I don't own Harry Potter or any of the series that may from time to time show up here. I apologize in advance if I use any OC's created by other fan fiction writers.
This story is my own, though it will be based on the crapilogue. The story begins with Harry being called into Shacklebolt's office and being sent on holiday.
The story takes the air date of Stargate SG-1 Secrets as Bane (21/08) as the day of the mission. I reversed the order of stories of Bane and Secrets for the purpose of my fan fiction.
In searching for an appropriate setting for the HQ of Potter Inc in the USA, I chose a 100 acre site in Cedar County near Stockton near St Louis. I hasten to add that I do not own the property, nor do I know the people who do an d I have never been there. I am merely using the location for the purposes of this fan fiction.
O'Neill and Carter were due in Washington DC on Monday 21st September 1988 for a medal ceremony. A ceremony to be presided over by the Chief of the Joint Staff, no less. Jack O'Neill wanted the medal made out to Jack O'Neill. Neither he nor General Hammond were having any luck in persuading the Airforce to do that. Johnathan Jon O'Neill was getting a medal in his name, whether he wanted it or not.
Daniel and Tealc were heading off to Abydos, because Kasuf, Sha're's father, said he had news of her. Undomesticated equines, as Teal'c would say, couldn't stop Daniel from going. Jack hoped he'd have good news. Jack would rather be going to Abydos with Daniel, rather than receive a medal that he wouldn't be getting without Daniel and Teal'c doing what they had. Jack was pleased that Captain Carter was with him. He felt a promotion was more her due than a medal. Yes, the medal was the Air Medal and Daniel and Teal'c were eligible for it. Neither could actually receive it, of course. Doctor Daniel Jackson was the nutcase archaeologist who had proposed that the pyramids were landing pads for alien spaceships and Teal'c was an alien. Daniel had been right and awarding him a medal might make others think that and that could not happen.
Jack and Sam had checked into their room on Friday evening. Apparently, the hotel employed a bunch of idiots who assumed Sam was male. The only good thing was there two large single beds in the room. Jack and Sam were going to be shown off to the great and the good; some of whom knew that they weren't getting medals for anything connected to deep space telemetry. Jack hated that cover story. Anyone who knew him, knew he was no desk jockey. They'd know that his job was a front. They just wouldn't know what for.
Jack and Sam ate in the hotel restaurant in full dress uniforms. They drew comments, naturally. The hotel couldn't do enough for them. They had made an assumption that had turned out to be wrong and threw in all sorts of freebies – not really free, because they were getting airforce payment for premium service. They couldn't free a room for Sam, though. Jack breathed a sigh of relief.
The meet and greet Jack and Sam attended afterwards in one of the bases in DC also had press in attendance. Jack danced with Sam. Sam's father, General Jacob Carter, cut in.
"Sam, nice to see you here. I've called in a few favours, after all, it's not like I'm going to be able to cash any in where I'm going. I've got you in NASA's astronaut training, just like you always wanted."
"You can't die, dad," Sam almost wailed.
"I'll be sure to tell Him, when I see Him that my daughter says I cannot die," Jacob said.
"Have you told Mark?" Sam asked him.
"No, I haven't. We haven't spoken since your mother died. He's never forgiven me." Jacob Carter sounded sad.
"You should go see him, whilst you can," Sam said, fighting back the tears she knew she was about to shed.
"Since you're the one asking, I'll go see him, next week," Jacob conceded.
Whilst Sam was talking with her father, Jack went in search of a drink and found some good Irish Whisky. He was just taking his first sip, when a journalist approached him.
"Hello Colonel, my name is Armin Selig and I'd like to meet with you in a more secure location away from prying eyes to talk to you about a secret program being run out of Cheyenne Mountain. Stargate Command."
"Mr Selig, I've no idea what you're talking about. Me, I'm the guy whose son shot himself using my gun. I'm just heading up security for Deep Space telemetry, waiting 'til my time is up and I can be retired. I'm the embarrassment."
"The embarrassment who is getting the Air Medal. Last I heard, they weren't handing that out to washed up bums."
"Who do you work for Mr Selig?" Jack asked. If this guy were JAG. Jack was screwed. There was a protocol to be followed, when someone approached you claiming knowledge of a secret project.
"Here's the time and place for our meeting tomorrow," Selig said. He handed Jack a card with details on the back. Jack contacted Hammond and told him what had been said. Hammond told Jack that he'd be in touch on the morrow. Jack checked his watch. It would still be Friday in Colorado.
