Chapter 4: Not American! I'm Japanese!

"Ugh..." Itami Yoji groaned, feeling pain mostly in his upper body. What happened? Why is he in pain? Why everything look so...so… blurry? Feeling sensation on his forehead, face, and back, Itami placed his hand against his forehead to feel what kind of injury while trying to figure out what's going on.

Ouch! Why his nose is hurting so bad?

Last he remembered, he was riding on the vehicle leading the other two vehicles. Where is he and why is he feeling so...so...dazed? Did he mentioned how everything look so...foggy?

Trailing his fingers, Itami could feel few bumps on his head. Along with hair. Exposed hair.

Something not right...Where is his helmet? Why his hands feel so...so...exposed? As matter of fact, why his body feeling cold?

Groggily waving his hand in front of his face, Itami could make out his skin. Uncovered. No gloves…

NO GLOVES!

Straining himself to get into a sitting position with a weak groan, Itami squinted his eyes in attempt to see through blurriness at his own body. As he stared and stared, his vision slowly became clearer before Itami could finally see his body.

His very own body in naked glory with only a black brief. And bruises.

"Where's my uniform?" Itami sound alarmed before hissing in pain. He could make out one nasty bruise on his chest. Well, that explained why his chest feeling as if it took a wrecking ball or something. But what caused it?

Itami has so many questions racing through his mind as he look around in his surrounding. Instead of clean and neat room (albeit little bit organized mess) Itami accustomed to, the room resembled dungeon. A freaking dungeon with rough stony wall and crappy lighting provided by a torch.

A TORCH? AND BARS! PRISON BARS!

Has he been...captured? Taken as a prisoner? WHO? Greenskins from the second invasion or...those associated with the mixed race group?

The Japanese man tried to further recall his last memory. Ok, he remembered being in the passenger seat. Occasionally giving quick status report. Nothing unusual about the Special Region as far as Earth military concern.

No...Itami recalled something about a village but doesn't remember who found it.

Americans? Chinese?

What he did remembered was the driver, Sgt Kurata made some remarks about...about...Curious? Curiosity? Itami is feeling a headache.

Wait a minute, where's his squad? Itami grunted as he gingerly got off...some kind of straw cot. Taking few seconds to further self examine his body with his knees not wobbling too badly.

Good. He can run when needed. Making his way, Itami grasped the iron bars before testing by pulling. The bars made weak groaning sound. Ok, not secured enough.

Great, but where is his squad? Whoever the captors, they must've put each squad mate (Itami hope nobody die) in their own cell. Itami is assuming his prison cell is next to other cells since he could only see the earthly wall.

Before Itami could think further, he heard a familiar voice belonging calling out from his left in Japanese.

"Hello? Third Recon Team?"

It's Kurata! Good, he survived!

"Hai, Lt Itami here, Sgt Kurata."

"Ah sir! Whew...Been waiting for you or someone." Kurata's voice sound relieved before sounding sheepish, "This is going to sound dumb but err...do you have any extra pant? And a pair of socks? It's chilly."

"You too, huh? Afraid not, whoever put us in the cells. They stripped us down to our uh current state. Afraid they're not big on hospitality." Well, at least the unknown captors didn't take underwear. That would be unbearable.

Itami heard Kurata groaning in annoyance and questioned, "Sgt, is anyone else up?"

"Hai, Pvt Tozu. He's on the other side of my cell. Next to his is Pvt Furuta. Think his is at the end."

Itami perked up as he spoke, "He see the door?"

"No sir, a T shaped hallway."

"Did you see who captured us?" Itami wanting to know.

"Hai, it's the first invaders. Saw a wolf man earlier...He's a lot scarier than in movie. Didn't see human or others."

"I see. They may be here as well. Hmm..."

A different Japanese voice could be heard from distance, "Head up! Someone's coming!"

That's when Itami and other members of Third Recon Team heard footstep. Several footsteps and someone speaking in rough accent. In a language spoken by people living in the Special Regions. Itami and everybody involved in the expedition have been issued a book containing a list of phrases in what it is called the Common Language along with pronunciation.

Although Itami has taken time to read and familiarize himself when he feel like it, he couldn't understand most of words spoken that are best described as unfriendly as sandpaper to his ears.

