LAST TIME:

I looked up and saw a Trident floating above my head.

I had been claimed.

"It is determined," Chiron announced. All around me, campers started kneeling, even the Ares cabin, though they didn't look happy about it.

"Poseidon," said Chiron. "Earth-shaker, Storm-bringer, Father of Horses. Hail, Perseus Jackson, Son of the Sea God."

Ch. 8 I am given a Quest

The very next morning, I was moved to Cabin three: The Poseidon cabin. It was much better, spacious and cleaner than the Hermes cabin. Also, I was the only occupant so, it ensured me complete privacy. I decided to take residence in the Cabin-Counsellor room instead of outside on the bunk beds regardless of the fact that I was going to be the sole occupant of the cabin. It was a special room provided exclusively for each cabin counsellor in their cabin which acted like a private bedroom and a study for them with a private ensuite bathroom attached to it.

The room was spacious and had a wardrobe; a desk; a nice comfortable office chair (with wheels and all); a queen sized bed which was way more comfortable and springy than the bunk beds outside; A mini-fridge which was currently empty; a small book-shelf which had a few books already like the camp's rule book, the Iliad, books written in ancient Greek about monsters, mythology etc. Most importantly it had a small password protected safe-box. I placed my hand on it and it glowed and opened. It was the size of a cupboard from inside. An expansion charm then.

That was when I noticed a thin book with a sea green-cover and a trident on it lying in the cupboard-safe box and curiously opened it. The book was old. Very old and written in an language I couldn't recognize but could somehow read it perfectly like ancient Greek or English.

#That book is written in Atlantean language... The language of the sea. I don't think that you would have found such a book anywhere. That is Poseidon's handwriting actually. Quiet clever of him to write it in Atlantean instead of ancient Greek. Only the children of the sea can read Atlantean. See what is it about.#

I read the preface and came to know that the book was written by my father on the possible powers of a demigod child of Poseidon and how to utilize them.

'Whoa. This is gold. Does every god have a book written like this for their demigod kids?' I asked Alexander.

#I... am not sure Percy, but most likely no. I don't think any other god has written a book for their demigod children. Another proof that Poseidon really-really cares for his children a lot. What you have Percy is, as you said, pure gold. Many demigods would kill to find a book that gives proper details on their powers and instructs them on how to use them. Athena would perhaps be the only other goddess who may have written about the powers her kids get from her. But, that's neither here nor there as the powers of the children of Athena are only mind and body based in nature unlike your father who has control over the element of water and other things.#

"Wow." I breathed. My dad really cared a lot about his children.

'Hey Alexander.'

#Yes Percy?#

'I have been claimed.' I stated

#I know. So?#

'You promised that you would tell me about the divine war and my role in the survival of the world that you have been anticipating and haven't told me yet.'

#Ah... yes. I have promised, haven't I? Okay... Sit down.# I took a seat on the office chair that was in the room as he told me. #Alright. There was a prophecy given by the oracle of Delphi after the World War 2. A great Prophecy to be exact. You remember what a great prophecy is?#

'A prophecy which affects the whole world by its outcome. A prophecy whose outcome is shrouded to the fates themselves.' I replied.

#Correct. So, the great prophecy was made by the oracle of Delphi after the World War II. It went like this:# Alexander said before he began reciting the prophecy.

#A half-blood of the eldest gods

Shall reach sixteen against all odds

And see the world in endless sleep

The hero's soul, cursed blade shall reap

A single choice shall end his days

Olympus to preserve or raze#

'What?' I questioned. The prophecy sounded ominous. 'It means I am going to die in the end, isn't it?'

#No. It never states that you will be the one whose soul shall get reaped. It says a hero's soul. It can mean any demigod on Earth. If it would have been the half-blood's soul cursed blade shall reap, it would have referred to the child of the big three as the first line is: A half blood of the eldest gods. But, it was said hero. It could refer to any demigod.#

'O...K.' I hesitantly replied and Alexander sighed.

#Percy, what have I told you about prophecies?#

'Discern whatever you can from it and then leave it to be. You won't know what the rest is about till the events come to pass. Trying to control a prophecy and influence its events purposefully only worsens it.'

#Yes. So, don't worry about it. What is coming will come and we will meet it when it does. I will be with you all the way Percy. I promise.#

'Thank you.' I sincerely replied, 'but I have read that quote somewhere.' I added as an after thought. Stupid ADHD.

#It was said by Hagrid in the Goblet of fire book.#

'Ah yes. Correct.'

We sat in silence for a moment.

'Alexander, you have anticipated that I will be the center of a divine war, correct?'

#...Yes.#

'So, who's my enemy?'

#I am not sure Percy. I suspect that it is either the Titans or the Giants... most likely the Titans. But, it is speculation. I am not sure myself and don't have any proof.#

I found myself paling a bit. Titans or Giants? Okay... I had thought them as a possibility, a large possibility infact. But, Alexander confirming my fears was still a bit scary for me.

#Percy. Don't. Worry. I am with you. Don't worry about the prophecy or the war. It will do you no good. What will happen will happen. Like you were born regardless of the oath that your father took to prevent the great prophecy.#

'I thought it was because the children of big three caused the World war 2 and they were too powerful.'

#Yes... that was one of the reasons but what compelled them to do it was the prophecy Percy#

'Okay. Thank you Alexander.'

#Anytime Percy.#

The following fortnight since the fateful night that I had been claimed were not good for me as a member of the camp. The other campers steered clear of me as much as possible. Some avoided me like plague while many were scared of me due to my display of skill.

The hellhound attack had put everyone on edge. It sent a message that nothing would stop monsters from trying to kill me. They would even invade a camp that had always been considered safe haven for demigods to do it.

Cabin eleven was too nervous to have sword class with me after what I'd done to the Ares folks in the woods and after my spar with Luke, so my lessons with Luke became one-on-one. Not that he taught me anything new, but it was good practicing with someone who was not Alexander. I also had started exercising on my own in the camp. I used to run and do my exercises everyday in the arena in the morning. I knew many campers, primarily girls, were spying on me while I exercised but, I said nothing about it neither did I bother to catch them.

Annabeth still taught me Greek in the mornings, but she seemed distracted. Every time I said something, she scowled at me, as if I'd just poked her between the eyes. I didn't know if she was seriously thinking something up or if she was pissed at me for pointing out her mistakes in the plan for the capture of the flag and hurting her pride.