Jack went back into the main Hall and found Sam. They moved around the room, meeting everybody there. About an hour later and Sam and Jack were back in their room. Sam had collapsed into Jack's arms. She was in no condition to be told about the security breach back at Stargate Command. She was in a condition to be comforted. So Jack, remembering Harry's words to him, comforted Sam. He wondered what the first thing Sam would say to him, when they woke up naked together.
Sam awoke. She was aware she was naked and not alone in bed. What she said threw Jack. He had not expected what she'd asked.
"Was I as good as her? The other me," Sam had asked. She got up and walked to the bathroom to shower. Jack got an eyeful watching her walk. She may not have been going for the seductive walk, but Jack was seduced. He waited for her to start showering and then got out of bed and walked to join her.
"The other you had a lot more experience than you," Jack said. This shower experience ended in a lot different a way to the one in her days at the academy when some jock had tried to show her what a man he was. They'd found him still convulsed on the floor of the shower holding his broken manhood.
Jack did his best to make the other bed look slept in for room service. The pair had different itineraries that morning. Hammond approved Jack's meeting with Mr Selig that afternoon. Selig was already there. He had drinks already ordered.
"Thank you for coming, Colonel."
"You didn't really give me much choice, did you?"
"In the story I plan to write, you'll be a hero."
"Make sure you spell my name with two 'L's. There's another O'Neil with one 'L', but he doesn't have my sense of humour."
"Cute, Colonel. Very cute. I know there is a device known as the Stargate through which your team and others explore the Universe. Your team is the elite military unit seeking military devices and other technology that you bring back to Earth."
"Where did you get the information that you are planning to use?"
"That I can't say," Selig answered.
"Why are you doing this?" Jack asked.
"People deserve to know the truth," Selig replied with full moral superiority.
"The truth. You couldn't handle the truth. I've done plenty of things to ensure you keep on enjoying the freedoms you enjoy. You do not need to know. You publish your story. What do you hope to accomplish?"
"People deserve to know the truth."
"So you said. I'll tell you. A section will do what they do every time some aspect of military spending is discovered, assuming anyone believes what you're going to write. They will declare it to be a waste of money that would be better spent on tackling poverty. Your basic socialistic communistic crap about cradle to the grave duty of government is the staple of another chunk of our people. How do you know you're not spending enough on your military? When the enemy is holding a victory parade down Fifth Avenue. By then it's too late to do anything about it."
"I have the story. I only wanted to meet you."
"You are an idiot. Had you printed the story, it would be out there. You're just messing around. I very much doubt anyone who leaked all this fantastical information to you did it so you could make me the hero. They'll see you with me, decide they don't know what you told me and silence you. Drop your fake story and live."
"Are you threatening me?"
"Nope. Not me. This is not a Pulitzer for you. This story is a death sentence. For you."
"I shall talk the matter over with my editor. Meet with me tomorrow at 9am outside the capitol plaza." Mr Selig made a hasty exit. He left a card on the table. Its rear contained two names. Jack passed on the names as soon as he was able to Hammond. Hammond despatched teams SG-4 and SG-5 respectively. The two men named were found dead. Hammond did not pass that information back to O'Neill.
Saturday evening was another function that Jack and Sam had to attend. The two danced together and hobnobbed with the nations military brass. They made it back to their room before passionately embracing. A night spent in hot passion as both made their feelings for the other clear to see.
Jack made the 9am meeting. Unfortunately, M Selig did not. An unmarked black van impacted the driver's side of the car he was driving, killing the man instantly. There were far too many unmarked black vans in DC for Jack's taste belonging to a plethora of secret agencies. Jack had no idea which of them Mr Selig had well and truly pissed off.
The medal ceremony was called off at that point. Hammond presented the pair with the medals and gave them permission to go to Abydos. Jack and Sam prepared to go through the Stargate. Jack hoped Daniel had received good news. He deserved some.
Jack found it odd not to be greeted by Skaara after he arrived on Abydos. He wasn't prepared for the shock of his absence. The young man had taken the place of Charlie. Now, like Charlie he'd been taken from him.
The situation on Abydos was clear as mud. Apophis and Amanuet(Sha're) had shown up on Abydos for Amanuet to have Apophis' new host, a harcesis kid named Shifa. According to Teal'c a harcesis was bad news as it contained all the memories of the Gou'ald and all the Gou'ald would want to kill it and Apophis. Now, Jack could get behind the killing of Apophis, but not an innocent child. Heru'ur had shown up. Landing his starship on the local pyramid (Daniel had photos), Heru'ur made leaving Abydos, impossible.
