A black-haired male teen with a magenta streak on the left side of his hair named Lie Ren was asleep in his bed. His rest was soon interrupted when a fair-skinned orange-haired female teen suddenly appeared and woke him up.
"Wake up, lazy butt!"
Ren gets up with a groan as the girl, Nora Valkyrie, began hounding him.
"It's morning! It's morning! It's morning! It's morning!"
Lie Ren sighs again and the scene changes to him brushing his teeth in the restroom while Nora continues to talk.
"I can't believe we've been at Beacon for a full twenty-four hours! Not that I thought we'd get kicked out or anything, I mean, you're the perfect student and I'm... well, I'm me! But it's just crazy, you know?
Ren says nothing and allows his friend to ramble on. Why is he so patient with her you may ask? Well, they grew up together and Ren has built up a tolerance to Nora's eccentricity.
The scene changes to the ballroom, where the two are readying themselves. Nora is brushing her hair and still chattering while Ren is tightening the strings on his sleeping bag.
"We've been friends for soooo long! What are the odds we'd still be together? Well, not "together-together...Not that I'm not saying that you're not handsome; you are handsome, but that'd just be weird, right?"
The scene changes again as the two are in the middle of eating their breakfast, Nora having a pancake hanging from her mouth as she is still talking.
"Right! What was I thinking? But still, I hope we end up on the same team together!" Nora stopped to slurp up the pancake in her mouth before continuing. "Oohhhh! We should come up with some sort of plan, to make sure we end up on the same team together! What if we bribe the headmaster? No, that won't work. He has the school."
The scene changes again as the two are readying themselves in the locker room, Ren loading his Submachine Gun Daggers known as StormFlower and Nora was still talking.
"I know! We'll have some sort of signal! Like a distress signal!" She gasps. "A secret signal so we can find each other in the forest! Can you imitate a sloth?"
"Nora?" Ren finally replies.
"Yes, Ren?" Nora says.
"I don't think sloths make a lot of noise," Ren says while sheathing his weapons in his sleeves.
Nora thinks about this for a moment before grinning. "That's why it's perfect! No one will suspect we're working together!"
"Come on Nora, let's go," Ren says smiling after closing his locker.
"Not "together-together..." Nora giggles
Ren heads out while a skipping Nora follows, passing Ruby Rose, Yang Xiao Long, and Team Infinity as they are busy readying themselves.
"Goddamn, can that girl talk!" Kamikaze says exasperated.
"No kidding, I thought she'd never stop talking!" Ben said. "Does she even breathe?!"
"Nora is a motormouth that's for sure." Kamikaze quips.
"Wonder what those two are so worked up about?" Ruby asks.
"Oh, who knows? So, you seem awfully chipper this morning!" Yang replied.
"Yep! No more awkward small talk or "getting-to-know-you" stuff." Today, I get to let my sweetheart do the talking." Ruby strokes Crescent Rose as she sighs happily.
"Why are you handling your weapon like a baby?" Ollie asks curiously.
"Well yeah, Crescent Rose IS my baby," Ruby replied.
"Isn't that kind of weird?" Momonga said.
"I see nothing wrong with it," Ruby replied.
"Don't you treat your weapons like your kids Momonga?" Ben asks.
"No, I don't," Momonga said flatly.
"Now THAT is weird," Ben commented.
"Please grow up Ben, weapons are tools sure you must care for them and use them responsibly but that doesn't change the fact that they are tools," Momonga explained.
"That's harsh," Ruby said.
"Don't you worry about Momonga he just doesn't get it?" Ben said while hugging his chainsword. "I'll never let you go, we still have so many skulls to collect for Papa Khorne..."
Momonga simply rolled his eyes.
"Anyways just remember, Ruby, you're not the only one going through initiation. If you wanna grow up, you're gonna have to meet new people and learn to work together." Yang said.
Ruby sighs in frustration as she shoves her weapon into her locker. "You sound like Dad! Okay, first of all: What does meeting new people have to do with fighting? And secondly: I don't need people to help me grow up! I drink milk!"
"I like milk too!" Ollie says excitedly.
"Ruby, Ollie, that's not the kind of growth Yang was referring to," Alma said.
"Oh."
"But what about when we form teams?" Yang said.
"Um, I don't know, I... I'll just be on your team or something…" Ruby replies suddenly nervous.
