Author's note: Sup, brohas!
A simple drabble this time, just so I can unwind a bit, while still posting content. XP This one was highly requested, anyway, for some reason, so here you go!
This one's dedicated to ultimateCCC, QUEENSPELLER67 and Uranium235.
For more fics like this drabble, there's Shallow Waters by me, and Difference-Maker by VGS2 the sexy sausage.
Oh, by the way! That one-shot I did called 'Everything Changes'? The title's based off a song from the Kanto days! One that's about evolution. Lol.
Anyway, FICS STILL WANTED, if anyone's interested! They always are! As well as requests for this one-shot collection.
Hope you enjoy the drabble!
Big Day
Oh, gosh! Oh, gosh! Oh, gosh!
"(How does my fur look, Piplup?!)" Buneary asked, patting herself down to make sure it was flat.
"(Fine, Buneary...)" Piplup replied exasperatedly.
"(And my fluff?)" She patted down the fluff around her waist, making sure it was nice and fluffy.
Piplup groaned. "(Fine, Buneary...)"
"(My ears?)"
"(Fine, Buneary...)"
"(My tail?)"
"(Fine, Buneary...)"
"(How about my ear tips? My face? What about my-?)"
Piplup snapped. "(You look fine, Buneary!)"
She jumped in shock, then frowned at him. "(Well, no need to be rude!)"
"(Seriously, you look fine! And, even if you didn't, you think he'd care about there being a bit of fur out of place?!)"
Her eyes went wide. "(There's a bit of fur out of place?!)" She hopped over to the mirror, fast as lightning, and checked herself over vigorously.
She heard Piplup groan again, louder and longer than before. She didn't care, though. She had to look her absolute best today, no exceptions!
To think, Dawn had only come to Unova to watch Cynthia's exhibition match against Caitlin of the Elite Four, which would then open up some world tournament or other. They'd been invited to stay in the Sinnoh champion's villa in Undella Town until then.
Not too long ago, though, Cynthia had gone to Virbank City on some business, leaving Dawn with her butler, Jervis. That had all been well and good, until she'd called Jervis on the phone, asking him to meet her at the port.
She'd said that they were having guests over.
... But they weren't just any guests.
She checked herself over some more. Okay. Sleek fur? Check. That bath earlier had done her wonders. Poofy fluff? Check. No stray furs out of place? Alright, check.
Leaning in close to the mirror, she checked her face for any imperfections. They'd be hard to see with the fur, but one could never be too careful.
... Okay, she seemed to be ready!
"Come on out and say hi to everyone!" Dawn called out.
Heeding the call, Buneary left her pokéball in a flash of light. As she landed beside her five teammates, they all gave a cheer of greeting.
After that, she began to scan the crowd. Nope. Nope. Nope. So many faces she didn't recognise...
Then she saw one that she did recognise. A young boy in blue. She looked up his body, her gaze landing on his shoulder, where someone was sitting.
Her heart stopped dead in her chest.
... She wasn't ready! She wasn't ready at all!
She flew into a panic. Oh no, what if he saw her and something was off? She'd smoothed her fur down, but she'd been in her pokéball since! What if it had gotten messy again?
Oh no, should she have worn her vest for this?! Or perhaps something fancier?!
She glanced around. Well, none of the other pokémon were wearing anything, so maybe it was alright?
But then she wouldn't stand out!
... But, then again, did she want to stand out, if her fur was a mess?!
The yellow mouse jumped off the boy's shoulder, heading towards the group. Her eyes widened. Oh no, he was coming this way! She glanced around in a panic.
Uhhh...! Uhhhhhh...!
Spotting Mamoswine's leg, she had a burst of insight. Aha!
She quickly hopped over and dove behind it, out of sight.
"(... Why are you hiding?)" Mamoswine asked.
"(Sh-Shush...)" Buneary mumbled in reply. Her face heated in embarrassment.
... Just what the heck was she doing?