Even Clarisse kept her distance, though her venomous looks made it clear she wanted to kill me for breaking her magic spear. Though it might also be due to the fact that I kicked her ass in combat with little effort.

I was miserable at the camp because of loneliness, and sometimes I just wanted to go home. I could train with Alexander even there if I wanted to. I was skilled enough to survive monster attacks in the real world. The only reason I had not done it was because of Aunt Hestia. She was the only person who mattered to me at the camp right now.

I couldn't leave her to be alone. She was the one who talked to me everyday and the talks with were the only part I liked about the camp. Rest everything that happened at the camp could be done with Alexander too anywhere in the world. The camp was not challenging me at all. The lava wall? I could scale it in seconds. Sword fighting? No one posed a challenge to me except for perhaps Luke when I didn't enhance myself. Archery? I didn't even take that class. Ancient Greek class? Alexander was a much preferable and better teacher than Annabeth Chase and Chiron never taught that class unless there was no one else to take it. Also, Annabeth never taught me anything that I didn't already know.

If I hadn't promised Hestia that I would talk with her everyday possible, I would have left for home. Seriously. Alexander and Hestia, both told me that they will come around and I shouldn't pay attention to the whispering that they did.

On another note, the fight between Zeus and Poseidon was worsening. My father had already made preparations for a war if things got out of hand. Alexander was expecting me to receive a quest soon. A week before the solstice at the latest infact. So, I waited.

I had a dream. A demigod dream.

I was running along the beach in a storm. This time, there was a city behind me. Not New York. The sprawl was different: buildings spread farther apart, palm trees and low hills in the distance.

About a hundred yards down the surf, two men were fighting. They looked like TV wrestlers, muscular, with beards and long hair. Both wore flowing Greek tunics, one trimmed in blue, the other in green.

My dad and Zeus.

They grappled with each other, wrestled, kicked and head-butted, and every time they connected, lightning flashed, the sky grew darker, and the wind rose. I had to stop them. But the harder I ran, the more the wind blew me back, until I was running in place, my heels digging uselessly in the sand.

Over the roar of the storm, I could hear Zeus yelling at my father, "Give it back! Give it back!" Like a kindergartner fighting over a toy. The waves got bigger, crashing into the beach, spraying me with salt.

I yelled, "Stop it! Stop fighting!"

The ground shook. Laughter came from somewhere under the earth, and a voice so deep and evil it turned my blood to ice. "Come down, little hero, the voice crooned. Come down!"

Suddenly there was a flash of light and I woke up.

#Percy! Are you all right?# Alexander asked breathlessly.

"Yeah." I said out loud as I rubbed my face and breathed deeply. I brought forth the storm-rider in its sword form, its familiar weight comforting me.

#Do you know what it was... in the end?#

'Poseidon and Zeus were fighting. The quarrel for the stolen Master bolt.'

#No, no. The voice at the end.#

'Hades?' I guessed.

#No... It was my father. Kronos. The king of Titans, the Titan of Time, Harvest and Justice also known as the crooked one.#

I nodded. We were correct.

'So Kronos is rising?'

#Yes.#

'Damn. And he's the one who stole the bolt?'

#He pulled the strings atleast. An agent of his... most likely a demigod who hates the gods, stole the bolt.#

'So, someone at the camp works for him.'

#Yes.#

'That's concerning.'

#It is. Now, go to sleep. It is 3 AM in the morning. We will talk tomorrow.#

In the morning, after I had finished my morning classes and self-training, I heard a knock at the door and the clopping sound of hooves outside the door of the Poseidon cabin. I was reading the book that my father had written. There were several new bits on information in it that I didn't know about. My father even wrote about Atlantis and under-sea politics in the book which even Alexander had no idea about.

I kept the book back securely in the vault before I went out and opened the door.

Grover was waiting outside looking worried. "Mr. D wants to see you." He said without preamble.

"Why?" I asked

"He wants to kill... I mean, I'd better let him tell you." He told nervously.

I nodded, having anticipated the summons for the quest they would send me on. I was sure no god(except for perhaps Hades and Zeus) would dare to kill me without reason since my father was Poseidon and everyone feared his wrath. Going near water and getting drowned was not an idea of fun for any god or goddess. And if the council had taken such a decision, Hestia would have warned me.

I started walking towards the Big house with Grover in tow.

Over Long Island Sound, the sky looked like ink soup coming to a boil. A hazy curtain of rain was coming in our direction. I asked Grover if we needed an umbrella. "No," he said. "It never rains here unless we want it to."

I pointed at the storm. "What the heck is that, then?" The storm had a high amount of godly influence in it... Zeus's influence.

He glanced uneasily at the sky. "It'll pass around us. Bad weather always does."

At the volleyball pit, the kids from Apollo's cabin were playing a morning game against the satyrs. Dionysus's twins were walking around in the strawberry fields, making the plants grow. Everybody was going about their normal business, but they looked tense. They kept their eyes on the storm.

Grover and I walked up to the front porch of the Big House. Dionysus sat at the pinochle table in his tiger-striped Hawaiian shirt with his Diet Coke, just as he had on my first day. Chiron sat across the table in his fake wheel-chair. They were playing against invisible opponents-two sets of cards hovering in the air.

"Well, well," Mr. D said without looking up. "Our little celebrity."

"Good morning Mr. D. What can I do for you?" I asked amiably.

"Come closer," Mr. D said in his usual bored tone. "And don't expect me to kowtow to you, mortal, just because old Barnacle-Beard is your father."

A net of lightning flashed across the clouds. Thunder shook the windows of the house.

"Blah, blah, blah," Dionysus said but I could see him taking the warning seriously.

Chiron feigned interest in his pinochle cards. Grover cowered by the railing, his hooves clopping back and forth. "If I had my way," Dionysus said, "I would cause your molecules to erupt in flames. We'd sweep up the ashes and be done with a lot of trouble. But Chiron seems to feel this would be against my mission at this cursed camp: to keep you little brats safe from harm."

"Spontaneous combustion is a form of harm, Mr. D," Chiron put in.

"Nonsense," Dionysus said. "Boy wouldn't feel a thing. Nevertheless, I've agreed to restrain myself I'm thinking of turning you into a dolphin instead, sending you back to your father."

I kept myself from showing any reaction.

"Mr. D-" Chiron warned.

