A/N: Hey guys! Back with something fluffy to make up for last time!

He hears the birds first. The high, short chirps filling up the long-standing silence. And only a half hour later does the tiniest spark of light appear in the sky.

Four AM is still very much shrouded in darkness.

And that's fine by him.

Because she's still here, by his side, dozing softly and pressed against him. He sighs contently, watching the clouds turn barely a shade lighter as the minutes tick by.

But the light means the morning. And the morning will snatch her away from him, into the busy pace of life where she may find something else, someone else.

He's not sure what they are, he just knows that they are. And maybe that's enough. And maybe it's not. Maybe he wants more.

But if this is what he gets to have then he'll take it. Because honestly, it's fine by him if she decides to stay here by him. If she doesn't leave when the sky gets light.

He turns his head to look at her sleeping form beside him, so peaceful. Perfect. As always.

The birds sound louder, he wonders what could possibly be so important than they need to yell it at four AM.

In a moment of inspiration, he decides to join them in their early morning conversation. He reaches for her hand, and she holds it back even in her sleep.

"I love you," he whispers. Three words only shared with the birds and the time and the barest bit of light peeking through the window.

He could live like this forever, in this moment. He smiles softly as his eyes start to droop close, as if the confession had taken everything else out of him. In a few more moments, he's asleep.

-.-

He wakes up to the sound of shuffling and forces an eye open to find her, dressed and grabbing her purse.

"Good morning," he mumbles, and she turns to him, surprised at his consciousness.

"Hey," she replies softly with that smile he loves.

"You…" He'll blame it on his brain being loopy, since a glance at the alarm clock shows it's six thirty, because he continues. "You don't have to leave…you can…stay, if you want."

"It's fine by me," he adds when she stares at him.

He knows it's a stretch, that she told him she's not the type to stick around, especially with someone like him. Someone who can't even address his feelings properly.

But something tells him that she's the one for him, and all he can do is hope she sees it too.

She walks over to the bed and sits down as he forces himself up. He's exhausted but just looking at her for long enough causes his heart to race.

Slowly, she reaches out to grab his hand. Touches like these are just among the long list of things that he doesn't want to lose with her.

"Forever?"

It takes a second for him to catch up to her question. Of course, of course she can stay forever. She never has to leave. They could stay like this.

He just nods, not trusting his voice. She looks at him in a way he's never seen before. (There's a small curious smile on her face and he wonder is maybe, just maybe, she heard him say those three words.)

"Then that's fine by me too."

A/N: Obviously inspired by the song Fine By Me, including some cute early morning cuddles. Hope you guys liked it!