Since when had she been afraid of Pikachu? Sure, she could get rather bashful around him sometimes, but afraid?
And what was she afraid of? Not looking perfect in front of him? Since when did she care so much about appearance?
... Maybe she'd spent way too much time around Dawn. Next, she'd be carrying a brush with her everywhere, just in case she was ever caught on camera...
What would be next? Make-up? She shook her head, disappointed in herself.
Glancing up, she saw Pikachu talking to Quilava.
Ah, that was right. Pikachu wouldn't have known that Quilava had evolved, would he? It had happened right before Dawn had decided to travel around Hoenn by herself.
She stared at the yellow mouse. Wow. He really hadn't changed at all, had he? He was still as sweet and cute as ever.
She wondered if he could still do impressive stunts. She'd be willing to bet he could. He'd always been so cool, back when they'd travelled through Sinnoh together.
Like how he could do three perfect somersaults in a row without breaking a sweat. Or how he'd copied her spinning technique and done it so much better.
She watched him glance around for a minute, looking confused. Then she watched him ask Quilava something. The stoat glanced around, also looking confused. He shrugged.
Pikachu's shoulders seemed to slump slightly in disappointment.
... Huh. She couldn't help but wonder what they were talking about.
"(Hmm?)" she asked aloud to herself.
She watched as Pikachu's ear twitched. He turned around, a curious expression on his face.
Then his gaze locked onto hers.
Her breath caught in her throat. Oh, gosh, he'd heard her! And seen her!
After a moment, he smiled. "(Hey, Buneary!)" he called out, waving. "(What are you doing over there? C'mere!)"
Joy washed over her like a tidal wave. He was happy to see her! And he didn't care if her fur was messy or if her fluff wasn't poofy! He was just as happy to see her as she was to see him!
Her heart was fit to bursting with affection and happiness. She wanted to thank him. Praise him. Tell him how amazing he was. Nuzzle him all day for his kindness.
She'd missed him so much, while she'd been in Hoenn.
She let instinct take over, guiding her feet towards him. Once she approached him, she leaned against him, drinking in his warmth.
His fur was so soft...
So very soft...
"(Uh, Buneary?)" a distant voice said. "(Bunearyyyy...)"
Buneary opened her eyes and blinked. "(... Huh?)" she asked.
There was some awkward laughter. "(I'm really glad to see you, too, but this is embarrassing, come on...)"
She blinked again. Looking sideways, she saw Pikachu smiling bashfully at her.
She blinked a third time.
... Wait. How long had she been absentmindedly leaning on him for?!
She pulled away, laughing awkwardly. "(Sorry...)"
He rubbed the back of his head. "(It's okay...)"
She heard faint sniggering from the crowd of pokémon. She blushed lightly. "(Um... how long was I doing that for?)"
"(A while...)"
"(... Ah.)"
How embarrassing...
"(I mean, it was nice and all, don't get me wrong! But, uh... did you have to do it in front of everybody?)"
"(... Sorry.)"
"(And for so long?)"
"(Sorry...)"
"(You liked it really, don't lie!)" Pachirisu said from above them.
Buneary glanced up to see him being held by the dark-skinned girl, who was kneeling nearby. The squirrel beamed down at Pikachu.
"(No kidding he did...)" another squirrel near Dawn replied. She sniggered.
"(Aww!)" a small dragon said happily. "(He missed his girlfriend!)"
"(H-Hey,)" Pikachu protested weakly, "(she's not my...)" He trailed off, sighing.
Buneary looked at him to see a light blush on his exasperated face. She glanced elsewhere to see Togekiss smiling happily, Quilava trying his hardest not to laugh and Piplup looking rather smug.
"(Yeah. I did miss you, Buneary.)"
She turned back to see Pikachu smiling bashfully at her.
Glowing with happiness, she beamed back at him. "(I missed you, too~!)" she replied.
He perked up, returning the beaming smile.
Yep. It turned out there'd been nothing to worry about, after all!
The End