Daniel had delivered the child. Was there no end to the man's accomplishments? He'd persuaded Apophis and Amanuet that Heru-ur had the child and Heru-ur that Apophis and Amanuet had left with the child. Heru-ur had left the planet after Jack threw a knife through his personal forceshield. Jack remarked that he wanted his knife back.
Jack and Sam spent their nights together. Teal'c raised an eyebrow and Daniel smirked. All four knew what was happening was breaking regulations. Neither Jack nor Sam was willing to donate sperm or eggs, despite the financial inducement. They promised not to use the donations without permission, did these organisations. However, since most of them were Black Ops, neither believed the promises. Kasuf officiated at Jack and Sam's marriage. Apparently living in sin carried severe divine penalties and Kasuf felt Abydos had suffered from enough of those. He also told the team that Shifa would stay on Abydos. Teal'c looked relieved.
On returning to Earth, Sam revealed to General Hammond that she knew where the Tok'ra were. General Hammond noted how close Jack and Sam were. They were well inside the other's personal space. Though neither Jack nor Sam knew, George Hammond already knew how close the pair really were. He'd had since 1969 to work out how he would protect them. There was no doubt that they needed protecting. He only hoped Sam was using some. For now they needed some time apart. He had the rest of SG-1 brief SG-2 and SG-3 about the mission, whilst Jack took some of his accumulated leave. The airforce refused to pay him for the days, Jack steadfastly refused to take them. Had George been paying more attention to Jack's sudden willingness to take holiday and not on their obvious relationship, he would have phrased his order differently. Telling Jack to take a few days attending to duties elsewhere was not the way the order should have been phrased.
Jack remembered the Quantum Mirror. Hammond had ordered it be taken to Area 51 and disposed of, after they had finished dealing with the Alternate Samantha Carter who had been married to Jack O'Neill and got help from the Asgard in her dimension. Hammond had not taken into account Daniel Jackson. They'd only learnt that Apophis was on his way, because they had the Mirror and Daniel had felt that the Mirror would be of more help to them in the future. Daniel had fashioned a reasonable facsimile of the Mirror and the real one had been sent to Area 52 for storage. Jack would head over to Area 52 and go through the Mirror to a place where hopefully he did not exist, currently, and find Harry Potter and ask him to do the mind thingy again.
Jack hopped onto a transport and flew to Area 52. He made his way to storage and set the Mirror up. He flipped through several dimensions where Sam was on duty. Each one looked like they wanted him to come through. Jack couldn't afford the distraction. He found one in which the Mirror was also in storage and his gut said he would not be suffering from entropic cascade failure. He was in full military BDU. He did not want to get shot. Jack was soon captured and taken to the commandant's outer office. He was soon shown in. Jack was staring at the back of a very young Commandant who was dressed in the height of fashion for the upper class a century ago. He got the shock of his life when the young nobleman turned to face him. It was unmistakeably Harry James Potter.
"Harry," Jack managed to croak out.
"Do have a seat, Colonel O'Neill," Harry said. Jack sat down. "Let's find out the major point of divergence. Does the British Empire still exist in your dimension?"
"No. It's gone. Look I don't want to sound rude and impatient, but I am worried about Entropic Cascade failure and somewhat surprised to see a magical in charge given what you told me in mine."
"The British Empire still exists here. I surmise you are here because I didn't tell you something. Look around you. Here we are in a drab utilitarian office. It's my lot in life. What can you tell me about the other me?"
"He's an orphan, a trainee Auror and was overjoyed to find the Hammond's grandchildren Tessa and Kayla are cousins and magical. He's also the magical uncle of Mark Carter's kids David and Lisa who are also magical."
"Oh I have quite the family. Brigadier General Hammond is a relative of mine and I see his grandkids quite a lot. Brigadier General Jacob Carter would have been pleased as punch to have magical grandchildren. He died last month. Cancer. His daughter Doctor Samantha Carter is quite cut up about it. He and Mark were estranged. David and Lisa we didn't know about, so thank you. Had we known, he'd have been eligible for the cure. I can submit a case for temporal readjustment."
"What about me?"
"You died four years ago from self-inflicted gunshot wounds."
"My son Charlie?"
"He was present and has not been right since. I know all about the case. I investigated it. I got the job because you were 'just a squib'. I don't really remember your grandfather Tyrus that well."
"You did some mind thingy and then told me there was nothing."
