel, Sora?" Sora became confused by his words as he continued on. "How does the pain feel? Does it hurt? Especially since we both share the same pain. Or does the pain of knowing that you are responsible for all that has happened in your home hurts more? After all, we are bonded in life and blood."

Sora took his words to heart and it's true. Whatever pain either of them gets, the other will receive the same, no matter where they are. If one of them was killed...well, you know the rest. She never thought during her youth that by saving a life would bring so much torment. By inducing a kind and sacrificial act would cost her people's freedom and possibly, her own soul.

"You're right, Shard," she admitted. "My actions had given you a gift in return, but your tainted heart poisoned the gift and you've squandered it! I intend to make things right!"

"Foolish girl, you know what would happen if you continue to attack me?" Shard taunted.

"If taking my life would mean putting an end to your reign and the misery of my people, then so be it!" Sora declared.

"Then accept your fate! I won't kill you, but these wounds you've given me...I'll return the pain a thousand times worse!" He yelled as he summons a dark violet beam at her.

Sora counterattacks by firing an ice beam and both attacks collided. It looks like both attacks are even but the power from these super attacks kept going up until it exploded. The explosion was so massive that it sends an injured Sora over the falls and disappeared into the crashing waters below.

After the smoke cleared up, Shard grunted and struggled to rise. He scanned the area and despite the scorched environment, Sora was nowhere to be seen. He walked to the edge and after feeling his beating heart, he immediately knew that Sora still lives and as of this moment, is being drifted by the river to unknown territory but far away from the Heartlands. He watched the horizon with a glare, knowing he'll meet her again. He remained collected when even the blood from his deep scar flowed over his eyes, turning his vision red.

"This isn't over, Sora. I promise you that!"

"Watch it! Shard wants her alive, you morons!" Tsume hollered. His men dragged the tied Rose Rebel to them as they waited for their leader to return.

"Alive, yes, but he didn't say unharmed. She's ours now!" One troll grinned as he watched the hooded rebel panting from the fight. She didn't receive major injuries besides scratches and bruises. In fact, she paid little attention to her wellbeing. Her mind was set upon Sora and the others, hoping they made it out. And if they did, then her job is done. All she can do is listen to her captors talking among themselves while taunting her.

"She could try all she wants, but it won't do any good."

"After all the trouble she caused us, it's time for us to have some fun."

"Please, I wouldn't bother with her," Tsume scoffed and crossed his arms while pacing around the Rose Rebel. "She's way beyond her age limit to be a breeder and despite her age, she did give us one heck of a hassle. Besides, her fate is to be decided only by Shard."

The Rose Rebel remained silent but suddenly, she caught glimpse of two familiar trolls hidden in the trees and recognized them from her band.

The oldest was a dark orange troll named Phoenix who acted as her second-in-command. The other was his younger brother, Storm, an azure troll with a rebellious nature. Those two watched the whole scene before them, horrified to know that their brave, noble leader is at the hands of these villains. Storm attempted to climb down the tree.

The Rose Rebel gasped once she realized what he was about to do. "No!" She shouted as she moved, only for her to fall down forward. Shard's men grabbed her and held her down. Storm was suddenly stopped by Phoenix when they heard her. Unbeknownst to the enemy whom they thought it was them she was speaking to, she was actually shouting to the brothers. "Don't come near me! Nobody is to come near me! In this world, there are more important things than my life! Resist it! Please resist it and get away from here!"

The brothers heard her yet hesitated to abandon her. Storm managed to see his leader pleading them to escape with a silent nod. With a heavy heart, he joined his brother and retreated into the forest undetected.

The Rose Rebel sighed in relief, knowing her friends are safe. A hard slap was delivered to her left cheek. Despite the pain, she remained defiant. "Keep your mouth shut or we'll rip your tongue out so no one will hear your cries!"

Suddenly, trees were knocked down as everyone turn to see Darkfang coming to them with an angry look on his face. His lips were smeared with blood, but what's new was the great burned scar over his right eye to his muzzle. His right eye was now white, blinded as a result and his mouth was missing a fang. Darkfang growled impatiently, digging his claws into the ground.

"That leader of yours, where is he?!" Darkfang snarled.

"He'll come," Tsume spoke calmly. "No need to bite our heads off."

"In case you haven't noticed, I have every reason to bite someone's head off! LOOK AT ME!"

"Like father, like son," one troll whispered to the next troll, the latter snickering in result. In an instant, the poor troll was lifted by the furious dragon, inches away from his deadly teeth.