"-man-...-here-..." Just those two words Itami recognized. Letting go of the bars, Itami took two steps back. Anticipating to see the faces as he mentally prepared himself.

What he didn't expect to hear is Kurata making excited gasp, "A cat girl-!"

What?

Someone snarled and hit Kurata's bars, causing the JSDF sergeant to...apologize, "Sorry sorry, not insulting you!" His apology isn't well received as another snarling. Most likely because the cat girl and others don't understand Japanese. Also, why Kurata not speaking Common considering how much the higher up strongly encouraged to read and study the Common Language prior to arriving to the Special Region?

Yup, Itami could hear another hit. Deciding to grab their attention, Itami spoke in Common Language non-fluently, "Hello! Who you?"

Suddenly, someone made a sudden appearance in front of the cell. It's a cat girl. Or a cat woman. Ok, Itami doesn't see what made Kurata so excited because this battle hardened looking cat woman in rugged leather outfit look rather menacing with fierce yellow eyes glowing with hostility, messy brown hair, and couple scars on her face and neck. Though if there's a better lighting, Itami would say her human looking face look attractive.

And oh, she's wielding a mace. With spikes. Basically, that cat woman's appearance screamed "Don't mess with me or I'll mess you up real good".

The fierce cat woman snarled loudly before speaking with some Itami was able to understand, "This one- up! Up- give- arm!" She gestured her index claw, pointing at Itami's cell and a...plain looking man also dressed in leather outfit with metal helmet appeared.

Itami couldn't help himself but to feel disappointed even though it's not a good time since he's in cell with only underwear protecting his modesty. Really, that European descent man look so plain that he wouldn't stick out even in Japan.

The plain looking man pulled a ring of keys out.

"They're taking me out of cell?" Itami thought, "Must be for interrogation. Oh, I meant to ask sergeant and the privates if they have been interrogated or not and what kind of questions asked."

Wearing a friendly expression as if he's being asked to schedule a meeting to go over manga generic plot, Itami spoke, "What happening?"

The plain man paused to glance questioningly at fierce cat woman who shook her head before hissing. Probably saying "Just do it" or something.

The door opened and the cat woman immediately marched in, still in bad mood as evident of her tone in Common, "Move, Ameereekan."

"Me not Ame- Whoa!" Itami tried to tell her he's not American but the cat woman just didn't care enough as she roughly grabbed his bicep and forcibly dragged him out of the cell.

"Hey hey hey, not so rough!" Itami spoke in Japanese before correcting himself in Common, "Rough no good!"

The cat woman briefly glared at Itami as if he's stupid before dragging him, hissing "Dumb Ameereekan- Think we stupid."

"Not Ameri- I mean, no Ameer-"

"Quiet, Ameereekan!" Itami felt the plain man shoved his back as a warning as the cat woman pulled out a rope to tie his hands together with the plain man's help.

Itami did his best to keep friendly expression but stumbling along the dirty stony floor barefoot isn't helping. Do people here not keep the floor clear of pebbles and dirt? Plus the hostile woman's claws made themselves somewhat painfully noticeable. Itami has no doubt that they could easily tear through his skin and into muscles.

Ignoring the questions from conscious JSDF personnel, Itami was then escorted through the hallway. But not before catching the sight of how bruised Kurata and others look in their cell. It seems they have received first hand experience of what is like to be a prisoner in medieval time or those injuries came from...ambush prior to being captured, Itami guessed.

While being escorted, Itami made few notes about the environment he's in.

Poor lighting? Check.

Unclean environment? Check.

Being man-handled by not so friendly prison guards? Check, Itami is totally loving this authentic medieval experience…NOT. Only weirdo would dig the rough treatment. If he could and if the Internet review exist in the Special Region, Itami would give a rating of a whopping zero. If Itami is in light mood, he would've give 3.5 stars on medieval treatment of prisoners in term of historic accuracy.

What missing from history book and manga is being referred as American or Ameereekan despite his effort to tell them otherwise. But his escorts just don't care enough to listen other than dragging him through seemly confusing hallway that is more like a maze and giving him an impression of underground dungeon. Or mine, not completely sure which one.