"Oh, all right," Dionysus relented. "There's one more option. But it's deadly foolishness." Dionysus rose, and the invisible players' cards dropped to the table. "I'm off to Olympus for the emergency meeting. If the boy is still here when I get back, I'll turn him into an Atlantic bottlenose. Do you understand? And Perseus Jackson, if you're at all smart, you'll see that's a much more sensible choice than what Chiron feels you must do."

He then teleported away in a dramatic manner leaving the lingering scent of grapevines behind and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.

Chiron smiled at me, but he looked tired and strained. "Sit, Percy, please. And Grover." We compiled with his request. I made sure that no one was around us, eavesdropping on our conversation. "Tell me, Percy," Chiron said. "What did you make of the hellhound?"

"Someone wanted to get me out of the way... kill me before I became a threat. The Hellhound was summoned with the intention to kill me. The fury, the Minotaur and the Hellhound... they weren't coincidences." I replied

"And let me warn you that you'll meet worse, Percy. Far worse, before you're done."

"Done... with what?" I played my surprised kid part.

"Your quest, of course. Will you accept it?"

"And why should I accept it? And what is the quest even about?" I asked and Chiron sighed. I couldn't tell him that I knew everything already.

"Your father and Zeus are having their worst quarrel in centuries." Chiron said with a grimace. "They are fighting over something valuable that was stolen. To be precise: a lightning bolt."

"Ah... That's why the weather since Christmas has been weird, like the sea and the sky are fighting. And the daughter of Athena, Annabeth, said that she'd overheard something about a theft. And... I've also been having these dreams."

"I knew it," Grover said.

"Hush, satyr." Chiron ordered

"But it is his quest!" Grover's eyes were bright with excitement. "It must be!"

"Only the Oracle can determine." Chiron stroked his bristly beard.

"And this... lightning bolt is Zeus's symbol of power... right?" I asked, already knowing the answer.

"Yes... and I'm not talking about some tinfoil-covered zigzag you'd see in a second-grade play. I'm talking about a two-foot-long cylinder of high-grade celestial bronze, capped on both ends with god-level explosives."

"Oh ,ok... but it shoots lightning bolts in the end regardless of its shape, doesn't it?" I asked genuinely and thunder boomed in the sky.

"Zeus's master bolt," Chiron said, getting worked up now. "The symbol of his power, from which all other lightning bolts are patterned. The first weapon made by the Cyclopes for the war against the Titans, the bolt that sheered the top off Mount Etna and hurled Kronos from his throne; the master bolt, which packs enough power to make mortal hydrogen bombs look like firecrackers."

#He's being a little too dramatic.# Alexander said in my head.

'Yup. Now, don't disturb. I am doing Oscar-level acting here.'

"Oh." I said feigning shock. "And it's stolen?"

"Yes."

"By who?" I asked

"By whom." Chiron corrected my grammar and my eye twitched. This seriously wasn't the time for an English lecture. "By you."

"At least"-Chiron held up a hand before I could react, "that's what Zeus thinks. During the winter solstice, at the last council of the gods, Zeus and Poseidon had an argument. The usual nonsense: 'Mother Rhea always liked you best,' Air disasters are more spectacular than sea disasters,' et cetera. Afterward, Zeus realized his master bolt was missing, taken from the throne room under his very nose. He immediately blamed Poseidon. Now, a god cannot usurp another god's symbol of power directly-that is forbidden by the most ancient of divine laws. But Zeus believes your father convinced a human hero to take it."

"But I didn't steal the bolt." I snapped.

"Patience and listen, child," Chiron said.

"Zeus has good reason to be suspicious. The forges of the Cyclopes are under the ocean, which gives Poseidon some influence over the makers of his brother's lightning. Zeus believes Poseidon has taken the master bolt, and is now secretly having the Cyclopes build an arsenal of illegal copies, which might be used to topple Zeus from his throne. The only thing Zeus wasn't sure about was which hero Poseidon used to steal the bolt. Now Poseidon has openly claimed you as his son. You were in New York over the winter holidays. You could easily have snuck into Olympus. Zeus believes he has found his thief."

"But I've never even been to Olympus! Zeus is crazy!" I said loosing my temper. Yes, I knew that I was going to be blamed for the theft but the way Chiron spoke set me off.

Thunder boomed in the sky and Chiron looked up nervously.

"Err, Percy...?" Grover said. "We don't use the c-word to describe the Lord of the Sky."

"Perhaps paranoid," Chiron suggested. "Then again, Poseidon has tried to unseat Zeus before. I believe that was question thirty-eight on your final exam..."

"Some gods like Hera, Poseidon, Apollo along with some gods imprisoned Zeus in a golden net and didn't let him out till he promised to be a better ruler. I know. I topped that exam Chiron."

"Yes, you did." Chiron said with a smile before turning serious again. "And Zeus has never trusted Poseidon since. Of course, Poseidon denies stealing the master bolt. He took great offense at the accusation. The two have been arguing back and forth for months, threatening war. And now, you've come along -the proverbial last straw."

"But I didn't do anything." I repeated. "And my dad, Poseidon doesn't have the bolt either, does he?"

Chiron sighed. "Most thinking observers would agree that thievery is not Poseidon's style. But the Sea God is too proud to try convincing Zeus of that. Zeus has demanded that Poseidon return the bolt by the summer solstice. That's June twenty-first, ten days from now. Poseidon wants an apology for being called a thief by the same date. I hoped that diplomacy might prevail, that Hera or Demeter or Hestia would make the two brothers see sense. But your arrival has inflamed Zeus's temper. Now neither god will back down. Unless someone intervenes, unless the master bolt is found and returned to Zeus before the solstice, there will be war. And do you know what a full-fledged war would look like, Percy?"

"Bad. Very bad." I replied.

"Yes. Imagine the world in chaos. Nature at war with itself. Olympians forced to choose sides between Zeus and Poseidon. Destruction. Carnage. Millions dead. Western civilization turned into a battleground so big it will make the Trojan War look like a water-balloon fight. And you, Perseus Jackson, will be the first to feel his wrath."

As I said, Chiron was being dramatic. Not exactly exaggerating but telling me the worse case scenario in a dramatic manner.

It started to rain. Volleyball players stopped their game and stared in stunned silence at the sky. I had brought this storm to Half-Blood Hill. Zeus was punishing the whole camp because he suspected me of a theft. I was furious. How dare he?

"So I have to find the stupid bolt," I said. "And return it to Zeus."

