Mr. Paolini, it is time to screw your world a new one. If you want to know how that feels, ask J.K. she has experienced it a lot. Don't worry though, we do this for free… I am anyway.
Previous:
Parvati brought everyone back, accompanied by Brom, Ajihad, the council, and a delegation of dwarves. Last, there were three elves that came along. I guess the female is Aria… she is a looker alright. Easily a twelve on a scale of ten. My wives hurried to me for a kiss and stood behind me to back me up. It was an imposing sight, me sitting on the throne with a busload of wives behind me.
Alright, let's put the Varden in their place.
10. Dividing the pie.
Curious I observed Brom, his face showed complicated emotions, mostly annoyance, to be forced to deal with me in a weak position is grating his nerves.
I grinned at him and said: "Well, old man? Introduce your friends or do I have to guess? Wait, wait, let me try it. The black man is Ajihad with his council, the dwarf with the high-end gear is Orik with his guards, the beautiful she-elf is Aria, hello by the way, with her escort. Am I wrong?"
Luna whispered in my ear: "Be nice husband, we can play Punish-the-Tyrant again tonight if you want."
I swallowed, two nights in a row is overkill. I better stop ruffling their feathers and play the good conqueror: "Stand back please, I will make this place a bit more comfortable. Dears, a little help?"
We conjured a big conference table with several comfy chairs around it. Fiona and Lineria were having fun with the wizarding magic and conjured vases with flowers. They were still amazed about how the flowers are alive and yet not really.
Dobby and Winky served tea and cookies for everyone, once everyone sat down and had some tea, I started the negotiations. We were already in the lead, and with our show of magic, their position was weakened even more.
Brom introduced everyone to us: "As you already guessed, this is Ajihad and his daughter Nasuada, Jormundur, Umérth, Falberd, Sabrae, and Elssari, the Council of Elders of the Varden.
Representing Hrothgar, the king of the dwarfs is his nephew Orik with his guards. And last but not least the ambassador of the Elves at the dwarves Aria."
I can top that! I wanted to start introducing us when I felt Daphne's hand on my shoulder to stop me. She said: "Well met everyone. On our side is our husband Lord Harry Potter, We are his wives, Daphne, Tracey, Luna, Fleur, Flora, Fauna, Padma, Parvati, Belladonna, Ginny, Katie, Milli, and Pansy. We came from another world.
In this world we got more sister wives, these are Ophelia, Lenora, Miramar, Fiona, Lineria, and Imira. Also part of our family are Dobby and Winky, you will meet them later."
Wow, that was some introduction, it is my turn now.
"Well everyone, as you know, Galbatorix and Shruikan are dead, so are the Ra'zac and a Shade. Dras Leonas was the first city to bend the knee, and today several will follow. I estimate one more week and everything will be under our control. Now, what are we going to do with Surda and the Varden?"
Brom started: "The Varden will take control of the country and we will select a new king. Surda always helped us so they will get some lands and stay sovereign from us."
I shook my head: "Really Brom? Do you think it will be that easy? You all come here and expect to get a kingdom thrown into your lap? What did the Varden do to deserve it? You had some merits with killing the oath breakers, but the others? What did the rest do other than some sabotage actions that did not even anger Galbatorix?
Who among you is fit to rule this country? Is it you Ajihad? What will you do when your tribe comes to challenge your rule? Or you Brom? Another immortal on the throne? What about the nobles that are currently in power and actually are good people? You barge in and kick them out?"
Ajihad had a complicated look on his face when he said: "We fought Galbatorix for a hundred years and suffered badly because of it. We deserve the right to rule this country, as you said, you are not from this world. We have more right for it."
I shrugged: "True, but Ophelia, Lenora, Miramar, Fiona, Lineria, and Imira are from this world, maybe they deserve it more? After all, they are my wives, and I killed the king and his dragon. Yes, you suffered, but so did plenty of small folks in this country. Suffering is not a reason to get lands and titles. What else can you come up with?"
Orik intervened: "Tell us first what your plans are, so we can come to a compromise."
I nodded at Orik, I would make him king of this country if he was a few feet taller: "Finally some smart reasoning. To be honest, we don't want this country at all. There are empty lands in the east that are uninhabited, we will claim them for my people. We only want a stable neighbor, so it is in my best interest to get a good king on the throne instead of some rebel leader with no experience in ruling."