Itami was briefly reminded of his time in humanitarian mission outside Japan. When he was escorting the doctors and their staff through the town, trying to avoid the dangerous street that was filled with gun firing between the American patrols and the local terrorists who have seemly bad sense of timing.

He remembered people screaming and chaotically trying get to safety. How Itami led the medical group through the messy crowd with few locals taking time to hurl insult in their local language. Despite bearing visible Japanese flag and wearing uniform that is different from US military uniform, Itami had an angry local man yelling "American" at his face with nasty visage.

As if blaming him for causing a firefight. Only to be disregarded, Itami had to get the doctors and staff to safety. Pushing through the frightened people to clear the way.

After long walk, Itami blinked his eyes at sudden change in lighting before noticing the wooden doors being guarded by a cat man and-

Itami shook his head before checking the second guard. No, he's seeing alright. That other guard has four arms. FOUR ARMS! Like a certain villain in old classic game that everybody talk about back when he was young.

The cat woman finally let go of Itami's arm to bang the door, barking out announcement, "He here!"

A female voice called out from the other side, presumably saying "Let him in."

The doors opened and the plain looking man shoved Itami forward with the cat woman suddenly heaved him into the room, briefly surprising him with broken English, "Talk or die" with the doors closing shut.

Decent customer service here, yeah right. Itami got forcibly stand up with the guards inside the room roughly grabbing his arms. In front of him, he could see two humans. One man and one woman. Standing next to few wooden tables with candles providing the light along with torches on the walls.

As with others, both have rugged looking leather armor over clothing. The man look to be middle age has rather Viking looking ginger hair and beard with few strands of grayness and a pair of striking green eyes. Standing taller than Itami's height with stocky body build.

Itami would comment that Viking man could win a cosplay costume contest at comic con if he has the right outfit and weapon props.

In contrast, the woman has slender body and look to be 25-30 years old with long ponytail of black hair, fair skin, and diamond shape face. As far as Itami could see, the woman look attractive. Even with how cold her eyes look. Being red and all…

Itami blinked before staring. Red eyes. Cold red eyes staring at him. There is something familiar about those eyes and it can't be manga or a certain tv show that he was forced to watch.

Right away, Itami got a flashback in his head of himself being in the military vehicle. Cruising on the dirt road…

Flashback…

"That is kind of curious..." Sgt Kurata remarked as his hands on the steering wheel, not taking his eyes off the road.

Putting the radio down after contacting Lt Charley and Cpt Chaoxiang, Lt Itami asked, "What's curious?"

"It has been over three hours since we split away from the Americans and Chinese and we have not encounter anything worth noting. Just funny looking squirrels and birds when we had to stop to check on our front tires. But our American ally found a village." Sgt Kurata slowly went quiet.

"You're expecting adventure and excitement?" Avoiding mention of potential disaster with anti-American senitment in the Special Region, Lt Itami glanced at the driver who answered.

"Little bit but nothing like bandits or-" Cue Kurata's shudder before continuing, "Greenskins...Who came up with that term? I know they have green skin but that's just too basic. Couldn't we call them orcs, goblins, or something?"

"Because calling them orcs or whatever would be like calling giraffe a horse." Said Private Higashi who's sitting in the back.

"What Private said," Lt Itami responded, "And because the first invaders we captured said goblins and orcs look nothing like the Greenskins."

A different Private spoke up, "Hopefully we won't run into any-"

"OI! OI! OI!" Sgt Kurata interrupted with peeved expression, "Don't you finish that sentence, private! You'll jinx us!"

"You believe the Murphy's Laws, sergeant?" Itami inquired with an eyebrow raise while leaning back against his seat for back support.

"Eh hai. Who doesn't, sir?" Sgt Kurata replied, "Everybody know or at least, should know better than to tempt kar- BRACE YOURSELF!" The driver suddenly yelled with his foot slamming against the brake when out of nowhere, a wall erupted right front of the JSDF team!

The earthly wall popped out so unexpectedly that unfortunately, the vehicle didn't slow down enough to avoid crashing straight into the wall. As a result, everybody including Lt Itami got injured from the impact with those sitting in the back falling off their seat. The second and third vehicles came to half with latter one stopping a foot away from the first vehicle.