"What better peace offering, than to have the son of Poseidon return Zeus's property?" Chiron asked and I nodded.

"If Poseidon doesn't have it, where is the thing?" I asked, hoping that Chiron might have some idea that Alexander and I didn't know off.

"I believe I know." Chiron's expression was grim. "Part of a prophecy I had years ago... well, some of the lines make sense to me, now. But before I can say more, you must officially take up the quest. You must seek the counsel of the Oracle."

"Alright. I will, for the sake of my father, preventing a world war or being turned into a dolphin." I replied.

"Then it's time you consulted the Oracle," Chiron said. "Go upstairs, Percy Jackson, to the attic. When you come back down, assuming you're still sane, we will talk more."

#No demigod has lost their sanity after receiving a prophecy from the oracle.# Alexander remarked as I walked towards the steps.

Four flights up, the stairs ended under a green trap-door. I pulled the cord. The door swung down, and a wooden ladder clattered into place. The warm air from above smelled like mildew and rotten wood and something else... a smell I remembered from biology class. Reptiles. The smell of snakes. I held my breath and climbed.

The attic was filled with Greek hero junk: armor stands covered in cobwebs; once-bright shields pitted with rust; old leather steamer trunks plastered with stickers saying ITHAKA, CIRCE'S ISLE, and LAND OF THE AMAZONS. One long table was stacked with glass jars filled with pickled things-severed hairy claws, huge yellow eyes, various other parts of monsters. A dusty mounted trophy on the wall looked like a giant snake's head, but with horns and a full set of shark's teeth. The plaque read, HYDRA HEAD #1, WOODSTOCK, N.Y., 1969.

By the window, sitting on a wooden tripod stool, was the most gruesome memento of all: a mummy. Not the wrapped-in-cloth kind, but a human female body shriveled to a husk. She wore a tie-dyed sundress, lots of beaded necklaces, and a headband over long black hair. The skin of her face was thin and leathery over her skull, and her eyes were glassy white slits, as if the real eyes had been replaced by marbles; she'd been dead a long, long time.

'What happened to the oracle? Why is it a mummy?'

#I do not know Percy. Now, approach her.#

I went forward and asked, "Oh great oracle of Pythia, what is my destiny?"

#Chiron is rubbing on you Percy.#

'Hush' I replied as green mist poured out from the mummy's mouth, coiling over the floor in thick tendrils, hissing like twenty thousand snakes.

It hissed and spoke in my head.

"You shall go west, and face the god who has turned,

You shall find what was stolen, and see it safely returned

You shall he betrayed by one who calls you a friend

And reveal the traitor and know your foe in the end"

The tail of the mist snake disappeared into the mummy's mouth. She reclined back against the wall. Her mouth closed tight, as if it hadn't been open in a hundred years. The attic was silent again, abandoned, nothing but a room full of mementos. My audience with the oracle was over.

I went back downstairs where Chiron and Grover were still waiting for me. But, I felt another presence in the room standing near them. A female... Annabeth Chase, the daughter of Athena was standing invisible in the room, ready to eavesdrop on our conversation. My mind immediately went to the last two lines of the prophecy.

#Be careful Percy.#

"Well?" Chiron asked me.

"The oracle gave me a prophecy." I replied. I couldn't attack yet. It had to be a surprise. I needed to act unconcerned till I could attack all of a sudden and incapacitate the spy.

"What did the Oracle say exactly?" Chiron pressed. "This is important."

I started pacing around the room. I needed to close the distance between the daughter of Athena and myself before she could act and I couldn't have her get alerted at any cost. So, I paced around the room, reciting the lines of the Prophecy that I had been given.

"The traitor part is concerning..." Chiron said thoughtfully and Grover nodded.

"Yes." I replied. "the part about the traitor is concerning, especially since..." I uncapped the riptide and lunged. When better than to pull off a surprise attack than in the middle of a sentence?. I saw Chiron's eyes widen from the corner of my eye as I swung my sword.

My strike was blocked by the Daughter of Athena who was still invisible, my sword looking like it was stopped by thin air.

"...she is right here." I completed my sentence before disarming her knife and punching her in the gut, channeling godly energy into my hand. I may not be able to see her, but I could feel where she exactly was. A celestial Bronze knife appeared from thin air in mid fall and clattered to the ground as its owner flew into the air and hit the wall.

Annabeth's cap rolled off her head and she became visible. I closed the distance between myself and her and placed my foot on her chest, preventing her from getting up. I pointed my sword at her throat.

She looked terrified. Her grey eyes shone with fear.

"Percy! Stop!" Chiron commanded, appearing beside me and he pulled my sword away. I was shocked. Why was he supporting her?

"What are you doing Chiron? She was eavesdropping on our conversation while invisible. She was spying on us!"

"No she was not. I knew she was here."

"And you let her spy?" I asked with an angry undertone, still not removing my foot from her chest.

"You misunderstand me dear boy. I invited her and told her to stay invisible till the time to choose your companions came. I believe that Annabeth would be an idle choice for the quest."

#Percy... if Chiron is assuring you, then you can trust him. But... let me take over for a moment.# Alexander said and I let him take over.

His (my) eyes met with the terrified gaze of the daughter of Athena for a few moments before he reverted the control back to me.

#She's innocent Percy. I read her mind.# He informed.

'Okay.'

"Percy, even I knew Annabeth was going to be here" Grover said before I could say anything.

"Very well." I told Chiron, removing my foot from her chest and retracting the riptide. "If you say so."

Annabeth breathed a sigh of relief before wincing in pain.

"But, next time, think twice before having such an idea. And keep your dramatics to yourself." I warned both of them and took a seat, my senses confirming that there was no one hiding or eavesdropping on the conversation. Annabeth tried to get up, but immediately grimaced in pain and sat down again, leaning against the wall she had crashed on, breathing deeply.

I felt a little sorry for the girl. My punches were no joke. I thanked the gods that I didn't channel my earthquake powers in my fist or stab her with my sword. It would have definitely killed her.

Chiron immediately hurried to her side and fed her a cube of Ambrosia. She sighed in relief as the ambrosia healed her body before she gingerly stood up and met my gaze, as if expecting me to say something.

"Aren't you going to apologize?" She snapped after a few moments of staring at me and I raised my eyebrow.

"Why?" I calmly asked.

"For nearly killing me!" She shrieked.