Orik looked thoughtful and said: "Any king you put on the throne will be inexperienced, or you have to put the king of Surda in charge. How do you see a solution?"
Imira said: "We talked about it among us, the next king will have a council, with the current nobles that are not corrupted, a delegation of experienced elves and dwarves will aid them in ruling the country.
Another option is to select a ruler for ten years, after ten years another one will rule, we will have elections to select one. It is a common practice in Lord Potter's world. That way will prevent issues like with the crazy king. Or, the way of the Elves or Dwarves selects their rulers is an option too."
Ajihad and Brom had a hard time keeping calm, this was not going to end in their favor, Brom expected to take control of the situation, and got his face rubbed in the dirt by me. Ajihad was already dreaming of being the next dynasty, just to see those dreams shattered.
Ajihad finally said: "I am applying to be a candidate for the next king."
That is a start, Daphne said: "We secure the country first, Surda needs to be included in the kingdom to avoid later conflicts. That king will keep his lands but will be demoted to a duke, he can put himself on the list for the selection."
Brom was not happy: "Those are decisions for us to take boy, you are an outsider after all."
I shot back: "Neither are they yours, old man! Your job is to train the new dragon riders, and I am starting to be afraid for their future right now. Old age does not guarantee wisdom Brom, you are just experiencing some sour grapes because I am the one that killed the king, while you were powerless to do so.
Even now you need me to take control of the country. Without us, it will take months to walk your army to the cities and it will take a lot of causalities to do so."
Dathedr interrupted our bickering: "Brom, Lord Potter has a point. He alone with his wives killed Galbatorix. We helped him to capture Dras Leonas, but he could do that alone too if he wanted. Even now we need him to take the cities before they separate into small enclaves.
Coming here and demanding the country for yourselves is unreasonable. Help us take control and we will talk about it later, let's face it Brom, we need Lord Potter, but he does not necessarily need us."
Aria: "Brom, we have to trust Lord Potter and his wives for now. They just claimed the lands east from here and said having no interest in ruling Alegeasia. Whatever grudges you both have at each other must be put aside for now. We need to secure the land and need their help to do so."
I smiled at her: "Well princess, I have a small task for you, I want you to meet your new lifelong companion, Fiona and Lineria will lead you to him."
Aria frowned: "I am already in a relationship with Faolin Lord Potter, I don't need a new companion."
I grinned at her: "Oh, I think he won't mind sharing him with you, as a matter of fact, he will be fully supporting your relationship. Faolin, you can go with Aria to meet him, you will understand when you see him."
Curious, Aria and Faolin followed Fiona. At the puzzled gazes of everyone I said: "She is destined for the green egg and will be the third rider."
Brom shouted: "You found the second rider already? Who is it?"
Luna answered: "It is Murtagh, Eragon's half-brother. He bonded with the red egg a few hours before we killed Galbatorix."
Ajihad exploded in fury: "How can you allow the son of Morzan to be a dragon rider? That is an insult to all the sacrifices we all made the last hundred years!"
Daphne answered: "You just gave us the reason to refuse you the crown. You are too small-minded. Criminals can have good offspring, while good people can have criminal kids too. You judge on the count of the reputation of the parents instead of the person himself.
Murtagh suffered abuse from his father and has no love or good memories of him. That you suffered for a hundred years is irrelevant. According to your reasoning, Eragon would be unfit too, his mother was a top assassin for Galbatorix.
Most of all, our actions are our own. We do what we feel is needed, so if you give us some aid, then we allow you to have a slice of the pie called Alagaesia."
Orik asked: "How do you know what is needed or not? You said it yourself that you came from another world, so in fact, you would be ignorant of the situation. For example, how do you know Aria is destined for the green egg? Or that Murtagh for the red one? Even knowing he is Morzan's son?"
I motioned at Daphne to continue, she and Fleur are the most strategic of the wives, bar Imira of course, her being over a thousand years old.
Daphne answered: "Lord Potter came into a legacy from his ancestors. Those ancestors made a deal with our God of Death for some powerful artifacts a thousand years ago. When our husband collected all three and combined them it triggered his heritage, and revealed the portal to this world.
The knowledge from this world is something the gods of the elves are responsible for. They inspired a young man to write books about this world, which became very popular in our world. The grays left us a task when we discovered the portal with the blue egg next to it, and it is to solve the problems in this world with minimum causalities."