Groaning, Itami grabbed his neck and head to evaluate his injury. Good thing he has helmet on, otherwise his injury would've include fractured skull or something. Hearing groaning, he look to his right to see Sgt Kurata rubbing his head, wincing.

"Any broken bone?"

"Hng, not sure. Think so. My-"

"AM- GUAHH!" The gunner, Private Sasagawa could be heard screaming in agony with the vehicle's gun going off before stopping.

They're being attacked! They're being attacked!

Before Itami could grab a radio and report being attacked, an arrow came through the window and went into the radio before bursting into flame.

Damn! Incendiary!

"Grab your weapon!" Itami ordered as he pushed himself to grab his rifle before pushing the door open to avoid getting burned. Stumbling off the vehicle only to fall on his knees as he yelled out an order at squad mates at other vehicles to radio for help. Itami heard strange whistling sound and before he knew it, an arrow landed right in front of him. Lighting up.

Lt Itami's training kicked in as he rolled side way to avoid more arrows landing where he was at. Lifting his rifle, the lieutenant heard battle cry and saw several humanoids appearing, engaging the JSDF personnel in close combat. Wearing brown and black color theme with minor green.

Spotting a wolf man armed with a club charging toward him, Itami pointed his gun and pulled a trigger to fire a 7.62mm round at him. But the wolf man, like the first invaders, demonstrated inhumane speed by bursting in zigzag pattern. Avoiding the bullet Itami has just fired.

Itami wasted no time firing again and managed to get the wolf man in chest and abdomen, causing him to collapse heavily followed by rolling until stopping few meters from the vehicle.

Turning around, Itami spotted another attacker, a masked man with pointy ears brandishing a bow with arrow already flying. Itami barely dodged it as he countered with a burst of 7.62mm rounds that went into the masked elf's torso while rolling over to avoid another arrow.

Thud!

Itami heard someone landed on the vehicle. Reacting, he turned around to see a masked person with long black pony tail throwing a knife.

Itami ducked down as more bullets left his gun. The masked woman has already came down and used her spear-ax weapon to shift Itami's gun upward before following up with a swing from other end.

"Oft!" Itami grunted as the woman's weapon rammed to his side with its blunt end. He shifted his gun's barrel away from the staff to execute rifle bash. His movement came sluggish and the woman parried before pressing forward to knee him in the same side.

Adjusting his stance, Itami's right hand let go of rifle to punch her gut. As a reward, Itami received a kick to his knee. As injured as he was from the vehicle crash, Itami managed to hold on his own in close combat against the masked woman who moved fast as her stick with spear-ax end attacked all over. Not as fast as the wolf man, she's more on Olympic athlete speed.

Itami tried to deflect with his rifle and could only get few burst fires out, all missing with the damn weapon of her re-directing his aim. He forgot what's that thing called but it look like an European medieval weapon. He could barely get a distance away from the masked woman but she maintained close distance to keep re-directing his rifle's barrel. Also moving around to keep him close to the vehicle, limiting his option of which direction to move. Taking a risky move, Itami threw his rifle up in air that briefly drew the woman's attention, surprising her by getting close and personal.

By getting close and personal, Itami went in to place his right hand on weapon to stop it from moving and left hand on the woman's right hand. Wrestling, Itami lunged forward to knee her abdomen before shifting around to throw the weapon away before grabbing her by sides. Yelling, Itami lifted the woman up before slamming her back against the vehicle.

Feeling pain in his rib, Itami involuntarily let go of woman who managed to endure the slam despite her slender body. Is she even a human or unknown humanoid race? Itami doesn't see pointy ear, fur, or anything noticeable about her. He could see her red eyes, reminding him of humanoid creatures feasting on blood and have red eyes in manga. Is she a vampire or something?

Can't be, the sun is still up. Unless Special Region vampires follow different rules.

Not important, he'll figure out later. Whatever she is, she is deceivingly stronger than her slender body suggested.

Retaliating, the woman grabbed his head before slamming his face against the vehicle.