"I am so sorry that I thought you were eavesdropping on our conversation without me knowing and thinking that you were the traitor mentioned in the prophecy. I should have absolutely realized that when an invisible person is spying on you and your mentor while we discussed a sensitive matter, they want to dramatically make an appearance and is not actually spying on you for the enemy." I sassed.

Her eyes narrowed in anger and she went to say something but I ignored it and turned to Chiron.

"Sir, can we discuss important matters now?" I asked him, ignoring the daughter of Athena.

"Err... yes. Absolutely. The prophecy that the oracle has given." He replied.

"So... any ideas who is this god in the west?" I questioned him, as my mind whirled for the possibilities.

"Ah, think, Percy," Chiron said. "If Zeus and Poseidon weaken each other in a war, who stands to gain?"

What was up with him and his dramatic questions? Couldn't he give me a straight answer?

"The god of war or somebody who wants to take over or somebody who wants revenge." I said after thinking for a few moments.

I knew the main culprit was Kronos but, he couldn't be the god who turned. The god the Prophecy was referring to was only that: A god. Not a Titan. So, the main suspects for me were: Ares, Hades and the minor gods.

Ares, because he always wanted war and if a war broke out, it would increase his power.

Hades, because if Poseidon and Zeus went to war, they would weaken, and Hades could take over.

Minor gods because they were always ignored and wanted attention. And Kronos could easily manipulate minor gods.

#Brilliant deduction Percy. Whatever you're thinking is bang on... but, knowing Hades, causing a war is not really his style. Not really.#

'I suspect Alexander, I am not saying that he is the thief.'

#Yes. Just saying.# He replied.

"Err... Percy, what do you mean the god of war?" Grover asked.

"If there is a war, wouldn't a war god's domain increase?" I asked purposefully avoiding taking Ares's name. Names had power and I didn't want to offend him needlessly.

"Yes... it may be so... but there is a bigger suspect, at whom all the clues are pointing. Someone who harbors a grudge, who has been unhappy with his lot since the world was divided eons ago, whose kingdom would grow powerful with the deaths of millions. Someone who hates his brothers for forcing him into an oath to have no more children, an oath that both of them have now broken." Chiron replied.

So he was suspecting Hades too.

"You suspect the god of the Dead." I stated dryly. He could have just said the name but he was insisting on being overly dramatic.

Chiron nodded. "The Lord of the Dead is the only possibility."

A scrap of aluminum dribbled out of Grover's mouth. "Whoa, wait. Wh-what?"

"A Fury came after Percy," Chiron reminded him. "She watched the young man until she was sure of his identity, then tried to kill him. Furies obey only one lord: Hades."

"Yes, but-but Hades hates all heroes," Grover pro-tested. "Especially if he has found out Percy is a son of Poseidon... ."

"A hellhound got into the forest," Chiron continued. "Those can only be summoned from the Fields of Punishment, and it had to be summoned by someone within the camp. Hades must have a spy here. He must suspect Poseidon will try to use Percy to clear his name. Hades would very much like to kill this young half-blood before he can take on the quest."

Okay... that made a lot of sense when he put it like that... but framing someone else was the oldest trick in the book to start a war and especially when the crooked one was concerned... one could never be sure.

"But a quest to..." Grover swallowed. "I mean, couldn't the master bolt be in some place like Maine? Maine's very nice this time of year."

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at Grover. Ten minutes ago he was bouncing in his seat for the quest... but, I could understand his predicament. Satyrs and Underworld were polar opposites.

"Hades sent a minion to steal the master bolt," Chiron insisted. "He hid it in the Underworld, knowing full well that Zeus would blame Poseidon. I don't pretend to understand the Lord of the Dead's motives perfectly, or why he chose this time to start a war, but one thing is certain. Percy must go to the Underworld, find the master bolt, and reveal the truth."

#Percy, this is screaming of deception. I am like 80% sure that Hades is innocent and we are blaming the wrong guy... I know, you have similar opinion... But, play along with it. Go to the underworld. It is likely a part of Kronos's plan to have you reach the underworld. We will have to go there to gauge what is his plan. He would make sure that we don't have an alternative. Say yes.#

"Look, if you think it is Hades, why don't you inform the gods? Atleast it will call off the war between my dad and Zeus and give us more time." The daughter of Athena suddenly said.

The question that she asked Chiron was actually genuine.

"Annabeth, I suspect. Suspecting and knowing are not the same. I can't just point fingers at the lord of the dead. I need to have concrete proof to do that, not speculations. And... the prophecy that the oracle gave me is making sense to me after all these years... atleast a few lines are." Chiron said, casting a glance at me.

I got the feeling there was a lot he wasn't telling me about his prophecy, but I decided I couldn't worry about that right now. After all, I was holding back information too. "So let me get this straight," I said. "I'm supposed go to the Underworld and confront the Lord of the Dead."

"Check," Chiron said.

"Find one of the most powerful weapon in the universe."

"Check."

"And get it back to Olympus before the summer solstice, in ten days. And if I fail, World war 3 breaks out."

"That's about right."

"Fan-fucking-tastic."

"Language Percy. Now, you would need two companions for this quest." Chiron said.

I looked at Grover who was eating playing cards as if they were potato chips. "You don't have to go," I told him. "I can't ask that of you."

"Oh..." He shifted his hooves. "No... it's just that satyrs and underground places... well... No, I will come. If... if you're serious about wanting me along Percy, I won't let you down." He sincerely said but his hesitation didn't exactly fill me with confidence.

#Take him Percy. Satyrs are very skilled at nature magic and navigation. They may not be fighters, but their other skills are very useful and will come in handy.# Alexander told me and I gave him a mental nod.

'Alright.' I told him.

"Okay... thanks G-man. So, I need one more partner. And then we go west, to the underworld, which is now situated in..."

"Los Angeles." Chiron supplied.

"Los Angeles. And we would have to travel on land or on water. I don't think Zeus would take kindly to a son of Poseidon boarding a plane."

"You're correct Percy." Chiron said with a nod.

"Okay... So, everything's set. I only need to find someone good and stupid enough to accompany me on this quest."

"Ahem" Annabeth coughed, trying to gain my attention as I got up from my seat.

"Percy... Annabeth has already volunteered." Chiron said and I looked at her.

"I've been waiting a long time for a quest, seaweed brain," she said. "Athena is no fan of Poseidon, but if you're going to save the world, I'm the best person to keep you from messing up."