"You suspect I kept something from you. I remember the case had ties into both the civil and magical authorities in British America. We passed it off as a secessionist movement. It was a major scandal at the time. This posting was and is my reward. I'll do the mental thingy for you and see what there is."
Harry looked through Jack's memories. It was the same as what he'd investigated, with the exception that Charlie had died in Jack's dimension. The same Roswell Grey name of Loki in Jack's childhood. The same wizards and NID team. The same Senator Kinsey, he'd been present. That was a change. He hadn't been in this dimension. Harry remembered how high up it had gone in MACUSA. The then President. He'd been defeated in 1996 and died soon after. For all Harry knew the man was still in his job in MACUSA where this Jack O'Neill was from. Ah, the certainty that if O'Neill learnt Kinsey had been involved, he'd go after the man. That would certainly cause trouble. It had here. Harry had needed all the influence his family could muster to survive the shit storm that had arisen. Harry hadn't left people alive. Hence his current position.
"What I can tell you is that during your childhood you were experimented on by a Roswell Grey, name of Loki."
"I'll be having words with Thor, Supreme Commander of the Asgard, next time I see him."
"You know of the Asgard?" Harry asked, impressed.
"Yes, I know him. Does this change things?" Jack asked, not fully understanding its importance.
"That potentially makes you the most important man on the planet, not to give your ego a boost," Harry deadpanned.
"So, no pressure then?" Jack said. Both laughed.
"I am not going to tell you what happened with Charlie. Your temperament indicates that you'd do something violent to all of those involved, especially to the one who ordered the execution/murder. Who could have given an order that my duplicate would have obeyed?"
"Your cousin George," Jack suggested.
"By now, the rest of my family will have learnt of your presence and will wish to see you. Family meals are mandatory and you'll be an honoured guest."
"I'd be delighted to attend. With no other me here, I don't have to worry about entropic cascade failure," Jack responded.
"If you get harangued by my Aunt, you may wish you were suffering from it," Harry laughed.
Meanwhile, back on Jack's Earth, Harry was developing his case. He had told Kingsley about the problem. He'd owled Hermione about the problem. Not giving her the details, just asking about MACUSA, its presidents and its rules of evidence, how they differed from magical Britain and any special rules when dealing with muggles and muggle authorities.e'd owled Hermione with He
Kingsley was impressed that Harry was taking a level-headed approach. He'd expected the man to have told Jack O'Neill everything and then the hippogriff dung really would have hit ground very fast. He'd had dealings with Bumfree when he'd studied over with MACUSA. Man reported directly to the MACUSA president as he liked to tell him every five minutes. He was never without his shadows, a Clarence P Harding and Teddy M Harlane. They were amongst the best duellists that Kingsley had ever seen. They were the three wizards, Kingsley was sure of it. If that were the case, MACUSA President Macington was involved up to his slimy neck. Kingsley wouldn't be reaching for the magical equivalent of the red phone to call up MACUSA's President.
MACUSA shared its muggle counterpart's restriction on the President serving two full terms, Macington was trying to get the rules changed to allow him an unlimited number of terms.
Kingsley decided that this case would serve as Harry's international case and assigned Neville Longbottom and Daphne Greengrass as his assistants.
Harry heard back from Hermione. She'd sent him a list of books and told him that she was too busy to conduct HIS research for him. Harry sent an owl with thanks for her efforts and wishing her the best for her year as Head Girl and commiserated with her that her Head Boy was Draco Malfoy.
Harry picked up the books. He was gobsmacked to discover that an Imelda Potter had been President of MACUSA from 1830 -1880. She had a biography that said she was the daughter of Abraham Potter, one of the 12, who'd fathered her very late in life. She'd given birth to a son in 1880, one Tyrus O'Neill. She'd only signed over her powers to her Vice as she went into labor. She was supposed to get them back after she'd given birth, but the Vice enjoyed being President too much. Well there was a common theme, a Potter getting screwed over by the system.
Harry explained the case to Neville and Daphne and the heads up he'd received from Hermione. Harry shared what Kingsley had said. Daphne said they needed to depose the four men and file the necessary paperwork for a civil trial. The three headed over to the States towards the end of September. Harry found a message asking him to meet with Brigadier General Hammond at his earliest convenience. Harry left Daphne and Neville to do the depositions and file the paperwork.
Harry found Cousin George just finishing up sending a team out through the Stargate. Harry was ushered into the office, by Walter. Walter brought him a nice cup of tea.
"Harry, good of you to come."
"Thank you, cousin George for the invite. I'm over here to file the case against the four men on our side of the fence. I can tell you that the leader of the 9-man NID team was Captain Gerald D Maguire." Harry sipped his tea. Earl Grey. His favourite.