Dazed, Itami did a hard shove, pushing his attacker away to create a distance. With his hand on the vehicle for support, Itami got up to see a masked man appearing from his left, tackling him just as he pulled a pistol out.

Fortunately, Itami has his grip on his pistol so he didn't lose it. Grunting, Itami elbowed downward on the man's collarbone before pushing him down. Stumbling away, Itami fired his pistol several times at the man whose body jolted with several holes appearing in his back and head.

Itami felt something hit his back and reached out to pull a knife out of his lower back. Good thing it hit bottom part of his body armor. Sluggishly turning around, Itami saw the same masked woman charging with her recovered spear-ax weapon.

She need to go down so he can help his squad mates to fight off the ambush. Itami heard rumbling sound coming from behind the third vehicle, briefing spotting another wall.

Incoming attack!

Itami quickly raised his pistol, aiming at the masked woman. But something abruptly wrapped around his pistol hand.

A whip?

Before he could react and a shot went upward, Itami found himself flying into air away from the vehicle, spinning before landing hard on the ground. Groaning, Itami tried to recover before spotting Private Sasagawa and understood the cause of his agonizing scream.

The designated gunner got impaled by a spear, lifelessly leaning against the machine gun. Bleeding with eyes wide open. Private Sasagawa...The Third Recon Team have suffered its first casualty.

Itami's sight of dead private was blocked by a masked woman standing over him with a pair of cold red eyes. Reacting, Itami tried to lift his hand but his shoulder got dislocated from the sudden pull. Realizing he won't be able to shoot her, Itami settle for glaring.

Unaffected, the red eyes masked woman lifted her boot backward before kicking Itami's head. Sending him into a world of unconsciousness as the sound of fighting and shooting faded.

Flashback ended…

He remembered now. Lt Itami and his team were ambushed with their route forward and backward cut off by some walls as the attackers charged from the trees to force them to engage in close range while the archers must've been on suppressing duty.

"You…!" Itami began but got slapped by one of two guards barking in Common.

"Silent, Ameereekan!"

"I'm getting real tired of being called American!" Itami thought with annoyance before adjusting his expression into neutral.

The Viking man wore amused look, commenting something Itami couldn't interpret. The red woman nodded, replying at low volume. She made a head gesture at the guards who dragged Itami toward a wooden chair before forcing him to sit on.

"Ever heard of humane treatment?" Itami asked rhetorically in Japanese. Great, these jerks are going to question him in his underwear. Shit, it hasn't been a day away from the base and he along with his remaining squad mates (he hope no one else die) got ambushed on dirt road in the middle of woods.

With the guards moving away to take position at the doors, the red eye emotionless woman grabbed a nearby chair before dragging it close to Itami. Creating grinding noise as the chair's legs scrapped along the floor.

Sitting on the chair, the red eye woman opened her mouth but Itami beat her by stating, "My surname is Itami. My nationality is Japanese. I am the lieutenant of the Japanese Self Defense Force." He then repeated in English.

"My last name is Itami. My nationality is Japanese. I am the lieutenant of the Japanese Self Defense Force." Itami didn't bother giving his serial number per Geneva Article regarding the captured personnel because it wouldn't affect anything since it has been determined the Special Region is set in medieval time and most likely not familiar with personnel or serial numbers and the Special Region (being in different world) is obviously not a signatory.

Saved for the "allegedly" American occupation force. Hence the reason for the Command to remind its personnel prior to expedition that in event of becoming a captive, they are to give surname, rank, and affiliation. Even if they have been being captured by the Special Region locals as unlikely as that sound. It has been assumed locals may not have similar convention or ruling like the Geneva Convention and may utilize various forms of tortures. Even the Geneva Convention doesn't exist in the Special Region, the nations want their personnel to give basic information and nothing else.

But here he is. Captured by the locals who have proven to know or at least aware of guerrilla tactic that is being trap, cut off exit, cause chaos, and attack. And are very much likely to torture him.

Also, did anybody of Third Recon Team call for help prior to getting captured? Itami has just remembered and didn't have a chance because the radio didn't work. No thanks to incendiary arrow.