"By making plans to use me as a bait? No thanks. I have had enough of your stupid plan in the capture of the flag game and your today's plan to make a dramatic entry." I reminded and her face turned red. But, I continued speaking, "And, you would do well to remember that insulting the one who is going to choose you, isn't exactly the best way to get selected. It is stupidity at the best, daughter of wisdom. I would choose Clarisse over you, if we were on a little better terms." I mocked. That girl seriously rubbed me in the wrong way sometimes. Hubris was her fatal flaw.

She sputtered.

#Percy, she won't be a liability on the quest. She's intelligent and a decent fighter. And you don't exactly have a lot to choose from.#

He wasn't wrong.

"Percy..." Chiron said placatingly. "Annabeth has waited for a quest for too long. And she has been training since she was seven. She has experience fighting monsters when she was coming to the camp... She would be a good companion."

I considered Chiron's and Alexander's words. Damn it. I needed to take her.

"Ok. Very well. As she's stupid enough to volunteer and I don't have a lot of options to choose from, I will choose her as my companion." I conceded defeat and Chiron beamed at me. "...but only if she apologizes for insulting me and asks in a nice manner." I added as an afterthought.

Was it petty? Yes.

Did I care? No.

Annabeth turned red at all the insults I was throwing her way and the fact that she has to apologize to me. If Athena was anything like her, I could completely understand the rivalry between my Father and Athena.

"I am sorry. And can I please accompany you on this quest to save the world?" She asked in a tone that could be described only as forcibly polite

"Yes, you can. Now, let us go and prepare for the quest."

"Excellent," Chiron said before Annabeth could say anything. "This afternoon, we can take you as far as the bus terminal in Manhattan. After that, you are on your own."

Good. So, we could atleast reach safely to the bus station and board a bus. After that, the true quest would begin.

"No time to waste," Chiron said. "I think you should all get packing, as Percy said."

I nodded and swept out of the big house. I had a quest to prepare for and a goddess to talk to.

By lunchtime, my bag was ready to make the journey, packed with all the essential supplies. I double-checked that I had my storm-rider, riptide and the extra knife. I still had around four hours though before we set off.

At lunch I readied to sacrifice four potions of my food. One to my dad, one to Hestia, one to Hermes for a safe travel and last to Apollo for the prophecy. Hestia smiled warmly and nodded at me as I sacrificed my food. I mumbled about needing to talk to her and I got a message in my mind to meet her at the hearth of the camp after eating my food.

After quickly eating my lunch, I went to the hearth, which was situated at the center of the inverted-U-shape formed by the cabins. As soon as I arrived at the hearth, Hestia appeared in her 30-year-old form.

"Percy." She smiled warmly and whatever anxiety I had for the quest, melted away in an instant.

"Aunt Hestia." I said, returning the smile and taking my customary seat beside her.

"What did you want to talk about Percy?" She asked kindly, really reminding me of my own mother.

"I'm going to go on a quest Aunt Hestia. I don't know if you already know about it or not, but I had an audience with the oracle a few hours ago and I am leaving for the quest in about three hours... So... I just wished to talk to you before I left... and you know, get your opinion on the prophecy." I told her.

"I know that you're going to go on a quest to retrieve my brother's master bolt but, I don't know the exact lines of the Prophecy. You will have to tell me the prophecy Percy, and remember that Prophecies aren't always clear. You won't know what the lines refer to till the event comes to pass."

"Yeah... So, the prophecy, it goes like this..." I told her the prophecy and her face turned sadder with each passing line.

"God who has turned... betrayed... Traitor... foe..." She mumbled. "This is not good Percy. Not good at all."

"I know... Any ideas on who this god is?"

Hestia contemplated for a few moments before asking, "What did Chiron tell you?"

"He thinks it is your eldest brother."

"Hades... I don't think he... I don't believe he would actually do such a thing and instigate a war."

"But, Chiron pointed out that all the evidence was against him... and he gave a list as to why Hades is the culprit." I said with a shrug. Hades was a suspect despite whatever Alexander knew about him. Even Alexander agreed so. Kronos could be manipulating anyone. He wasn't called the Crooked on for no reason.

"Yeah... I can see it... A fury came after you, the hellhound, him and his grudges. Yeah... but, I still don't think it could be Hades."

"I have other suspects. The god of war and the minor gods."

"You mean... cabin 5?"

"Yes. He loves war, doesn't he? And a war would empower his domains. Or, some minor god who is angry about not being given importance and wants to have revenge."

"That... also makes sense. A lot of sense actually. But, you can't be sure, can you?"

"Yeah. That's the problem. I can't go on pointing fingers at random gods just because I have a theory. I really don't fancy dying soon."

"That's right" She replied.

"So, I have no other option than to go to the underworld and confront the god of the dead and find Zeus's symbol of power and return it before the Solstice." I concluded. We sat in silence for a few minutes, watching the flames of the hearth as I fiddled with the pen in my hand. The warmth of the hearth was comforting. It was like the hearth was giving me hope... reassuring me and telling me that I'll do it.

#And you will do it Percy. We have been training for this and I will always be with you. Don't worry.#

'Yeah... I know. But, I am still nervous.'

#Ah... like pre-examination jitters. Yeah, no problem. Just relax though.#

'Trying to do just that.'

"Percy" Hestia said and I hummed. "I can't let you go alone on such a quest."

"I'm not going alone. Grover and the daughter of Athena, Annabeth Chase, are coming with me on the quest. I am sure that Grover will support me to hell and back, which is exactly what we're doing, but, I have my doubts about the daughter of Athena."

"What doubts?" Hestia questioned.

"If she is the best person for the quest. The girl's too prideful and sure about herself. She thinks that no one can make better plans than her... That she's the best and that her plans are infallible. She won't admit that she's wrong. She never takes the views of her team mates into account... Atleast that is what I have gauged so far about her in the past three weeks that I have been here."

"I think that you may be too quick to judge her Percy and give her a chance... but, nonetheless I wasn't talking in that sense. I was saying that I can't send you without anything on this quest."

I looked at her inquisitively and she snapped her fingers and a box appeared in her hand. She opened the box and removed a beautiful Balisong knife from it.

"I hope you know what this is." She said, flipping the knife open like a pro.

"A Balisong knife, also known as a butterfly knife or the fan knife. A handy weapon which you can do many tricks with." I replied. Alexander had made sure that I knew about every type of weapon used.