"For someone so small, you sure have big mouths!" Darkfang huffed. The dangling troll whimpered at the scary beast before him. "Now tell me, how do you prefer your death: swift and painlessly by my appetite or the slow, agonizing one from my poison? Your choice!"

Fortunately for the would-be appetizer, Shard suddenly arrived, yet he was not pleased. His men were surprised to see the deep gashes on his face still bleeding yet he remained unfazed by them.

"Darkfang, drop him. It's not his time...yet."

The dragon snorted and dropped the troll who scurried away from him before joining the rest. "Took you long enough."

Tsume came to him and bowed. He was appalled to see his Lord's injury unattended. "My Lord, your face-"

"-is not of your business!" Shard snapped. "What are your reports?" He asked when he faced his men.

"The patrol we've stumbled upon seemed that they were not expecting us. Yet they still proved to be quite an annoyance. Once Darkfang eliminated most of them, they ran off with their hearts filled with fear."

"I see," Shard then faced Darkfang and wondered what gave him such injuries. "And Darkfang, how did you gain such scars?"

Darkfang was not pleased about this. "I had battled against one of those annoying Sage trolls with a cape!"

"You fought a Guardian? Was it the Black Swordsman?" Shard questioned.

"This troll I was fighting with clearly was strong and a pain!" He growled as he recalled his fight with Hakuro. If there's one thing he hated the most is a tiny troll managing to injure a powerful dragon as him. "He was a dirty, golden-haired pest. His attack burned my eye and took out my fang! He disappeared before I could finish him off. I hope the wound I've gave him when I chomped down his arm would let him bleed slowly and painfully to death. It'll be the least he deserves."

"But none of you had found any other Guardians or rebels?" Their leader asked. They all shook their heads. The dark purple troll growled.

"Sir, what about the dragon girl? Have you found her?" One troll asked.

"I have and she refused to come! I never expected her to retaliate, even after I killed off our brother."

The Rose Rebel softly gasped when she heard the news. Many questions dreadfully flooded her mind. 'Tack is dead? What about Sora? Has she escaped? Were their efforts have been in vain?'

He turned to his men. "I've lost her over the falls, but I know she lives! I want her returned to me! Send our hunters and find her! I don't care how long it takes or how far we have to go! Any hunter out there is to not return until she is found. And she better be alive!"

The men saluted and bowed before heading back to their fortress. Darkfang took off as well.

"How could you?"

Shard and the remaining men heard their prisoner who hasn't lifted her head since her capture. Tsume then came to Shard. "If I may be so bold, my Lord, it seems that we won't go completely empty handed. I have managed to present to you a small token." He motioned the men to push the Rose Rebel to the ground in front of Shard. The shrouded female rose up and glared at the Lord.

"You killed Tack? Your own brother?! How could you?" She angrily said, struggling to move from her binds.

"Ah, the Rose Rebel. I haven't realized that I was in the presence of such dignified being. It just astonishes me how you mysteriously appeared to this land, successfully pass the exam, earning the title of Guardian, and manages to create such trouble for me and my army with just only a small pack of nobodies," Shard toyed with her. "As for your previous question, how could I? He didn't support me. He was in my way, and I got rid of him. There's only one true thing he ever said to me: I did lose the right to call him brother long ago."

"Sora is gone and you'll never find her. She'll seek help and save us all!" She states with confidence.

He chuckled maliciously. "It won't matter even if she gets help from a thousand trolls." Shard then walked towards her. "One thing for sure, she'll come back and I'll be waiting. Now, let's shed some light on our famous Rose Rebel." He suddenly grabbed her hood and removed it, revealing a middle-aged troll with beautiful teal skin, piercing sky blue eyes, and her hair was the color of a glorious pink except for a silver streak on it. "Who ever thought that a troll in your prime would give us such irritating problems?" He grabs her chin, roughly lifting it up for her to face him. "Sooner or later, I'll have all tribes under my rule. Any hope left will just get crushed by our forces. All will fall and we will rise."

"You monster! It won't be easy!" The female troll growled and bit down Shard's hand hard. But Shard remained composed.

"You still have some spirit left?" Shard then with his free hand punch her away, releasing her grip. "Don't think I'll go easy on you just because you're a female. It's not my first time attacking a woman and it definitely won't be my last." He then coldly grabs her hair and slams her to the ground. "You won't die today, Rose, because starting now, your worst nightmare will become a reality!"

