Tails couldn't believe it, of course, these weren't the Freedom Fighters he knew they were just the same people from a different dimension but he couldn't help it, seeing them again after a very long time of only planning and hoping they were gonna be okay, one side of him didn't wanted to do much or not confuse them any further but the other side decided to do the most obvious thing to do in a moment like that. Run towards them and give them a big hug. Was that going to confuse them? Yes, definitely, but being overcome by joy was a bigger deal.
The first one to receive the glorious fox hug was of course, Antoine, for him it was like seeing a ghost or something like that.
"Didn't know you could hug like that" said Sonic to his own Tails while they both looked surprised.
"I don't think I did either" the fox replied.
Tails broke the hug and immediately proceeded to hug Sally receiving a less tighter hug but with the same level of confusion.
"Um... Tails?" she said after spotting the other Tails behind them.
"I'm sorry" said the fox wiping his tears away now being fully the center of attention "I got carried off, but-".
"So..." interrupted the other Tails "You said you're from another dimension? Because I think we all would like an explanation".
"Yeah, right! About that... I-" he took another look at Antoine smiling before actually explaining "We should go to a better place, I know one not far from here, c'mon! I'll try to answer all your questions there!"
"What?" Sally was very confused "Another dimension?"
"Heh, it's not that we haven't experienced those before and that would explain most of our questions" explained Sonic.
"Not all the questions I see, we have new ones" said Antoine still shocked by Tails' reaction.
"Shouldn't we follow... Tails?" said Tails.
"Just like that?" Rotor asked "What about the Sky Patrol? We can't just leave it here"
"We have Nicole back there, and if something happens then we have her with us," Sally explained showing the hand-held "Now, let Tails lead the way".
With that said, the group set off to wherever the Tails from this dimension was leading them, and it was true, this explained some of the questions but at the same new ones were present including Tails' weird and sudden hugs or why he knew instantly they where from another dimension and now taking them to a base with very little hesitation about it, but anyways, he acted as if he indeed knew the answer for everything so it was smart to just follow him. On the way to that place Sally still felt some headache but managed to shrug it off without anyone noticing.
Soon, they arrived to what it looked from the outside to be a small hill right next to a forest with an entrance to it, and on top of it a pretty nice-looking flag.
"So, welcome to what we call the Freedom HQ!" introduced Tails opening the door for the team to enter.
They all entered and an underground base was actually kinda cozy, but that wasn't what took Rotor and other Tails's attention.
"Wow, what's all of that?" said Rotor surprised when they passed next to the lab of the base "This is where you work in?"
"Heh, I guess yes, this is where we usually work in," the fox explained shyly "I can explain it to both of you later with a more in-depth analysis but this is not our stop, c'mon!" he led them through the staircase that led to the lower, more 'chill' room of the base, where Tails quickly set everything for everyone like telling them to take a seat and even turning on the TV they had as well as putting out some controllers sparking the curiosity of the rest of the team.
"Wow Tails..." commented Bunnie "Didn't knew you were like this".
"I'll be with you in a minute, I have to take care of something upstairs, but you can use it if you want" he replied handing out the controllers to Sonic and Tails who slowly accepted it "As for now, just make yourselves comfortable" going back to the lab upstairs, Sally and Bunnie looked each other in confusion but shrugged it off.
But on with Tails, he was also trying to see what was supposed to come next, Amy was missing and Sonic was also nowhere to be found for now so his best guess was that they were all separated when whatever happened at the Death Egg happened, but at least he could rely on a third character to get some small info, T-Pup was still out there, if he could get to contact him from the main lab then he could get some info to what happened in other places. It had to be quick because he also had to take care of the guests down below waiting to get an explanation of everything. After some typing the image of T-Pup slowly appeared in the screen barking happily finally making contact with him.
"Hey there buddy!" said Tails quite happy to see him in good shape "Is everything okay? Where are you?"
T-Pup allowed the camera to make a small panoramic shot and then focusing on the town he was in.
"Feral Forest?" Tails asked with T-Pup nodding "It's not too far from here- Have you seen Sonic?"
The little bot didn't reply but instead expressed a 'not-as-you-think' look flying around the two zooming on two very... interesting people.
"Hey that's Son- wait, that's not Sonic, he never has a scarf or bandages..." his expression quickly changed to excitement to big realization "And... another... me? How? Can- Can you check them out?"
T-Pup nodded.
"That's good, and maybe in half an hour can you guide them to Freedom HQ?"