She smiled in response. "Perfect answer. Yes, it is a Balisong knife, made of Atlantean steel and Celestial bronze. Now, if you don't know, Atlantean steel is a godly metal mined under the sea and used widely by mermen and other water creatures in Poseidon's army. Since you're a son of the sea, only a blade with a connection to the sea will feel balanced for you." She said as she played with the knife. The tricks she was doing really looked cool.

"Oh. So, like the riptide this will also feel balanced?"

"Yes." She said, handing me the closed knife.

"Thank you." I said as I took the knife she had given and tested it. As soon as I opened the knife, I felt it connecting to me. It probably had an enchantment like the riptide.

The mechanism of the Balisong was extremely smooth as I flipped the knife open. I didn't know how I did it so flawlessly on my first try, but I had flipped the knife open like I had been doing it since years and not the first time. It was probably because I was the champion of the god of swordsmanship... and the knife technically was a very small sword.

"Whoa, you got it right on the first try Percy." She said. I just grinned at her before I started examining the knife.

The craftmanship was beautiful. The handle and the blade were both seven and a half inches in length, making it longer than the extra knife that I kept- the one I had taken after slaying the cyclops on the day Alexander first spoke to me. That one had a six-inch blade and a four inch hilt and looked like a big kitchen knife than anything else. This knife on the other hand looked professional. The blade was extremely sharp too.

"It will serve you as a weapon and also help with ADHD. You can play with this knife like I was doing. But, that's not its only feature."

"What? Does it light on fire too?" I asked jokingly.

"Yes it does."

"Wait. Seriously?"

"Yup." she said popping the 'p'. "Think that you want a flaming blade." She replied, with a grin.

I thought of a flaming knife and true to her word, the blade was covered in flames instantly.

"WHOA! This is so cool. Thank you Hestia." I said giving her a hug which she returned before ruffling my hair.

"Yes, it won't even require you channeling power in it to light it on fire. But, that's not all it has got."

"There's more?" I asked bewildered. A cool Balisong knife that could light on fire with a thought. What else did one want?

"Yes. Rub the fire symbol on the handle. It is on both sides of the handle." I looked at the handle and saw that there was a fire symbol located in the place where my thumb would fall when I grip the knife. As soon as I rubbed the symbol, the Balisong knife turned into a Greek dagger. The blade was a foot long and the hilt was 6 inches in length.

"Cool." I said, testing the weapon. Now, I had the storm-rider, Riptide and this Balisong knife-dagger and the extra knife in my weapon arsenal. Four weapons were going to be on me at all times and the storm rider and this knife had two forms each.

I rubbed the fire symbol on the hilt again, and the knife reverted to the Balisong form.

"Now, you don't have to worry about loosing the knife. Think about it and it will appear in your hands. Also, if you touch the Balisong blade to a lock and say ανοίγω(open), the lock will open unless it is protected by some high-level godly energy. It will open all forms of mortal locks including those password or fingerprint locks. And the knife is almost unbreakable and won't loose its sharpness or fluid mechanism."

"Err... Are you sure you want to give such a powerful knife to me?" An knife that can nearly open any lock! I wondered what a Hermes kid would do with this.

#Probably steal everything in the camp by nightfall.# Alexander replied.

"Yes, I am sure Percy that you are good enough to use this knife. And it will help you a lot in the future. Trust me." She said and I nodded, accepting the knife and slipping it in my pocket.

"Thank you Aunt Hestia." I said giving her another hug.

"You're welcome Percy, but that's not all."

"Aunt Hestia... This knife is more than I could ever ask for."

"No Percy... you're the first person to talk to me in several centuries except for my godly family. And, let me tell you that time is immaterial to us gods. I rarely got to talk to anyone before you came here. I am mostly ignored by everyone because I am not an Olympian goddess. I am not important."

I snorted and she looked at me.

"That is because they are fools. Anyone can see that you are the most important goddess in the pantheon. You're the goddess of home and family. You are the eldest Olympian. You are the goddess of the hearth. If the hearth extinguishes, the very soul of the place dies. The place is becomes uninhabitable and cursed. If you are not there, Olympus will cease to exist and the age of gods would come to an end. So, by all means, you are the most important Olympian because you are the goddess of the hearth and the goddess of home and family. Without family and a place to call home, a person will never be at peace despite all his or her accomplishments." I spoke passionately.

Alexander had taught me the importance of each god in the pantheon especially the Olympians.

If Zeus faded, a new king could be chosen. If Poseidon wasn't there, Triton or someone else could control the seas, if Apollo or Artemis died, their lieutenants could drive their chariots. But, Hestia, she couldn't be replaced. She embodied the hearth of the house. If something happened to her, Olympus would fall apart, and so would everything that the Olympians made. During the Titan era, there were four Titans: Koios — Titan of the North, Hyperion — Titan of the East, Iapetus — Titan of the west and Krios — Titan of the South who held the civilization and Mount Othrys. When the four of them were killed... or rather sent to reform Mount Othrys fell and the Golden age of the Titans ended. (Of course, it also would have brought about the collapse of the sky, but Atlas got the punishment to hold the sky for eternity.)

After the gods took over, Hestia did their duties to hold the civilization in the form of the hearth. What the four titans did during the golden age was now her job. If she fell, so would the age of gods.

And not to mention, she was also the goddess of fire which was one of the most powerful elements, even more powerful than lightning.

Hestia looked at me with moist eyes and gave me a watery smile. This was probably the first time someone had made her feel so important since she had stepped down as an Olympian and gave her seat to Dionysus.

"And, that's why Percy, I have chosen you to be my champion." She said, pride beaming from her voice.

I goggled at her. "Wait- wha- wait a moment. Champion? Cha- I haven't done anything worthy enough to become your champion Aunt Hestia. I am not worthy of the position!"

Alexander had explained to me what becoming the champion of a god meant. When a god or goddess made you their champion, it was same as adopting the person. The person who became a champion would get the same powers, that a powerful demigod child of the deity would receive. They would receive control over all of the domains that the god or goddess had. instead of a few of them

That was why gods very-very rarely chose a champion. In fact, no person had ever became a champion for a an Elder Olympian(Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter and Hestia). The best the gods did, was to become a patron for a demigod, giving advise and support to them or, at best, a blessing. An example of this would be Artemis. Her whole hunt received her blessing, which only the person(exclusively maidens) a boost in archery and hunting skills but, no huntress bar her first lieutenant had ever became her champion.