"Maybe you should try being on someone else's team?" Yang said, bringing her sister to her side and rubbing her head.
"My dear sister Yang, are you implying that you do not wish to be on the same team as me?" Ruby asked with her eyes narrowed.
"What?" "No!" "Of course I do! I just thought... I don't know, maybe it would help you... break out of your shell!" Yang explained nervously.
"What the-?! I don't need to break out of my shell! That's absolutely-" Ruby said.
"Ridiculous!" Jaune said, coming out of nowhere while looking lost. "There's no way I put my gear in locker 636 yesterday! I would've remembered having to count that high! Why does this have to happen today? "
"I don't envy Jaune right now." Ben quipped looking at the blonde teen trying and failing to find his correct locker.
"Times like this make me wonder how Jaune got accepted into Beacon," Arcee said.
"I think I know, but that would be telling."
Jaune passed Weiss and Pyrrha as they prepared themselves at their lockers.
"So, Pyrrha, have you given any thought to whose team you'd like to be on? I'm sure everyone must be eager to unite with such a strong, well-known individual such as yourself!" Weiss said.
"Hmm... I'm not quite sure. I was planning on letting the chips fall where they may." Pyrrha replied truthfully.
"Well... I was thinking maybe we could be on a team together." Weiss suggested.
"Well, that sounds grand!" Pyrrha said happily.
"Great!" Weiss declared.
"What are you scheming about Ice Queen?" Arcee said as she walked up to the pair with Alma and Yuki.
"Scheming!-I mean what is going on between Pyrrha and I is none of your business," Weiss said.
"She's definitely scheming," Alma said as Weiss growled.
"Are you acquaintances of Weiss?" Pyrrha asked Arcee.
"Sort of, we just had a couple of run-ins with her," Arcee explained.
"Oh," Pyrrha replied. "I'm Pyrrha Nikos by the way, nice to meet you."
"I'm Arcelia Ka but you can just call me Arcee," Arcee said.
"I'm Alma Nevers," Alma said.
"I'm Yuki Kaze or Yu Kaze." Yuki said.
They were interrupted by Jaune Arc who sauntered up to them.
"What's cracking ladies?" He said trying to sound cool (and failing miserably).
"You again…." Weiss groaned as she was irritated by Jaune's mere presence.
"The name is Jaune Arc by the way, nice to meet you." Jaune introduced himself to Pyrrha.
"Nice to meet you, Jaune!" Pyrrha said enthusiastically.
"Yeah, yeah," Jaune said in a lackadaisical manner and pushed past Pyrrha and posed next to Weiss. His actions annoyed Arcee who put her hands on her hips.
"So, Weiss, couldn't help but overhear your fondness of me the other day," Jaune said, ignoring Pyrrha, Arcee, Alma, and Yuki.
"Ahem!" Arcee cleared her throat to get Jaune's attention.
"Huh?" Jaune asked.
"Aren't you forgetting someone?" Arcee asked, tapping her foot with her hands on her hips.
"Um…Nooo, I think?" Jaune said.
"Well, allow me to enlighten you," Arcee said. "In your rush to score points with Ice Queen over there, you interrupted our conversation and brushed off Pyrrha when she tried to introduce herself to you."
"So please be more observant and polite." Arcee finished.
"Ehhh? Well, I'm sorry about that…." Jaune apologized, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.
Pyrrha was surprised that Arcee stood up for her.
"Thanks, Arcee." She said in gratitude as Arcee merely gave a thumbs-up.
"No problem."
"I don't think that is a sufficient apology!" Weiss chimed in.
"What's your deal! He said sorry!" Alma defended Jaune.
Weiss ignored her and placed herself between Jaune and Pyrrha.
"Do you have any idea who you're talking to?" Weiss asked while gesturing at Pyrrha.
"Not in the slightest, snow angel," Jaune replied.
"This is Pyrrha," Weiss said.
"Hello again!" Pyrrha chirped.
"Pyrrha graduated top of her class at Sanctum!" Weiss explained.
"That's impressive," Alma commented.
"Yeah, Pyrrha was a combat genius in my world," Arcee said.
"Never heard of it," Jaune said.
Weiss scoffs "She's won the Mistral Region Tournaments four years in a row! A new record!"
"That's quite an achievement," Yuki said.
"She was the best in my class after all," Arcee said, remembering her homeworld.