"It's about Jack that I want to talk to you. He's vanished. I ordered him to attend to other matters and he did. This morning he checked into Area 52 and went through a Quantum Mirror I had ordered destroyed into another dimension. My twin granddaughters spent some time with the Carter children and were most put out that you gave those two a book they could use to ask you questions. My twins want one."
"I thought they might. I'll send one over. Anything I should know about this Quantum Mirror?"
"I'll have Captain Carter brief you."
"Thank you, cousin George. How is she?"
"Like she's been given a good seeing to," George responded.
"Amazing the sex toys they can get these days," Harry shrugged.
An airman escorted Harry to Sam's lab and he stood outside the door. He knocked on the door and was invited in.
"Captain Carter, good to see you again. Cousin George told me you'd brief me about anything I should know about a certain Mirror."
"Jack wouldn't," Sam said.
"Jack?" Harry enquired.
"Oh, the Colonel's been trying to get the three of us to call him Jack rather than Colonel these past couple of years. I'm the last one to succumb. The biggest issue you'll have is cascade entropic failure." Sam was used to seeing the blank look on her Colonel's face, so was not surprised to see Harry respond likewise. "If there's another you there, you'll start to disintegrate in two days."
"So two days to find Jack and retrieve him." Harry was dressed in formal wear. What passed for formal wear for wizards, at any rate. Harry showed up at Area 52 about 4 hours after Jack O'Neill had. He was escorted to storage. The Special Forces began to erect a pair of machine gun posts. Harry waved good bye as he touched the Mirror and appeared on the other side. He retraced his steps, since the complex was identical, to the commandant's office. He looked at the name on the door. Harry J Potter. So this was his alternate self's job and confirmed his 48 hour window. He had entered and was looking around when a Sergeant poked his head around the door.
"I thought you were heading out with a guest to your family dinner party."
"I was. Then I remembered I had something I needed to finish," Harry said. It was a fair bet that this dimension's Harry Potter had work that needed finishing.
"Yes. The Farside acquisition. Don't worry it will be finished and on your desk for when you return."
"Thank you. Make sure everyone who works on it, puts their name on the document. I have a sneaky suspicion that I'm not going to return from one of these dinner parties, one of these days."
The sergeant chuckled. "That must be why you use public transport, when you attend."
"Not so loud!" Harry said. The sergeant left, laughing.
Harry locked the room, using the key rather than a spell. "Potter House-Elf."
"I be Dropsy."
"Transportation to my room to get ready for a Potter family dinner, if you please."
Dropsy grabbed his hand and the next moment Harry's stomach felt like it was doing somersaults as he arrived in a typical Gryffindor room, all red and gold and it was over the top, Harry felt. Harry decided to stay as he was attired. It wasn't that his double wouldn't mind him borrowing some clothes, it was Harry's strict sense of propriety. There was a map of the complex that made up Potter Inc and the dozen branches of the family that lived here. It was a gated community.
Harry studied the map and then went downstairs. He ran into his parents, not quite literally.
"Harry, is that what you're wearing?" James Potter demanded.
"Yes, father it is. My protest at this silly meeting. Where are my sibs?" Harry was winging it. Not successfully since both James and Lily had their wands out.
"The girls are at school and can't attend," Lily said.
"A school we own. Excuses, excuses." James laughed. The wands were put away. "There is somebody here whom you will want to spend time with." In walked Luna Lovegood. She almost froze on seeing Harry.
"Perhaps, we can talk in the library?" Harry suggested. Luna nodded and set off, Harry following. The library was at the far end of the house, almost five minutes away.
"You have come from very far away, Harry," Luna said.
"How are the nargles and wrackspurts today?"
"There are none about you, Lord Potter." There that clinched it, Luna knew who he was. The one thing he wouldn't be was Lord here. "You will succeed here and be given help," Luna said.
"It will be fun, Luna. Who are you here?"
"I am the fiancée of Harry James Potter," Luna said, with a straight face. "Other than that, I am who I have always been."
"Of course, I wouldn't have it any other way, friend Luna."
"Nor I. The Harry here has not yet lost his nargles and wrackspurts."
"I could stay and send him back."
"No," Luna said, sharply. "I'll have a seat far from the top table, you'll sit with me."
"Sounds good. Now let's go and face the arrival of the other me and guest."
"You think they'll have arrived?" Luna asked quizzically.
"I'm four hours behind them. They should be here. About now."