I took over: "The storyline goes like this: The blue egg was stolen by Brom and Jeod, Aria was transporting it from the dwarves to the elves and got ambushed by the shade and captured. She just had the time to magic the egg in Brom's direction where it landed at Eragon and hatched for him.
Brom, smart as he was, hid in Carvahall under his own name, so he was easier to find by his enemies. The Ra'zac found them and Eragon narrowly escaped, so they killed his uncle to trigger his wrath. Because of that, Eragon's cousin Roran led the village through the Spine to escape the soldiers. Brom in his infinite wisdom hides the fact he is Eragon's father and even refuses to teach him magic. On their journey they encounter Urgals and after making one mistake after another, Brom got killed, and Eragon met Murtagh who saved him.
Eragon freed Aria from her prison, she got poisoned by the shade, so with a bunch of Urgals on their tail, they ran to the dwarves. Because there is no control over the controllers, the twins were allowed by Ajihad to betray the Varden and the dwarves. The shade unified the Urgals and led them to an abandoned city of the dwarves and attacked Farthen Dur. They fought, Eragon with the help of Aria defeated the shade, destroying that beautiful red gem Isidar Mithrim because of it.
Ajihad got killed by the twins, Murtagh was kidnapped by them and Ajihad's daughter took leadership, she moved the Varden to Surda. Eragon, Aria, and Orik traveled to Ellesmera to be trained.
After a few months the fighting began, at the Burning Plains the first battle killed thousands, including Hrothgar, who was killed by Murtagh and his red dragon. Both were enslaved by Galbatorix who knew their true names.
A lot of small battles led Eragon to leave for Ellesmera to search for a new weapon and more guidance. Nasuada got kidnapped by Murtagh and tortured.
Eragon found some secrets that I can not reveal here and killed the mad king. The dead count probably reached over a hundred thousand humans, over ten thousand elves, and including the battle of Farthen Dur, over fifty thousand dwarves.
Aria bonded with her egg, Murtagh was broken inside and left, Eragon was the new leader of the riders because the old ones died in battle, and moved to the lands to the east.
This tale was told in four very thick books in my world. I read them a few times, and what do you know? I ended up in this world I read about. A few details changed, but I know enough to use it to my advantage."
When I stopped my tale it was dead silent for a minute. Finally, Orik spoke up: "Hrothgar died? All those battles? How much of this story would have happened?"
I shrugged: "I guess it was one of the possible futures that could happen. Any change will give a different outcome to the story, but the starting point is the same. Eragon in Carvahall with Brom, a Mad King, traitor twins with the Varden.
So Brom, do you understand now why I am so annoyed with you? You caused a lot of deaths in Carvahall. They were forced to flee through the Spine, a lot of elders and children died on the way. It was because of the leadership of Roran that many survived at all.
Not only did you use your own name, but you told the tale of the mad king when the merchants were in town, which alerted the Ra'zac."
Dathedr interrupted: "Lord Potter, it is getting late. If you want to head for some cities we need to leave now. We will think about your tale and discuss it tomorrow."
Orik nodded: "That is right, can someone transport me back to Farthen Dur to report to Hrothgar this is too big for me to decide."
Ajihad spoke up: "I am not certain how accurate your tale would be, but you have true knowledge of our world. Can you transport the council back to Farthen Dur too? They will notify our people of the news and prepare to move back to Alegeasia. I will stay here with Jormundur to talk with king Orrin of Surda."
Brom had a hard time digesting my tale. Knowing his world in detail raised the possibility of the rest being true too.
Xxxxx
Ginny left from Illirea with her Spitfire to Furnost, I ported to Dras Leona where Pansy flew to Bellatona and Feinster, after that we ported to Teirm where Milli flew to Kuasta. We took control of Teirm in less than an hour, appearing in the middle of the city taking them by surprise, while landing in dragon form before the governor and changing back into human scared the crap out of him. He already knew of Galbatorix dead and quickly surrendered to us.
A scan of his memory proved him capable to stay in charge and gave us a list of bad apples to eliminate.
At the end of the day, we controlled all the big cities of Alegeasia. Most nobles gave up at the sight of elves and dragons. Together with the news of Galbatorix's death broke their resistance. Most of the opposition came from nobles that abused their position and fought desperately or tried to make a run for it.