"The what?" A now thoroughly confused Jaune asks.
Weiss gets angry and starts waving her arms rapidly. "She's on the front of every Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes box!"
Jaune gasps suddenly as he finally recognizes Pyrrha. "That's you?! But they only do that for star athletes and cartoon characters!"
"So he only recognizes Pyrrha because she was on a cereal box?!" Alma said, shocked.
"That's Jaune for you," Arcee said, a smirk on her face with her arms folded.
"Yeah, it was pretty cool. Sadly, the cereal isn't very good for you." Pyrhha admitted.
"So, after hearing all of this, do you really think you're in a position to ask her to be on your team?" Weiss says pointedly.
"I guess not... Sorry…" Jaune said dejectedly and hung his head."
"Listen here Ice Princess, Jaune may not look like much and he may be bad at speaking to girls but he has more potential for being a good leader than you," Yuki said.
Weiss was shocked and enraged at Yuki's declaration while Alma and Arcee smirked and Pyrrha was neutral.
"You really think so?" Jaune asks.
"Yeah if you just focus more, I'm positive that you'll be a great leader!" Yuki said, smiling.
Jaune's face reddened but before more could be said, an announcement played on the intercom system.
"Would all first-year students please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation? Again, all first-year students report to Beacon Cliff immediately." Glynda's voice spoke.
Weiss leaves, refusing to look at Arcee, Alma, Yuki, and Jaune. Pyrrha follows her and waves goodbye to the group.
"It was nice meeting you!" Pyrrha said.
"Likewise," Arcee said.
"Now ladies and one dude, let's get out of here," Arcee said.
The scene opens to the Beacon Cliff, overlooking a forest, where several students: some old, some new, and some unseen, are standing on silver tiles in front of a mug-holding Professor Ozpin and Glynda with her tablet.
"For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest," Ozpin said.
"Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of "teams." "Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. "Each of you will be given teammates, today."
"What? Ohhh…" Ruby said.
"I totally called it!" Ren Smith said.
"No, you didn't," Momonga said.
"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well." Ozpin explained as Ruby groaned.
"Don't worry Ruby, I have faith that you will find the right person." Travis assured Ruby.
"That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years." Ozpin continued.
"Whaaaat?!" A shocked Ruby exclaims.
"See? I told you-!" Nora told Lie Ren.
"Now she's being honest," Momonga observed.
"Whatever killjoy." Ren Smith sniped at Momonga.
"After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path... or you will die." Ozpin says ominously.
"I doubt any of us are croaking anytime soon," Ben said. "And even if I do die, Grandpapa Nurgz has got me covered."
"Right on!" Kamikaze said.
Jaune laughs nervously and then gulps loudly as Ozpin continues.
"You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?"
Jaune raises his hand. "Yeah, um, sir?"
"Good! Now, take your positions." Ozpin says ignoring Jaune.
Everyone strikes a pose on their tile. Nora crouches low, Ren wields his weapons, Yang raises her fists, Ruby readies her body, Kamikaze smashes his fist into his palm, Ben grins maniacally, Drake focuses himself, Travis flexes, Arcee took a deep breath, Alma hums and Jaune is still raising his hand.
"Uh, sir? I've got, um... a question. So, this landing... strategy thing…Uh, wha-what is it? You're, like, dropping us off or something?" Jaune nervously asks.
"No. You will be falling." Ozpin simply said.
Jaune misses more students being thrown. "Oh, uh, I see... So, like, did you hand out parachutes for us?"
"No. You will be using your own "landing strategy." Ozpin simply says.
Jaune continues to be unaware, not noticing an excited Nora and Lie Ren getting launched.
"Uh-huh... Yeah."
At her turn, Yang winks at her younger sister, puts on a pair of aviators, and flies off with a "Woo-hoooooooo!" a second before Ruby joins her.
Kamikaze does a Superman pose before being launched, Ben yells "I KNOW WHERE WE'RE DROPPING TODAY, BOYS!", Travis is launched afterward followed by Drake, Arcee, Alma, Momonga, Ren Smith, Yuki, Toshi, and finally Ollie.
"So, what exactly is a landing strateg-YYY!" Jaune asks before being unceremoniously cut off by being launched screaming.
Ozpin, for his part, simply takes a sip of his drink.
"This is shaping up to be an interesting year..."