"You're right about the journey time, I'll give you that. Let's go," Luna said. Harry and Luna arrived back in the atrium to James interrogating Harry about Jack, when he was already in the Library. Lily turned to Luna and Harry and a question died upon her lips.
Harry turned to face the Harry with Luna.
"Who are you?" Harry asked.
"That's got to be the dimmest question anyone has ever asked me," Harry laughed. Luna laughed. "I hear there's a dinner party today. I thought I'd come along. I've a case to present to MACUSA and I need Jack there to make it."
"I can stay here, Harry, free from hurt," Jack said.
"How's that going to work, when you show up at your grieving widow's four years after dying? I will need to speak with her and her son. I need to know what they remember. It's all relevant for my case."
"Since you are an alternate me, what's your rush? Sure you can speak with them, tomorrow. You won't learn anything. The widow said the note our Jack left saying he was worried about them leaving him was news to her."
"Just what is going on here?" James demanded to know.
"I've 48 hours to retrieve Jack here and return to my dimension or I start dissolving as my cells break down. I am quite looking forward to a dinner party with adult Potters. If I were to host a party for adult Potters in my dimension, I'd be dining alone."
"You must come to the party," James said. "There's someone I want you to meet."
"We'll provide you with some clothes," Lily said.
"I'll go as I am." Harry was set.
Come 8pm, Harry was sat next to Luna on a nondescript table in the main hall. Lord Charlus had just invited everyone to tuck in. It was a many courses meal. The type Harry hated. It reminded him of Ministry dos. He'd much rather be out in the field. He and Luna chatted. He looked up to see that Jack was seated next to Harry's Aunt and was maybe getting in a half-syllable every now and then.
The meal eventually ended and Lord Charlus rose to speak.
"My fellow Potters and guests, we are blessed tonight by a one who has travelled from another dimension, who seeks justice for a murder committed in his dimension. His name is Colonel Jack O'Neill, a no-maj."
Harry's Aunt rose, "A no-maj, here. That will not do at all. "Contempt dripped from her tone.
Harry cast sonorous on himself. He saw Luna smiling up at him. Harry felt confidence surge through him. He pushed the cape off his head, revealing that he could have been Harry's twin brother.
"I thought we were better than the Weasleys." That caused a hiss to echo around the Hall. The Weasleys were obviously not well thought of, here. "We leave none behind – that's our family motto. Colonel Jack O'Neill is not a no-maj, he's a squib."
"That's no better," Harry's Aunt interrupted. "Who do you think you are?"
"I command your silence. I am Henry James Black, Potter by birth and Black by blood adoption."
"Who would do a blood adoption on you?" this dimension's Sirius Black growled.
"You did," Harry said, simply. That caused the Hall to erupt in laughter. Sirius took the rebuke in good humour and said, "I would have too, had James, here, allowed it." Lord Charlus looked interested in that statement.
"Colonel Jack O'Neill is the grandson of Tyrus O'Neill, a noted wizard." No-one responded. "Tyrus O'Neill was the son born very late in life to Imelda Potter. I trust you know who she was." The Potters assembled were looking interested, for the first time. "I am here to retrieve Colonel O'Neill as he is to appear at a trial held before MACUSA's Presidential Court. I have to speak with Charlie in this dimension to see what he remembers and also because I think he's a wizard." That got them going.
Lord Charlus rose again. "Settle down, everyone. This evening's festivities are concluded." He sat down and watched everyone leave. He saw the other dimension Harry allow this dimension's Harry's Aunt to speak again. He'd been sorely tempted to silence her, over the years, in a similar fashion. He would certainly be speaking with the other Harry on the morrow.
A/N
A note to remind myself of the central plot of this story
The memory changes whilst he'd been in the hands of the NID had been performed by a wizard named Howard N Bumfree who'd had a partner, who had not been identified. Bumfree had cast the Imperius on Charlie to cause him to blow his brains out. Harry knew that the NID Operations leader had been a Gerald D Maguire, a Captain who'd had a personal beef with O'Neill. There had been 9 members of the NID team, with two outside in the van and three wizards. Out of the twelve people present, Harry could only identify two. Obviously Jack and Charlie had been there as victims, but Harry did not know from what he'd seen whether Jack's wife Sara had been present. Her memory had been modified, but she'd clearly had an imperative to leave Jack. It was as though the NID had wanted Jack to be suicidal and alone for that mission he'd done with a nuclear warhead. That meant they already knew things about the 'Gate'; information that had not been shared with those unlocking its secrets before the mission.