After about five minute of what it seem to be an awkward staring contest or maybe longer with the emotionless woman and no one saying anything or making sound other than the Viking man scratching his armpit, Itami spoke in English, "Alright, I should also mention that I am not fluent in the Common Language so...if you know English, speak it. Also I'm Japanese, not American."

Or preferably speak Japanese language but Itami doubt they know it.

Without a warning, the red eye woman leaned forward and backhand slapped his face. Ok, what the hell? At least ask question first before hitting him!

In strangely mature voice that doesn't match her face, the red eyes woman spoke in English albeit better than Itami thought, "You need to shut up and wait to be asked. Say anything not relevant to my questions-" The woman slapped his face again, "I hit you. Insult me-"

Another slap.

"I hit you. Not answering-"

Another slap.

"I hit you. Interrupt me-"

"Okay! I know! You hit-!" Itami's face turned from another slap. She has yet to ask question so why is she slapping him for no reason?

"I hit you." The red eyes woman finished without pausing.

What is wrong with this woman? Her expression hasn't change a bit, still stoic.

"How did you Ameereekans get this far without us noticing?"

"I'm not Amer-"

SLAP!

"That's not answering my question."

Itami shot her a "Are you serious?" look before responding, "My last name is Itami-"

SLAP!

"Still not answering my question."

"Well, you suck at asking question." Itami thought, feeling stinging sensation on his left cheek.

"Tell me, how did you get this far east in Falmart?"

Falmart? Itami filed that word away in his mind before receiving another slap.

"Oi, at least wait for me to answer." Itami hissed in Japanese.

SLAP!

Damn, his cheek must be crying in red. Itami couldn't tell since there's no mirror in the room.

Later…

After enduring a pointless session of face-slapping from crappy red eyes interrogator who completely has no idea how to ask or interrogate properly, Itami felt like breaking out of his restraint to throw some hands to see how the red eyes woman like being slapped. Although he is highly trained soldier and capable of enduring adverse conditions, his patience and tolerance have really been tested by nothing but slapping.

He was expecting to be tortured by electrocution, stabbing, limb dismemberment, punching, drowning, drug, and stuffs. But so far, he has received nothing but slaps from an imbecile who obviously need a proper education on how to interrogate or better yet, fuck off.

Throw in hunger and thirst along with memory of Private Sasagawa's death in unprovoked attack on a JSDF group, Itami's normally calm (albeit laid back) attitude boiled.

"Stop...Slapping...My...Face..." Itami seethed in English before roaring, "YOU BAKAAAAA!" His chair jolted violently.

The red eyes woman instantly stood up with her hand tensed for another slap when the Viking man called her after taking a bite of his dinner, saying something in Common. When the woman didn't answer, the Viking man persisted.

Causing the woman to silently nod her head back walking out without saying anything as if she's just going out for 15 minutes break.

The chair in front of Itami is now being sat by the Viking man who spoke in broken English, "You must forgive her. She not have good day."

"That's on her for attacking us unprovoked."

"Unnn-prooo-vooo-ked?" The Viking man snorted, "HA! You Ameereekans trash-passing our land." He butchered the pronunciation of trespassing.

"I'm...getting...sick and tired of...being called...American." Itami glared at burly man, "I don't know how...many times I have to tell you...I...am...NOT Ameereekan! I AM JAPANESE!"

The man snorted, "So you say...Well Jap-pa-nees, let talk." With a hearty slap against his lap, the Viking man went, "Before we talk, I show you thing first."

The burly ginger man got up to walk toward a wooden container, making loud rattling noise before pulling out something Itami recognized.

A JSDF tactical chest armor.

Dangling in front of the prisoner's face, the Viking man remarked, grinning with his thick hand gesturing camouflage pattern, "Interesting pattern. And green. Ameereekans love green." He made it look like he's presenting a new discovery.

"Are...you...kidding me." Itami muttered heatedly. Why why and why are these people are still insisting call him and his countrymen "Ameereekans"? They look nothing like Americans! Yeah sure, there's people of Asian descent serving in US military, Itami know that. But they make up small percentage! Don't get him started on the JSDF and US military uniforms!

"No, I not kidding you." The Viking man's grin turned into a frown, "Tell me. What this symbol? Elite killer? Assassin?" His thick index finger pointed at white square with red dot in center.