The day after we traveled to Aberon, a few miles out Pansy let us out of the manor trunk and stored her airplane. Brom, Ajihad, and Jormundur rode on horses to the city to talk to Orrin, five hours later we made a big entrance in dragon form.
A scared soldier fired a spear with the heavy scorpion at Padma, as a black dragon she was mistaken for Shruikan, with a simple spell the spear turned into a bunch of flowers. Soon more spears were launched at us, some were even spelled with magic to penetrate magic shields.
My voice sounded over the city: "Enough! If you don't stop now then we will retaliate and you won't like the outcome!"
That resulted in an increase of spears heading for us. One by one the spear crossbows were turned into snakes that attacked the soldiers manning them. The officers that were shouting commands turned into nice sheep. An hour later the resistance died out, the soldiers that witnessed the fate of their commanders dropped their weapons and surrendered.
Under cover of Ginny, Katie, and Fiona we transformed back into humans when we entered Orrin's palace. We eliminated everyone that resisted and entered the throne room. Orrin stood before his throne in full battle gear and a sword in his hand next to him his last generals and two magicians. Brom and Ajihad stood to the side and took a neutral stance.
Slowly I approached Orrin and asked: "Orrin? Did Brom and Ajihad not explain who or what I am? Do you really think you have a chance against us? This is your last chance, drop your weapon and surrender."
It must be hard to give up your power and step back, it was hard for Orrin, he raised his sword and desperately attacked me… a sheep later, the generals and magicians gave up and got on their knees.
I commented: "That was disappointing in so many ways. Did that idiot not listen to you or Ajihad Brom? Why still resisting? Now he even can not be a Duke anymore. Brom, explain why did he still resist? Me killing the mad king and conquering all off Alegeasia is not impressing enough for him?"
Brom shrugged: "We told him all that, but he refused to step down and swear fealty to you, he would rather die were his words."
I unsheeped Orrin and read his mind. He was not a bad ruler all considered, a bit out of it with his experiments but not evil or abusive. Until I saw what Brom and Ajihad told him about me. Those petty bastards were telling half truths about me, letting Orrin think he still has a chance with a surprise attack.
It looked to me like it was a ploy to get rid of Orrin and claim Surda for the Varden. Slowly I turned to Brom and Ajihad and said: "Ajihad, that is the second time you proved to me that you are not fit to rule. Brom, take this portkey to Ceunon and report to Oromis, he will decide what to do with you. I am not a mad king and neither am I a fool to be tricked. I am very disappointed with you both.
Now Orrin, what those fools failed to mention is the fact that even if you are demoted to a Duke, you would still be allowed to rule your region. Even better, you could even put yourself as a candidate to rule Alegeasia as the king. After going to your memories I noticed you have a strong interest in science which I greatly approve of. It means you want to improve the quality of life for your people.
Here is another chance to submit to me and stay in charge of Surda."
Orrin glared at Brom and Ajihad, angry to be used as a tool he said: "I will bend the knee King Potter, and accept to be a Duke of Surda."
"You are wrong Duke Orrin, I am not King Potter, I never claimed to be one either. All that we want is a stable Alagaesia and a sane ruler. I can tell you right now that those two will never be in charge."
After hearing me say this, Brom sighed in defeat and activated his portkey. He gambled and lost big time, maybe it was better to concentrate on raising the next dragon riders.
Ajihad felt his power slipping away from him he said to me: "All I did was for the good of the Varden. Where else can we go? Are we forced to beg for crumbs?"
I looked at him with pity: "Do you believe that bullshit yourself? This has nothing to do with the Varden, you just wanted Surda for yourself and Orrin was in the way. Now you decide Ajihad, are you going to be a thorn in our side or help to rebuild the country? Do not worry about the Varden anymore, they will not be forgotten, this is about you and your ambition."
Ajihad was cornered, forced to face his options in front of me, he secretly knew that he still was hoping to rule all of Alagaesia someday. Revealing that his plan crashed down on him, he knew that that ship had sailed.
Ajihad admitted defeat: "I will submit to any punishment or decision you put on me, I only ask to not include my daughter in it. She warned me of the outcome and called us fools to try it."
I asked Orrin: "Orrin, you are not married, how do you feel about Nasuada?"