Hera had blessed Herakles with superior strength when he was a child but Herakles wasn't her champion.

So, I hope you understand that becoming a champion for a god or goddess is a pretty big thing, especially the champion of the eldest goddess, Hestia.

#Yeah... becoming Hestia's champion would make you pretty powerful. And you already are a powerful son of Poseidon and my champion... well unofficial champion, but it makes no difference anyways except you can receive 24/7 help and advise from me.#

'I know! I haven't even done anything worthy enough to become her champion!'

"Percy, Percy, Percy." Hestia said putting her hand on my shoulder and simultaneously breaking mine and Alexander's conversation. "The person who you are speaks a lot. You embody everything I price above all. A very strong sense of Family, courage to stand up to do what's right, kindness and most importantly your unparalleled loyalty to those whom you consider as family, which coincidently is your fatal flaw too. You know, most demigods here aren't even able to see me, and those few who can usually forget about me the very instant they think about something else and ignore my existence. The fact that you can see me and remember me is because of your sense of family and loyalty to them while the rest forget." She said. I would have actually never guessed that one. The only reason I knew was because Alexander had told me.

"The very moment you sat beside me on your first day at the camp and conversed with me," She continued, "I knew of that you were a very good person, and when you fulfilled your promise to speak with me everyday possible, I became sure that you embody what the hearth stands for. You actually sat beside me that day thinking I was a lonely, bored girl and wanted to cheer me up. You had no ulterior motive. You didn't know that I was a goddess. Don't you think I know that you're staying here only because of me and haven't gone home back to your mother? I know Percy that you don't like here because most of campers here are wary of you or even outright dislike you. You miss your mom. And yet you chose to stay here, not because of the danger your life would be if you went out of these borders, but, rather because you didn't want to leave me alone. And, that is why, I know you're worthy to become my champion."

She smiled warmly at me as she finished speaking. I opened and closed my mouth but I couldn't form any words. After a few moments of silence, Hestia spoke up again. "I will be honored to have you as my champion Percy. Will you give me that honor?" She asked, her eyes pleading for me to say yes.

#Accept it Percy. You'll break her heart if you say no.#

I nodded. "If you're sure, Aunt Hestia. I say, you should reconsider. Whatever I do would reflect on you. I don't want to put you in the crossfire if I do something wrong."

"I am sure Percy." She replied firmly

I took a deep breath. "Okay... I will accept if you say so."

She beamed at me and touched my head and started chanting in Greek. A minute later an orange glow surrounded me and I felt a power rush. I felt myself becoming more powerful. I sensed a connection with fire and... food?

I felt my storm-rider warming up.

#Its power reciprocated yours. I guess you'll be able to shoot fire with it now like you can shoot water. Also, the weapon has grown more powerful than it was before# Alexander said

I opened my eyes again once the sensation stopped. Hestia was smiling at me.

"Perseus Jackson. From today you will be regarded as my first champion." She formally said. It was probably a ritual of some sort. "You will be completely resistant to any type of fire including Greek-fire and be able to control them. You have the powers of the hearth to speed up healing of your own self or another person. You also will be able to instill hope in people when they are at their lowest and have the ability to summon home-made food."

My eyes widened. While speeding up healing and summoning food were cool powers, controlling Greek-fire of all things was insane. Greek fire was extremely deadly to divine beings, especially monsters. It could burn nearly everything it touched. It also had the ability to burn under water.

"G-Greek fire?"

"Yes. You also have the ability to throw Greek-fire balls if you're angered or train your power well... too well actually. Even I needed a month of continuous practice to be able to throw fireballs made of Greek-fire. You will take even longer, being a demigod. But, I can teach you basics today like throwing normal fireballs and summoning food before you leave. The complex things can be learnt later... but, in exchange you'll teach me the card tricks that you've been showing me."

"You're the best Aunt Hestia." I said with a grin and she blushed at the praise.

Two and a half hours later, I stumbled back into my cabin for a quick shower so that I could get ready to go for the quest. In that time, all I had achieved was the ability to throw fireballs a little bigger than the size of a baseball and summon food. I was exhausted at the end of it. Alexander had instructed me to drink nectar after taking the shower to restore my energy.

I had bid Hestia goodbye with another hug and kissed her cheek before coming to my cabin. I won't be meeting her till I returned from the quest as godly interference during quests was restricted unless an exchange of information or aid for doing a task for the god or something took place. So, I won't be able to talk to her till I returned.

I got ready once again after drinking a glass of nectar. I rechecked if I had everything including my new Balisong knife. I checked the clock and saw that I had to meet Grover and the daughter of Athena at the pine tree or Thalia's tree, as it was called in fifteen minutes. That was when my sight fell upon the minotaur horn hanging on the wall above my bed.

Monster spoils were high level sacrifices to the gods and usually exchanged for small favors. I couldn't repay Hestia for making me her champion but, I could sacrifice the horn to her atleast! I took the horn off the wall and slung my bag over my shoulders before locking my room and the Poseidon cabin. I walked towards the Hearth. Hestia wasn't there but it mattered not as I dropped the horn in the fire, saying, "To Hestia. Thank you for believing me to be worthy enough to be your champion, and thank you." I felt a warm feeling fill me up like my mom had just hugged me. I hurried towards the pine tree.

A quest to prevent a war awaited.

AND... CUT! Next Chapter, the quest of the lightning thief begins.

An important note before you ask me questions: NO, Percy's not going to go around getting blessings from every other god or goddess he meets. He'll only have the powers from Alexander, Hestia, and Poseidon. No other god.

.

Guest: The chapter length depends on my mood tbh and how much time I get to write it.

Walter Ha: Storm bringer will be Percy's primary weapon. He was hiding the weapon till now so that people don't start questioning him. He used the riptide that he had taken from Chiron instead.

MyrddinEmrys2001: Ok... I understood what you are suggesting. Worry not. I will show Percy using his powers during the quest and especially from the sea of monster quest. Currently, Percy has to behave like he doesn't know about his powers and heritage. Now, that he has been claimed, he will start showing a little bit of his powers in front of normal public. During his first quest too, he will be showing only a few of his powers. It will be pretty suspicious if a newly claimed demigod has a mastery and complete control over his powers, won't it? You will see him use his full powers of control over sea, storm, earthquakes etc. once the Sea of monster part begins.

.

Well... that's all. I will see what to do about the armor. Keep giving me suggestions though.

And Holy shit! this chapter went 11K words long!.