"That is Japanese flag. As in flag of Japan." Itami growled, "Which is...an entirely different country! Not America! Not USA! But a...different...nation!" Damn, he has never been angry this long before.

"...That be a flag?" The Viking man sound doubtful before sporting a thoughtful look, commenting in Common before speaking English, "If not Ameereekans but Jappanees...Why you trash-passing our land? How you this far from the west with no spot you?"

Itami glared at the Viking man out of frustration, anger, and incredulity. He truly wished that damn Gate has never showed up in Japan or anywhere on Earth.

"Because you attacked us! Unprovoked...Baka."

"Ah!" The Viking man suddenly wore a triumphant look of understanding, "You be from the east Gate. Yes, must be! But your face be nasty, I not like that." He set the armor on the table before standing behind Itami.

"Bad fortune on you, Jappaneese. I be now asking. Do scream 'Baka'. Baaaakaaa! I like that, what 'Baka' mean?"

Itami felt two heavy hands landing on his shoulders as the voice now closer to his ears. Now sounding heavier and sinister.

"And you Jappanees kill our people. A lot of our people. The Gate and the wood. Many friends dead. I...not like that too."

Itami felt his shoulder bones being gripped.

"Here it comes." Lt Itami Yoji thought as he embraced himself.

A/N: Here we go. The Third Recon Team got captured. Yes, people in eastern Falmart do not like Americans (from Fallout) very much that they would ambush and capture Americans for information and/or supplies and weapons. That is if they see easy or soft target say three simple looking Humvees carrying 12 'Americans' (Itami's team) vs a battalion of heavy armed Americans including robots.

Thanks to the USAF and how they enforce their authority, the Falmartians learned. Well most of them. Example: Engaging the USAF out on open field with army marching nice and neat formation is paramount to senseless suicide and stupidity. They would have better chance of hurting the USAF by setting traps and ambushing from hiding spots. Forced to adapt new way of fighting and how they approach their enemies such as attacking from multiple directions instead of one direction.

Yes, the walls were caused by magic. Several mages managed to escape from Rondel into eastern Falmart. Unlike in Gate canon, Itami's team didn't engage mostly human enemies (with few non-humans and beasts). Itami's team engaged mostly beastkins, elves, and few humans.

Some humanoid races like beastkin (I'm going to say beastkin, more common term) can move faster and lift more than humans could dream of. You know, superhuman feats. Refer to Delilah vs Akira fight. Think elves have greater strength with how that one Dark Elf fired missile launcher without acknowledging recoil.

Also, I forgot to warn you about few certain Falmart natives being AU. Sorry...Referred to chapter one about the so-called "gods". Part of consequences of interfering other world such as Fallout Earth's pre-determined fate.

Edited to clarify: Military from Earth know the Geneva Conventions don't exist in the Special Region and don't apply but encourage its personnel to follow Article 17 as to control what they can say (or should say) in event of being captured by supposedly Americans (Fallout, pretty bold to assume Geneva Convention still exist or even still being followed in Fallout pre-war world) or Falmartians.

That say in aftermath of the First and Second Invasions of Ginza and the Special Region Expedition, there's a bunch of arguments on how to apply international laws to land that exist in different dimension and how much the military and civilians are expected to follow when in different world, whether to adjust/update the Geneva and other conventions to include different dimension and time travel in addition to space, how to treat people existing in different dimension, and a whole bunch of boring stuffs.

Some may disagree and some may agree about Geneva Conventions' applicability or parts of Geneva/other existing conventions and we all have our own interpretation. Example: In canon, JSDF used napalm on Zorzai's camp. Some of us may say "No problem, it's military target. Prefectly fine!" or "WTF JSDF is way too aggressive, yo! We need to add more leashes and take napalm away!". But what if JSDF or any military use napalm on Special Region civilians or military target that is in civilian setting? How severe the punishment will be upon those who directly involved in deployment of napalm? Would you say "Bad JSDF/military!" or "Eh, those civilians aren't part of my country/planet so who give a shit"?

Also, how would you classify the conflict between different worlds? Conflict between planets (Earth and whatever planet the Special Region is on)? Keep treating space as international open water?