The pup nodded again with Tails sighing in relief but also slightly worried.
"Okay, I'll see you in a while buddy" he said before cutting the transmission.
"More than one Sonic? Why did this happen? I only remember bringing one and why would more people come here?" after being lost in thought for a seconds he began to make a second call hoping to see if something else had happened
"Tails?" The transmission picked revealing the Artificial Intelligence, Nicole, on screen.
"Hey Nicole, how is everything going?"
"Well... Rotor has started working in the de-robotizer and we've had an unexpected guest".
"What kind of guest?" asked Tails slowly expecting the worst.
"Well, it's Sonic but he only seems to be familiar with Cream and Big, he doesn't recognize neither of us and I was wondering... did you had to use the dimension plan?"
"Uh... yeah, but, are you saying that you've found another Sonic?" he said accidentally slipping the word
"I would say that- wait, another Sonic? Tails, what happened?"
"I don't know! But T-Pup also spotted another Sonic in Feral Forest! And I'm currently in Freedom HQ dealing with a similar situation".
Nicole seemed shocked.
"That doesn't sound good, are you saying that we have three Sonics? What about our Sonic?"
"I haven't found him yet, something happened in the Death Egg that caused all of us to split apart, but that would mean that we already have four Sonics".
"Yeah, that doesn't sound good, the Council of Acorn only approved to bring one more and that was after Rotor and Sonic convinced them so... I'll try to find Sonic and keep things in control around here".
"Roger that, I'll do the same over here" cutting the transmission and Tails was now very worried and confused but not panicking, there was going to be an explanation for all of this soon or later but at least it seemed like they had the situation under control, this could also mean that there could be many more Sonics scattered around the planet but at this point they could all hope for the best. For now he needed to go and finally explain things to the Freedom Fighters and maybe their side of the story could also explain some things, when he left the lab and headed down the main hub, he saw Sonic and Antoine having an exciting rivalry match in a fighting game.
"Zat was not fair! How am I supposed to fight something in the stage while having to fight you as well?" Antoine complained.
"You're still pretty bad without something invading the stage" Sonic cockily added.
"Also wasn't you the one who chose the level?" said Bunnie.
"That's okay," interrupted Tails "I'll now tell you everything I know, it'll be quick but buckle up..."
Fortunately for Eggman the Death Egg had a defense against an EMP attack, unfortunately for Eggman this require a few minutes to boot up and only managed to bring back to life simple things like some cameras of alarms in primary areas, so he couldn't do much with it at the moment except waiting for something to happen and with his current mood this was definitely no time to wait and with the sunset almost there it wasn't the right time for an a blackout... However, the unexpected happened. He heard the sounds of someone approaching but the it sounded metallic and it wasn't hurried at all, then suddenly, Mecha Sally appeared.
She showed signs of being beaten up but nothing major, but her presence was exactly what Eggman needed to change his mood.
"Oh-ho-ho! If it isn't my star student..! How are you still up and running anyway?"
"This unit was outside the EMP blast radius" she replied emotionless.
"Well, what a lucky surprise! Now let's get you to repair before-"
"I was able to spot the source from the electromagnetic pulse".
"Wait, you did what?"
"The location of the origin of it was spotted around this continent, I could find it".
"Ah, but you're damaged... who am I kidding, I don't have the patience to do it, I can always fix you later, now go! This should be interesting..."
With Mecha Sally's eyes glowing red and her engines starting again, she quickly left the Death Egg to find who or whatever caused this... At least the defense mechanism for the base just managed to turn on, Eggman should have some short vigilance.
Meanwhile, on another area in the same continent of Artika, the night was now starting to come down and so was the snow beginning to precipitate so if anyone was outside they were going to need either a shelter or something to keep them warm, anything. Unfortunately, right now, he wasn't wearing anything and he had already been through the entire landmass a couple of times, yeah, he was looking for someone instead for a specific place but this continent didn't had that many caves, he spotted some natives but currently he wanted to avoid being seen. After one more lap, there was a rock that worked as a roof so maybe he could crawl under there.
"Don't worry, it's gonna be okay," he said to himself "Everything's gonna be okay tomorrow maybe I'll ask some help and then... then I can find Tom. For now I just have to hide... under a rock... on the snow, the cold snow... yeah I'll be fine".
Let's hope he is actually fine. The chapter ends here! Movie Sonic has been revealed so that means that all the Sonics in this adventure had been introduce... But now we have the little blue blur hiding under a rock while a killer robot is unknowingly looking for him