-Kibonaga-sa, Central Heartlands-

After helping the warriors of Led fight off Shard's men, Kiba, Arashi, and Floyd began their trek back to their home. Luckily, they did not suffer heavy injuries, only a few scratches or bruises, nothing they could not handle. During the walk, all they could think about is whether or not Sora and the others escaped. They also dread if they're even...alive. Floyd kept looking back to the wood where they were last seen.

"Do you think they made it?" Floyd asked.

"Hey, if I know your mother, and I should since we're cousins, they won't quit until they made sure Sora and Tack are safe. Have faith," Gin assured, though deep down, he worries for his children's safety.

"I was surprised to see to see only you two when you came," Arashi commented. "Where's the rest of your band?"

"Don't worry. Phoenix is taking care of the rest. They'll be waiting for us at your home. And if Ryu says otherwise, well, I'm gonna give him a piece of my mind or my blade," Floyd vowed.

Gin chuckled. "I'm sure you would. But just let me handle him first. Don't want to make a scene that will embarrass him."

"Tickets to that, please," Arashi joked, trying to lighten the mood.

The men cheered up for a moment, but despite her efforts, the fear for their friend's wellbeing clouded their happiness. "I just hope they're safe," Gin softly said. Suddenly, they heard rustling next to them. Birds flew from the trees from where the sound originated. Floyd became alert. "What is it?

"Shh. Something is coming. Might be foe," Floyd whispered. "Stay where you are." He took a couple steps, his hand reaching for his sword. "Whoever you are, show yourself!"

In an instant, a figure appeared out of the bushes, his right arm holding to where his left arm should be. "All gone...Help...me." Lightning flashed, revealing his colors. Arashi recognized him immediately.

"Hakuro!" She cried, catching him before he could fall. "It's me, Arashi!"

"I found you. You're okay..." Hakuro weakly spoke.

Arashi examined him and gasped. His left arm is gone, leaving only a stub which was wrapped tightly by a piece of his clothes in order to stop the bleeding. Gin and Floyd ran to him, terrified of what has become of him and of the others.

"He's hurt," Floyd stated while examining his arm.

"What happened? Where are the others?" Gin asked worriedly.

"We've... been ambushed by Darkfang and Tsume..." Hakuro panted. "We fought them. Sora and Tack left. I don't know if...if..."

"Shh. Safe your strength, brother," Arashi consoled him. "You're here and you did what you could and more."

"We have to take him home before he bleeds to death," Gin said.

"You guys do that. I have to go back!" Floyd stated.

"But Floyd-" Gin tried calling him back.

"I can't stay here! She needs me!" But before Floyd could dash off, another figure appeared, looking down and exhausted. Floyd recognized Storm from the band. "Storm? What are you doing here?!"

"Floyd!" Storm spoke but stopped himself when he saw the others. He had some terrible news to share to them, having to do with what had occurred in the forest.

"What happened?" Floyd asked. Storm didn't answer but struggled to keep his emotions under control. He felt like he could choke. Floyd looked around, there was no sign of anyone else other than Gin, Arashi, Hakuro, and himself. "Where's Primrose? Sora and Tack?"

Storm grunted and with all his strength, he sadly spoke, "Sora isn't here." Everyone gasped at the news. Have they failed to get her out? "It's not that. We heard Shard saying she escaped. We didn't find her body, so I believe that is true." Gin, Arashi, and Hakuro felt relief by that, but Gin noticed he only said Sora's name, but not Tack's. Storm saw his face and feared of revealing more, but they all have the right to know. "Your plan to get her out was a success, but there were...casualties. Floyd, Gin, I'm afraid we have some grave news."

At that instant, behind Storm came Phoenix, but what horrified the group was what he is holding or in this case, whom he was holding. In his hands, he carried Tack's unmoving body. Phoenix's face showed sadness, guilt, and despair, but not as much as Gin's face. His son, murdered by one of his own. The wind blew, thunder boomed in the sky, and rain dropped into the area, blocking any sound. Storm broke the news of what has occurred including the discovery of Tack's body and Primrose's capture by Shard. When he finished, Floyd's eyes widened, tears threatened to fall, but no word left his mouth. He turned to see Gin holding Tack's body, crying out his tears that fell onto Tack, hopping he will be revived, but it is not to be. Floyd clenched his fist, closed his eyes, and let out an anguishing scream into the sky, louder than a lion's roar and matching a thunder's clap. Despite Sora's survival, the losses were severe that it left them helpless and all they could do is mourn for the dead, hope for Sora and Primrose's safety, and vow that Shard will pay for all suffering he bestowed onto their family.
